Finally got my new air compressor hooked up and we’re back in business on the fossil prep front. First up in the queue was the removal of the excess matrix and cleaning up on this Peronoceras subarmatum which I found on the Jurassic Yorkshire Coast a few months ago. I’ve been out of action on fossil prep for nearly 4 months so it’s nice to be back up and running

dude seeing these Mega high quality images of the surface of mars that we now have has me fucked up. Like. Mars is a place. mars is a real actual place where one could hypothetically stand. GUYS, I HIT THE JACKPOT. So my department is in the midst of organizing all the stuff and we’re getting rid of a bunch of rocks that we’ve had lying around in bins and LOOK WHAT I FOUND. It’s a copper ore, specifically a bornite (Cu5FeS4) vein. For reference, bornite is the peacock ore, and it’s even prettier in person than in the pic. I remember collecting little pieces of bornite from rock grab bags when I was a kid, but this piece is HUGE!
