Bad Batch episode three Cody rant-
yes, Cody DID learn a lot from Obi-Wan, such as how to negotiate properly, but i think it’s also important to recognize that that’s just who Cody is and who he always has been.
Cody has ALWAYS been undeniably kind and has ALWAYS had a good sense of right and wrong. this is why he’s universally loved by every single clone we see- the Batch who hated regs loved him from the start, including Crosshair. every battalion we saw him interact with has always had a DEEP respect for him because he is, fundamentally, a GOOD person. he’s one of the best people we see in all of Star Wars.
that’s not something he learned from Obi-Wan. thats just who he is. and i think that’s something Obi-Wan really loved about him.
Cody is to the bone a kind and caring person. he is extremely loyal to those he loves and there is nothing that matters more to him than those he considers his family- that’s why he was calling his troops by their name, even when no one else was. that’s why he was genuinely distraught when Nova died, and had to be bodily pulled away from him even thought his own life was at risk. that’s why he was kind to Crosshair even though no one else was willing to even sit with him.
Cody is his own person, just as Obi-Wan is his own person, and while they absolutely have a lot of similar traits, those aren’t things they gained from each other.
Cody didn’t suddenly start being kind because Obi-Wan taught him that- we know he’s been like that since he was taking Rex under his wing on Kamino, and did the same with every other troop he encountered. he’s just an intrinsically caring and deeply kind brother. he didn’t decide to start vying for peace because he thinks Obi-Wan is dead. Cody’s ALWAYS been a fair person tries to hear everyone out. that is just who he inherently is, just as that’s who Obi-Wan inherently is, and that is the reason they love each other so much.
i think the reason this episode was so good at showing just how good of a person Cody is comes from the fact that he is alone. he is entirely in command. there is no Obi-Wan there, there’s no one he has to listen to, he is the sole commander here. and yet, even at the pressure of his superior officer, he doesn’t loose his morals at all, and consistently shows how kind and sweet he is. he isn’t doing that because of Obi-Wan, he’s doing that because it’s who he is, even with the inhibitor chip.
of COURSE he would question the Empire and leave as soon as the chip started wearing off, and of COURSE he’d carry the guilt of Order 66 squarely on his shoulders. he is a great example of someone who knows right from wrong and people who ever questioned him don’t understand his character at ALL.
Senior Year things to appreciate apart from Gilderoy (who I think we've been doing plenty of well deserved appreciating this week):
Brian Holden as Hagrid - so fucking funny, I remember squealing my absolute head off the first time I saw this bit. I completely understand why Darren is just creasing throughout the whole scene.
The way that learning about Voldemorts backstory isn't necessary to appreciate his plot in AVPM but when you know it it adds so many more layers. Starkid literally said Voldemort is like that because of homophobic parents and we were like fuck me up fam.
This has already been discussed at length but obviously the last scene. "I hope you find that swimming pool". Albus Scarfy Potter. Quirrelmort. Wang Mu. Okay is wonderful. All of it.
Tyler as McGonnagall - seriously what can't that man play?? He embodies her.
YOU GOTTA GO HOME, YOU GOTTA GO HOME - you know what I'm on about
Jeff Blim's vocals in Get in My Mouth. Also would recommend looking up Nick Strauss' cover from a Leaky Con in I think 2013. It's on YouTube and it's fucking incredible.
I Was and Tonight This School is Mine are both complete bangers and the fact that they're still audiably bangers even with the microphone issues says a lot. The fucking poetry in I was, and the fucking sass in ttsim
The many layers of Always Dance. The beautiful bit at the start with Dylan, then the fucking dance off between Voldemort and Lucius which is everything and finally the evil last verse when he's waltzing with Ginny
Sidekick.
Joey Richter's actual real ass human tears that he manages to squeeze out
Everything Ends continual ability to make me bawl like a baby. Goddam you Brosenthal why is your voice so good.
"I think we FOUND each other". It should be illegal for a line so funny to come in the middle of a scene so emotional. I distinctly remember when I watched it as a teenager having to pause to howl with laughter (tigerfucker and Santa Claus is going to high school are the only other scenes I remember having to do that for on first watch). Lilly divorcng James in heaven and remarrying Cedric is just an inspired concept
Evana Lynch smoking a fag - it was really cool that they became big enough to get an actual Harry potter actor in the show but just watching her smoking while washing blood off her hands made it so worth
The fact that AJs commitment to being in both the band and the cast means there are so many moments where the camera pans across and it's just oh look there's Gilderoy Lockhart just casually playing keyboard with Clark
The death day party scene - Ron and Lavenders date, Harry and Cho's date and then Seamus and Dean's double date with Ginny all 3 of them fucking hysterical. Also the bit with the ice sculpture and the roller skates
Brant Cox - he has like 5 lines in this play but they're the funniest 5 lines
All of the boo boos - most specifically 'fuck the tie' and 'a floating diary? Ah shit'
"sssssnake ssssnake I'm a snake where are my arms gone, only kidding I'm a ssssnake"
"sparkles, sparkles, I'm gay!" ~ Lord Voldemort
"I drew a majestic owl" - watching the SK10 livestreams and apparantly this comes from when they were doing a 24 hour story writing thing (a Hackathon for humanities students??) and Jim got bored really early on so spent most of the time drawing a realistic owl
And finally that it actually happened in the first place because I remember how initially it was going to be right after the sequel but then everything got thrown into disarray, and it kept getting pushed back. But thanks to us being absolute impatient assholes who commented 'give us threequel' every time they so much as breathed on social media we got it and it was wonderful!
Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you 🔜! The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th. To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long! Pre order 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on my site 😎

I was thinking about how the real beauty of Codywan is that they are only really allowed to exist in the quiet parts of the war and then I remembered the quote from Everything, Everywhere, All At Once which I think describes them perfectly.
“I wanted to say… in another life I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.”
Except replace laundry and taxes with paperwork. I think this is Cody’s perspective in particular. This idea of this being the most boring part of his day but it’s a privilege for him because he gets to do it with Obi Wan but also because it’s so completely ordinary. He doesn’t see Obi Wan as this all-powerful Jedi, he just sees him, and that is who he loves. It’s not that his abilities as a Jedi aren’t impressive, but Cody loves the person behind all of it and he would’ve loved him without any of it too. Even though he never took these moments for granted during the war, after Order 66, he still feels like he has. He’d do anything to get that back but it’s his fault that he can’t (or so he believes).
IM SO ABSOLUTELY SICK OVER CODY’S IMPERIAL ARMOR BECAUSE YOU CAN STILL SEE HIS SUNBURST PAINT. THE STRIPES ARE STILL THERE. BUT THEY’RE GREY. THEY DON’T REPRESENT THE SUNRISE ANYMORE- THEY’RE A LITERAL SHADOW.
HE’S NO LONGER THE SUNRISE. HE’S ALSO BECOME A LITERAL SHADOW.
tbh I dont care for the plot. but I do care for Adam bringing chainsaw to Ronan because he thought it would wake him up and so he wouldn't be all alone
Just watched Rebels s3e5 and Rex thinking the Clone Wars haven't ended and i m m e d i a t e l y saying "Cody" gave me fucking whiplash
being a swiftie nowadays is so chill like homegirl just disappears for months and then suddenly shows up and drops something with 24 hours notice, does 5 interviews and 3 performances in 2 days, and then disappears again for half a year
me deluding myself into believing that they pushed Bad Batch season 2 back so they could make Cody live and go find Obi-Wan on Tatooine and then show them together in Kenobi season 2 (which has not even been announced to be happening)
If Cody dies, I die too.
