In the scene where Neil leaves Eady in the middle of the night (like a thief), we can see 4 (4!!) tattoos, very briefly. In this here brightened image, there are the two most visibles on his left and right shoulder:

Sadly number 1 on his right arm/shoulder is pretty mysterious and we don't get more than this:

so we can guess its size but not really more than that. Too bad.

On his left shoulder though, there's his more visible tattoo, number 2, the one we usually remember. I nuked some images, and since we know (from michael mann) that Neil was in the army, we can make the link between his tattoo and a common US marine corps tat:

details still aren't great but it's the most probable option, so i'll go with that.

now?? on that top left frame, you can vaguely see some black pixels on neil's back. and that's yes indeed tat n°3. Just like number 1 though, we don't really see a lot of it:

yeah we can't see shit. too bad there isn't another scene with neil shirtless, like, say, a sex scene with al pacino, that way we could've gotten more pics... but well.

onto tattoo n°4, the vaguest but also most intriguing one:

so depending on which frame i nuke i get different results. wild stuff.

but it's either a coat hanger (yes: neil is an abortion right activist), which as a jail tat can apparently mean freedom from an enclosed space (makes sense), or it's 2 black bands, which can be strength and courage or loss (could make sense). Pick your favorite i guess?

since you are the master of all things michael mann, @power-chords, i'd be very curious to know what you think about what i see as a surprising amount of tattoos and about this coat hanger/black band thing? If there is anything to say about it at all lol.
