while wearing hijab often *is* a choice for american/western muslim women, they are culturally coerced into sticking with that choice because of the intense backlash from their communities directed towards women who choose to take it off. is it truly a free choice if you’re coerced into sticking to it?

blows my mind that to some people, the statement “a man who is rude to waitresses will make a bad boyfriend” is completely uncontroversial, but saying “a man who gets aroused by you crying, in pain, or injured will make a bad boyfriend” is unacceptable. so wanting to fucking strangle you is LESS of a red flag than not tipping?
