Because yeh, the other characters aren't necessarily better than him. To Jeff, someone else telling him that advice would have sounded condescending. But Abed doesn't pity him and doesn't shy away from saying it as it is. Abed is like hey Jeff that's alarming behavior and I care about you so you should seek a professional for that. And Jeff gets it. And actually follows through. He meant it when he said that Abed in this episode was his wake up call.

They're two sides of the same coin and Jeff finally sees that other side of the coin and goes oh I have the potential to be a good person...yeh I want that.

I choose to believe that after Abed moved to LA Jeff sent him a text saying "I'm sorry for the way I've been treating you, and hopefully by the next time I see you I'll know how to say this in person, because I'm going to work on my mental health issues and make sure I never take them out on you again" and if the movie shows him acting to the contrary of this promise I choose to believe I can reach through the screen and shoot him 😊

So what if Mac was acting so strange with his Uncle Donald because he's terrified of ending up like him, alone, castrated from the family, and no legacy to pass down. Because now he met Johnny. And he's getting somewhere towards a stable relationship and stable sense of identity. He's pointing out Dennis' homophobic jokes and talking about passing stuff down to his kids. He will not end up like Uncle Donald.
