Game Boy Light Astro Boy, 1998 Nintendo
Now, this is something of an exotic looking Game Boy! The GB Light never got a UK release and I’m not sure it ever got released anywhere outside of Japan, which is a shame because it’s a lovely thing to hold. It’s got a similar form factor to the GB Pocket, so not quite as brick like as the original Game Boy but the real draw is the electroluminescent backlight :-) No crappy front-light here like the original GBA SP, this thing glows like some sort of radioactive isotope! It’s great, not quite GBA SP AGS-101 great but very funky nonetheless.
The Astro Boy branding is the icing on the cake really, as is the transparent body, which is very cool in a late 90’s way!
