Intelligence Is Knowing Lots And Lots Of Words.

intelligence is knowing lots and lots of words.

wisdom is knowing that sometimes, regardless of all the words floating around your head, 'fuck' is absolutely the right word for a given situation, and no, using it does not make you sound like an idiot.

I know the animation industry has been going through a serious rough patch in the past 10 years. I just hope the medium and the artists making it can get the respect they deserve someday soon. So I wanna take a moment to spread a reminder of the powerful emotional scenes we've gotten from animation in the past 10 years.

A lot clicked for me when my mom said the reason she was so reactive towards me as a kid was that she assumed intent behind things I did, rather than recognizing my behaviors for being normal kid behaviors or normal autism behaviors. So I got treated as if I was an adult who was intentionally doing things to upset her. She'd react to me like I had the maturity and wherewithal to do things in a cruel or manipulative way, making her life harder, when I was just existing. Just trying to learn how to cope and be a person myself. When she told me this I stopped in my tracks trying to process. Why would anyone's default assumption be that a kid is trying to antagonize them instead of like, struggling with something they're experiencing? But she was also raised the exact same way, treated like everything she did carried the weight of adult responsibility, not seen as a kid.

Bard Tav faces Astarion and Lae’zel and pleads to them, “consider the loot and ummm chance to re-hone your fighting skills at the goblin camp! Shake off the tadpole funk!”

Tav is then in between Wyll and Karlach, telling the former “don’t attack! Hear Karlach out!”
Tav presents a pile of magic boots to Gale, “We got all these boots for you! Astarion can have one book!” Behind him, Astarion holds the Necromancy of Thay with a devillish grin.

Lastly, Tav speaks to Shadowheart, “your god and my god get along, we could too! But maybe tone down the Githyanki hate?”
At the end of the day, Tav looks exhausted. “Making decisions is so stressful, it feels like every choice is coming down to me.”

Wyll holds up a chalice, “Don’t sell yourself short! Your leadership has united us all, you’ve earned our trust!”

In the background, Gale bites into a magic boot.
Tav says, “I only go out of my way for everyone because I take psychic damage if no one approves of me.”

Wyll looks at him in concern, “That’s not healthy.”

Then the panel is darkened, Tav takes 3 points of damage, and “Loading” appears at the bottom.

You can always tell when an author is trying to "deconstruct" something that they think is stupid or boring or otherwise beneath them because they're unwilling or unable to develop the necessary understanding of the source material to properly rip into it and the end result invariably fucking sucks. You need to love a genre in order to truly do it violence.

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).

When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".

When the boat is still being built, your say "it".

When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".

When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".

When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.

If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").

If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")

If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").

If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.

If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.

I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

✨Having someone who is invested in your story and discusses it with you is like a solid half of the fun of writing. I'm not even kidding.✨
