I love this picture so much! Post it whenever I come across it.

I’ve seen a lot of fanfics where the title Hero of Men is given to Four—probably because his design is based off the stain glass artwork of the Hero of Men from Minish Cap—but I haven’t actually seen anyone follow through with what it means that Four has that title?? The Hero of Men was the hero that fought in the War of the Bound Chest! He sealed a whole bunch of monsters in a chest with the Picori Blade, and it’s Vaati releasing the monsters and breaking the Picori Blade that starts the whole Minish Cap adventure.

So if Four is the Hero of Men, that means we have TWO heroes who have fought in a war!! The dynamic between Warriors and Four would be so interesting, and if you look at the Hero of Men myth, it’s pretty heavily implied the Hero of Men led the Hylian Army against the monsters. That means you could place Four as high up as a General or Commander, which means he could pull rank on Warriors! It’d be so funny!

FORMATTING TIP FROM A SEASONED FIC WRITER

Dear new tumblr writers, I have an important formatting tip for you. It's an absolute must if you don’t want people to hate you, and that is to use the read more function.

Now, you may be asking yourself, what on earth is the read more function? Well, it's simple. Using this feature will create a line that hides everything below it with the text keep reading. Essentially, it's a way to shorten your post, so people don't have to scroll through a wall of text to get to the next post. It makes browsing tags a more pleasant experience. If you click the blue keep reading, the rest of your fic will appear. I've attached an example from one of my own fics below, so you know what it looks like.

The next question you may be asking yourself is how to create it. It hasn't always been easy, especially on mobile and the app, but there's a specific button for it these days. On the app, when you're writing a post, it’s always present at the bottom (pic 1 below) while on desktop, you have to jump to a new empty line/paragraph for the options to appear (pic 2 below), but the symbol is the same.

If you use this feature, more people are likely going to read your fic. Some people will not read your fic out of spite if you don't use this function, myself included. It sounds petty because it is. I recommend adding it after about 250-300 words, but do what feels right.

Some children are constantly reminded "you're the child, I'm the adult" in order to deny their autonomy. Their youth rights activism would involve treating them like an adult at times when they feel ready for it.

Some children are treated like adults in order to justify increased expectations or to downplay abuse against them. Their youth rights activism would involve allowing them to be a child.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to oppression. Each individual person's experience is different. Whatever trauma is caused by their oppression, the activism should focus on undoing it.

People in the Middle Ages valued sweet smelling breath and bodies, seeing them as desirable, so there is a great deal of evidence from the period of tooth pastes, powders and deodorants. Contrary to the typical Hollywood depiction of medieval peasants with blackened and rotting teeth, the average person had teeth which were in fairly good condition, mainly due to the rarity of sugar in the diet. Most medieval people could not afford sugar and those who could used it sparingly. Archaeological data shows that only 20% of teeth had signs of decay, as opposed to 90% in the early twentieth century. The main dental problem for medieval people was not decay but wear, due to a high content of grit in the main staple, bread. For deodorants, soap was available for the wealthy, but a variety of herbs and other preparations were also used. Soapwort is a plant native to Europe and Asia which, when soaked in water, produces an effective liquid soap. Mint, cloves and thyme were also extensively used by simply rubbing into the skin, and alum (hydrated potassium aluminium sulphate) was an effective deodorant. I am trying to keep to 14th century technology on my pilgrimage to Canterbury, which gives me various options when looking at hygiene. In the middle ages people generally cleaned their teeth by rubbing them and their gums with a rough linen cloth, or the chewed end of a stick. There are various recipes for pastes and powders that could be put on the cloth to help clean the teeth, but I have chosen simple salt to whiten them and to aid fresh breath. I will also be using the stick method, and will be taking along a supply of liquorice root sticks for that purpose. I also have a few blocks of alum, which when rubbed into wet skin has a deodorising effect. Alum, like beeswax, was used extensively in the middle ages for a variety of purposes, also being useful: * in the purification of drinking water as a flocculant * as a styptic to stop bleeding from minor cuts * as a pickling agent to help keep pickles crisp * as a flame retardant * as an ingredient in modelling clay * as an ingredient in cosmetics and skin whiteners * as an ingredient in some brands of toothpaste The photograph shows my wash kit including home made olive oil soap, salt for the teeth, a block of deodorising alum, cloves, a boxwood comb made for me by Peter Crossman of Crossman Crafts and some liquorice root sticks, all on a woollen ‘towel’. Note that the cloves are kept in a ventilated box….this is because insects hate the smell of cloves and so a perforated box will keep them out of my kit and food bag when I am sleeping rough. TIP: If you steep some cloves to obtain the oil and put the liquid around the doors and windows of your house, it keeps spiders and insects out.

i just found out that mercutio sings “la vie n’est pas un théâtre” alongside tybalt in the french revival and im going to make it everyone’s problem (not heard on the studio recording, but rather live)

he takes the lower harmony on that line, a stark contrast to what he usually sings. mercutio sings high and bold (see: the high F in la folie, riffing in les beaux, les laids and les rois du monde). not only that, but he harmonizes it softly, almost weakly, drowned out by tybalt's belt.

both tybalt and mercutio sing "life is not a theatre".

it's spoken like conformation. that in spite of his theatrical disposition, he understood that life wasn't the carnival of love that other people parade it to be. when he's stabbed, his charade of carelessness falters to reveal the pessimism that was once treated as foolish ramblings in je reve. no matter how much he tries to play up his whimsicality, he's a cynic that has always understood that death and tragedy was inevitable for the men that live on their knees. should he dies, he dreams, right?

but it's also a realization. it's an audible show that tybalt has overpowered his exuberance with the harsh revelation that tybalt is going to kill him. that he is going to die. that this is no longer a game. that this thing between him and tybalt isn't just teasing and empty threats anymore.

he spends a majority of the musical dancing on the edge of a sword. the goings-ons of his enemies his personal little drama. he has these wild dreams and this untouchable fearlessness that he uses to feel above it all. he may know that life is miserable no matter who you are, he may know that he's the king of nothing, but just knowing that and embracing his self proclaimed insanity is what allows him a semblance of control.

but then he's hit with the terrifying realization that life is not a theatre. things don't work out like they do in plays. life isn't as fanciful as it is in fiction. the blood isn't fake, the sun isn't a spotlight, there are no bows or encores, he doesn't get to pick himself up when the lights go dark, he is going to die. the stab sobers him, forcing him to understand that he isn't invincible. and of course, he tries, he stands with a flourish and claims he can't be harmed but madness can't save him from the cold truth of mortality.

and of course, the irony that it is a theatre. the audience gets to watch behind the safety of the pit band, free to laugh, cry, disengage, watch as the characters are forced to acknowledge that death is their reality and there is no leaving after the curtains close. the actors do, but mercutio's blood still stains the streets of verona. he does not get that luxury.

so just by singing "life is not a theatre" the way he did, mercutio becomes a cynic whose pessimism is confirmed no matter how hard he plays jester. or he's a man who thought he'd never die suddenly realizing he's just as vulnerable as the people he mocks. if anything, he's probably both.

either way is tragic. but what's even more tragic is that it probably isn't that deep and they just wanted to add a harmony to sound nice. but it has beautiful and tragic intent to ME
