playing teenage kicks was so important on so many levels. yes it's a punk song about teenagers which obviously fits the episode. but also, it was written in the summer of 1977. the undertones were a northern irish punk rock band. they were from derry. and when they released teenage kicks it put derry on the map in the music scene. i just love how much thought goes into every aspect of this show

As someone who has had the privilege to grow up in post Good Friday Agreement, Northern Ireland and in relative peace (nothing compared to the atrocities of the Troubles). I cannot explain how perfectly Derry Girls showed, not only the importance of the Agreement then, but also now.

Something that has always made me happy about Derry Girls is that the Troubles was always there, but was never the dominant feature of anyones lives, which is the way it was. Too often in media when mentioning this place the Troubles and violence are the defining factor and all the niceties of the people, places and culture are abandoned. This was highlighted rather than ignored

As someone who has watched the girls grow up as I, myself have grown up I also found the portrayal of turning 18 to be brilliant as I am going through something similar at the moment myself.

Thank you Derry Girls, Thank you Lisa McGee.
