Gabriel García Márquez, "Cien años de soledad".
“Women who have objections to marriage, I have no problem with. Men who vocally object to marriage from the left, claiming some sort of ideological purity, I find laughable. The refrain of “let’s not sign any PAPERS, that’s giving in to the MAN, man” started being used by leftist men in the mid to late 1960s. Not particularly coincidentally, this is when the women’s movement was making huge strides in getting no-fault divorce laws into legislatures, eventually seeing the first passage of such a law in California in 1969. Once women made huge strides in custody and divorce proceedings, and could divorce men without having to submit onerous requirements of proof, leftist men suddenly decided they could do without the “oppressive institution” of marriage. Cohabitation still means, due to resource disparities between men and women, that cohabiting women in hetero relationships (especially impoverished ones) often find themselves homeless and propertyless after a breakup. Divorce provides an arbitration mechanism for the fair division of property obtained in the marriage and a separation of property obtained prior to the marriage. Women who are against marriage often have sound reasons. Men are typically rather transparently self-serving.”

In 1912 Alfred Wegener proposed a controversial theory about how the Earth’s land masses formed. He said the great continents had once formed a single landmass, which had broken up over time. The idea went against all conventional ideas, and was roundly dismissed.
It took the work of young cartographer Marie Tharp to prove him right.
In 1947, she worked on a team that were running expeditions around the world, mapping the ocean floors with echolocation. However, Marie wasn’t allowed on the missions because women were seen as ‘bad luck’…
But the work she did back at the university was invaluable. Converting endless data into detailed profiles, she realised that the ocean floor isn’t a flat, featureless plane, but a complex, varied landscape.
Most importantly, she spotted a long, V-shaped valley in each of her profiles: a rift valley that supported Wegener’s theory, formed by two land masses moving apart, splitting the ocean floor in two.
But even with this evidence, Tharp’s ideas were dismissed as ‘girl talk’.
She then realised that her profiles tied in with worldwide earthquake maps being developed by a colleague.
The mounting evidence started to convince some sceptics, but not all. Renowned explorer Jacques Cousteau was so unconvinced that he sent an expedition to film the ocean floor and clear things up once and for all. What did his footage show? Exactly what Tharp had predicted.
Tharp’s steadfast determination had paved the way for Wegener’s continental drift theory to gain traction. As the tide of opposition waned, it gave birth to our modern understanding of plate tectonics and secured Tharp’s position as one of the most outstanding cartographers of the 20th century.

It's literally crazy seeing people foam at the mouth about radfems, as if feminists are these dangerous evil murderers that are watching their every move and just waiting to kill a trans person because they just hate them soo much. If it's a man saying it the male socialization is so obvious, they just really enjoy beating women down and making sure women know that if you step out of line even once (by talking about feminism too much or something) they WILL threaten to rape you or beat you, and they will get everyone on their side because "feminazis". You can see that they've clearly waited for the moment when it's acceptable to openly hate and threaten women; now you'll even be praised for it.
If it's a woman saying it, the internalized misogyny is so obvious; they're trying so hard to show men that "See, I'm not one of those crazy feminazis, I'm on your side", they're trying to stay safe from being the next woman labeled a fascist because she reblogged too many posts about women's rights or talked about periods or having a vulva or even thought about all the women and girls suffering and dying because of sex-based oppression. So they'll gladly throw other women to the wolves and let them be ridiculed, threathened or stalked to have a fleeting feeling of being safe from misogyny themselves. But they never will, because the moment you dare to think and speak for yourself you will also be called a terf, swerf or a fascist for thinking that women are oppressed by men for being women.
ok heres my hot take: women can make whatever fictional content they want i trust them to still be normal irl. men are mentally fragile, easily influenced and should not be allowed to read
In 1998, Portuguese artist Paula Rego made the series titled Untitled: The Abortion Pastels in response to a proposed referendum that would legalize abortion in Portugal that was narrowly shot down. Each piece in the series depicts a woman undergoing an unsafe abortion.
Meant to be uncomfortable, the series went against the trends of depicted womanhood in art at the time and previously. Rego brought to light the things that were swept under the rug, exhibiting in capital of the country, Lisbon.
Her work is stated to be imperative to the changing of public opinion in favor of pro-choice legislation.

Giulia Tofana was an Italian professional poisoner. She sold a poison called Aqua Tofana (supposedly invented by Thofania di Adamo, who may have been Giulia's mother) to women who wanted to murder their husbands.
