Witchcraft comes in all shapes and sizes, and so do us witches. We canโt all always afford the same items, time, energy, spaces to practice larger bouts of magic, and that can leave us feeling a little lost or sad that we havenโt practiced or performed anything.
But, donโt fear, little birds, because I have a whole list of different types of tiny magic practices and thereโs definitely something here for everyone! Whether you donโt have many spoons or canโt scrape much cash together, thereโs every day magic for you.
Kitchen Craft:
Sprinkle some dried herbs into your smoothies, pasta sauces, or dips to invoke their correspondences and intents
Stir clockwise to manifest intentions or anticlockwise to banish/let go of thoughts
Drink different herbal teas for different intents, like ginger tea for clarity and grounding
Coloured utensils! Keep different coloured pots, cups, or spoons to use in baking. Pink cups for love drinks, green spoons for money magic, and so on
Keep store bought dried herbs for spells if you struggle with/cannot have real plants
Draw sigils with the sauces you apply to your food
Make your own breads and sauces and turn the recipes into different spells
Home Craft:
Sprinkle a herb onto the floor and leave to sit for a few minutes before you vacuum to bless your home with that intent
Let a black candle burn by the front door to cleanse off negative energies which may have come through it
Light basil incense around the house for new beginnings and cleansing
Keep a money jar, and each time you add to it, make a wish for future prosperity. When you break it, spend the money you need to or give it away to the less fortune/charities to spread the fortune it brought you
Make essential oil sprays to spruce up a room with your intent easily, but be sure to do your research (hereโs two to start you off)
Play calming playlists to re-energise your home, I personally like to use forest sounds
Hang herb bundles on doors to invite their intents in, like a bundle of basil and lavender for prosperous and positive new beginnings
Set out diffusers and match the number of sticks to an angel number you wish to invoke, such as four for support and family
Bathroom Craft:
Soaps and shampoos with scents/ingredients/colours matching what you wish to invoke
Add petals or herbs to your bath to bless yourself in their intents
Sing chants, songs and poems in the shower about how you want your day to go
Carve sigils and runes into your bars of soaps
Draw sigils into the smoked up glass and mirrors
Keep a white flannel for cleaning the bathroom, and could even put herbs or magic water onto whilst doing so
Sleep Craft:
You can put any manner of things under your pillow to invoke their intents, from sigils to leaves to crystals to money
Read a story before bed similar to what you want to manifest into your own life, such as a love story or a poem about being courageous
Sleep with a playlist with calms you to ease yourself into rest when youโre struggling
Say goodnight to your guides or ancestors!
If possible and healthy, wake up to an alarm at an angel number to โfitโ your day to that energy, for instance, if you have to get up at 6am, try 5:55 instead
Travel Craft:
Pack yourself a mini witch kit if you donโt have access to your things. You can include mini herb hard, micro crystals, a small pen and paper, string, and a small birthday candle, for instance
Talk to your guides and beings in this time in your mind to wish them well and ask them for advice or to accompany you if you wish
Take a moment to listen to the natural bustling world around you between having your headphones on
Say any prayers you wish to give in your mind at this time
Trace sigils on the windows or surfaces around you
Write sigils into your shoes for safe travel and unsore feet
Wear crystal pendants associated with safe travel
You can learn on the go! Whether itโs books, blogs, or podcasts, this would be a good time to dedicate to learning new craft
Work Craft:
A desk plant is still a plant, and you can use it as a spell of growth in your career
Bring lunch with you that youโve magically prepared at home (kitchen magic above!)
If youโre someone who doodles as they work, but you donโt want to be told off or caught, keep an empty pen for drawing out invisible sigils (but make sure itโs really empty)
Keep spell sachets for success at the bottom of your work bag
Garden/Nature Craft:
Collecting ethically and sustainably can take a lot of research, so when youโre unsure, simply use the โdiscardsโ rule. Take only what you see is discarded by nature, such as broken off stems or fallen wilted flower heads, sticks from the ground, or leaves also. Be sure you know if theyโre safe to use, touch, or eat though
In your own garden, plant all year round and native plants if you donโt have much time for upkeep
Use food waste as compost for your plants! This is an easy way to recycle otherwise landfilled food waste whilst also giving your plants a nutritional meal for them. Take a read here about composting.
Keep window boxes for your plants if space is an issue, or even a vertical plant holder
Strolling/being in nature, parks, and gardens is a brilliantly way to recharge you and your tools
Art Craft:
Paint your dreams and what you wish to manifest
Sing songs about your desires and wishes
Work with colours reflecting the intentions you wish to invoke
Before using a canvas, lightly wash it down in magic water with any herbs or spices which reflect your intent for the piece youโre making
Weave your crystals into pendulums and jewellery to bond with them
Sew sigils into the inside of your clothing or bags
Sew a dried herb pouch into the inside of a bag or coat to bless it with these things (but be sure to do so properly and not let it get wet to avoid mould)
Write letters and poems to the universe thanking it or asking for blessings
Divination Craft:
A pendulum can be made out of anything and string. Whilst crystals and pure metals and such are nice, donโt overlook a metal key or a beach stone
You can make your own deck, tarot or oracle, and it can be as detailed or not detailed as you like
Homemade runes can be made in an oven! Hunt around for peopleโs various different methods of home cast runes
Your own body can be a pendulum if you concentrate on the question and allow your sway to take you
If youโre a scryer, you donโt need a crystal ball, a regular mirror can work with your technique, but always do your research on the method nonetheless
Keeping PDFs on meanings is 100% valid, okay, and actually a really wise thing to do! They can help look at your spreads in a way you didnโt initially see
You can pull a card a day without having a set question
Sunlight and moonlight can charge your decks
Selenite is known to be a good charger for any and all tools
things to release on a full moon
fear of changeย
searching externally for answers & not searching within
negative energyย
the belief that youโre not good enough
comparing yourself to others
clinging onto things
letting go of the need for approval from others
fear of criticism & judgement
old beliefs that no longer serve you
Hey you guys! I sent out a post a while ago asking for responses to some questions on views regarding witchcraft. However, this is more about the religion of witchcraft. Do you think it is a religion? Should it be protected by freedom of religion? etc etc. I am writing from a United States standpoint but I do appreciate all responses. I am not asking for names or email addresses. Thank you!!
(You donโt have to have responded to my earlier post to fill out this form)
Been taking a break from drawing over the last few months, mainly for some badly needed holiday time. However, I have been inspired along the way by the beautiful sandstone pebbles and colours found around my local coastline. As a result, I have started on a journey full of pastels colours and lines. Here are a few examples :)
Where do our herb associations come from?
In our little community we regard rosemary as an all purpose herb, a replacement for other herbs. Rosemary itself is used for a lot of things just in general, and according toย pinecone.pubย andย onespiritx.tripodย it can be used forย Anointing, Blessing, Cleansing, Consecration, Defense, Determination, Divination, Exorcism, Healing, Inspiration, Love, Lust, Memory, Protection, Psychic Development, Purification, Sleep, Spiritual Healing, Spirituality, Warding, Willpower, Wisdom, Youth.ย
however, iโve also noticed a lot more people are asking why we use this herb for that, rallying against blindly following herb meanings and taking them for granted, so iโve done some cursory research (x). it doesnโt cover everything, but hereโs some to get the ball rolling:
cleansing/defense/protection/purification/warding - we tend to think of these in more magical/spiritual senses, of course, but originally it was brought to funerals to protect against infection (segways into next bullet)
memory - the herb took on another association, for memory, as funeral goers would start dropping the rosemary onto the coffin, symbolizing a promise to remember the deceased. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare writes,ย โDry up your tears, and stick your rosemary/ On this fair corse.โ rosemary would also be used in bridal wreaths in tudor weddings to help the couple remember their vows. the memory association is again noted in shakespeare, as he says in Hamlet, โThereโs rosemary, thatโs for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember.โ ย and he mentions rosemary again in The Winter Tale, โFor you, thereโs rosemary and rue; these keep/ Seeming and savour all the winter longโฆโ referencing how distinctive the scent is all year round.ย
Love/Lust - again, shakespeare references rosemary in Romeo and Juliet, though this relation seems a little weak,ย โDoth not rosemary and Romeo begin both with the same letter?โย
Anointing/Blessing//Consecration/Exorcism/Protection/Purification/Spiritual Healing/Warding - rosemary became considered aย โholy plantโ through its association with sacred rites, became heavily used by the church for festivals and holidays, and was used as a ward againstย โblack magicโ. โDown with rosemary and so,/Down with the baies and mistletoe,/ Down with the holly, ivie all/ Wherewith ye deck the Christmas hall.โ ย -the poet Herrick
sleep/warding/protection/healing - in a letter from Queen Phillippa of Englandโs mother,ย โThe leves layde under the heade whanne a man slepes, it doth away evell spirites and suffereth not to dreeme fowle dremes ne to be afeade. But he must be out of deedely synne for it is an holy tree.โ [the leaves laid under the head when a man sleeps, sends away evil spirits and prevents nightmares]. It was also customary around this time to burn rosemary and juniper berries as a disinfectant. it was also made into teas to disinfect sore gums/throats
youth - โMake thee a box of the wood of rosemary, and smell to it and it shall preserve thy youth.โ - Banckes Herbal, 1525. a possible indication of the cultural beliefs surrounding rosemary in this era.ย
- - - - - - - - - -ย
so with superstitions and traditions aside, rosemary itself does have its own medicinal uses. you often see it touted as useful forย โmuscle pain, improving memory, boost the immune and circulatory system, and promote hair growthโ.ย
however, before making a tincture for any of these uses i would recommend looking for medical studies to see how well/proven these uses are.ย
โThou Moon growing, silver glowing, As thou shinest across the skies; Thy light shall flow, blessings bestow, Bring the good and all ill luck fly.โ
Italian traditional folk magick
There is a rich history of traditional magic in Italy, some of which dates back centuries.
Here are a few examples:
The Evil Eye: The belief in the evil eye, or "malocchio," is prevalent in Italian culture. It is said to be caused by someone looking at you with envy or ill will, and can bring about bad luck or misfortune. To protect oneself from the evil eye, some Italians wear red coral jewelry or carry a small horn-shaped charm known as a "cornicello."
Tarantism: Tarantism is a traditional healing ritual that originated in Southern Italy. It involves music, dance, and the use of tarantula venom to cure people who have been bitten by the spider or who are suffering from a variety of ailments. The dance is said to release the toxic energy from the body and restore balance.
Stregoneria: Stregoneria is a form of Italian witchcraft that has been practiced for centuries. It involves the use of spells, charms, and divination to influence the natural world and bring about desired outcomes. Stregoneria practitioners are said to have a deep connection with the earth and the spirits that inhabit it.
La Befana: La Befana is a traditional Italian figure who brings gifts to children on the night of Epiphany (January 6th). She is often depicted as an old woman riding a broomstick and carrying a sack of toys. Legend has it that she visited the baby Jesus on his birth and has been giving gifts to children ever since.
Cimaruta: The cimaruta is a traditional Italian charm that is said to provide protection against evil forces. It is shaped like a sprig of rue, a plant that has long been associated with protection and purification. The charm often features symbols of the moon, stars, and other celestial bodies, as well as images of animals and other nature spirits.
The First House: Our compass; like the spark of vital life energy, that which guides you forward. Ruled by Aries.
The Second House: Our foundation; like a bear preparing for hibernation, what makes you feel secure. Ruled by Taurus.ย
The Third House: Our connections; like an observant child, how you relate to the wider world. Ruled by Gemini.
The Fourth House: Our womb; like a receptive mother, what provides you a sense of home. Ruled by Cancer.
The Fifth House: Our purpose; like a blooming flower, how youย creatively express your unique self. Ruled by Leo.
The Sixth House: Our efficiency; like a true hustler, how you solve problems and improve. Ruled by Virgo.
The Seventh House: Our bonds; like royalty, what influences you to choose who to form unions with. Ruled by Libra.
The Eighth House: Our transformations; like a snake shedding its skin, how you adapt to the rhythms of life. Ruled by Scorpio.
The Ninth House: Our journeys; like a vagabond charting a new map, what opportunities you will lean into. Ruled by Sagittarius.
The Tenth House: Our victories; like the heroic warrior of a story, how you will be of benefit to the world. Ruled by Capricorn.ย
The Eleventh House: Our dreams; like looking deeply into the night sky, what dreams you want to manifest. Ruled by Aquarius.ย
The Twelfth House: Our transcendence; like the chaos in the death of a phoenix, how you will rise again from primordiality. Ruled by Pisces.
You Will Need:ย
ย A small or medium sauce pan/pot
3 Fragrant Red Roses
ย 8 to 10 oz. of Spring Water
I recommend that you let your water be blessed and charged by the sun the day before making this, you could use Moon Water if you wanted to also. Make sure that the water is drinkable though, so donโt use Ocean Water for example.ย
Make sure that your petals are free of all dirt and bugs and if you MUST use store bought roses, thoroughly wash the petals before doing this as they get sprayed in the store with pesticides.ย
Pour your water into your pot and then add the petals one by one making sure again that there are no bugs or dirt that may have been missed.ย
Using a wooden (or plastic if you donโt have wood) spoon, gently submerge the petals, theyโll float, but try to get the tops wet too. Heat slowly on Medium Low heat, do not bring to a boil.ย
After about 30 minutes your water should be turning a light pink color and should be quite fragrant. I let mine heat for 45 minutes to an hour depending on the color and taste. Definitely give it a taste and see if you think itโs strong enough for you, you can always add more petals.ย
The petals should be iridescent once itโs done. Go with what you feel on when you think itโs done, but it shouldnโt ever take more than an hour. Once youโre done fill a jar or bottle with the Rose water and store it in the fridge.ย
This keeps pretty well, up to two months in the fridge, but I wouldnโt let it go much longer than that unless you had to.ย
I hope that helps you guys out, like I said itโs super simple and a lot of it has to do with preference. ย :) ย wiccanwolfinthewoodsย ย Iโd love to see how yours comes out! :)
