Being in a tiny fandom is always being stuck between โI wish more people knew about this thingโ and โI know exactly what problematic elements of the story and annoying discourse topics are going to consume the fandom if more people find out about this thingโ
Anyways look at this pretty cloud I saw today. Very nice.
Del Toro/Mchale adapting Pleasure Island as a Fascist Youth Camp where the boys are forced to train and play war games, turning them from innocent boys into mindless soldiers (jackasses, if you will) is a masterstroke- I think seeing the kids and Pinocchio run around with fake guns and grenades, knowing that something bad was going to happen to those kids was more stress inducing than the original scene in the 1940 version.
It's kind of a weird feeling to witness your childhood small town grow bigger and more commercial. Like I remember a lot of spots being fields with cows and horses, but now they're replaced by neighborhoods, Super Krogers, and endless views of concrete.
Of course stuff like this is inevitable, but it sorta hurts to see it become another place in the U.S. that are identical to eachother.
It's funny that the most homey parts of my town are the ones with gas stations with tin walls, low-roofted small wooden houses, and square concrete buildings with some sort of decorative painting on the outside. Even the large plots of land that have heavily spaced fast food restaurants and a colorless landfill right across the street of them are somewhat comforting.
Anyways this is just me venting a bit, so enjoy the rest of your day/evening ๐๐บ๐๐บ
This year, on the 31 March, we lost Gilbert Baker, gay artist and creator of the gay pride flag. Today we would celebrate his 66th birthday. Letโs remember him as the wonderful person he was.
Ahaa so if you are anything like Julian from Barbie Princess and the Pauper, hmu
