Things I would love to see more of in movies/tv:
Not focused on high school and acting like itās the be all and end all and high school is where everyone peaks and itās all downhill from there, can we PLEASE get university/college shows or even after that? Would love to see more mid-late 20s and beyond thanks.
Also on the topic of people in their 20s and beyond can we get realistic shows that donāt act like weāre all mad successful? Many people my age live with their parents, or roommates, and Iām not talking about some apartment in NYC. That shit is really unrelatable with a lot of millennials/gen z. I get theĀ āyas queenā factor of having people my age running companies but it would be nice to get more middle-class rep. Iām sick of it being either weirdly rich or in poverty.
On that note, can we stop acting like creatives are rolling in dough? Most photographers, writers, etc that I know have to have it as a side hustle or at least have a second job because creatives donāt get paid shit. Characters like Carrie on SATC are extremely difficult to relate to because most creatives do not earn anywhere near that amount.
Justā¦platonic relationships? Idk a lot of my early 20s was me with my friends, I dated a little bit but my friends definitely encompassed my life a lot more, and I would really love to see more of those connections rather than the focus being on getting a partner.
Less focus on sex all the time? Idk why everything involving adults has to involve sex and getting laid lmao thereās a lot more to life than that.
The characters arenāt all model-thin and sample-sized. I get thatās definitely some womenās figure, but it would be awesome to see more representation of varying sizes where they arenātĀ āstand outsā (aka considered theĀ āfatā friend). Idk man Iām a size AU 10 / US 6 and itās pretty ridiculous that even that is consideredĀ ābigā orĀ ācurvyā.
Queer characters where the focus/their story isnāt about their queerness.
Characters who genuinely do not want kids and donāt miraculously change their minds about this because they meet theĀ āright personā.
Characters who donāt really know what theyāre doing with their lives career wise and thatās okay, instead of being treated like every character has aĀ āgoalā in mind.
Characters wearing clothes that arenāt fucking designer clothes lmao.
Idk I really just wanted to see people in their 20s-30s who are human, who are getting by day to day but donāt necessarily have heaps of money aside and who are just taking things as they come, because thatās where I see a lot of people in my age group right now.
Also normalise couples not getting married, not everyone wants to and so many movies/shows treat it as a naturalĀ āconclusionā to a characterās arc.
