MASTERLIST
Polly Gray got out of the car, her son Michael following close behind.
"No. No fucking way," Michael protested as he got out, the springtime air hitting him.
"Have you ever eaten hedgehog, Michael?" Your father called out, making Bonnie laugh.
Polly was sure he was joking. Mostly sure.
"I'm getting back in this car." Michael announced, clearly not pleased.
"Michael, you're number two on Luca Changretta's hit list." Polly informed her son, not having it.
"Yeah, and I'll stay in a hotel," Michael shot back, pulling out his cigarette case and grabbing a cigarette.
"You stay in a hotel, I'll know where you are, so will the people who take you there, so will the people who work at the hotel." Polly said, stepping closer to her son, "And hotels don't move around. They don't even know where they'll be tomorrow. They follow the patrin and the crows."
"And if anyone should come for you, Michael, the Palmers and the Boswell's will put up a fair fight." Aberama informed the boy, Polly looking between the pair.
Michael took a few drags of his cigarette, disdain clear on his face.
"Take your medicine," Polly commanded, stepping past her son to grab them out of the car, ever the worrier.
"I'll take them," Bonnie announced, Polly handing them to the raven haired boy and him nodding a silent promise to take care of them.
"Your painkillers." Polly added, handing them to Bonnie.
"But the healers up there will heal you much quicker." Aberama added, knowing from first hand experience.
"Fucking witches, the lot of them." Michael said, making Bonnie turn around, ready to defend his people.
"Show some respect, Mr. Gray." Bonnie scolded lightly, heading back over to stand with his father, "They've agreed to welcome you on account of your blood."
Michael silently puffed on his cigarette, maintaining eye contact with Bonnie. Bonnie looked at Polly, then walked off, putting the medicines in the vardo Michael would be sleeping in.
"Take your medicine." Polly commanded her son, then handed him a revolver, "Take the gun. I won't be able to contact you. Till you phone me. We'll make a plan. Tommy says it won't be long. Then we'll be free."
A squeal in the tree above them alerted the group, and there you were, sitting with your sister Saoirse, laughing as you held a spider toward her, her shrieking and leaning away.
"Girls, come down!" Your father called out to you, "We've guests!"
You both looked at him, you putting the spider on the tree. Bonnie came over and stood at the base of the tree, arms open, and Saoirse jumped first, landing in Bonnie's arms with a shriek. Bonnie put your sister down, and she ran over to Polly, hugging her.
"Hello, poppet," Polly greeted warmly, smiling down at the child, then looked back over to see you jumping and Bonnie catching you with an 'oof'.
"You're getting too big for your brother to catch you now," Aberama warned the pair of you as you approached the group, arms slung over each other's shoulders, making you giggle.
"She's my little sister, Dad, she'll never get too big for me to catch her," Bonnie countered, a big grin on his face.
You beamed your older brother a toothy grin as he ruffled your already messy hair.
"Especially cause she doesn't grow taller anymore," Bonnie quipped, making you gasp and shove him lightly, giggling.
Polly looked at you in surprise. In this camp, you weren't the difficult girl forced to marry Finn. You were just a girl having fun, being happy. Polly was sure she'd never seen you happy like this before. She didn't think you could get this happy, seeing you at your default of sour most of the time.
"Oh, Saoirse, (Y/N), this is my son Michael. Michael, this is Saoirse and (Y/N), Aberama's other two daughters, Esmeralda, the one who came with us to pick you up, she's the eldest. (Y/N) here is Finn's wife." Polly explained as you all exchanged greetings.
"Speak of the devil," You remark, watching as your husband comes over with the suitcase you had packed, ready to put it in his car.
Finn Junior was right at his heels, sauntering along, little bell on the collar jingling. You noticed a field mouse in his mouth.
"Polly. Michael." Finn greeted, hugging Polly and shaking Michael's hand.
"Nice cat you've got," Michael commented, nodding down at the scraggly grey Maine Coon, making the cat hiss in protest and run over to you.
"It's hers. I wouldn't ever want to keep that fucking feather duster," Finn replied dryly as you crouched and told the cat to ignore the mean bellend holding the suitcase.
"We're off then, see you all later," You announced, having said your proper goodbyes before you climbed the tree, Finn leading you and the cat to the car.
Polly made a mental note to make Tommy let you camp out more when all this shit was over, so you could be happy.
"She shows him his roots, teaches him how to live off the land, and how to speak Shelta, Romani, and Rokka." Aberama informed Polly, coming to stand next to her, "Honestly, you'd think he was a child with how she was babying him when she was teaching him everything."
Polly looked at Aberama, then back at you, who was now mad at Finn for God knows what.
She tried to imagine you, patiently teaching Finn how to skin a rabbit, or gently showing him how to pronounce the words of her mother tongues. She couldn't, no matter how hard she tried. The only way she could imagine you was full of fire, ready to snap at whoever rubbed you the wrong way.
But, watching you as you kissed your crying sister on the forehead, clasped her little hands in yours and promised to visit her whenever you could, she could believe that you were somewhat kind. She couldn't imagine you in the act of kindness, but she could imagine you having kindness stored away somewhere.
Finn was completely right. You really were a contrary little girl.
•••
You were wrapping Bonnie's fists with bandages when Finn walked in with his brothers. His breath caught in his throat at the sight of you. You looked divine. Your hair was twisted back into a low bun at the back of your head, and you were wearing yet another champagne coloured gown, the neckline low enough for the half heart pendant to show. He watched as your gloves fingers skilfully finished their duty, then came to rest at your sides. He noticed you looked taller, most likely wearing heels, and that you were carrying a purse which had a long thin chain that went across your body to sit on the opposite shoulder, most likely carrying a gun inside of it.
Tommy had given you a new gun as a late wedding gift. It had '(Y/N) Shelby' on the butt of it in cursive.
"Bonnie boy! Here we go, boy." Arthur said, catching your brother's attention, as well as your own, as he tipped pills into his hand, "Bring out that fucking tiger, go on."
Bonnie shook his head, "Tiger's already out."
You grinned at your brother for this statement.
"Fair enough," Arthur commented as your brother started bouncing on his heels.
Arthur threw the pills into his own mouth, making your eyes widen. You were certain he would've already done snow this evening.
"Bonnie," Your father started as he walked over to his only son, pulling him close, "Mr. Shelby will give you a 20% cut if you put Goliath down in the fourth round."
Aberama tapped your brother's side, then stepped away.
"Been caged up too long, brother." Arthur announced, heading towards the door, "If the women are going to have fun, so am I!"
Finn held a hand out, and you said see you later to your brother, promising to be sitting front row, and headed over to your husband, walking back out to the ring with him. He lead you to the other Shelby ladies, you would be sat in between Polly and Lizzie. They were the two you liked best. You flat out hated Linda, and Ada you didn't know too well to make a judgement. Your older sister Esmeralda wasn't in attendance tonight, having offered to watch the kids for everyone.
The women greeted you as you sat down, then teased Finn about being a good little husband for walking his wife to her seat. You sat impatiently, wanting your brother to get out into the ring already. You soon enough got your wish, your brother hopping into the ring with a red sash around his black shorts.
"Red for Rose." you mused, putting your head on Polly's shoulder.
She reached up and patted your face. Bonnie always wore red in his fights, for his mother Rose. The fighters got introduced, then the fight started. You immediately started cheering for your brother.
The first round didn't last long, Goliath sending your brother stumbling along the canvas. Your sister was right. He did look like Frankenstein's fucking monster. You internally chuckled as the bell rang, and the men went back to their corners.
The announcer shouted 'Round two!' And the men were back at it again. You felt something wet hit your back, and touched it, bringing your hand around. It was spit. You turned around, and narrowed your eyes at the men. One shifted nervously in his seat, and that's all it took for you to golly right in his eyes, then spin back around in your seat, cheering for your brother. Finn, who watched the scene unfold from the other side of the ring, started laughing as the man behind you furiously rubbed his eyes with his sleeve to rid the area of spit.
Lizzie moved from her seat, and you did too after a few beats, wanting to go to the toilet and wipe the gunk off your back.
You entered the bathroom, Lizzie stopping fixing her hair to look at you, then you went to the stall farthest from the door, then quickly did your business. You heard someone else enter the room and head into a stall.
"So what did Tommy say when you told him?" Polly questioned as you flushed the toilet then exited the stall, washing your hands at the sink next to Lizzie.
"He said I'd get a weekly allowance." Lizzie replied, sounding flat.
"Oh, he can be romantic." Polly snarked as Lizzie wiped your back with paper towel, ridding it of the spit.
You thanked her as you fixed your hair, not having to worry about makeup since you didn't wear any. Your ring caught the light next to the mirrors every time you moved your hand.
"Of course as company treasurer, I shall be questioning that expense." Polly joked as she walked to the sinks.
"He said something like, 'we've had enough death, let's have some life.'" Lizzie stated, bringing a cigarette to her lips.
The door opened, and you looked over to see Ada entering the room.
"Poll," She began, "This fight is fixed, isn't it? Poor Gypsy boy's getting battered out there."
She went and stood at the sinks next to Polly. You hopped up on the ledge and sat, waiting for someone to make a move to leave the bathroom.
You'd rather flush yourself down the toilet than be alone with Linda.
"Yeah, it's fixed. My Bonnie's a good fighter, he'll be fine," You informed Ada, who nodded as she got up onto the counter.
"Right, you said you have some news?" She questioned Polly, who grabbed some makeup out of her bag.
"Lizzie has some news." Polly replied, making you look at the ebony haired woman next to you.
"Polly!" Lizzie said, turning around, clearly not wanting to be put on the spot.
"Well tell her. Now!" Polly demanded, uncapping her perfume, "While the men are screaming for blood."
Lizzie sighed and looked away from the older woman.
"Have a swig. You're gonna need it," Polly advised Ada as she handed Ada the bottle of gin.
You wiggled on the spot, feeling like you were intruding on a family moment. Lizzie, sending your discomfort, leaned over and put a hand on your knee, giving you a look that told you that you were fine.
You nodded, then she stood back up and looked in the mirror.
"I'm up the duff," Lizzie announced, "And it's Tommy's."
You watched as Polly lit a cigarette, taking a long drag.
Ada gulped down the gin and handed the bottle back to Polly, "How far gone are you?"
"If I were going to London I'd be in Coventry." Lizzie informed Ada, making you giggle.
"And are you carrying on past Coventry?" Ada questioned, gripping the bench.
"All the way to fucking Piccadilly Circus." Lizzie replied, bringing her smoke back up to have a puff.
"You found out whether she's having a boy or a girl, Poll?" Ada asked, looking over at her aunt.
"No." Polly answered, taking a big swig of the gin.
"Go on then," Ada urged, hopping off the counter as Polly approached Lizzie.
"(Y/N) had a dream about it. Let's see if she's right," Lizzie added, looking at you with a small grin on her crimson painted lips.
You reached over and grabbed the gin off of Polly as she started feeling Lizzie's breast, making you all chuckle. You uncapped the bottle and took your own swig, feeling the liquor burn your throat. Lizzie continued giggling, Polly now using two hands.
"It's a girl," Polly spoke, making you clap.
Ada turned around in the mirror to look at Lizzie, happiness clear on her face.
"Call her Ruby. Ruby Shelby. She'll be a star in a Hollywood movie." Polly informed Lizzie, looking at her.
"(Y/N) said all of that, she said she had a dream about it." Lizzie stated, making Polly look at you.
"Her father's mother had second sight. Maybe she inherited it too." Polly mused.
"I was right!" You cheered, holding the bottle of gin up then taking another swig.
"Congratulations." Ada said after crossing the room, pulling Lizzie into a hug.
Lizzie kissed Polly's cheek and hugged the shorter girl, smiling as she did so. The door opened, and in walked Linda. You grimaced, and took another swig. Polly gestured for you to jump off the bench and join the group, and you did so, ending up between Polly and Lizzie, the pair's arms over your shoulders, and your gloved hands on theirs.
"Hey, Linda." Polly greeted, cigarette in hand, "Welcome to the extraordinary general meeting of the Shelby ladies club."
You all giggled at Polly's words, looking between yourselves. Linda paid you all no mind as she looked at her back in the mirror.
"Is there spit on my back?" Linda questioned, "There were men out there spitting, it's fucking disgusting."
"No, there's no spit on your back," Polly sighed as she walked away from your side, over to Linda, "Don't let us stop you doing what you came in to do."
You stayed by Lizzie, who still had her arm slung around your shoulder.
Linda looked up, momentarily stopping hitting the little blue bottle on the bench, "What? It's helped me get through the fucking nightmare of being stuck in this city."
"Well, since you're here and you're almost family, Lizzie's got some news." Polly said, watching Linda as she lined up the white powder.
"I'm pregnant." Lizzie announced proudly, her smile audible.
"Oh? And who's the father, have you managed to narrow it down?" Linda snarked, making you frown as she rolled up a bill and snorted the line.
"Shut the fuck up and snort your lines before I break a mirror and cut you with the glass, you sanctimonious snow snorting slut!" You barked at the blonde woman, making her pale.
Polly's eyebrows flew up. She fully expected you to slap Linda silly.
Lizzie squeezed your shoulder, a sign to stop, "Yes. It's Tommy."
"Congratulations!" Linda said, not sounding very congratulatory, "You've won the raffle at last."
"Yeah, she's a real Shelby lady now, Linda." Polly stated, wiping the excess snow from under Linda's nose, "Just like you."
"I suspect that you're a better woman than her." You spat quietly, and heard Lizzie going to laugh but covering it with a cough.
"Right ladies, let's rejoin our gentlemen." Polly said, gathering her stuff.
"And remember Linda, if they spit, just spit back." Polly told her, making Lizzie roll her eyes at the thought of Linda even trying to spit on someone.
"I spat back." You announced proudly, Polly looking at you, then nodding.
"She gollied right in his fucking eyes, maybe you can learn something from her." Ada muttered, her heels clacking against the floor as you all walked back out to the ring.

MASTERLIST
I twirled my finger in the telephone cord nervously until I heard Lizzie's 'hello?'
"Oh! Lizzie, it's (Y/N), I've just had a dream, and I needed to tell you because you were in it," I rambled as Finn Junior came and weaved between my legs.
'Was it a vision, like the ones Polly has?' Lizzie inquired, and I shrugged.
"I'm not sure, but it felt real enough," I admitted as Finn came down the hall, just waking up, his curly hair all over the place and only wearing boxers and a singlet.
Finn jutted his chin up, and I mouthed 'Lizzie', making him nod as he put the kettle on to boil then reached up to grab two mugs. I watched him as he did so, revelling in how the skin tightened over the muscles in his upper arm, showing them off.
'Tell me about it,' Lizzie demanded softly, bringing me back to reality and making me avert my eyes from Finn.
"You had a baby, and she grew up to be gorgeous, like someone you'd see in the pictures. Her name was Ruby," I stated, leaning back against the bench, smiling slightly, "And I saw her father, too. The blue eyed devil. You know exactly who I'm talking about."
'Tommy Shelby,' She sighed, then took a slight pause, 'It's true. I am pregnant, and he's the father. He doesn't know yet.'
"Are - Are you keeping her?" I asked, shifting my weight from one foot to the other, Finn now going over and relighting the fire.
'Yes. I want a baby,' She states, making me grin.
"Well then, Miss Stark, congratulations. I'll knit you some baby boots, beanies, and a blanket." I informed her.
'I don't need them just yet!' Lizzie protested with a chuckle.
"It'll be good to have them on hand," I pointed out, making her hum in agreement.
'I'm feeling a bit tired, I reckon I need some more sleep, see you at the shop?' Lizzie said, then yawned.
"See you at the shop. Talk to you later," I replied, then Lizzie hung up.
"Who's the father of her baby?" Finn questioned, and I put my finger to my lips, signalling that it was a secret.
Finn huffed, but nodded as he came back over and grabbed a spoon out of the drawer and put sugar into his blue mug.
"I'll take Jenica's cake tin back over to her," I said as it caught my eye on the bench.
"Who the fuck is Jenica?" He asked, pouring the now boiled water into his mug.
"My cousin, Jenica Palmer. She's probably your distant fucking relation too, with how big and connected gypsy families are," I remarked, then chuckled.
"I'll come with you," Finn announced after pouring milk into his cup.
"You've been in my pocket ever since I got back, Finn Shelby, I don't think so," I warned, wagging my finger.
Finn nodded, knowing not to push my limits, then handed me the tin, "Take a gun with you, put it in your bra or something. City's still dangerous."
"I will," I snapped, frowning as I turned on my heel and went up the corridor, grabbing Finn's handgun off of the table, unloading it then putting it into my bra.
I grabbed the silencer too, putting it into my bra.
I knew that we were in trouble, it held on to the Shelby's like a bulldog. I didn't need reminders every five seconds. I grabbed my socks and put them on, then grabbed my boots, pulling them on. I looked over at my vanity, and decided that the walk was too far away, instead grabbing the hair tie on my wrist and scraping my hair up into a bun, grabbing my coat, and walking back out to the living room, where Finn was frying, eggs, sausages, and tomatoes in a pan, cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth.
"I won't be long," I informed him, making him nod.
I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down a reminder to knit the stuff for Lizzie, and one to buy our own cake tin, then left the flat, borrowed cake tin in hand. I walked along the balcony in front of the apartments, humming a song I had heard on the radio.
I went upstairs, then entered the building, taking the internal stairwell instead of the fire escape for once, sick of the clanging sound it made with my boots.
I walked up to the fifth floor, and headed to the third door on the right, knocking on it.
Jenica opened the door, baby Violet on her hip.
"Cousin," She greeted warmly, pulling me in for a hug.
"Hello, cousin. I brought your cake tin back," I said as I released her from the hug, handing it to her, "I've got to get back to the apartment before Finn sends out a fucking search party, I'll come visit you and baby soon."
I pressed a kiss to Violet's forehead, making her giggle.
"All good, see you then." She said, and shut the door.
I walked down the internal staircase, and heard a familiar voice yell; "Everyone stay indoors! Stay down! By order of the Peaky Blinders!"
"Oh, fuck," I muttered, yanking the gun out of my bra, "I should've stayed home."
As I was putting the silencer on the gun, I looked down, and Tommy was coming up the stairwell.
"Thomas!" I hissed, making him look up, "What's going on?"
He ignored my question as he approached me, grabbing my arm and dragging me along with him.
"Why do you have a gun like that? Are the Italians here?" I questioned, and he shushed me as he continued to lead me God knows where.
My heart started racing. I didn't know these buildings like the back of my hand. I wasn't a Shelby, born and raised here like he was. I felt blind.
He stopped and leaned against a wall, panting. I started panting too, although it was from nerves instead of being out of breath. I reloaded my gun, then watched as Tommy reloaded his gun, then I pocketed the empty cartridge, making him look at me.
"You've been pushing papers around for too long, that could lead them to us!" I busted quietly, making him nod.
We heard voices in the stairwell, so he lead me through the door on our right. He lead me through the building to a fire escape, and looked around quickly. He lead me downstairs. I noticed someone walking down the street, and aimed my gun at them.
"Oi!" I called out, making him turn around, revealing the gun at his side.
I took one shot, sending a bullet through his head, watching as he fell to the ground in a heap.
"Stay here, watch my back, and if Luca comes, I get that shot," Tommy commanded, and I did so, kneeling down and pressing my back into the window behind me to make myself less visible from the street.
My hands were shaky, and cold. I heard someone speaking Italian as Tommy stepped off of the bottom step, and peeked over the edge of the landing, watching as Luca Changretta took shots at Tommy. I kept my eyes on the pair as they exchanged shots, then as Luca's gun ran out of bullets.
He put the gun down, and walked towards Tommy, and another Italian appeared from around the corner. I steadied myself, then took a shot and killed the other Italian, making Luca jump as his crony hit the ground. I let out a breath, then ran back upstairs and in the door Tommy and I just exited, making my way back to my own apartment.
I tried the front door, and found it locked.
"Finn!" I called out desperately as I knocked on the door, feeling shaken.
Finn opened the door, and I pushed past him, tripping over my own feet as I run to the bathroom, and knelt in front of the toilet, where I promptly vomited. I didn't even have anything to eat yet, so it felt horrid.
As I dry heaved, I felt a hand rub my back. Finn.
"What happened? Italians?" He asked, and I nodded, flushing the toilet.
"Tommy — I came across him when I was coming back from Jenica's. He had Italians after him, and he dragged me along with him. I don't know these streets, I don't know these buildings, I was fucking blind, thrown in the deep end!" I spat, feeling tears well up in my eyes, "If I knew what was happening and if I knew these buildings I'd be fine, but fucking hell, he just ordered me about like I was a soldier under his command, never again!"
I wiped them away angrily with a sniff, then heard stuff hit the sink, and the sound of something filling up. I looked up to see Finn offering me the cup that our toothbrushes usually sat in, but filled with water. I took it, muttering a quiet 'thank you' and took a sip, swishing it around my mouth then spitting it into the toilet, repeating the action until my mouth felt clean. I handed the cup back to Finn, who sat it on the sink, then helped me stand up on shaky legs.
"Feeling sick still? Want to eat breakfast?" Finn asked, and I shrugged.
"I'll keep it warm on the fire until you feel alright. You should shower, I've got a feeling we're going to have a family meeting soon." He stated, and I nodded, turning the water on.
"I'll set you out some clean clothes," Finn mumbled as he exited the bathroom, closing the door behind him.
I stripped down and hopped into the shower, welcoming the feeling of the warm water on my skin. I had washed my hair last night, so there was no need to do it now. I stood under the hot water for a bit, waiting until I felt all of the tension wash off of me, then moved to clean my body, deciding to use Finn's body wash instead of my own. Once I was done, I turned off the shower and leaned out, grabbing my towel off of the rack and drying myself, then wrapping it around my body. I put my dirty clothes, bar my coat, which had been washed yesterday, into the laundry basket behind the door, picked up my boots, and walked to my room, shutting the door behind me.
I spotted the clothes Finn put out on my bed, walking over and drawing the curtains closed, then quickly got dressed, then put my boots on. I walked over to my vanity and grabbed my brush, undoing my bun with one hand, and pulling my hair over my shoulder, detangling my hair then pulling it down into a plait, in case I had to do any more fighting today.
I walked out of my room, down to the kitchen. The smell of food didn't make my stomach turn, a good sign. Finn was plating up the food. I walked over to the cupboard and grabbed my yellow mug down, making myself a cup of tea.
"You feel alright now?" Finn asked, and I nodded.
"Fuckin' nerves making me sick, that's all it was," I grumbled, taking a sip of my tea.
I grabbed my plate from Finn and carried it over to the table, placing it and my cup down, then headed over to the cupboard, grabbing a tin of cat food out and putting it into Finn Junior's bowl. I was surprised to learn that, while I was with the Italians, Finn had gotten the cat bowls, beds, blankets, and even a litter box with the cat's name on it. And the pair of them still hate each other.
I put Finn Junior's bowl down at the end of the bench, and he got up from his place in front of the fire and sauntered over, purring as he swayed his tail.
I sat at the table, next to Finn instead of across from him, and started eating, thanking him for the food first. We ate in a comfortable silence, and once we were done I took everything to the sink and washed them up, leaving them in the rack to dry.
The phone rang, and I picked it up.
"Hello?" I greeted my hand coming up to fiddle with my half heart pendant.
'(Y/N)? Family meeting, one hour. Polly's house.' Tommy said, then hung up.
"Fuck!" I bellowed, slamming the phone back down.
"What happened?" Finn asked, coming to stand next to me.
"Family meeting, one hour, his house," I mocked in a deep voice, making Finn chuckle.
"We can't even take the car because you got sick in it last night and it still stinks," I grouched, making Finn blush.
He was absolutely legless, Isiah had to call me to come get him from the Garrison. I should've left him there on the floor, or behind the bar.
"I'll call Arthur to come pick us up," He stated, making me nod, "I'll go have a shower, I'll be ready to leave in fifteen, I can read you some of the paper before we leave if you want."
I narrowed my eyes at him, "Why are you being nice to me? Is it so I won't be mad at Tommy?"
He looked taken aback, then narrowed his own eyes at me, "Am I not allowed to be nice to my wife? Would you rather be a drop dead cunt?"
"No — But you were never nice before I got taken!" I defended myself, making Finn roll his eyes and turn on his heel, heading to his room.
"You are worth the effort, fuck what anyone else told you before," He threw back quietly over his shoulder, then added, "If you weren't so contrary all the time we'd probably be an alright pair."
I scowled and picked up the pan that Finn had used to cook the food, and launched it after him, "I'm not fucking contrary! I'm complicated!"
He just laughed me off, "Yeah, you've got layers; like an onion."
"Stop comparing me to an onion!" I shrieked, before regaining my composure.
I looked down at Finn Junior, who was looking up at me with a funny look on his face.
"Don't stare at me like that."
•••
"They're here," Polly announced, looking out of the window and seeing Arthur, Linda, you, and Finn in Arthur's car.
You were poking Finn in the side of the head, talking animatedly. Polly wouldn't be surprised if you were arguing about something. Again.
Finn hopped out of the car, helping you out, then all four of you crossed the street, heading to Polly's. Once inside, you sat at Polly's dining table. There were only four seats, Arthur and Johnny Doggs took two, Lizzie and Finn taking the other. Finn pulled you down to sit on his lap, and, to everyone's surprise, you stayed there, not protesting as he sat a hand on your hip.
You were glad Finn let you sit in his lap, because nothing could make you stand next to Linda. At least this way Finn could hold you back if you tried to hit her. Standing on the other side of Charlie meant standing behind Johnny Doggs. Finn figured that this way was the best bet.
"So," Arthur began, tipping the contents of a small blue bottle onto the table, "What the fuck happened today, Tom? We all heard, shooting in Artillery Square."
Tommy nodded softly, "Yeah, there was. Today I killed two men. (Y/N) killed two as well. Now our enemies will have to wait."
You saw out of the corner of your eye the other three sat at the table looking at you in disbelief. You didn't blame them. You didn't look all that threatening, but that's precisely why you were dangerous. No one would expect the gypsy girl to be wielding a gun.
"I suppose they uh, I suppose they took you by surprise, did they?" Arthur questioned, tapping his blue bottle on the table one last time.
"No. They took (Y/N) by surprise; I knew they were coming." Tommy informed the group, making you and Finn side eye each other.
Why weren't you told that Tommy was going gallivanting in your backyard; with all guns blazing? You two could've helped, or hid.
"Just after Christmas I received a letter from Luca Changretta, offering to spare my son if I gave up Tommy. And I gave Tommy up." Polly said, making your eyebrows shoot up.
She was either very stupid or very brave to do that. You thought the latter.
"Because that was the plan that Polly and I agreed on," Tommy added, "I knew that Luca would want to pull that trigger himself, so I used the set up as bait to bring him in. (Y/N) just happen to be in the wrong place at the right time, and thank fuck she had a gun."
Finn squeezed your waist at this statement.
"Never again, I went in blind. I didn't know what the fuck was happening, or why, and I didn't know that building. Next time you need my help, you tell me beforehand," You warned Tommy, who nodded.
"You're a fucking idiot, Tom." Arthur said, sniffing and jerking around in his seat, the snow probably already taking its effect.
"Look, I didn't get Changretta, but I got two and (Y/N) got two, together we got four. All right? That's it, that's what happened." Tommy said in his 'that's final' voice.
Charles came into the room, and Tommy picked him up.
"Aye, but he's right. I mean, it thought you'd gone soft." Johnny Doggs said, standing up from the table and chuckling, "So you got two? And the lass did too?"
"Yeah, I got three. She only needed one shot each, fucking good aim on her." Tommy said, adjusting his son on his hip.
"Well, I'll drink to you, Tom, you mad bastard. And to you, (Y/N), for your services." Charlie said, raising his glass.
"You make it sound like I'm a whore." You said blankly, making Lizzie chuckle, "No offence, Lizzie."
A laugh went around the room, Finn pulling you in so you were leaning against his body.
"Pretty soon, you are gonna get the shakes when your blood cools down. Now, let's go get a drink," Arthur said to his brother.
"Dad, you got four what?" Charles asked, a big grin on his face.
"I got four shillings for a three-shilling horse." Tommy stated, making you chuckle, "Now, my boy, you come with us, huh?"
You watched as all of the men walked out of the room, bar your husband.
"You going to drink with them?" You asked Finn, who shook his head, "I've got whiskey here."
You hummed in agreement, watching carefully as he poured you a glass, and topped his up. You missed the knowing look that the women down the other end of the table shared.

MASTERLIST
After explaining to Tommy and the lot how I escaped and got back to the den, I found out that Dad had killed two Italians, so there's only ten left, eleven if the one I scrapped with didn't bleed out. I asked if I could go home so I could get out of the filthy sundress, and Tommy agreed. Finn asked to drive the car, and I said yes, just wanting to go home, shower, and eat some food.
"Close your eyes," Finn commanded lightly as he started the Rolls Royce.
"Why?" I demanded as I put my coat back on, not in the mood for games.
"I've got a surprise," He said simply, making me roll my eyes but comply, shutting them and placing my hand over them.
I started humming as I felt the car lurch forward, driving off. A sharp pain shot through my stomach as it growled, making me groan. Maybe I should've taken my breakfast with me as one last stand against those people. They seem uptight enough to get upset over a missing plate.
"I'm hungry," I complained, then heard Finn sigh.
"I'll make you whatever you want after I show you the surprise," He promised, making me grin.
The Italians did make nice food, but not what I liked to eat. I wanted comfort food, and a lot of it.
"Pancakes?" I questioned hopefully, making him chuckle.
"Yes, pancakes." He agreed as he stopped the car, "I'll come around to your side and guide you, don't open your eyes until I say."
I nodded, and he opened his door, then shut it. I heard his shoes hitting the cobbled street as he came around the car, and opened my door.
"Want me to hold your head so you don't hit it on the car getting out?" Finn offered, and I gave a thumbs up.
Once I felt his hand on the top of my head, I got out, making sure to duck as I did so. Once I was standing up, he pulled me out of the way then shut my door.
He guided me across the street, I could feel the drop from the pavement to the road, then the small step up from the road to the pavement again.
He guided me a bit further, then stopped.
"Fuck," I heard him mutter frustratedly.
"What?" I asked softly, feeling confused.
"There's stairs. I didn't think about them," He admitted, making me frown.
"Do you want me to carry you up them, you make your own way up with my hand to steady you, or you open your eyes but look directly down at the stairs so you don't see anything else?" Finn questioned.
It must've been really important for him to not want me to look. Now I really wanted to look.
"Um, option three please," I replied, and he gave my back a pat.
I directed my head down towards the ground, and opened my eyes. I walked up the stairs, holding onto the railing next to me, and stopped once I reached the top of the stairs. Finn came up next to me, and I covered my eyes once more, reaching out to him so he could guide me.
He grabbed my hand, moving in closer and wrapping his arm around my waist and starting to walk once more. He stopped after twenty-one steps.
I heard keys jingling, then a door opening.
He pushed me forward, "Open your eyes."
I took my hand away from my eyes, and looked around the room. Finn Junior came bounding up to me from the couch.
"It's ours," Finn informed me, walking in and shutting the door behind him.
"It's bare," Was the first thing that came out of my mouth, making me frown.
I didn't mean for it to come out, I just blurted it.
"I know, I was waiting for you to come back," Finn confessed, the sentence making me feel warm inside.
At least he was considerate, sometimes.
He then led me to the bathroom, giving me a towel with my initials embroidered onto it. He left for a few seconds, then came back with a clean set of my clothes, handing them to me, then walking out of the bathroom.
I turned the shower on and stripped off, not caring if the water was cold as I hopped in. I would only be washing my body as I washed my hair this morning. I had to use some of Finn's body wash, mine not being brought over yet.
Once I washed the body wash off of me, I turned the shower off and dried myself, quickly getting dressed, throwing the bloodstained dress into the tub, ignoring it for the time being.
I walked out into the kitchen, and Finn had a stack of pancakes on a plate, placing them down on the table. He pulled his chair around so it was sat next to the empty one. I plopped myself down in the empty chair, and Finn Junior came and sat on my feet.
"They look nice," I said, grabbing one off of the stack and tearing a chunk off, popping it into my mouth.
"Saoirse told Arthur that they were one of your favourite foods, then the pair of 'em cornered me and forced me to learn how to make pancakes," He revealed, rubbing his arm, "She whacked me with a wooden spoon when I burned one and the bruise is still here."
I pouted, then ate another bit of pancake. I hummed in content, tapping my feet against the floor.
"I missed you," Finn said as he grabbed his own pancake, making me cock a brow.
"It's too quiet without you and your noise," He added, making me roll my eyes.
"I missed you too," I admitted uneasily, feeling awkward, "There was no one to start up on, and they all just left me alone, and Luca wouldn't read me the newspaper like you do."
Finn nodded, remaining silent and hard in thought as he chewed his pancake. He swallowed it, then muttered 'fuck it', leaning over and pulling me into a tight hug.
I gasped at the sudden contact, stiffening, then melting into his grip, hugging him back, feeling comfort in his embrace, a welcome change from the physical contact the Italian was giving me earlier. It was warm and grounding. It felt nice. He gave me a squeeze then let go, sitting back up in his seat, then grabbing another pancake. We ate in a comfortable silence, and once we were finished, Finn jumped up and washed the plate.
"We have two bedrooms, I gave you the one with the window. I packed some of your clothes and brought them here, but there's still some at the watery Lane house." Finn said, leading me down the small hallway, showing me my room beside the bathroom.
It contained a four poster queen sized bed, yellow doona cover and black pillows, to match the black canopy over my bed, as well as a vanity, chest of drawers, a black bedside table, and a wardrobe. In the middle of the room on the floor was a yellow rug, and in corner of the room was a bed for Finn Junior.
I headed across the hall to Finn's room, wanting to see what it was like. It had the same four poster bed, but with a blue blanket instead of a yellow one, a chest of drawers, wardrobe, black bedside table, writing desk, and a bed for Finn Junior in the corner, a blue rug on the floor. A handful of empty, small, blue glass bottles caught my eye on the bedside table, making me frown. I walked over there and counted. There was ten, too many for my liking. Too many for anyone in that short amount of time I was gone.
"Have you had all this snow while I was gone?" I questioned, turning around to face Finn.
He drew himself up straighter and nodded, "So? If you don't like snow I'm not going to stop it."
"I wasn't going to ask you to stop, bellend!" I snapped, "That's too much in too little time, it can kill you!"
"I had to stay awake somehow, no one else was worried about finding you like I was," Finn flung back, stepping closer so we were chest to chest.
"That's how you die, Finn, don't you ever ever do that ever again, if I catch you doing it again I'll throttle you with my bare hands myself," I threatened, jabbing him in the chest with my finger as I looked up at him, "I've seen too many people in the dark corners of fairgrounds have one line of snow too many and drop dead where they sat and I'll be damned if I let it happen to you. On race days, fun nights, and special occasions only, and only enough to get yourself out of the gate, are we clear?"
Finn's face softened as he nodded, "Clear."
"Are you addicted to it?" I asked him, making him shake his head, "Good. I'd get a divorce somehow if you were."
I heard the front door swing open, "Where's my Bee at?"
"Dad!" I squealed, pushing past Finn and running out to him.
Bonnie and him were stood in just inside the door. I ran into Dad's arms, hugging him tightly. Dad lifted me off my feet, making me squeal.
"Your brother said we could take her to our camp for the night." Bonnie said to Finn, pulling me into a hug after Dad put me down.
"Can I come?" Finn asked, surprising me.
Dad looked at me, and I nodded, making him grin and turn back to Finn, "Well, who am I to seperate a man and his wife?"
•••
Finn had been somewhat clingy, following me everywhere, just wanting to be in my general vicinity. I chalked it up to the snow and lack of sleep, and made him go to sleep in my vardo. He was snoring within minutes of putting his head on the pillow, even though the sun was shining through the windows. I made sure to cover all of the windows so the light wouldn't wake him, though.
Now I was in Bonnie's vardo, laid on the bed with him, his dog Tig, Tuck, Ezzie, and her dog Rosie. It was a tight fit, but we knew how to make it work because we had been doing this ever since Dad took me from Mum. The only difference between now and when we first started doing it was that one of us had to sit at the foot end of the bed so we could all be comfortable, dogs included.
I was currently laid down on my back at the foot end, my feet up on the wall, looking up at Bonnie and Ezzie.
I couldn't stop giggling at the pair's recount of how Bonnie and Isiah had a good-natured fight so Isiah could see if Bonnie was the real deal, which ended in Bonnie knocking poor Isiah out cold. Ezzie had to help Bonnie carry Isiah home and look after him until he woke up because she was scared he was hurt.
"I've got my first proper fight set up," Bonnie informed me as I hugged Tuck.
"Really?" I replied, moving to sit up properly, feeling excited, "Who with?"
"Tommy has an acquaintance named Alfie Solomons, big down in London, he put his nephew Goliath forward for me to fight. He's fucking huge," Bonnie said, making Ezzie nod.
"I saw him. He's like fucking Frankenstein's monster, honest!" Ezzie exclaimed, making me snort.
"Do you think you'll be able to take him?" I questioned seriously, and Bonnie grinned.
"I could move a mountain if I tried hard enough, Bee, don't you worry." He reassured, making me smile.
I heard someone call out for Bonnie, and Bonnie clambered over Ezzie's legs, hopping down, then grabbing Tig and putting him down on the ground.
"I'll be back," Bonnie promised, ruffling my hair then leaving.
Ezzie yawned, making me look at her as she scratched her neck. As her shirt collar moved down, I saw a purple bruise contrasting against the pale skin of her neck.
"Is that what I think it is!" I shrieked, pointing at her neck.
She quickly covered it, going red in the face, "No!"
"Oh, it is!" I crowed, clapping my hands, "Who did it?"
"None of your business!" She snapped, making me roll my eyes.
"I won't tell anyone if you tell me who did it, honest!" I begged, wanting to know who my sister had been bedding.
"Fine," She folded, "Isiah Jesus gave it to me. Don't you dare tell anyone!"
I started cackling, "The preacher's boy? Oh, Ezzie!"
Ezzie crossed her arms and turned away, but I could see the tips of her ears burning.
"I'm sorry," I told her honestly, "I was just teasing. He's a nice boy, he teaches me to read when his dad is busy."
"He's been teaching us to read too, that's where I met him," Ezzie said shyly, turning back to me, "He took me to the pictures the other night, when I stayed at Polly Gray's. That's when this happened."
I 'aww'ed, but felt envious that she could choose who she pursued. I was trapped, bound to Finn until one of us died. The thought suddenly made me feel sick, and I spat my chewing gum out into the bin sitting beside the bed.
"You alright?" Ezzie asked concernedly, crawling down to sit next to me.
"Just fine," I answered bitterly, then shook my head to chase the thoughts away, turning to her, "So, tell me everything about you and preacher boy."

Part 1
MASTERLIST
I had been here for about five days. I think. Assuming that the meals they had been bringing me were when they had their breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I hadn't killed any Italians, but I did maim the one who knocked me unconscious in Watery Lane, when he brought me my lunch the other day. Luca hadn't been too pleased when he found out, but he did agree that he didn't say anything about not maiming any of his men.
I was sitting on the floor, drawing on the wall with a piece of chalk Luca had given me. I would lose my mind if I was stuck down here with nothing to do. There wasn't even any windows. The air felt staler than bread that had been left out.
I heard the door unlock, and spun around on the spot. Luca was coming down the stairs, no tray full of food in hand.
"Is it breakfast already?" I questioned, feeling confused.
I had woken up a while ago, but I was sure that breakfast wasn't for a bit.
"Not yet," Luca informed me, coming to stand in front of me, putting his hands into his pocket, "For your good behaviour, ignoring that one incident, I've decided to grant you a wish."
"Let me go home?" I remarked, making him chuckle.
"Something more doable." Luca stated, looking down at me and waiting for my answer.
"Can — Can I be put into a room with windows?" I inquired, trying push the feelings of hopefulness away.
"Yes. We've got a room ready upstairs for you." Luca replied, "Your ma said you would want that."
I frowned. They already had me, why would they want her around?
Luca reached a hand out, and I ignored it, pushing off the floor and standing up, feeling a bit unsteady on my feet. He turned and lead me upstairs, into the living room, the room with the phone. Some men were sitting around the coffee table playing cards. I quickened my pace, wanting to get away from them.
He lead me to the corner of the room, then put a bit of pressure on a panel, stepping to the side then taking his hand off of it, making it swing back.
He lead me up the narrow staircase, and we ended up in a corridor of doors. He showed me my new room, the door second on the left.
He unlocked the door, both the deadbolt, which had been reversed so that the keyhole was on the inside, and the regular door lock, which had also been reversed.
"You gonna try to escape?" Luca asked lazily as he opened the door.
"No. It's not worth it," I replied, scowling.
If I did have a clear chance to escape though, I wouldn't hesitate.
"Bathroom's through there." Luca stated, knocking on the door to his left, "You share it with the room on the other side of it. That room happens to be my room. Don't worry, I don't like little girls."
I'd be stupid to take his word. He said no kids, but yet here I am, locked up at God knows where.
I walked into the room, looking around. The window had been painted black, from the outside, so I couldn't see out. I could see that it was cracked a tiny bit at the bottom to let fresh air through. To the left of the window, against the left wall, next to the bathroom door was a chest of drawers and a small mirror sat on top of it, along with a hairbrush and some hair ties, and ribbon.
There was a double bed with a plain white blanket and pillows in the far corner, a bedside table next to it. A small stool sat next to the beside table, a blue, soft looking towel folded up on it.
"I have razors in the medicine cabinet behind the mirror if you want to shave, however, I'll be expecting them all back in one piece. If not, I know a few of my men think that you're pretty enough." Luca announced, making my blood run cold.
I walked into the bathroom, and found a clawfoot bathtub in the left corner closest to Luca's room, a shower to my left, and a toilet to my right. I could see a towel on the rack behind Luca's door. In between the tub and the shower was a small cupboard which I assumed was the cupboard for towels. There was a sink in the right corner, opposite the bath. On the sink, I could see female shampoo, body wash, and conditioner.
"I won't let any of my men touch you, Mrs Shelby. Unless you give me good reason to." Luca declared, coming to watch me look through the medicine cabinet and grab a razor.
"I'll leave you to it." Luca announced, turning on his heel and walking out of the bedroom, locking the door behind him.
I dropped the razor into the tiled floor. I couldn't get to the window fast enough, dropping onto my knees and trying to look out of the tiny sliver that let in fresh air. I could see rolling green fields, and a road in front of us. It was a dirt road. The sun was only beginning to rise.
"Fuck!" I hissed.
I had no idea where I was. They were smart not to let me near a clock. If I had seen one when I woke up I could figure out where I might be, and how far away I was from Birmingham.
I tried pushing the window up, to no avail. I looked around the edges of the window. I could see dried glue coming out of the joints.
Fuck me.
I decided to go have a shower, feeling utterly filthy. I probably stunk worse than Bonnie after he finished a boxing match.
I walked back into my room, and grabbed my towel, throwing it over my shoulder then heading to the dresser. I opened the top drawer. Sundresses. I shut that drawer, and looked for other clothing. The other three drawers were completely empty.
Unbelievable.
I went back to the top drawer, and found a pale yellow sundress.
"It'll have to do," I decided, heading to the bathroom.
I started the shower, letting the water heat up as I went and grabbed the brush from the dresser. I picked up the razor, and locked both doors leading to the bathroom. I grabbed the stuff off of the sink and placed it into the shower, happy that I didn't have to smell manly. It'd feel weird, especially while I was in a dress.
I stripped off and hopped into the shower, brush and razor in hand. I didn't waste any time putting the conditioner into my hair, then pulling my hair up into a bun. My hair was knotted badly, but nothing the brush and some patience wouldn't be able to fix.
I began washing myself with the body wash, then lathering it onto my legs. I picked up the razor and started carefully shaving my legs, not wanting to nick them. I hated leg hair. I couldn't stand it, and I couldn't stand other people's leg hair touching my legs. Once, I made Bonnie shave his legs so he could sleep in my bed when one of our uncles had to sleep in his vardo. I chuckled at the memory, Bonnie being livid that I 'stripped him of his God given right to hairy legs'.
Once I was done, I shaved my underarms. I hated hair there, too. It was annoying. I washed the razor, then placed it on the small ledge in front of me. I picked up my brush, and pulled my hair over my shoulder, starting to detangle my hair at the bottom, then slowly working my way up. Once it was knot free I grabbed some shampoo, then applied that, then some more conditioner.
I cleaned under my nails too, having been surprised at how quick they grew without me chewing them. I'd have to ask Ezzie to paint my nails when I saw her next. I can't paint nails, I never did it enough to gain good ability.
I turned the shower off, then grabbed my towel and dried myself quickly, wrapping the towel around my body to shield myself in case anyone came into the bathroom. I wrung my hair out in the shower, then I stepped on my dirty shirt and used it to keep the floor dry as I shuffled along to the small cupboard next to the shower. I opened it, and grabbed the purple towel on top of the pile. I wrapped my hair up in it, then grabbed my under layers, putting them on then putting on the pale yellow sundress.
I dried my brush with the blue towel, knowing I'd probably use it again soon to pull my hair back somehow. I always pulled my hair back when I was in trouble, because no hair would fall into my eyes if I had to fight.
I put my blue towel onto the towel rack on the door leading to my room, then gathered my clothes and took them back to my room. I folded them up and placed them neatly on my bed. I unwrapped my hair from its towel turban, then started towel drying it. I could smell bacon cooking. They must be starting breakfast.
Once it was no longer overly wet, and just damp, I detangled it, then parted it in the usual spot, making sure to split it all the way down to the nape of my neck, then began braiding my hair. I walked over to the dresser and got a hair band, tying off the first one then beginning the second. Once I tied off that one I grabbed two blue ribbons, tying them around the hair bands.
I heard men chattering outside, so I peeked through the crack. They were walking away from the house. I counted ten. Arthur killed two at the warehouse. That means that there's three still here with me. I heard the locks click behind me, and quickly moved to my dresser, inspecting the ribbons on it.
The door swung open, and I looked at the man carrying the tray with my food. I recognised him as one of the men playing cards at the table.
I looked at the food on the tray. Scrambled eggs and bacon with toast on a ceramic plate, and orange juice in a glass cup. I tried to fight off a chuckle. He's obviously never plated up my food before. I had plastic plates and cups, and no utensils. Luca was smart like that.
He sat it on the bed, shutting the door behind him. I looked at him, sizing him up. Yeah, I'd be able to take him if push came to shove. I didn't know if I'd be able to take the other two, though. I'd cross that bridge when I got to it. I walked over to the bed, grabbing the glass of orange juice, then retreating to my spot in front of the dresser. I drank the orange juice in one go, feeling thirsty. He chuckled.
"You look prettier with your hair up," He mused, coming to stand in front of me.
He grabbed my hair, playing with the braids, then trailed his fingers down my bare skin to find the necklace Finn had given me. He fiddled with it, and I watched him. His eyes focused on my chest. It was inevitable. I did seem to have a chest that was on the bigger side.
My breathing became shallow as he started exploring my body with his hands, rubbing his hands up and down my sides. I grasped the glass and made sure my grip on it was tight.
"Such a pretty girl," He muttered, one hand trailing up my legs, brushing under the hem of my dress and continuing to move upwards as the other moved a thin strap of my dress off of my shoulder.
He leaned down to plant a kiss on my shoulder, and I nearly got sick as I felt something poking my thigh. He stood back up, moving to take off his belt, and I swung the glass as hard as I could onto his head, making him drop to the ground with a groan of pain, disorientated. I threw the glass at the door as hard as I could, effectively shattering it. I moved quickly, kneeling down and grabbing a shard of glass, but shrieking when the man grabbed my leg and pulled me towards him. I swung my arm backwards blindly, feeling the blade drive into him him somewhere.
He screamed in pain, then went quiet. I turned around, and he was holding a hand over his eye, which was pouring blood. I could see the glass sticking out.
I quickly checked his pockets, and found a revolver, and a car key. I grabbed my folded up clothes and boots, and ran through the bathroom into Luca's room. His door handle was normal. I strained my ears for any sound. None. I opened the door and went downstairs, kicking open the panel and found that there was no one else in the room.
I ran to the open window and climbed out of it with ease, not wanting to fuck around with locks. I couldn't see any cars, but I did spot a barn. I wouldn't have been able to see it from my room. I headed toward it, hoping that there was something to help me.
I pushed open the door, and found a car. I rolled the door right open, and tried the key in the ignition. It roared to life, making me smirk. I threw my clothes in through the window, and opened the door from the inside, hopping into the drivers seat. I pulled my coat around me, hiding the bloodstains on my dress, then reversed out of the barn, taking off. I sped down the dirt road, cheering when I hit a proper road. I followed it, and noticed some people in a field up ahead. I slowed down, making the woman look up.
Her kids started whispering to each other.
"Excuse me, miss, do you know the way to Birmingham? I lost my map a while back and I think I took a wrong turn," I rambled, "I'm meant to surprise my husband for his birthday tomorrow but now I'm scared I won't make it."
The woman gave a knowing grin, and raised her arm, "Thirty minutes in that direction, love. Straight shot."
I grinned, "Thank you!"
I pulled back onto the road and continued driving, feeling my heart slow down to its normal pace.
•••
You pulled up in front of the betting den, and got out of the car. You noticed cars belonging to Polly and Arthur sitting there. You pressed the horn repeatedly, waiting until someone came outside.
Tommy opened the door angrily, ready to shoot whoever decided to waste his time, and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw you.
"Merry Christmas," You remarked, throwing him the keys to the car and pushing past him to walk inside, taking off your coat.
"(Y/N)?" Polly asked in disbelief, you ignoring her as you walked to Finn's office.
He had gotten John's office, John's name still on the door. You knocked, and heard him yell 'fuck off'.
You swung open the door, revealing a dishevelled Finn. He looked like he hadn't slept in days. You shut the door behind you. You walked over to his desk, sitting yourself on top of it, noticing the white residue on the table top. He quickly moved to stand in front of you, inspecting you for any injuries.
"It's not my blood," You informed him, reaching up and wiping a finger on the outside of his nose, getting rid of the white powder still sat there.
"Can — Can I touch you to make sure you're real? I had dreams where you came back," Finn explained, lack of sleep and playing in the snow making the line between dream and reality near nonexistent.
You grabbed his hand, squeezing it. He let out a sigh, bringing your hand up to his mouth and placing a kiss on it. You were real. And you were back with him, and safe.
"Did anyone hurt you while you were there?" Finn asked, making you pale.
"No, but this morning one of them tried it on me. He didn't get anywhere, only groped me, but God Finn, it scared me," You admitted.
In the part of his mind that was still rational and not affected by lack of sleep and snow, he made a vow to track down the bastard and cut off his hands.

Luca dialled the betting den, letting it ring. I strained my ears for any other sounds outside, but I couldn't hear any. The window in the room had been covered with a curtain, and the two other doors in the room had been closed. I noticed about three deadbolts on each door. They had planned to kidnap someone.
"Hello?" I heard Tommy's voice come through the phone.
"Thomas Shelby. I think I have something of yours," Luca greeted, looking straight at me.
"Where's the girl?" Tommy asked coldly, and Matteo shoved me roughly into Luca, who put the receiver to my ear, "And I thought we agreed no fucking kids! She's a kid, Luca!"
"Speak." Luca commanded, staring down at me, "And tell him that you're only means to an end."
"I'm here, Tommy." I muttered into the phone, "And he told me to tell you I'm only means to an end."
"Have they hurt you?" He asked, sounding concerned.
"Only when they grabbed me. I came to not long ago." I informed him, then switched to Shelta, "I don't know where I am. Take care of you and yours and mine, forget about me, I'll be fine."
"Don't be fucking stupid, you and yours are mine now. I'll figure it out. I got you into this mess and I'll get you out." Tommy informed me, making me frown.
"Don't you dare try to find me, watch your back so you don't get hurt!" I snapped, then Luca hung up.
"You heard that boys? Thomas Shelby cares enough for her that he'll come for her. Now, all we have to do is wait until they get sloppy." Luca stated, making the men cheer.
I hoped Tommy's word wasn't his law. If he got hurt, it would bring the whole family down, and everything they did, everything they lost, would all be for naught.
I was livid. (Y/N), my wife, was on the phone and Tommy wouldn't even let me speak to her. I wanted to know if she was okay too.
"Let's go for a walk," Arthur commanded, clapping my shoulder and leading me out of Tommy's office roughly.
I followed, knowing that I would only cause trouble if I stayed. I slowed down as I heard the quick tinkling of a bell. Finn Junior. Arthur stopped too, until I felt Finn Junior rub up against my legs, no doubt leaving his grey fur all over my pant legs. Arthur started moving again, albeit slower this time so Finn Junior could keep up with us. He lead me to my house.
"Pack a suitcase, Finny boy," He instructed me.
I walked upstairs and did as he asked, grabbing my suitcase from under the bed and throwing some clothes into it.
"What about (Y/N)'s stuff?" I called back down as the living grey doormat came and jumped up on my bed and started cleaning himself.
"Leave it here, she can pack if she gets back!" Arthur yelled in reply.
"When she comes back." I muttered, heading to the bathroom to grab my toiletries.
I refused to think any other way. They wouldn't want to kill you, to them you shouldn't be an important part of my family, just a traveller girl that got married in.
I threw the rest of my stuff into my suitcase, the stuff that could fit into it anyway. I could always make two trips. I hoped.
I walked back out to Arthur, and he led me across the street to his house, and told me to get into his car. I complied, then helped Finn Junior up, sitting him on my suitcase. He curled up on it and purred as Arthur started the car, driving down the streets of Small Heath, taking us to Artillery Square.
He stopped the car and got out. I did the same, holding open the door until the overgrown lint ball got off of my suitcase and jumped out of the car, meowing at me as if thanking me for my services, then grabbed my suitcase and followed Arthur. I got up to the top of the stairs before realising that the tinkling sound had stopped. I turned around, and the cat was sat at the bottom of the stairs.
"Can't you walk yourself up?" I asked, and the cat stayed in his spot, making me roll my eyes.
If (Y/N) were here he'd be up these stairs in the blink of an eye.
Arthur yanked my suitcase out of my grip, holding it.
I looked down at Finn Junior, who was looking up at me expectantly. I sighed and walked down the stairs, crouching in front of him, then he gave me a slow blink. I slipped both my arms under his stomach, right next to his legs like you always did, making sure I had a good grip on him then slowly standing up.
"Hurry up!" Arthur commanded lightly, watching me carry the cat up the stairs rather awkwardly.
Awkward for me. The cat was probably enjoying every second of my slaving around for him.
"You try carrying this cat, it feels heavier than your Billy!" I snapped making him roll his eyes.
With the size of him, I was absolutely sure that he was heavier than Billy. Arthur lead me to the very apartment he was sat in at midday. I cursed that old slut for bringing him here. You'd be safe, at home with the cat, probably eating the biscuits I stashed away if she didn't.
"There you go, brother," He announced, throwing my poor suitcase onto the floor, "Home sweet home!"
"Place for you to spend time with your wife, bring your mates, play games, gamble, cards, and you keep an eye on our backyard," He informed me as I looked around the room, inspecting it, "It's Artillery Square. Place is full of Communists. The strikers. Having a Shelby — or two — will keep them in order."
It was at this moment in time that Finn Junior decided he wanted to get down, wiggling in my arms, then rolling over and trying to scratch my face. I leaned back, dodging his claws, hitting my head on the doorframe in the process, then crouched and let him down, and watched as he sauntered around the room, avoiding any broken glass on the floor.
"You little bastard! I should shoot you and turn you into a rug to put in front of the fire!" I bellowed, making Arthur chuckle.
"Light the fucking fire, take some of this shit off the walls. Curly will be over later with some poison for the rats. Unless your cat eats them." Arthur informed me, making Finn Junior hiss in protest.
Lazy bastard. I'd have to try to get you to stop spoiling him when you came back.
"Arthur," I began shakily, getting his attention.
"Huh?" He responded, turning back around to face me.
"This morning, I wouldn't have been able to pull that trigger. I know I wouldn't, they would have just walked past. I'm not John." I said, a lump forming in my throat, "I know I'm not."
Sometimes, like today, they treat me like John.
"All right," Arthur cut me off gently, coming over and placing a comforting hand on my shoulder, "You're my brother. I know you're not. I know. In the end, its God who pulls that fucking trigger anyway."
"We don't get to decide who lives, and who dies Finn," He reassured, placing his other hand on my other shoulder, "Not us. You just have to ... flip a switch; in your head."
He clapped me on the shoulder, then wordlessly walked out.
It would be hard to flip that switch. The older boys went to France and I didn't. Some days, like today, they throw me in the deep end, and others, like when Tommy decided that we were to marry, they treat me like a child, always deciding and doing things for me. It was unfair, and confusing. I'd have to ask you how you managed when you helped your father and brother.
I looked around, and found a broom in the closet next to the front door.
"We gonna clean this place up for your mum?" I asked the cat, who gave a sound of agreement.
As I swept, all I could focus on was how quiet it was. In the time you had been living with me, it was never quiet in the house. You were always making some sort of noise, whether it was complaining, arguing with me, singing, bouncing your leg and tapping your shoe on the floor, chewing your gum, or practicing your reading.
I missed that noise, and I was sure little Finn did too.

Bonnie and Aberama sat in the stables at Charlie's yard, waiting for Tommy Shelby. The horses were pacing around as if they were nervous about what was about to happen.
A person came storming through the door, carrying a lantern and placing it on the table. Tommy. He had a cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth, as usual. He reached into his coat, and pulled out some bills, putting them onto the table in front of Aberama.
"Uh, two." Aberama protested, "We killed two."
He looked back at Bonnie proudly.
Tommy pulled the cigarette from his lips, "You also shot a copper."
"Shot in the arm — with purpose," Aberama replied, not missing a beat, "There's a copper on the floor, the Stratford Constabulary will swarm all over it."
"The copperas alive. Got a description of the Italians. The Italians will be forced underground. We're gypsies. We're already underground," Aberama stated proudly, Bonnie taking a sip of his drink in silent agreement.
Tommy swallowed as he looked at the pair, placing the cigarette back into his mouth as he reached back into his coat.
"You yourself inflicted the no casualties this end so..." Aberama trailed off as Tommy threw the wad onto the table.
Aberama grabbed it, "You know, Mr. Shelby, maybe you've been pushing around pieces of paper too long."
"Luca Changretta got away. You let him get away." Tommy said simply, pointing at the pair, "When our paths cross I won't be so careless."
Aberama looked up from the table, smirking at Tommy, "And when will your paths cross?"
"Soon." Tommy announced, taking a long draw from his cigarette.
"You gave us too much money," Bonnie pointed out as Tommy exhaled the smoke, earning a cuff around the ears from his father.
"Your sister, the newest Shelby, was in that Rolls Royce. The Italians have her. I figured you could use some compensation." Tommy announced, placing the cigarette back into his mouth and grabbing the lantern, quickly exiting the stables, leaving Bonnie and Aberama in shock.

You came to, tied to a steel chair. You tried to get out of your restraints, to no avail. You looked around the room you were in. Concrete floor, concrete walls, one set of wooden stairs leading up to a door. No windows, but there was a rickety fan above you, along with a flickering light that hurt to look at.
The door opened, and through it came a man you had only seen in photos. Luca Changretta. He was carrying a wooden chair of his own. He silently walked down the creaky stairs, placed the chair onto the floor, dragging it over until it was in front of you, then he sat himself down in it gracefully. Another man came down and sat on the stairs. You didn’t know him.
Luca produced a cigarette from his pocket, and placed it into his mouth, then pulled a lighter out and lit the cigarette. You stared at the flame on the end as he took his first puff, watching the white paper turn to ash. He stared at you, as if trying to figure you out.
He removed the cigarette from his mouth, then tapped it against his knee, removing the ash from the end. He flipped it around in his fingers as he held it out to you, silently offering you a draw.
You shook your head, “I don’t smoke. I don’t like the smell of it.”
“Smart girl,” Luca replied, bringing the cigarette back to his mouth, “You’d be too young to smoke, wouldn’t you?”
“Sixteen,” You supplied, knowing full well that he would know how old you were.
“Yeah, I heard that through the grapevine,” Luca muttered, “And that you were married. Congratulations to you, and your husband, Mr. Finn Shelby.”
You narrowed your eyes, then spat on the man’s cheek. He sighed as he used his shirt sleeve to remove the substance from his face.
“I take it that your husband is a sore spot?” Luca asked, eyes flickering over your scowling face.
“I hate him and he hates me, our families married us for the benefit of everyone but me and Finn!” You snapped, making Luca give a short nod.
You knew what he was doing. You had done the same in the past. He was interrogating you to see if he could use you to get to the Shelby family. Unfortunately for him, they all hated you. Or so you thought.
“That’s rough. I apologise,” Luca said, not one sincere note in his tone.
“Is now the time we hold hands and confess our mutual feelings of hate for the Shelby family?” You snarked, making Luca chuckle.
“You’re exactly like your ma described,” Luca informed you, taking another draw from his cigarette, “She’s a real piece of work, you know? She gave you up for a few bottles of cocaine.”
Smart. She could sell them to support her for a little while. With how frugally she lived, you wouldn’t be surprised if it supported her for the rest of her life.
You snorted, “She sure does know how to make her only child feel loved and supported. Her and my father, he palmed me off to the Shelby family for fuck all. Then, the Shelby family doesn’t even like me. I got into a fight with Arthur Shelby’s wife, have you seen her, Linda, that blonde one who has the holier than thou expression on her face at all times? Yeah, her, so, none of them like me. They don’t like the fact that I upset their little Finny too.”
“Sounds like you’re trying to make it out that they don’t care for you,” Luca pointed out, making you frown.
“No one cares,” You replied quietly, “That’s why they push me to the side. If my own mother gave me up for a few bottles of cocaine then why would people that I’ve been thrown at love me? I’m just always in their way. My own husband doesn’t love me, and it’s going to be that way until one of us dies because we’re not allowed to divorce.”
Luca felt a pang of sadness in his chest as you spoke. It sounded as if you really believed those words.
“Your little act would fool me if your ma — and other informants — didn’t tail you and Finn around for the past week. I know they all like you. So, I’m keeping you here until either one of them dies or I get sick of seeing your face and kill you myself. Lucky for you, you’ve got a pretty face so you might be able to stay for a while,” Luca decided, leaning one arm back on his chair, then turning around to face the other man on the stairs, “Matteo, come help me move our guest upstairs so she can take a phone call. Oh, and (Y/N)? If you kill a man of mine, I’ll kill a member of the Shelby family to even it up, starting with your little husband.”
As the two men came over and untied you, then led you upstairs, you decided one thing; protect the Shelby family at any cost, even if that cost was your life.
One life lost to keep a family together wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Part 1
MASTERLIST
It had been a week since you and I had tied the knot, and you adopted Finn Junior. In that week, you had pulled me closer and pushed me away as you pleased. I was sick of it, and glad that I was going back to work today so I could get away from it. Tommy had called me this morning to tell me to be at Charlie's Yard in an hour.
Tommy had wanted you to come along as well, but I told him that you weren't well enough. Aberama had waxed poetic about your skills with guns, knives and even bow and arrows, and Tommy believed every word. I did too. This morning I had witnessed you stick a fly darting around to the kitchen ceiling with a knife because the buzzing annoyed you.
I didn't need you bothering me though, so you would be heading to Polly's after we went shopping. It was hard enough to try to get anyone older than me to take me seriously, but with you constantly belittling me it was an impossible task. I had no doubt that you would overshadow me too, and that was a big no-go.
I wrote the list out, and called out to you. You walked into the kitchen, Finn Junior hot on your heels, the bell on his little red collar tinkling. He had a little name tag, and our names on it in case he ever got lost, not that he ever would. He'd follow you everywhere, the Garrison, the betting den, Charlie's Yard, around the neighbourhood.
He'd never come near me voluntarily, though. He hates me, and I hate him. I nearly threw him out the window yesterday, because I turned my back on my cup of coffee for five seconds only to find him drinking it. You said that it was my fault for leaving the cup alone, but I'm positive that it's your fault for not training that fucking monster properly. He never ever tried that with your food either, it was always mine. I felt like you two had some sort of secret agreement to drive me mad.
"Let's go, you're reading the list." I instructed, throwing you the folded up piece of paper.
You blanched, but put it into your pocket. I rolled my eyes. I wouldn't have told you to do it if I didn't think you could. It was only four things, anyway. I put my cap on, and threw you your — our — brush, and you fixed your hair. It became our brush after you used mine to brush the knots out of Finn Jr's fur.
We started our walk down the street, to the market, you chewing your gum as usual. Once we entered, I grabbed a basket.
"What's the first thing on the list?" I asked, making you roll your eyes.
"You know damn well what's on the list, you wrote it!" You complained, but fished the list out of your pocket.
"Reading practice, won't hurt you." I replied as you came into step with me.
"I'm not sounding anything out," You warned, looking at the first word. "Erm, bread."
I nodded, and made a beeline for the bread aisle. I grabbed two loaves, knowing we were going to babysit Karl tomorrow and he was obsessed with jam sandwiches at the moment.
"Tea, coffee," You read out the next two items, and I put an arm around you and guided you to the aisle containing tea and coffee as you stared down at the page, trying to figure out the last word.
"What's the first sound you're sure of?" I questioned as I grabbed teabags and a jar of coffee.
"Bis," You answered as I grabbed your shoulder and started guiding you again.
"What do we eat a lot of, starting with 'bis', that we might need to top up on?" I prompted as we walked through the store.
"Oh, um, biscuits?" You replied unsurely, looking up at me, making me nod.
"Biscuits. Good girl," I praised as we reached the biscuits.
You blushed and looked away as I grabbed three packets. I lead us to the checkout and placed the items down. You made small talk with the cashier as she added up the cost of everything. I paid her, then we walked back to home. I could see Tommy, Arthur, and Isiah walking up the street. I looked down at my watch. Oh fuck, they left five minutes early.
"I've got to go with Tommy, I'll see you later, don't leave the Lane." I commanded, handing you the bag holding our groceries.
"Why?" You demanded, adjusting your grip on the brown paper bag.
"Family business," I brushed you off, adjusting my cap.
You stopped, and I turned to look at you.
"What?" I said impatiently.
"I'm part of the family now, so what business are you attending to?" You questioned, "Or are you not telling me because I'm a Gold?"
"It's complicated," I answered, not wanting to start up on the street.
"Fuck you, Shelby." You spat, walking past me and into our house, slamming the door behind you.
I ran to catch up to the other boys, patting Arthur on the back once I caught up.
READER'S POV
"Fuck Finn Shelby and the other Shelby's, and fuck the Peaky Blinders!" I swore as I walked to the kitchen.
"Is that any way to speak about your husband?" I heard a familiar voice speak.
I looked up, and Mum was sat at the kitchen table, stroking Finn Junior.
"If you try anything, I'll kill your cat," She said coolly.
I had no doubt that she would, so I sat across the table from her, tucking my hair behind my ears.
"What are you doing here?" I asked carefully, watching her as she scratched him behind the ears and made him purr.
Little grey traitor. I should've let Finn leave you at the yard.
"I'm doing a favour for some people." She replied, and I heard a car pull up outside, making my blood run cold in my veins.
"Leonardo, now!" Mum commanded, and I heard the floorboards creak behind me.
I quickly got up, and swung the chair that I was sitting on around, hearing it crack and break as it made contact with a man. I felt long nails scratch my scalp as Mum grabbed my hair from behind, yanking me back and making my back hit the table. She kept her hold on me, and no amount of thrashing could free me from her hold.
The man, Leonardo, stood back up and grabbed a wooden pole from the back of the chair. The last thing I felt before I fell unconscious was the pole cracking across my face and Mum letting me go, making my head connect with the kitchen bench, then everything went dark.
•••
FINN'S POV
I aimed at the group of men on the bridge, finger on the trigger, willing myself to pull it. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't do it. If you were here, you'd probably be telling me to grow a pair and pull the trigger before you did it yourself. Then, you'd probably grab the gun off of me and proceed to do it yourself.
"Too late to back out now, mate." One of the men said, making me breathe a sigh of relief as I lowered the rifle.
"It's a fucking decoy!" I heard Tommy yell out, making my eyes widen, "Bring the car around!"
I started running to the apartment that Arthur was in, unloading my rifle and pocketing the bullets.
"Arthur!" I called out as I ran along the pathway in front of the apartments, and opened the door to the apartment that held my eldest brother.
"Arthur, they're not here for you. It must be Michael." I said, panting, eyes flickering from him to the woman.
He took a breath in, then grabbed the tablecloth, shoving it off of the table.
"You fucking bitch!" He roared as everything clattered on the floor.
"You set me up, eh?" He said, pulling out his gun, "you set me up!"
He flipped the table, then stepped closer and grabbed the woman by the shoulders, "I know!"
"Arthur, you need to get to the hospital now." I stated, walking over and grabbing his shoulder.
"Fuck off!" He grunted, tearing himself from my grip, making me stumble.
I walked back over to the door. He looked back at the woman and growled. She was damn near crying.
"If your faith is real," She began shakily, "I've got all the kids!"
Arthur put a hand on her face and pushed her away, heading to the door, but not before kicking a teapot and shattering it, making her gasp.
"If you're here in one hour, I swear to God — I will cover you in tar and fucking feathers." Arthur threatened, pointing at her, then spinning around and pushing past me.
"Come on, Finn, let's go," He commanded, and as we walked away I could hear the woman start to sob.
We piled into Tommy's car, and Tommy began speeding through the streets. The car was silent, the air heavy. When we arrived I nearly tripped as I rushed out of the car, Arthur helping me to find my feet.
Tommy lead us to Michael's room, my heart pounding so hard that I thought it was going to come right out of my chest. Tommy stopped in the corridor just outside of Michael's room, then burst in, followed by Arthur, then me, Isiah and Johnny waiting in the car.
Michael was sitting up peacefully reading the paper.
"What's wrong?" He asked, looking at us in confusion as he lowered the paper.
"The Italians — They had a decoy, they was meant to attack Arthur but they didn't," Tommy explained, making Michael's eyes widen.
I had a funny feeling in my stomach. I didn't like this. I spotted the cup of tea and biscuits next to Michael and my mouth went dry.
"Tommy," I began nervously, "What if they went to Watery Lane; after the girls?"
I watched as all the colour drained from Tommy's face, and he got up from the chair he was sitting on and told us to get our asses back into the car. I didn't waste any time running through the halls. Isiah and Johnny were leaning against the car sharing a smoke. Johnny quickly put it out when he saw us, and hopped into the back, followed by Isiah.
I clambered into the back after passing Isiah the shotgun, Arthur putting the seat up and hopping in, and Tommy getting into the drivers seat, starting the car and speeding to Watery Lane.
I found myself twisting my wedding band around my finger, a habit I picked up when I was nervous. Tommy came to a screeching stop in front of Polly's, and I couldn't get out of the car quick enough, running down the street to our house, and opening the door.
"(Y/N)!" I called out, scanning the room.
Finn Junior was laid on the coffee table, and he got up and strolled over to me, rubbing against my legs, making my stomach drop. Something was definitely wrong.
I ran upstairs, and you weren't there. I stumbled back down the stairs, and into the kitchen. A chair had been broken, and there was blood on the edge of the kitchen bench.
"Fuck!" I hissed, looking around the room. I spotted an envelope on the kitchen table.
I snatched it up, and ran back out to the street.
"Where's your wife?" Tommy asked, looking me up and down.
"She's gone," I snapped, handing him the envelope I found.
He tore it open.
"What does it say?" Polly asked, coming to stand with us.
"That Luca Changretta is keeping her until he kills one of us, and if he can't kill one of us, he'll kill her." Tommy said, his face unreadable.
I suddenly felt nauseous, and doubled over, my breakfast making a reappearance on the cobbled street. Arthur started rubbing my back. This was unfair, you were innocent. You didn't have anything to do with this.
As I heaved for air, I came up with one thought; if I had taken you with me this morning, you would be fine. This was all my fault.

We arrived at the inn. Finn shut the car off, and took a deep breath.
"Do we have to stay for long?" I inquired, looking at him.
"If Tommy wants us to," Finn replied, making me scowl, "And we've got wedding photos before we eat, so you might want to wipe that ugly look off of your face."
"Shut up before I take off one of my garters and strangle you with it," I threatened, using the rear view mirror to make sure I looked halfway decent.
"How sadistic," Finn commented, making me roll my eyes and get out of the car.
"You'd love every minute of it," I snarked, then hissed at the feel of the street on my bare feet.
I should've went home and grabbed my boots. You wouldn't have even seen them due to my gown.
Finn got out, and we walked into the inn together. He put a hand on the small of my back as a staff member came over and guided us to the area that Tommy had rented out for the reception. Half of the room had tables that were lined with all sorts of food, and circular tables for us to sit at whilst eating. The other half of the room was cleared, most likely being our dance floor. The staff member lead us to a little room past that, where a camera and backdrop was set up.
"Linda's gonna take the photos, then Jeremiah's gonna help us sign the paperwork to make it official," Finn informed me, then the devil herself entered the room.
"Oh, don't you two look lovely," She said in what sounded like a mocking tone.
"Linda, shut the fuck up and don't antagonise my wife." Finn told her abruptly, which made me start sniggering then full on cackling.
She looked at us like Finn had just pulled out his revolver and shot her with it. She huffed, then stomped off, her heels muffled by the carpet floor.
"Right, where's the happy couple?" I heard a voice call out from behind us, making us turn around.
Arthur strutted over, and clapped Finn on the back, and nodded at me.
"Groomsmen first!" Ezzie called out, and Finn moved to go stand in front of the backdrop.
"Finn," I grabbed his arm.
He turned to me, and I quickly looked over him, making sure he was decent.
His tie was askew, so I adjusted it.
"There, now you're okay," I said, making him nod and walk off.
•••
I hated this. You and I had to sit at a table all by ourselves whilst we ate. I checked my pocket watch. Exactly half an hour ago we signed the papers to make it official. You were now (Y/N) Shelby. You argued with Tommy for about ten minutes over having to change your name, your brother had to come in and settle you down.
"Can't you eat something instead of pushing it around on your plate?" I scolded you, sick of watching you play around, "My people worked hard to get this food ready."
Johnny Dogs, Curly, and Uncle Charlie had led a team of people to cook for us. I had already finished my food, and was now waiting for you to eat something so you wouldn't be hungry all night.
You rolled your eyes, "I'm not hungry."
"Eat at least the pasta so you have some lining on your stomach for later on," I reasoned, being very familiar with the horrible feeling of drinking on an empty stomach.
You stabbed your fork into your pasta angrily, and ate it. I moved my chair closer to yours, grabbing my own knife and fork to cut up your pork, knowing the pasta alone wouldn't be enough to fill you up.
"I talked to Tommy when we were getting photos done, after we make our rounds we have to stay for at least half an hour, after that we can go home. Everyone will be too plastered to notice." I notified you, making you nod.
People were already up and milling about, drinking. Tommy got the band to start playing music about five minutes ago. You were taking too long for us to walk around to peoples' tables. You finished the pasta, and put your fork down.
"Now some meat." I urged, making you scowl.
"Uncle Charlie went through the trouble of slaughtering a pig just for this, now give it a rest and finish the meat so we can hurry up and start doing our rounds," I said through gritted teeth.
You didn't move to pick up your fork, so I stabbed my own into the pork and manoeuvred it to your mouth, holding my other hand under the food in case the gravy dripped.
"Tommy and Aberama are watching us, come on," I grunted, making you lean forward and bite the pork.
"Now was that so hard?" I asked, stabbing another piece of meat and eating it myself.
"I'll eat at home, can't we just do our rounds now?" You pleaded.
I let out a deep breath through my nose, but got out of my chair, and pulled out yours.
"Let's go thank Charlie and the boys for cooking before we make any rounds." I said as you stood up and took my arm.
I spotted the men we were looking for in a corner. I led you over to them, grabbing a flute of champagne on the way. Charlie spotted us first, and said something which made Curly and Johnny Dogs spin around.
"Here he is; the man, the myth, the legend." Johnny greeted with a grin, then looked at you and frowned.
"Behave!" Charlie hissed as Curly greeted us.
I introduced you to the three men, and you made polite conversation with Charlie and Curly, Johnny flat out ignoring you.
I'd have to speak to Tommy about it.
"We've got to go make our rounds and see everyone else, thank you for cooking," I said as I started leading you away from the trio.
You and I were already having a shit day, you definitely didn't need Johnny Dogs being a cunt on top of it all.
"I'm finding Ezzie and heading to the bathroom," You muttered, handing me your flute of champagne and walking off.
I headed over to Arthur, and listened mindlessly to the conversation between him, Aunt Polly, and Ada, sipping my drink every now and again.
After a bit, Tommy came over.
"Finn, where's your wife?" He asked shortly, making me shrug.
"She's with her sister," I answered, and Tommy shook his head impatiently.
"Look over there, boy." Tommy instructed, gesturing in a certain direction.
I complied, and your sister was there, but you were nowhere to be seen.
I scanned the room, "Maybe she's in the bathroom still."
"Go find her," Tommy commanded, and I placed my now empty champagne flute and your still full one on the table next to us.
"Aunt Poll, can you come for a walk?" I asked, making her nod and give her alcohol to Ada.
I figured that if you were crying Polly could comfort you. I wasn't the best with crying people.
"I'll come too," Arthur announced, downing the rest of his drink.
We walked hurriedly to the nearest bathroom. Through the closed door, we could hear a woman yelling at someone. I furrowed my brows and put my ear up to the door, Polly doing the same. Arthur pushed me down so he had room to put his ear to the door.
"I don't know why they brought you here, because now you're tangled up in their fucking business! You're untrustworthy and you're too angry to do anything right!" The woman shouted, then a sharp thwack sounded through the air, indicating that someone had been slapped.
"And you've got yourself mixed up with a man! How stupid can you be, you're going to end up fucking pregnant at sixteen. I pity the poor chap because you're ugly and unloveable, and that's why I never ever told anyone new that you were my daughter." The woman hissed.
"Poor bird," Polly murmured as I began to stand back up.
The next thing we heard was a barely audible 'I'm sorry mummy', and I felt my heart drop.
"Oh God, that's my bird," I panicked, trying the door handle but finding it locked.
"Move, boy," Polly snapped, pulling a revolver from her handbag and shooting handle off of the door.
I pushed the door open, and you were knelt on the floor, your face in your hands, blood seeping through your fingers. Your shoulders were shuddering as you sobbed and spoke in unintelligible Shelta.
"Marian Jones," Polly hissed, as if the very words tasted sour on her tongue, "How dare you show your face here again."
You looked up, and I could see that one cheek was redder than the other, and that your lip was busted. Blood was pouring from your nose. You didn't waste any time getting up from the floor and running to me. You body collided with mine, and I let out an 'oof' as I put my arms around you.
"Arty, go get Tommy and Aberama," I said, and I heard Arthur turn on his heel and start jogging.
You were holding onto me for dear life. I could feel your tears wetting my shirt.
"You've got some fucking nerve coming here and starting on my wife," I seethed, "You're lucky that I don't take your eyes out here and now."
Marian scoffed, rolling her eyes. She looked drunk.
"If it were up to me, I'd take out your tongue and your eyes so you could never have the honour of speaking or seeing to this poor girl ever again." Polly spat as Aberama, Bonnie, and Tommy approached us.
"Your lovely ex flame came to visit," Polly commented dryly as I rubbed your back.
"I'll take her home," I announced, making Bonnie nod as Aberama walked in and grabbed Marian roughly.
I took off my suit coat and wrapped it around you, leading you to my car. I put you into the passengers seat, then slid over the hood with ease and hopped into the drivers seat, starting the car and beginning the short drive back to Watery Lane. You were reduced to sniffles.
•••
You and I had been laying in your bed for a bit, still in our wedding clothes. You were curled up at my side, head on my shoulder. Every time I tried to move you’d whine. I hated you clinging to me like this. You weren’t supposed to be like this, ever. You were meant to be fire and passion and witty remarks that made me wish I had come up with them. Not the pitiful girl that laid beside me now, eating her cold pancakes.
You shifted your head, and I could feel a something stiff. A bobby pin.
“Want me to undo your hair?” I asked softly, making you nod.
“I trust you,” You mumbled.
I ignored the odd remark and started carefully undoing your hair, placing the flowers and pins on the bedside table.
“Thank you, for upholding the truce — Linda.” You explained after I gave you an odd look.
I hummed in reply, but then realised; we had both stirred each other up today.
“We both broke the truce, we stirred each other up today.” I pointed out, making your eyebrows shoot up.
“Does that mean we both have to do something that the other comes up with?” You queried.
I shrugged, “Yeah, them’s the rules.”
You nodded, hard in thought. I already knew what I wanted you to do.
“I want you to apologise to Arthur for the way you kicked that jug at the Garrison.” I informed you, and you nodded.
No frown, no scowl, no protesting and swearing at me, just nodding. It made me feel horrible.
“You’re getting me a cat. I won’t be able to make this place my home without an animal,” You said, “And we’re adopting. I won’t buy any animal.”
I didn’t have the heart to protest, so I nodded. I’d suck it up for a bit. I didn’t like cats, but if it annoyed me too much we could always give it to someone else or it could ‘run away’.
“Feeling up for a trip to Charlie’s Yard?” I asked, knowing there was a ratty grey cat there that was pretty tame.
You nodded, stumbling out of bed and over to your wardrobe. I walked over to you, and unzipped your dress. You quickly stepped out of it and took off your slip, revealing bright blue lingerie, and a belly button piercing. I noticed that it was the same colour as your eyes. You looked stunning, and effortlessly so. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t want to see you like this again.
“Take a picture, it’ll last longer,” You huffed as you rummaged around, finding a pair of pants and a shirt, “And stop staring at my arse.”
I quickly looked out the window. I glanced back at you, and felt disappointed now that you were fully clothed. You pulled on some socks and your boots, not bothering to tie the laces, then we went downstairs. You grabbed some cooked chicken from our lunch yesterday, then wrapped it in a napkin, and off we went, getting into my car and driving us to Charlie’s Yard.
We got out and I led you to the building the cat liked hanging around. It was there, laying in the sun in front of the door.
“Oh, it’s a Maine Coon!” You squealed excitedly as you crouched and offered it some of the chicken.
It came right up to you, and ate the chicken out of your hand.
“It looks big enough to eat us,” I commented as you started stroking it.
“It — He’s gorgeous,” You defended the cat, and picked him up with ease.
He started purring, and didn’t try to get out of your arms at all. I walked up to the pair of you and tried to pet the cat, but he hissed and tried to bite me. Fucking bastard. I’ll make sure to babysit Charles sometime soon so he can terrorise the cat.
“We’re definitely taking this one home.” You announced, and started walking back to the car.
“I’m not going to take care of it, it’s your pet!” I called out as I followed you.
“Fine by me!” You replied, putting the cat into the backseat of the car.
“What are you going to name it?” I asked as I got into the car and started it, curious.
You looked over at the cat as I started driving.
“Hmm, Finn Junior.” You decided, making me scoff.
“That’s a stupid idea,” I told you, making you scowl.
“How?” You demanded, glaring at me.
“Well, if we ever have a kid and it’s a boy, we should name it Finn Junior, and it will be confusing if we also have a cat named Finn Junior.” I explained, making you laugh.
“You think I’d ever let you fuck me? Oh, you’re a funny one,” You sighed, and the cat meowed, as if agreeing, “Finn Junior is a stupid name for a kid, if I ever named a kid after you, it would be your name as a middle name, or a variant of your name for the first name — like Finneas.”
I scrunched my brows together in confusion, but nodded, letting you have it. Why is it that girls always seem to have a list of baby names picked out? Are they born with the list?
“Anyway, he likes Finn Junior, don’t you little Finn?” You asked, and the cat purred.
“You’re only naming him after me to spite me,” I complained as we reached home.
“Obviously,” You agreed, getting out and grabbing the cat out from the back, “If you didn’t say anything about how stupid the name was I would’ve named him something like Thunder, or Binky, or Ted. But, you objected, so now he’s your namesake. He even looks like you, honestly.”
I glanced at the cat’s squashed up face.
“He looks like he ran face first into a wall.” I said dryly, and you gasped, scooping him up and telling him to ignore the mean, ugly man driving the car.
You stepped away from the car, shutting the door. I made sure you were inside before glancing at the rear view mirror. I absolutely did not look like that bastard.
I’m sure you were only put on God’s green Earth to irritate me.

MASTERLIST
The ride to my family's camp was silent, and the air inside the car was heavy. I had Polly stop twice so I could get out because I felt nauseous enough that I was sure I was going to vomit. Thankfully, I didn't.
We arrived at my family's camp, and Polly shut off the car. We were the first of the wedding party to arrive, everyone else coming in other cars. Finn and Jeremiah were already here, and if everything was going to plan he would be walking down the aisle now, and everyone would be in the tent, waiting for the arrival of the bridal and groom party, then, finally, me. I could see the tent just a walk away, nice looking stones from the stream laid out to mark the aisle.
"Are you ready to do this?" Polly asked, looking at me in the rear view mirror.
"I don't have a choice," I snapped, feeling a lump form in my throat.
I closed my eyes took a deep breath to calm me down.
"I can object because you're sixteen; underage. Tommy won't do anything if I object." Polly stated, making me open my right eye to look at her.
I could be free of this. I could say yes and forget it all. I could choose who I wanted to marry, if I ever wanted to marry.
But, getting Polly to object would damage both the reputations of my family, and hers. I'd probably get kicked out of my family, and my family would go to war with the Shelbys. It wasn't worth it. Not now, not ever.
"I'll be fine," I said in what I hoped was a reassuring tone, "Finn and I, we'll — we'll figure something out."
Polly leaned over and grabbed both my hands, squeezing them tightly.
"You're such a brave girl," She declared, "And don't let anyone ever, ever tell you any different. And if they do, take their eyes, because very soon you're going to be a Shelby, and becoming a Shelby means that you're going to become a Peaky fuckin' Blinder."
I chuckled at her, then she let my hands go, and we exited the car. I grabbed my bridal bouquet from the seat, then shut the door.
Ezzie rounded everyone up with the help of Isiah. I leaned back against the car and watched, feeling sick to my stomach. Usually this would be a sight of joy, and I'd happily play a part in the bridal party, but now that it was my own, the bridal party that was meant to give me the most joy whilst I was watching them, I just felt misery. It was unfair and unjust to be put in this position.
Tommy walked over to me, Dad hot on his heels. He stood on my left, leaning against the car, and Dad took the spot on my right.
"You're having a honeymoon after your wedding. You and Finn will have no work for the next seven days." Tommy stated.
I watched him as he pulled his cigarette case from his pocket, opening it, and put one in his mouth. Unbelievable.
"Don't you dare light that fucking smoke next to me, I'm not walking down the aisle smelling like smoke!" I hissed, snatching it out of his mouth, which made his eyebrows shoot up.
"(Y/N)!" Dad warned as Tommy plucked the smoke out of my hands and put it back into the case, and returned it to his pocket.
"She's alright," Tommy said, nodding at Dad, "Did Polly talk to you?"
I looked up at him, his expression unreadable and his steely blue gaze burning a hole through me.
"I did — I said no," I sniffed, making Tommy nod with approval.
"And whatever you do, don't fucking bite my brother when you kiss him," Tommy warned, making me blanch.
I had completely forgotten that I had to kiss Finn. Ezzie called out to Tommy, and he wordlessly walked off, leaving me and Dad alone.
"I hate you," I spat quietly, looking at the ground to avoid looking at the man next to me.
"No you don't," He replied, pulling me into a side hug.
"I hate that you're right," I sniffled, hugging him tightly.
I loved my Dad too much to be mad at him for this. He held me for a bit, then pulled away.
"It's time," He informed me, making my mouth go dry and my heart drop.
He linked his arm with mine, and we began the walk to the tent. Saoirse walked in, spreading the flower petals around. Dad waited five seconds, then lead me in. I looked straight ahead, not bothering about the guests. I had no idea why anyone would want to come and watch this forced union anyway. Finn was the first one who caught my eye, he looked paler than usual.
I tried to focus on the feeling of the flower petals underneath my bare feet, and not the fact that I was mere minutes away from being forced into a loveless marriage.
Too soon, we were right in front of Finn, and Dad shook Finn's hand as I handed Ezzie my bouquet, then placed my hands into Finn's. I looked at him, and he gave me a reassuring smile as Jeremiah started talking. I squeezed his hands as a return gesture.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join (Y/N) Gold and Finn Shelby in holy matrimony." Jeremiah began, "This contract is not to be entered into lightly, but thoughtfully and seriously, and with a deep realisation of its obligations and responsibilities. With that being said, the groom and bride shall partake in the exchanging of vows."
Jeremiah looked at Finn, "Finn Shelby, do you promise to cherish (Y/N) always, to honour and sustain her, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, and to be true to her in all things until death alone shall part you?"
"I do," Finn stated, looking me in the eyes.
I never realised just how blue his eyes were. They looked like the open ocean.
Jeremiah then looked at me, "(Y/N) Gold, do you promise to cherish Finn always, to honour and sustain him, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, and to be true to him in all things until death alone shall part you?"
"I do," I stated, my voice faltering.
Finn started rubbing the back of my hands with his thumbs.
"Finn and (Y/N) will now exchange rings as a symbol of love and commitment to each other. Rings are made out of precious metals, but they are also made precious by you wearing them. Your wedding rings are special; they enhance who you are. They mark the beginning of your long journey together. It is the seal of the vows you have just taken to support each other without end," Jeremiah announced, and Isiah handed him the pillow with the rings on it, "Finn, please place the ring on (Y/N)'s left hand and repeat after me."
I watched Finn grab the ring, and my eyes went wide.
You could probably buy Birmingham twice with a stone that size. He gently slipped it onto my ring finger, the cold metal feeling foreign and heavy.
"As a sign of my love," Jeremiah began.
"As a sign of my love," Finn repeated.
"That I have chosen you,"
"That I have chosen you,"
"Above all else"
"Above all else"
"With this ring, I thee wed."
"With this ring, I thee wed." Finn concluded.
"And (Y/N), please place the ring on Finn's left hand and repeat after me."
I plucked the plain gold band from the cushion, and noticed that it had an inscription on the inside — FINN + (Y/N), forever and always
In any other situation, it would be a wonderful promise of love, but right now it sounded like a death sentence.
"As a sign of my love," Jeremiah said once I placed the band on Finn's finger.
"As a sign of my love," I echoed.
"That I have chosen you,"
"That I have chosen you,"
"Above all else"
"Above all else"
"With this ring, I thee wed."
"With this ring, I thee wed." I finished.
"And now by the power vested in me, it is my honour and delight to declare you married. Go forth and live each day to the fullest. You may seal this declaration with a kiss." Jeremiah declared, making me gulp.
Finn cupped his hands around my face, gently rubbing a thumb across my cheek, and I placed mine on his chest, then leaned up onto the tips of my toes to reach his lips. He leaned down, and the space between our lips disappeared.
I heard everyone cheer, some people whistle, one kid gag, but all I could focus on was that the kiss felt wrong. There was no spark, no love shared. I quickly pulled away,
"It is with great honour that I present the newlyweds, Finn and (Y/N)!" Jeremiah spoke, "Please, join us all at the Birmingham Inn for lunch and further celebration."
Finn held my hand tightly as we walked back down the aisle, and exited the tent. We headed to his car. He opened the door for me, and I hopped in. He shut the door behind me, and walked around to the driver's seat, getting in and starting the car. He was gripping the steering wheel tight enough that his knuckles were white.
"It's done," I broke the silence, looking down at my ring, and the way it glinted in the light.
"That it is, and there's nothing we can do about it." Finn said solemnly as he began the drive back to town, "Do you want to go home to change or stay in your dress?"
"The dress is okay for me to move in, I'll be fine," I replied, looking out the window at the scenery.
"Can — Can you stay with me during the reception?" Finn asked, sounding painfully vulnerable.
"Of course," I agreed, not even having to think of it.
I didn't want to be married to him, but to make him go through this alone was low, even by my standards.

CONTRARY - FINN SHELBY X READER; PART 7
Part 1
(A/N: I haven't been to a wedding in yonks so this and the next chapter is me really just making stuff up as I go lmao)
Today was the anticipated day. The union between (Y/N) Gold and Finn Shelby. You had woken up a nervous wreck.
You hadn't even been able to eat anything, not even biscuits with your tea, something that made Esmeralda and Saoirse concerned — you had always had an ungodly amount of biscuits, at least four, whenever you had a cup of tea. Once, Esmeralda was sure she counted twelve on your saucer.
It was now eight in the morning, and your sisters were begging you to eat at least one mouthful of the feast Polly had cooked for you and your bridal party. You had all slept at your residence, while Finn and his groomsmen were getting ready at Tommy's.
You picked up a pancake, and took a small bite — it was fluffy and soft. You chewed it, and mindlessly began drumming your fingers on the tabletop.
"So, I'm walking down the aisle with Arthur, Tommy with Lizzie, Bonnie with Ada, and Isiah with Ezzie." Polly reminded the girls at the table, who all nodded.
"And I get to throw the flower petals!" Saoirse cheered, making Polly chuckle.
"Yes you do, my dear." Polly said with a smile towards the small girl, who was now playing with a doll.
"(Y/N), go shower, we leave in three hours!" Ezzie hissed, making you hurry on eating your pancake.
"And Finn will be here in two and a half to drop off your something new," Ada pointed out, making you curious.
Once you were done your pancake, you walked to the bathroom, and had a quick shower, washing your hair and body with some nice smelling shampoo, conditioner and body wash set Lizzie had gifted you. You trusted her, she seemed to know what the men liked. You also quickly went over your legs and underarms with a razor, and brushed your teeth. You weren't that cruel to make Finn kiss you with morning breath.
You hopped out of the shower, dried yourself and wrapped a towel around your body, then wrapped your hair up in another towel, this one being a microfiber one to help it dry quicker. You walked to your room, where Ezzie was sitting on the bed.
"You're putting on that set," Ezzie said with a stern look on her face.
You knew that look. That look was the one she gave when she meant something was final. The first and last time you disobeyed that look, you ended up with a rather nasty bruise in the shape of her paddle brush. You didn't want another, so you begrudgingly put on the set of lingerie you had bought yesterday.
"It's not like he's going to see it," You grumbled, trying — and failing — to clip up your bra behind you.
Ezzie came over and wordlessly helped you, then handed you a bottle of lotion. It looked as if it came from the same set as the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, and as you opened the bottle and the smell hit your nose, your thoughts were confirmed.
You quickly put some lotion on, then put on your slip. You looked up at the clock.
Two hours left. You felt the pit in your stomach get deeper. What would happen after you and Finn officially got married? Would you continue on acting civil all your lives, never to love each other but being bound to each other for all eternity? Or would Tommy be kind enough to let you get with different people, and the marriage only be for show? It was all a big mess of confusion, and you hated it.
•••
"Your hair is going up today," Ezzie informed you casually, not bothering to look at you, making your heart stop.
"I can't do braids or anything," You said quietly, making Ezzie look at you.
"That's why I'll be doing it," She reassured, giving you a small smile, "It's only me."
You took a deep breath, but nodded. She was right. It was Ezzie. She wasn't going to hurt you.
"Come sit," She instructed, and you did so.
You handed her your hairbrush, and she started detangling your long, (H/C) locks, starting at the ends then moving up to the roots. Once your hair was knot free, she parted your hair in the usual spot.
In the reflection, you spotted Polly and your Dad come to stand in the doorway of your bedroom. The first thing Polly noticed as your sister started braiding your hair was how tightly you were gripping the legs of the vanity. Your knuckles were white. She noticed that you were sitting stiff as a board, as if getting ready to jump out of your chair at a moments' notice.
"Hi," You greeted your Dad softly, still unsure of whether you wanted to interact with him or not.
"Hello, Bee," Aberama replied, staying in the doorway, giving you a wide berth for your own peace of mind.
You grinned at the nickname. Your Dad had nicknamed all of you kids after something that was the colour of your favourite colour — you were Bee, Esmeralda was Turtle, Bonnie was Tiger, and Saoirse hadn't settled on a colour yet.
"You'd think her sister was about to murder her," Polly whispered to your Dad, who pursed his lips.
He sniffed and cleared his throat, "Marian, she — she would never let (Y/N) put her hair up, so it would get really knotted, I'm talking nearly matted, Polly — and then she would make (Y/N) sit as she would pull the brush through her hair and (Y/N)'s body would have no chance but to follow the brush and (Y/N) would be in so much pain and that slut would enjoy every minute of what she'd put my Bee through."
Polly put a hand to her mouth, horrified that someone could do that to their baby. She could never, ever imagine doing that to her Michael, or her Anna.
Aberama and Polly watched as Esmeralda carefully braided your hair into a crown, leaving wisps out to frame your face, then delicately put wildflowers into the braid.
Polly looked at the clock. One hour left. She quickly got the dress from your wardrobe, and Ezzie ushered you out of your seat, and Ezzie helped you into your dress. You weren't wearing shoes — high heels and yourself weren't the best of friends. You weren't even acquaintances.
•••
You were now pacing in your bedroom, waiting for Finn to come give you your something new. The pit in your stomach had gotten worse, and it was taking everything in you to not spit out your gum and start chewing your nails.
A knock sounded on your door. You stopped your pacing and spun around, facing the door. You took a deep, steadying breath.
"Come in," You called, your voice shaky.
The door opened, and there stood Finn Shelby.
You gasped softly. He walked in, shutting the door behind him. He looked a vision, standing there in his suit. You'd be lying if you said that you didn't find him attractive right now. You wouldn't mind someone painting a portrait of this moment in time so you could always look back at it, just to see this version of Finn again.
You realised you were staring, and quickly looked away.
Finn, however, was too busy admiring you to notice. This was the first time he had seen you with your hair up. You looked like some kind of angel, but not the ones he read about in the Bible with Jeremiah. The pretty kind. To him, in this moment, you looked divine.
"Hi, Finn," You said shyly, feeling awkward under his gaze.
"Hi, (Y/N)," Finn greeted, sounding breathless, "You look — amazing, honest."
"You don't look too bad yourself," You teased as you looked back at him.
He grinned, then remembered what he came for. He fished a small box out of his pocket.
"These are our something new." He explained as you walked closer to him.
He opened the box, revealing two silver pendants, each the shape of half a heart.
"They're beautiful," You stated, looking up at Finn.
He felt pleased that you liked it. He had out a lot of thought into it, and there wasn't really much good stuff a person could get in five days.
He gently grabbed the one with his initials out and handed it to you, "Yours. We wear each other's initials."
"Can you put it on me?" You asked, scared the clasp would get caught in your hair and you would ruin your sister's handiwork.
Finn nodded, swapping you the box for your necklace. He undid the clasp, and put it around your neck, then did it back up again. He saw your spine peeking out of the top of your dress, and couldn't resist softly dragging the tip of his index finger up it, which made you gasp and shiver.
"Sorry," He mumbled, not feeling sorry at all.
Your skin was soft. He wanted to feel it again someday. And, when he was this close, he could smell your perfume. He liked the smell of it. He’d have to buy you more.
"Would you like me to put yours on you?" You questioned, turning back around.
"Yeah, please," Finn replied, handing you the box.
You went and stood behind him, necklace in hand.
"Can you bend your knees a little?" You asked the brown haired boy — he was a little bit taller than you.
Finn did as you asked, and you put the necklace on him. He spotted your bridal bouquet on the vanity, Aberama's tie wrapped around it, and chuckled.
"What?" You demanded, peeking around him to look in the same direction.
"You have silver bells in your bouquet — Mistress Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells and cockle shells and pretty pairs all in a row," Finn recited, "You and Mary, you've both got silver bells and pretty maids both in a row and you're both contrary."
"I'm not contrary!" You snapped, frowning as Finn turned to face you, "I've got ... layers."
He nodded sagely, "Like an onion."
You gave him a funny look, "What the fuck are you comparing me to an onion for?"
"I don't know, the boys had fried ones for breakfast!" Finn defended, putting his hands up.
"Did you have any? I don't care that it's a wedding, I won't become lip locked with you if you've eaten onions this morning!" You threatened, jabbing a finger to his chest.
"I haven't!" Finn said truthfully, but you narrowed your eyes at him.
"Let me smell your breath," You commanded, and he complied, breathing heavily your face.
"You're lucky," You warned after the minty breath entered your nose.
Finn chuckled, which made you realise how ridiculous you were being. You started giggling along with him, then the door was knocked upon.
"Finn's got to go!" Ada said through the door.
You looked at the door, then back at Finn.
"See you there," You said quietly, the magic of the previous moment gone as reality set back in.
Finn nodded, "See you there.”
He turned to walk out of the bedroom, and you had the urge to grab his hand to make him stop, but you ignored it. He exited the room, leaving you in silence once more.

MASTERLIST
(A/N: I have absolutely no idea what wedding dress shopping is like lmao bear with me here pls)
I paced back and forth, waiting for Polly and the rest of the girls to arrive.
"Keep on going and you'll tear a hole in the carpet." Finn said, lighting up a cigarette.
"Shut up! I'm going shopping for a dress everyone will see me in, it's stressful!" I snapped, turning around to face him.
He shrugged, "I'm going shopping for a suit today and I'm not walking a quarter mile."
I rolled my eyes as I unwrapped a piece of gum, "The suits are all the same, no one ever looks at suits, it's the bride's dress they all look at."
Finn hummed in agreement, and placed his hands on his stomach as he bounced his leg.
"I've been thinking," He began as I threw the gum into my mouth, "We agreed to be civil, so we called a truce but we don't have terms for the truce. We should make some."
"How smart, do you want a medal?" I snarked, sitting on the coffee table in front of him, crossing one leg over the other, trying to be mindful of the fact I had a dress on for once.
"I'm just saying, it would make stuff a lot easier if we knew what to expect from each other," Finn pointed out.
"That does make sense," I admitted, tucking my hair behind my ears and smoothing it down.
Finn produced a comb from his inner coat pocket and offered it to me. I took it wordlessly, and used it to tame my hair somewhat.
"Maybe you should tie it up?" Finn offered, making me scowl.
"No!" I snapped loudly, making him jump.
"I wasn't gonna fight you over it," Finn grumbled, making me throw the comb at him.
"So, say we do call an official truce, what happens if one of us breaks it?" I asked curiously, leaning forward, placing my forearms across my legs to support my weight.
"Whatever the other says — If I broke the truce you could tell me to run down Watery Lane wearing nothing but a smile, and the other way round," Finn decided, making me smirk.
"That sounds like a spot of fun — let's start making the rules, then," I agreed, and he got up, grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil off of the top of the fireplace, and sat back down, leaning on the coffee table.
"I'll write it up and stick it on top of the mantle so we can always see it, and so you can read it later on," Finn explained, already writing the number one.
I giggled as I realised I read the number — I learned my numbers from one to ten last night, as well as all my letters — Jeremiah called me a fast learner, a praise that kept me in a good mood all last night, even after Finn started on me because I dropped a plate.
"Okay, number one, no stirring each other up," Finn announced, writing it down.
"Number two, no touching me unless I say so," I supplied, leaning back onto my palms.
"I'll make it no touching each other unless the other says so. Number three, don't let the other get insulted in our presence, it will save a lot of fighting." Finn said, writing it down.
I frowned as I thought about how Finn didn't say anything to Linda yesterday.
"Number four, we have the right to walk away during an argument and the other person can't follow us," I added, watching the pencil glide gracefully across the page.
"Number five, look out for and protect each other — we're in the middle of a vendetta, the Italians probably know your family is working with mine, so they could target you too." Finn explained, making me purse my lips and nod.
As Finn put a full stop a knock sounded on the front door, along with Polly calling out. I got off the table, and walked over to the door, opening it.
Ezzie, Saoirse, and Lizzy were all standing there. Saoirse ran forward and cuddled me tightly.
"Are you off then?" Finn asked from behind me, coming to stand next to me.
"Yeah, busy day." Lizzie replied, "We'll see you after, come on (Y/N)."
"See you later," I said to Finn as I linked arms with Ezzie and grabbed Saoirse's hand.
"Miss Polly is driving us and Ezzie's getting in with Miss Ada and Miss Lizzie," Saoirse babbled, walking me over to Polly's car.
"Hey, Poll," I greeted, letting Saoirse slide across the brown seat before hopping into the vehicle.
"Morning," Polly replied, sending me a small smile and setting off, "I heard from a little birdie that you wanted a yellow dress?"
"Yeah, it's my favourite colour," I admitted, "But if I can't find one it's not the end of the world, I don't think we'll find one anyway."
"We'll do our best, my girl," Polly reassured me, making me grin.
"Saoirse, guess what I did last night?" I said to my little sister, watching her fiddle with the end of her coat.
"What?" She replied curiously, looking up at me.
"I learned how to read and write the alphabet, and my numbers up to ten," I said, watching her eyes widen and her jaw drop slightly.
"Can you teach me?" She asked excitedly, bouncing up and down.
"I can try," I replied, turning my eyes onto the road.
Within a few minutes we were outside a boutique named 'Susanna's Seams'. It looked nice enough. Polly stopped the car, and we all hopped out.
"Yellow dresses aren't common, so don't get your hopes up," Polly informed me, and I nodded.
The woman fixing up a mannequin in the window looked like she was going to faint when she saw us all. Polly strutted up to the door and opened it, Saoirse right behind her. I followed the pair, holding the door open for Lizzie, Ada, and Ezzie.
I shut the door behind Ezzie, and looked around. The older, frumpy woman behind the counter looked bewildered.
"(Y/N), flip that sign on the door to closed," Polly instructed, and I did as I was told.
"But we're open!" The woman in the window protested.
"Not until we leave, by order of the Peaky fuckin' Blinders." Polly said, pulling a flask out of her fur coat and taking a swig from it, then pointing the sliver object in my direction, "This young lady needs a wedding dress, something in a yellow shade."
The older woman rushed to the other side of the store, grabbing some dresses off of the rack.
"Sophie, come help," The older woman hissed, making the younger woman dart over and grab another, empty rack and wheel it over to the older woman, who started placing the dresses she gathered onto it.
I sat on a seat next to Polly, watching them scramble around for us. Once that rack was full, Sophie wheeled it over to us, the dresses ranging from a bright, eye catching yellow to a toned down, barely there yellow.
"Here you are," Sophie said, sounding breathless.
I stood up and started looking at the dresses, arranging the ones I liked to one side and the ones I didn't to the other side. I only liked three dresses.
"There's a fitting room over there near Susanna," Sophie pointed over to where the frumpy woman was, and I nodded, dragging the rack over there.
"Ezzie, get up and come help me with the zips." I commanded, and Esmeralda didn't hesitate to jump up and come over.
I grabbed the first dress and headed inside the room, Ezzie hot on my tail. I gave the dress to her, and she hung it behind the door. It was a nice dress, very much like a ball gown, with no straps and a big tulle skirt.
I started getting undressed, and, once I was in my under layers, Ezzie handed me the dress, and I undid the zip, then stepped into it, then she did it up.
"Oh, God, the material's not right, get me out," I urged, and Ezzie leaned over and undid the dress with ease.
I stepped out of it, and Ezzie hung it back up, and opened the door, grabbing the next dress. I tried it on, and the material felt fine, but it was unflattering.
"You look like a half plucked chicken," Ezzie snorted.
"Shut up," I grumbled as she undid me.
She passed the last dress, and I stepped into it, then looked at myself in the mirror in front of us, and I gasped.
It fit me like a glove, and wasn't unflattering in the slightest. It was an off shoulder gown with sheer sleeves ending at my wrists, and a tulle skirt, but it wasn't too big, just right. It had gold detailing on the bodice, which trailed down the dress.
(A/N: This is just the dress that came closest to what I imagined, you can envision your own)
"I feel like that fairy princess in the bedtime story your Mum used to tell us," I murmured, as if being loud would break the magic and the dress would turn into something horrid.
"You look gorgeous, (N/N)," Ezzie whispered as she did up the zip, "Let's go show everyone else."
She led me to where the other women were sitting, and Saoirse squealed.
"(N/N), (N/N), you look — you look so pretty!" She gushed, bouncing in her spot next to Lizzie.
"Gorgeous," Lizzie said sincerely, giving me a small smile.
"You look a vision," Ada confirmed, "If my brother seeing you like that doesn't make him want to skip the ceremony and consummate the marriage I don't know what will."
I blushed and looked away, not used to being complimented.
"Give us a spin, love," Polly encouraged.
"Yes, spin!" Saoirse shouted, clapping her hands.
I spun on the spot, giggling at how the skirt billowed around me.
"I never want to take it off," I told the girls, making Ada ‘aww’.
I felt truely and utterly gorgeous in this yellow wedding dress.
"It doesn't look very yellow," Sophie stated, making me scowl.
"It'll look yellow in the light of the sun, so shut your mouth you ignorant fucking cunt!" I snapped at her, Ezzie placing a hand on my shoulder.
"On the house," Susanna said as I stormed back to the fitting room to get dressed.
"We're Peaky Blinders, it's never any other way." Polly said flatly as Ezzie closed the door behind us, making me snicker, "And that girl there, Sophie, she needs to go — permanently."
Ezzie unzipped the dress, and I stepped out of it, pulling my other dress back on and slipping my feet into my shoes, and we walked back out to the women, Ezzie holding the dress. Sophie came over and Ezzie handed it to her to be bagged.
"Now, I don't want to have all the same style dresses, because what will suit one of you mightn't suit the other — Just pick whatever dress you want, preferably in your favourite colour," I informed the group, "The men can match a tie to a dress."
That had been a detail Finn and I had discussed last night after coming home from Jeremiah's. I didn't want everyone looking the same, we're not fucking blades of grass.
Everyone started getting off the seats and looking for dresses. Ezzie set off towards the green dresses.
I lead Saoirse over to the kids dresses, looking for a white one — Another detail we had agreed upon, the kids wearing plain white and black instead of colours. Saoirse was going to wear a dress that was white with a black sash around it, and Karl was going to wear a plain black suit with a black bow tie. I had no doubt they would have everyone clucky.
•••
We managed to get everyone the dress they wanted. Polly had picked a gorgeous purple dress, Ada snagged a dark blue, Lizzie grabbed a deep red, and Ezzie picked a bold green. The best part was that everyone looked absolutely, effortlessly beautiful in their dresses. That and the fact that we got all of the dresses for free.
I decided to keep my dress up in Polly's spare room. She didn't want me keeping it at the house in case Finn saw it.
The girls and I discussed my somethings; something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, and I had picked them out successfully, except for my something new, because apparently Finn was covering that for the pair of us.
The something old was going to be Birdie Boswell's pearl earrings. I was hesitant to wear them, but Polly said that they were passed down to her and she could therefore pass it down to whoever she damn well pleased. My something borrowed was going to be the tie from Dad's own wedding suit that he wore when he got married to Ezzie, Bonnie, and Saoirse's mother, Rose. I was going to wrap it around my bouquet. My something blue was going to be my undergarments.
On the way home, Saoirse jumped in with Ada, and the rest of us women went to go get my something blue — nice looking undergarments, with a matching garter set. I was planning on burning them as soon as I got home.
I could just wear a blue ribbon on my wrist. What the girls didn't knew wouldn't hurt them.

MASTERLIST
Finn could hear you chattering away to the girls most of the day. You bonded more with them than you did with him, and it was safe to say that they adored you, and you them, bar Linda. He was slightly grateful, because it would make your transition into the family easier on you if you were liked.
You had become a good use in the betting shop, whispering in the men's ears on which horse you thought would win. Who would be stupid enough to ignore a traveller girl with a nice smile?
Little did the men know, you were making sure Shelby Company Limited would earn all the men's money by telling them to bet their money on the losing horses. Polly admired your cunningness.
It was now the end of the day, the shop just closing. You were sat on Polly's desk, chewing gum, laughing at some story Polly was telling you about your Dad. Finn was stood in the doorway, watching the pair of you, feeling envious at how Polly had managed to worm her way into your good graces and he was stuck being called 'Shelby'.
Linda pushed past Finn to show Polly something or other.
"You can't read it, you're not part of the business," Linda said to you, dropping the file onto Polly's desk just behind you.
"You're acting all high and mighty for someone who joined the business five seconds before I came through the door," You replied breezily, "And besides, I can't read — or write — anyway. I can do my name, and Dad says that's enough."
That didn't come to a surprise to Finn, he only learned how to read when he turned seventeen last year, and he still wasn't the best at it, even though he practiced reading the Bible every night with Jeremiah Jesus.
Linda scoffed, rolling her eyes, "Doesn't your family care about you children enough to teach you how to read?"
You stopped chewing your gum, and pursed your lips, looking at Linda.
"What did you just say?" You asked calmly.
"I'm just saying, if you want a respectable job and not one as a whore or a hit man your father should have taught you how to read," Linda stated, opening up the file.
One moment you were sitting there as Linda started explaining what she was showing to Polly, and the next you and Linda were on the floor, you on top of her punching her relentlessly with no sign of stopping.
"Oh, fuck," Finn gasped, hurrying over to pull you off of Linda, who had blood pouring from her mouth and nose.
Polly made no move to grab you, just watching it unfold. In her opinion, you could say whatever you wanted about a person, but you left their family out of it.
You threw your right elbow back, hitting Finn square in the nose, sending him stumbling back. He was dazed for a few seconds, but quickly recovered, grabbing you by the collar and dragging you back off of the poor woman. He could feel his nose dripping blood.
You thrashed around in his grip, trying to get him to let you go.
"(Y/N), if you hurt Linda any more it'll make it harder for Tommy to consider your terms for the marriage — Bonnie and safety when passing through, remember?" Finn cautioned, making you stop your thrashing.
"Don't you ever talk about my family like that ever again, you Christian slut!" You shrieked at Linda, who was rolling on the floor, holding a hand on her face and groaning.
Finn helped you up roughly, his nose still pouring blood. He lead you to the bathroom, where he grabbed some toilet paper and dabbed under his nose. He looked in the mirror, thankfully it didn't get onto his shirt. You turned on the tap and started washing your hands.
Finn pinched his nose shut, making sure to lean slightly forward as he looked at you in the mirror.
"Linda's not in the bridal party then?" Finn asked, words barely decipherable.
"Absolutely not," You spat as you grabbed paper towels to dry your hands, "I want Polly to be there, and Lizzie — Your sister Ada can be there if she wants. That makes four bridesmaids with Ezzie, Saoirse can be the flower girl."
Finn nodded, then thought about groomsmen. Thomas, Arthur, Isiah, and someone else. Michael would still be in hospital. Maybe Bonnie? Karl could be the ring bearer, he was the right age for it.
"Erm, can Bonnie be one of my groomsmen? And can my nephew Karl be the ring bearer?" Finn asked, watching as you took deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth to calm yourself down.
"I'm not Bonnie's fucking mother, he can do what he wants!" You barked, "And yes, your nephew can be the ring bearer, now fuck up and leave me be!"
Finn gave you an awkward thumbs up, not wanting to nod. You would've laughed at the sight if you weren't still mad.
Polly entered the bathroom, looking at Finn then at you, "I'm about to take Linda home, everything alright in here, no trouble in paradise?"
You nodded, "I'm gonna stay in here for a bit until I cool down. He's just taking care of his nose. You, Lizzie, Ada, all have a spot in my bridal party do you wish, I will not have that cunt anywhere near me on Friday, if she's near me I might stab her with a spoon."
"Oh god, you've definitely got your Mother's anger issues," Polly muttered, making you frown, "Alright, tomorrow we'll leave nine o'clock to go to the seamstress here in town, sound good?"
"Sounds good," You confirmed, and Polly spun on her heel and walked out, her boots clacking against the floor.
Finn looked at you out of the corner of his eye. As he eyed you up, decided that you were more than capable of taking Linda out with a spoon.
You and Finn stood in silence for a few more minutes, you managing to get your anger under wraps. You spat out your gum into the bin, and Finn threw the bloody toilet paper in there as well.
"Come on, let's go home, I've got stuff to do," Finn commanded lightly, leading you out of the bathroom.
The pair of you passed the dining room, where Tommy was waiting.
"Finn! (Y/N)!" He called out, making you both turn, "Come here."
You followed Finn hesitantly, a big contrast to his confident walk. You were sure that Tommy was about to yell at you for hitting Linda.
"How was your day?" Tommy asked, his eyes flitting between you.
"Yeah, it was okay," Finn answered, conveniently leaving out the part where you thrashed Linda.
"I had fun bonding with the girls," You admitted, following Finn's lead and ignoring the elephant in the room.
"And Finn!" You added hurriedly as an afterthought.
"Good people. Well done. No trouble?" Tommy questioned, dropping his to his side, flicking the ash off the end of the cigarette.
"No. No trouble." Finn responded, shaking his head.
"What's this I hear about your fiancée flogging Linda, then?" Tommy asked, looking directly at you.
"She suggested my Dad was negligent. I wasn't having it," You answered simply, looking right back at him.
You were feeling nervous, even if your actions didn't show it, with the way your heart was palpitating you had no doubt.
"I know, and I think she knows that now too. Try to keep punches between you and any member of the Shelby family to a minimum from now on, yeah?" Tommy said, and you knew even though it sounded like a question, it was a command.
"Yeah." You agreed quietly, stepping back.
Finn let out a breath he didn't know he was holding as Tommy nodded.
"Erm, after we get married, (Y/N) wants some stuff to happen, Tom." Finn cut in, making Tommy cock a brow, but gesture for him to continue.
"She wants you to hire Aberama whenever you can, because he'll be family and we take care of our own. She wants you to promote Bonnie as best as you can, and for the Lees to leave the Golds alone whenever they pass through here," Finn concluded, looking Tommy in the eyes.
Tommy took a draw from his cigarette, then nodded, "I'll see what I can do, I should be able to fulfil your wishes. You can go now, I'll lock up."
You and Finn nodded, and turned to go.
"Oh, and (Y/N), good job on getting everyone to bet today, Poll told me. It'd be good if you can do the same tomorrow." Tommy added, making you throw a 'yeah' over your shoulder as Finn opened the door for you.
"What business do you have to do?" You asked Finn curiously as you set off down Watery Lane.
"Reading lessons, I have them every night if I have the time." Finn replied, "I learn from a preacher. He's my best mate's dad."
You nodded thoughtfully as you popped another piece of gum in your mouth.
"Would — would I be able to join?" You asked, looking at him, trying not to sound too hopeful.
"Of course you can," Finn reassured, making the corners of your lips quirk up.
You walked in a comfortable silence to Jeremiah Jesus's home, where Finn knocked on the door in a particular manner.
Isiah Jesus opened the door, and grinned at his best mate, then saw you behind Finn. He quickly stepped aside and let the pair of you enter his home.
"Finn, nice to see you again," Jeremiah greeted as if he hadn't seen the boy in ages, when in reality Finn was at his house two days prior. "Here for another reading lesson?"
"Yeah, and it's always a pleasure to be here. Isiah, Jeremiah, this is my fiancée (Y/N)." Finn introduced you to the men, "She doesn't do handshakes, or any touching."
You nodded in greeting, Isiah and Jeremiah nodded back and saying their heys.
"Would it be alright if she joined in our reading lesson?" Finn asked Jeremiah, who grabbed his Bible, along with some pencils and pieces of paper.
"Of course — Come sit down, Isiah go out the kettle on." Jeremiah commanded his son as you Finn sat either side of the man at the small, rectangular dining table.
Jeremiah told Finn to start reading a particular Bible verse out loud, then turned to you.
"Do you know how to say your alphabet?" Jeremiah asked you, sliding you a pencil and piece of paper.
You nodded, placing your hands on the table unsurely.
"Know how to write it?" Jeremiah continued, making you shake your head.
"I'll write the letters and you copy them underneath," Jeremiah said, quickly writing the twenty-six letters on the page, then drawing small arrows next to the letters to show you which way to direct your pencil on the page to form the letters.
He then pointed to the first one, "This is 'a'. Now, write it on your page."
You grabbed your pencil hesitantly, feeling embarrassed.
"Hold it like this," Jeremiah advised, picking up his own pencil.
You adjusted your grip, and placed your pencil on the page, writing a shaky 'a' then looking at Jeremiah, who smiled at you.
"Well done, (Y/N)." He praised, making you smile from ear to ear.
Finn looked up at you from across the table, stopping reading momentarily. This was the first time he'd seen you properly smile, the happiest you had ever been since he met you. In the moment before he started reading again, he decided happiness looked nice on you.

Part 1
MASTERLIST
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, Saoirse giggling and a dog barking.
I looked over at you, you were still asleep, hair still the way I adjusted it last night. You looked peaceful and calm, a big contrast to your sour ways during the day. Most of all, you looked at home. I felt a pang deep in my chest as I realised you would probably never think of a house as home, just like Esme. Maybe you could visit your family and stay with them whenever they came through, if Tommy allowed.
I rolled over and pulled the curtain back a tiny bit, revealing the early morning light filtering through the window above the bench, lighting the caravan and making it feel even more homely. This was the earliest I had woken up in months but the first time in a long time that I'd felt well rested.
I felt you move, so I looked back over to you. You had shifted so you were leaning back on your forearms, now awake.
"Morning," I greeted you quietly, letting go of the curtain, sending the bedroom part into darkness once more.
"Morning," You mumbled, bringing one hand up to rub the sleep out of your eyes, "Have a good sleep, Shelby?"
"Yeah, yeah I did," I admitted as you crawled out from under the blankets and took the blue blanket off of your window.
"I'm an early riser and I'm going to take my dog for one last walk before I go anywhere near your family, I'm not going to babysit you so do what you please until I come back," You stated as you clambered over me, exiting the bed altogether.
I heard you hiss as your feet hit the wooden floor of the caravan.
"Can I come?" I asked, throwing back the pile of blankets and sitting up, pushing the curtains to the side to look at you.
"If you want," You said, pulling on your boots then tucking your hair behind your ears.
You reached over and touched my coat, then drew your arm back as if you had just touched a pile of shit.
"Is that your coat?" You asked, looking around the van for yours.
I nodded as I jumped down and grabbed my boots, pulling them on and double knotting the laces as you wove yellow ribbon through yours. I picked up my coat and shrugged it on, finding your coat under mine.
"No wonder the sleeves kept on covering my hands, then," You murmured as I handed you the brown item of clothing wordlessly, and watched as you drew it around yourself, buttoning it up to the very top button, then pulling your hair out from under it.
"Look out," You commanded , nudging me out of the way.
I sat on the bench as you opened a cupboard under your bed and grabbed a hairbrush, quickly running it through your hair until it was knot-free, then carefully placing the wooden item onto the shelf once more, closing the cupboard door.
"Let's go," You instructed, leading me out of the caravan.
I touched the door jamb as I exited, grabbing the brass handle on your door and swinging it shut behind us.
Your siblings and your father were already up around the fire.
"Tuck! My boy!" You said joyfully as a brown and white dog came barrelling over to you, barking happily as you crouched to the ground, scratching behind his ears.
I tried to figure out where I had seen a dog like yours before, and it clicked; John had some of the same breed. He even let me name one.
I felt a lump form in my throat as my eyes welled with tears. I quickly brought my hand up to wipe my eyes, my ring feeling cold against my face.
"Shelby? What's wrong?" You asked, standing back up, one hand still on Tuck.
I shook my head. If I started talking I'd cry, and you seemed like the type of person to sit there and laugh if I did.
You pursed your lips, shifting your weight from foot to foot, "You should sit over near the fire, get some food into you. They'll take care of you."
I nodded, knowing if I talked my voice would fail me. You told Tuck to stay, and grabbed my sleeve, leading me over to the fire, to a seat next to Esmeralda, Saoirse sitting on the ground in front of her as Esmeralda checked her hair for lice. Bonnie was frying some eggs and bacon, thick slices of bread on a tray next to him. Aberama was pouring some tea into a mug.
"Take care of him, I'm taking Tuck for a walk." You commanded.
Saoirse nodded rapidly, her hair bouncing up and down.
"Alright — Bonnie, scramble me some eggs and cook a piece of bacon for Tuck!" You called out over your shoulder as you spun on your heel and went, Tuck trotting happily next to you.
I pulled my sleeve over my hand and roughly wiped my face again as I sniffled. How could a dog have me sitting here crying, in front of Tommy's business partners no less?
"Are you okay, Shelby?" Saoirse asked, fiddling with the hem of her skirt as she looked up at me with her big, doe-like brown eyes.
"It's Finn, don't be like (Y/N)!" Esmeralda scolded the smaller girl, smacking her on the shoulder.
I chuckled at the statement as the smaller girl mumbled a 'sorry, Finn'.
"Here, boy, get this tea into you," Aberama said, making me look over at him.
He offered me the mug he just poured. I took it, nodding in thanks.
"John — He had some dogs like Tuck," I explained, the words sounding like sandpaper.
Aberama nodded, clapping a hand on my shoulder. I took a sip of the tea, savouring how sweet it was before swallowing.
"Do you want some scrambled eggs?" Bonnie asked as he cracked two eggs into a bowl, mixing them together with a fork.
I nodded, and he added another two eggs into the bowl, as well as some milk, making sure to mix it thoroughly.
It would've been nice if the girl who was going to become my wife was here to comfort me.
I took another sip of tea, trying to wash away the lump in my throat with it, but instead of sweet, it now tasted bitter.
•••
You and I were now sitting in my house, back in Watery Lane. Aberama and Bonnie had bought us into town with a caravan, as they were heading to Charlie's yard. I had calmed down, but was sure I had a splotchy face.
You had picked out a bedroom for yourself, the one across from mine, saying you weren't keen on sleeping in the same bed as me ever again.
I checked my face in the mirror, making sure I didn't look like I was crying, and put on my cap, ready to go down to the betting shop.
"Ready to meet the girls?" I asked you, looking at you in the reflection as you sat on the floor, chewing gum.
"Ready as I'll ever be," You stated, hopping up.
You clasped your hands together behind your body, and shifted from foot to foot.
"Do I — Do I look okay?" You asked unsurely, looking down at the floor, then up at me.
I opened my mouth to reply, but got cut off by a gunshot ringing out.
"You look fine, they'll all love you more than they do Arthur's wife, stay inside," I commanded, opening the front door and locking it behind me.
Tommy came out of his house, looking bewildered, gun in hand, "Finn?"
"It came from Arthur's house," I told him, making him run to our older brother's front door.
He slammed his palm on the door repeatedly, then stepped back, "Arthur!"
He waited for a few seconds, then did it again.
Linda opened the door.
"Where is he?" Tommy asked, not waiting for an answer as he shoved past the blonde woman.
I waited, then Tommy re-emerged from the house.
"Arthur's not going to work today, he's sick, you're in charge of the betting den. Take (Y/N) with you, think of this as a bonding experience." He informed me, walking back to his house as if nothing happened.
I spun on my heel and went back to my house, unlocking it. You were nowhere to be seen.
"(Y/N)?" I called out, making you poke your head down from upstairs. "Everything's fine, let's go."
You nodded, and came down, walking past me and into the street.
"I think I would've been safer in my caravan than here," You grumbled, wrapping your coat tightly around you and tucking your hair behind your ears.
"No harm will come to you on Watery Lane, especially when I'm here — we're partners and we need to look after each other," I assured you, making you nod.
If you got killed then the deal would go tits up and I firmly believe that Aberama would turn his men against us and kill us.
"Now — for my sake and yours, we should try to be civil around the women — they're a lot harder on people than the men and won't hesitate to tear us to bits, yeah?" I said, closing the door behind me.
"Yeah — But sometimes I'm not nice and I can't help it," You admitted, putting your hands in your pocket.
"If it's warranted, I'll try to defend it." I stated, thinking about your outburst at the Garrison.
We walked in silence to the den, where I tried the door, and it swung open. I tsked and walked in, you hot on my heels.
"The rule is that door should always remain locked until 9:00am." I announced, leading you to sit down in Tommy's office.
"Right. Boy. Boy, where are you going?" Polly asked, stopping me in my tracks.
I stopped and spun around, putting a hand on your waist and guiding you around me, "Well, Arthur's not coming in today. He's taking the day off. So..."
"So what?" Lizzie asked, arms crossed.
"So, today, Tommy said that I'm in charge." I announced, matter-of-fact.
I could hear you snickering behind me, but you quickly hid it with a cough. I squeezed your waist, hoping you'd get the message and stay silent.
"Sorry, you're in charge?" Polly asked unbelievingly.
"Yeah. That's what he said." I reiterated, feeling warmth in my chest.
He actually trusted me with this.
Polly unplugged her phone and marched it over to Linda, "All right, sweetheart."
She then strutted over to stand in front of me.
"Ladies, let's give our boss a first day that he'll never forget." Polly said, adjusting my tie and grinning, peeking around me to wink at you, making you giggle.
I rolled my eyes and guided you to stand next to me, "This is (Y/N) Gold, my soon to be wife."
"Charmed," Linda said, turning back to her desk and fixing things up.
"Polly Gray, and that's Linda," Polly said, extending a hand for you to shake.
You nodded in acknowledgment, "Birdie Boswell's daughter, I've heard the tales. You'll have to forgive me, I don't do touching."
Polly retracted her hand, unfazed, "Aberama did mention that."
I dropped my hand from your waist at that comment. No one mentioned it to me.
"Lizzie Stark," Lizzie said, waving with a small, polite grin.
"Pleased to meet you all," You said, then smiled a sickeningly sweet smile, "I especially enjoyed Linda's warm welcome."
"I'll give you a tour of the place," I said hurriedly, wanting to move you before you got more snippy and an argument started.
"Come on, Finn, let us get to know her!" Lizzie protested, leaning against Linda's desk.
"You can do it at the wedding," I pointed out, making Poll roll her eyes.
"Yeah, you'll be too busy wanting to jump each other's bones for us to talk to her then." Poll replied, chuckling as she lit up a cigarette.
"I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole," You protested stiffly, screwing up your face.
"It's a natural thing to do, don't be scared," Linda said, turning in her seat to face us, a shitstirring grin on her holier than thou face.
"I'm not scared, I know what it's like," You snapped, sending my eyebrows up in shock, "And I'm fairly sure someone as high standing as Finn Shelby would know the pleasures of a woman, right, Shelby?"
You looked up at me, and my face went red.
"I, uh—" I stumbled over my words, feeling stupid under everyone's gaze.
"He's not been with a girl!" Poll crowed, clapping her hands, "Oh, little Finn's a virgin! (Y/N), dear, you're going to have to show him the ropes!"
It was at this comment that I turned around, ready to go to Tommy's office, not caring if you were following me or not. It seemed like today you were going to bond with the girls more than me.
"If you're that upset about it Finn I'm sure (Y/N) wouldn't mind spending some alone time with you before the wedding," I heard Linda tease, making the other girls giggle.
That was the last sound I heard before I shut the door behind me. So much for Tommy's orders for us to bond.

MASTERLIST
You and I were now sat around the fire with the rest of your family, having eaten our dinner of vegetable soup and flatbread. You were sitting next to Esmeralda, your younger sister Saiorse on your lap as she chattered about her adventures today. I was in between Aberama and Bonnie, a situation I very much wanted to avoid.
I looked at you as you flipped your hair back over your shoulder so it wouldn't be in Saiorse's way, then looked at your other two sisters. They looked one and the same, anyone would think that Saiorse was Esmeralda reborn. But you, you looked different — and you felt different.
Your eyes flickered over to me as you were talking to Esmeralda about someone named Brianna, and I felt my face flush as I realised I had been caught staring.
"Come on, we're talking a walk, Shelby." Bonnie's voice sounded from my right, making me look at him.
He was already standing up, lantern in his hand. I looked over at you, and you raised your eyebrows as if to say 'go with him'.
I stood up, and he wordlessly turned on his heel and went. I followed him, feeling entirely at his mercy. I heard from Arthur what he did to Billy Mills, and I'm nowhere near as good a fighter. I didn't even have my cap on me in case he made a move.
We walked a fair distance away from the fire before he stopped, and turned to face me, the lantern illuminating the scene around us making him look all the more scarier as he looked down at me. I drew myself up straighter, trying to make myself seem taller.
"You be gentle with my sister any way you can, you hear me, Shelby? Because if I find out you haven't I'll kill you and mail your body back to Tommy in fifty different parcels," Bonnie warned, "She doesn't need a harder life, not right now."
I nodded, the last bit of his statement making more questions than answers.
"I'm about to give you a photo, put that photo in your bag and show your brothers because the woman in that photo is not allowed to come near (Y/N) under any circumstances, and if I found out that she's come near (Y/N) I'll hit you so hard I'll send your nose up into your fucking brain, do you understand?" Bonnie stressed, and I could only nod.
He reached into his jacket, and produced a photo, handing it to me. I looked at it under the light of the lantern.
"Who's this?" I questioned, noticing how the woman in the photo looked somewhat like you.
"That's (Y/N)'s mother. She's a cunt, and the reason (Y/N) is the way she is. Her name is Marian Jones." Bonnie informed me, "She does more damage than good anywhere she goes, so keep her away from my little sister."
"I will," I agreed, knowing all too well what it was like to have a parent that hurt more than helped.
"I'm glad we could understand each other, Shelby." Bonnie said, grinning and clapping me on the shoulder as if he didn't just threaten to kill me, then led me back over to the fire.
•••
You and I were now in your vardo, under what seemed to be a million blankets, bar one thick, scratchy dark blue one you had hung up on the window above your bed to stop any light coming in. We had the window above the bench open, and the curtains partitioning your bed from the rest of the caravan shut, but you could still feel the fresh air.
It was a nice feeling, the cold air keeping my face cool while my body was warm under the covers. I could see why you liked sleeping with moving air instead of still.
"Your family's nice," I said as I stared at the star painted roof, trying to start a conversation.
You snorted, rolling over towards me and propping yourself using your elbow, "I could've told you that, Shelby."
I did the same, mirroring you so now we were face to face, "Yeah, but everyone says their family's nice."
"Not entirely true — anyway, I think Dad likes you, I'm pretty sure Bonnie and Esmeralda do too, and Saiorse hates you because you're, and I quote, 'stealing me away to live in your filthy house on Watery Lane'. So, all in all, you did good, Shelby." You announced, the corners of your mouth quirking up.
I huffed, thinking of Bonnie's chat.
"Bonnie has a fucking funny way of showing me he likes me," I grumbled, making you cock a brow.
I noticed a thin scar running through your brow as you gave me a look that said 'explain'.
"He threatened to kill me and send my body home in fifty different parcels, then threatened to hit me so hard he'd send my nose up into my brain if I didn't do certain things." I elaborated, making you shake your head, some of your hair coming over in front of your face.
You quickly flipped it back, tucking it behind your ears, "Bonnie's word is his law, Shelby. I suggest doing whatever he told you to do."
"Yeah well, my word's my law too, and I'll do what I said I'd do — that's a promise," I stated, looking you in your eyes.
You could only nod at the tone of my voice, one that meant business.
I yawned, and flopped down onto my back once more, closing my eyes, muttering 'goodnight'.
The last thing I heard before drifting off to sleep was you replying with, 'sleep well, Shelby'.
•••
Finn didn't want to do it, but he did. He put my hand on your shoulder, and shook lightly.
"(Y/N). (Y/N), wake up." He whispered, making you stiffen, then sit up quickly.
"I'm awake, what's wrong?" You mumbled, eyes still closed as you leaned over Finn, grabbing a match and lighting the lantern.
It was obvious to Finn that you had done that many times, which concerned him slightly — fire and wood didn’t really mix.
Finn took a deep breath in, then let it out, "Nothing's wrong, I just need to piss, and I'm scared of going alone."
Your eyes snapped open, and you looked back at the brown haired boy in your bed.
"Finn, you better be joking, because if not, I'll smother you with the fucking pillows and throw your dead body into the cut." You cautioned, making Finn shake his head, blushing, the blush reaching the tips of his ears.
"Oh for fucks sake! Hurry up and put your boots on before I decide to stay in bed." You commanded as you crawled over the boy, out of the warm nest of blankets, quickly putting on your socks and boots, along with whatever coat was closest.
The coat smelled nice, you decided, although you couldn’t place the name of the scent, something which bothered you nearly as much as being woken up for nothing. Finn rolled out of bed and slipped his boots on, not having to bother with socks as he slept with them on. He picked up the lantern, and the pair of you left your caravan, the fire still roaring as a few of your uncles sat at it, keeping guard.
You led Finn just beyond the tree line, then stopped, "Pick a tree, any tree, I'm sure they'd be honoured to have a Shelby piss on 'em."
Finn rolled his eyes as he hooked the lantern onto a tree branch, making sure you had your back to him, then began to take care of business.
Finn fixed himself back up and grabbed the lantern off of the branch, "You know, I was thinking—"
"If you're anything like your older brother Tommy, that's a dangerous pursuit," You cut in, making Finn clench his jaw, but ignore your statement.
"—I was thinking that you could meet the girls, Polly, Ada, and Linda, in the morning, after we settle you into home." Finn stated, turning to look at you.
His eyes widened once he realised you had on his coat.
You turned around to look at him, face blank, then nodded, making him grin boyishly, the light from the lantern glinting off of a small scar just above his lip.
"I suppose it's only fair, since you met my family. Now let's go back." You said stiffly, shoving past him and leading him back the way you came.
When you walked into your caravan, you kicked off your shoes and put the coat back down where you found it, and climbed back into your blanket cocoon.
Finn followed, blowing out the lantern and putting it on the table next to the bed, climbing up into the bed then pulling the curtains closed, slipping under the covers next to you once more.
You were already asleep by the time Finn had made himself comfortable, your hair covering your face. Finn gently ran a hand through it, pushing it back so it was out of your face, then stared up at the ceiling once more, counting the stars to help put him to sleep.

Part 1
MASTERLIST
Arthur was now dragging me down to the Garrison. Apparently (Y/N) and her elder sister Esmeralda were there, waiting for us. Fuck 'em. I didn't want to see any of those Golds, especially the one Arthur told me I had to marry. This would be the first time I'd be seeing you properly.
"Why the fuck are we meeting at the Garrison? She's too young to drink anyway," I complained as Arthur fixed my suit as we walked down the cobblestone streets, feeling slightly buzzed from my whiskey.
"She can drink if she wants, I wouldn't be surprised if she could drink you under the table - and behave, you're going to be tied to this girl until one of you die because Shelby's. Don't. Divorce." Arthur warned before we walked in.
Arthur strutted in, and I followed, automatically reaching up to touch the bottom of the door jamb, then we walked to our private booth, passing Harry and saying hey on the way.
You were there, looking out the open window, your hair shielding you from my gaze (and Arthur's), your hand near your mouth. From the soft 'click', it was safe to assume you were chewing your nails.
I closed the door and locked it behind me, making sure no one could enter. Your sister nudged you, saying something softly, making you tuck your hair behind your ears and look at us. Your eyes met mine, and breath caught in my throat. The sun coming through the window made your eyes look like they were glowing.
You scowled, then faced the window again.
Arthur ushered me into the chair and I slid across, stopping next to the window. I immediately started bouncing my leg. Arthur sat down next to me, saying greetings. Esmeralda replied, but not you.
"Have they organised a date for the wedding yet?" Esmeralda asked Arthur, her eyes flickering to me and back.
"Sometime next week, I suspect. Don't worry, we'll get a seamstress to sew her up a nice dress." Arthur reassured the pair of you — mainly Esmeralda.
"I don't want a white dress," You spoke, turning to look at Arthur, "I like yellow — I want yellow. If I'm going to get married against my fucking will, It's it going be in my favourite fucking colour."
Arthur nodded thoughtfully, "That can easily be arranged."
You settled back into your seat, looking somewhat content at the little say you had, "Good."
We fell into an awkward silence.
"I'll go get us some drinks," Esmeralda said, slipping out of the chair and out of the booth.
Arthur shifted uncomfortably as you openly glared at us now that your sister was gone.
"I hate you both," You announced, then looked back out the window.
I opened my mouth to say something back but Arthur raised his eyebrows at me. I quickly shut my mouth, knowing he would tell Tommy.
Esmeralda quickly came back in, a jug of beer and four glasses on a tray. Arthur flew up to help her set the tray on the table without breaking anything.
"Have they told you of your new living arrangements?" Esmeralda asked her sister as she poured her a glass.
You shook your head slowly. I perked up in my seat as Arthur slid me a glass, wondering what was going to happen. Esmeralda nodded towards Arthur.
Arthur pointed to himself, and Esmeralda nodded. You cocked a brow as you crossed your arms over your chest.
Arthur cleared his throat and shifted uncomfortably, leaning his arms on the tabletop, "You're moving to Watery Lane — with Finn. Orders of Tommy and your father. You're expected to move as soon as possible."
Your jaw dropped, as did mine.
"Fuck off!" You said at the same time I whipped out my pocket flask and took a long, hard swig of the whiskey.
This was the first I was hearing about it.
You stood up and stepped up onto the chair, then the table. You kicked the jug, effectively shattering it, making us all shout. Drops of beer landed on the yellow ribbon intertwined with your shoelaces, but you didn't seem to care as you walked down the table and hopped down onto the ground, and walked out of the booth.
"I'm sorry," Esmeralda said hurriedly as she got up and followed you.
Quite a fucking exit, if I do say so myself.
•••
I locked myself in my vardo, this time I was adamant about not coming out. This was my home, not some cobblestone street where all the houses looked the same.
"(Y/N)! Get out here, girl!" Dad called out, knocking on the door again for what must have been the eighth time in two hours, "I'll tow this fucking vardo into Watery Lane if I must!"
The thought of my precious home touching that filthy street made me blanch, so I quickly got up off my bed and stepped across the van to the door, taking a deep breath in through my nose and letting it out of my mouth before I swung the door open.
There stood Dad and none other than Tommy and Finn Shelby. I grimaced at the trio. Finn didn't have his cap on, the sun shining freely on his face. I could see the freckles spread across his pale skin. Tommy continued puffing on the cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth.
"What are you lot doing here?" I asked, leaning against the doorframe.
"Finn's staying the night with you, so hand over your weapons." Dad ordered, stepping past me and grabbing my rifle and knife, "Tommy was kind enough to let you have one last night in the vardo."
My jaw dropped once more. He couldn't be serious! I looked at Finn, who looked away.
Oh, he was very fucking serious.
"We've decided you're to get married on Friday, five days' time — we'll do it here, at the camp, and you're going in to get your yellow dress on Tuesday, in two days' time. Sound alright?" Tommy questioned as Dad stepped back down the stairs.
I didn't have very much of a choice, did I?
"Sounds divine." I said through gritted teeth, making Tommy nod and walk off.
Finn stood there awkwardly, hands clasped around the black bag.
I stepped back and opened the door to the caravan wider, tilting my head to the side, "Take your boots off on the stairs. I don't want mud."
Finn handed me his bag, and I went and placed it on the table. He sat on the stairs, slowly unlacing his boots and removing them, then stood up and came in, reaching up and touching the top of the doorway as he did so, looking around.
I sat on my bed, watching him as he trailed a finger along the table and looked at the trinkets I collected at fairgrounds lined up on the shelf on top of the stove.
"So?" I asked, cocking a brow.
He turned to face me, looking confused.
"Do you like my caravan?" I elaborated impatiently, feeling slightly nervous.
He nodded, and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"It's nice, really — just not what I'm used to," He replied, settling himself down on the seat next to the bed.
His leg immediately started bouncing. We settled into an awkward silence, and I brought my hand up to my mouth out of habit, making Finn reach over and grab his bag. He rummaged around for a bit then threw a little packet onto the bed.
I looked at it, and opened it. Chewing gum.
"To save your poor nails," He explained as I ripped the foil off of a piece and popped it into my mouth.
I pulled another piece from the packet and threw it to him. He unwrapped it carefully and placed half of it into his mouth and bit down, then threw the remaining half into his mouth, chewing like a cow.
I opened the window above my bed wider, to let breeze in more. I could smell something cooking on the fire, probably soup and flatbread again.
"Erm, should we figure out who's doing what role in the wedding?" Finn asked, scratching the back of his neck, leg bouncing a bit faster.
"No, not now, not ever." I hissed, glaring at the boy.
Finn threw his arms up, "Fuck me, (Y/N), I'm just trying to make things easier on us!"
I scoffed in disbelief as Finn ran a hand over his face, "They're marrying us off together because it's for the good of our families, (Y/N), can't you do this for your family?"
I closed my mouth, halfway through thinking of an insult, then opened it once more, "How will it help my family? I'm not doing it if it's not worth it, Shelby."
"I don't know, you can figure it out and we can make it happen. Tommy wants me to marry you because we could use a strong family like yours tied to us." Finn said, using his thumb to twirl the ring on his index finger around.
I thought for a bit.
"Can — can you keep the Lees away from us when we're passing through, keep it civil when we're camped close? Can you use Dad whenever you can? And can you promote Bonnie to the best of your ability?" I asked as the boy leaned back onto the seat.
Finn nodded, "I'll pass the message onto Tommy."
I thought about it for a bit, then narrowed my eyes at the boy, "How will it help me?"
"It doesn't, I think. I don't get many benefits either." Finn said softly.
I nearly felt sorry for him as I turned my head away to look out of my window, staying silent for a few moments.
"I'll do it for my family, don't think for one second that this is for you. And I sleep on the right side of the bed, with the window open. I can't stand a still room." I stated.
"Well, can we keep the curtains closed at night? I can't sleep with light." Finn informed me, making me groan and roll my eyes.
We weren't even properly married yet and I already hated it.

Part 3
CONTRARY - FINN SHELBY X READER; PART 1
MASTERLIST
(A/N: (H/T) = hair type, e.g. curly, wavy, straight, etc.)
I tucked my long, (H/T) hair behind my ears once more as I stood next to Bonnie and Dad at the fire.
Thomas Shelby had just passed a coin to Dad to toss for the yard. I knew damn well he wouldn't toss the coin when the price of losing was Tommy Shelby fucking my older sister. He adored her too much, not to mention how that would affect the family's image.
"Tommy Shelby, OBE, no wager today," Dad announced as he decided not to flip the coin, holding it high, "But with this penny I will buy a flower to put on your grave,"
Dad put the penny into his breast pocket, "When the time comes."
Tommy nodded, his blue eyes piercing us with their gaze, "And before that time, please don't again disrespect my friends or their valued property."
I nearly shivered from his icy gaze.
He placed a cigarette into his mouth, "We missed Christmas, let's have it now. Peace on Earth, goodwill to all men."
•••
I was now helping Bonnie brush my horse, Dad lighting his pipe behind us. Tommy Shelby entered the barn and put some bottles on the table, making Bonnie stop.
"She's a fine beast, this one." Tommy stated as he sat next to Dad at the table.
I felt pride swell throughout my chest as my lips curled up at the ends - yes, of course my horse was a fine beast. She was gorgeous, you'd have to be blind to not see it.
"Nothing you see is for sale, Mr. Shelby." Dad said, making Tommy open a bottle of whatever he brought.
"You know your grandfather camped with mine for a while?" Dad asked the man sitting next to him.
Bonnie kept on half heartedly brushing Charlotte, attempting to listen to Dad and Tommy's conversation, so I poked him, making him focus on how he brushed my horse.
"Yep, and it didn't last," Tommy answered, taking the cigarette out of his mouth.
"No, it ended badly in a pub called the Wenlock. We were owed money, still are." Dad replied.
"Is that why Dad doesn't like the Wenlock?" I whispered to my older brother, who hushed me with an elbow nudge as he stood up.
Tommy looked at my Dad with an unreadable expression, then spoke once more, "Other than money, and this scrapyard that's clearly not for sale, what is it that you want from me, Mr. Gold?"
"How do you know I want anything from you?" Dad shot back in reply, nearly making me snort.
Dad never did anything if it didn't benefit him.
"Well, because my company treasurer is a certified accountant and also apparently, a witch." Tommy answered, making me cock my head in confusion.
"You're a sporting man." Dad stated, making me look up at Bonnie, who grinned in reply.
"Yes I am," Tommy answered after a brief pause, clearly not knowing where Dad was going with this.
"And a gambling man." Dad added, then his eyes flicked over to us, "Bonnie, take off your shirt."
Bonnie did as Dad asked, walking up to the pair and started shadow boxing.
Dad looked at Bonnie, "What I want from you, Mr. Shelby, is for you to take a gamble on him. I want you to help my son achieve his ambition."
This statement made Tommy look at Bonnie too, who quickly finished shadow boxing.
"What ambition might that be?" Tommy asked sarcastically, making me snort.
•••
"Now (Y/N)," Dad started as we sat on the steps of his vardo, watching Bonnie shadow box, "I've made a business proposition with Tommy. It involves you."
I hummed as I brought my hair over my shoulder and brushed the knots out, not even minding that it hurt. My bare feet tapped on the wooden steps to no particular beat. Esmeralda laughed at my behaviour, but I didn't mind.
Bonnie had just been taken on by the Shelby brothers due to knocking out the Billy Mills, the former heavyweight champion of Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Warwickshire.
"What do you think of getting married to Finn Shelby?" Dad asked, making me stop and freeze mid-brush, turning to look at him.
"What?" I asked incredulously, feeling sure I couldn't have heard him properly.
"Do you need to wash out your ears? You're marrying the youngest Shelby brother." Dad said, making me drop my brush, the wooden object clattering on the steps before hitting the grass with a soft thud.
"Can't I choose who I'm going to marry?" I asked softly, looking at Dad for any chance of him crumbling.
"Can't she grow up first?" Esmeralda asked angrily, pulling me so my back was flush with her chest.
Dad shook his head. Of course. He'd benefit from this, so of course he'd go through with it. He really didn't do anything unless it was for his business. He didn't care about any of us.
"You can't be serious — she's sixteen!" Bonnie said as I stormed over to my vardo, locking myself inside.
Dad couldn't be serious, surely. I was only sixteen, I deserved to live my life. A sudden burst of anger overcame me and I picked up a pillow and launched it to the other side of the van with a shriek.
This wouldn't do. I pulled on my boots, threading yellow ribbon through the laces, then grabbed my rifle, unlocking the door and walking down the steps, calling out to Tuck, my English Springer Spaniel, before setting off on Charlotte, ignoring my Dad's calls for me to come back, along with Bonnie and Esmeralda yelling at him for his deal.
•••
I stared down at my shoes, now dirty, wondering whether to clean them or not. Probably not. It's Small Heath, they'd be dirty again once I left the house.
I had just gotten back from burying the bodies with Curly, now sitting with Polly, Ada, Lizzie, and Linda at Polly's waiting for Tommy's next orders.
I heard the front door open, then came an, "Oi! Finn!"
"In here!" Polly called as she put out a cigarette.
"Tommy said you're to be married to that Gold girl!" Arthur said as he entered the room, making my heart drop and my mouth go dry, regardless of the tea I just drank.
"Who, the one Tommy wanted to fuck?" Lizzie shot back, making Arthur shake his head as he sat sext next to me on the couch.
"The youngest one, the one who had her hair down, (Y/N)." Arthur informed me, making me go pale.
"You can't be serious, Arthur, she's not yet eighteen, she's just a child!" Polly protested as I stood up, stumbling over my own feet as I went and stood on the other side of the room.
"So is Finn!" Ada added, coming over and putting an arm around me.
"I'm serious, all right — Tommy wants to strengthen the ties between us," Arthur explained, making Ada protest again.
"Don't I get a choice?" I asked, taking my eyes off of the floor and meeting those of my eldest brother.
He shook his head. What Tommy says, goes.
I pushed off of Ada and walked out of the room, Arthur calling after me, Polly telling him to leave me be.
I stumbled out of Polly's house, feeling numb, and staggered across the way to mine and locked the door behind me, grabbing whatever was nearest and throwing it as hard as I could at the ground. Bad decision.
Some of the shards of the vase came back and nicked the skin of my cheek, making me hiss. I could feel blood drip down. I walked into the dining room, pulling a chair out to sit on. I ended up pulling it too far, sending it flying across the room.
"Fuck!" I yelled, slamming a fist down on the dining table, then walking to the sitting room and dropping myself into an armchair.
I put my head into my hands. I didn't want to get married yet. And if I was going to get married now, she'd be my last choice.
I growled and jerked my leg, kicking the coffee table, then putting my hand under it and standing, flipping the damn thing.
"Crap table anyway," I muttered to no one in particular as I stalked to the kitchen to pour myself some whiskey.
