YEAH TELL US YOU ABE RANT :3

As requested:

Abraham Portman was a cruel man.

Firstly, he left Emma pining for literal decades while he led her on with promises that he would send for her after he had a home for them. I can forgive him for feeling that he had to go fight in the war for his parents, Victor, other peculiars, and whatever other reasons. However, the way he led Emma on was cruel and unnecessary. He could have cut things off so much earlier. He could have made it easier for her to heal from the heartbreak rather than allowing the wound to fester, rather than slowly away and starting a family while leaving the poor girl loop-trapped and pining. It's bad enough to lead somebody on for a few months, but for literal decades? That's another level of messed up.

Next is the fact that the family he created while leading Emma on barely saw him. He felt that he had a duty to help the peculiar children of America. Fine, I understand that, but to not even try to know your own children when you are home, to break promises you made to them, to needlessly traumatized one of them and then ask for said trauma to not be fully removed? That is majorly fucked up. That man is lucky he even got to meet his grandson, let alone have the bond he did with him.

That brings us to the many ways he screwed over Jacob. Let's start with the danger that he put him in by not telling him who he was while he was living in the fucked-up world that is peculiar America. Yes, Florida and the rest of the South are a semi-lawless zone with no central power (please correct me if I'm not remembering this correctly). But did he really think that Jacob would never leave Florida? This child that he fostered a love of adventure in, staying in Florida for the rest of his life? There is no plausible way that Abe believed that. Yes, he didn't plan on dying that soon, however; he knew that there was a risk. He knew that there was a risk of hollows and weights coming after him because of him being one of the hollow hunters. There was also the risk of the Five Boroughs clan coming after him because he pissed off Leo Burnham. He was intimately familiar with how the clans functioned and knew how serious they were about revenge, and yet he left Jacob unprepared and ignorant to the threats he could be facing. He may have left all those little clues scattered, but you don't exactly have time to pick apart a puzzle when your life is in danger. Then there's the ridiculously vague clues that led Jacob to Cairnholm in the first place. Are you really telling me that Abe couldn't have written his own letter and put it in the book with Miss Peregrine's letter? Just a basic overview of what Jacob might want to know to get to the loop in the first place and not feel like he's losing his mind?

Circling back to Emma, his reaction to her calling him was appalling. While I do not condone Emma's actions and her treatment of Jacob, Abe didn't know about that. She called from the 1960s (I think). That man didn't even know he had a grandson, and he definitely didn't know that Emma was messing with said grandson. Also, I may be wrong, or Ransom Riggs may have given us wrong numbers again, but I do believe that Abe was still leading her on at this point. I don't feel like getting the book to directly quote, but I remember her saying something along the lines of, "I waited so long that if I had gone with him I would have been forty." I do believe that puts us within the time frame for letters being sent. So this man leads her on, doesn't even question how he's calling since I doubt the Priest Hole had their one phone at this point, and is upset at her for calling because she interrupted dinner? He literally put them in this situation by not cutting things off once he realized that he wasn't going back to the loop OR when he realized he didn't actually want her to come build a life with him.

In conclusion, Abe was the true villain of the story, not Caul. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk inspired by a desire to procrastinate on the work that I still have not done. Let me know if I missed anything.

So, instead of doing my work in fourth period today, I decided to write out all the reasons why Abraham Portman was a horrible person because there are many.

Would anybody be interested in me posting that rant? Fair warning it did get ridiculously long because that man was awful.

Bro I had surgery earlier today, and before I was going under, I was ranting to the nurses about how inaccurate the Miss Peregrine movie is.

and Millard stims in hollow city! And cairholm could be his special interest, he spent 70 years studying it :)

I forgot about the stimming. I think cartography would be a special interest of his as well as Cairnholm.

Does anybody else think that Millard might be autistic?

For me, I think he is because of his handling of awkward social situations and him documenting the island in the first book.

Okay, I wrote a fic about if Jacob couldn't turn back into a human at the end of DoDA. There's no Jacob x Noor or Jacob x Emma since I'm not interested in romance, and I don't like either ships. I'm open too and would deeply appreciate constructive criticism! Btw, chapter two's kinda long so be prepared😁

Chapter 1

Jacob Portman has done a surprisingly large number of stupid things in the past year, but he believes that this one takes the cake.

It went on and on, racking Noor's body until Jacob and all the other peculiars feared she would burst apart. When it was finally over, she rocked back onto her heels as the last gleams of Caul's soul dissipating in the wind and the black ocean current. Then, Noor slumped to the ground, all her energy spent from vomiting up a madman's soul(s)(?).

They all ran to her, Ms. Peregrine flying due to still being in bird form, circling around the light eater in hopes that she at least passed out. However, Noor stirred and Jacob and Bronwyn heaved her up with one gentle pull.

Jacob tried to speak to ask his friend, "Hey, you alright? Can you walk?" but his words came out as a garbled wail. Once again, the sobering reality that he was indeed now a hollowghast hit the once teenage boy like a freight train, a feeling of dread and "Well, shit" settling itself in his stomach.

He looked down as he heard Noor let out a small gasp. "You're glowing. It's inside you," Noor stated, a sense of dread forming over the group like a dark cloud.

Yeah, Jacob decided to not investigate that statement any further in hopes that maybe if he ignores his monstrous state, it'll all go away and he can be happy and human again!

"My God," Emma's voice cracked, tears brimming in her eyes. "Oh, Jacob, what have you done?"

"He saved us," Noor uttered weakly.

"You have," Hugh insisted, most likely with the intent to alleviate the guilt Noor probably felt.

Noor pulled herself away from Bronwyn and Jacob's support, shuffling her feet to face the hollowghast. "Jacob, open your mou-"

However, before any action could be taken to save Jacob's humanity, the cliff gave away beneath them, Ms. Peregrine's avian shriek of warning just a second too late.

Chapter 2

Darkness.

That's all Jacob saw for god-knows-how-long as he began to wake. Firstly, the smell of decay, blood, and rubble filled his lungs, making it evident that he was somehow in Devil's Acre, and indeed not dead.

Okay, what the hell happened? Last thing Jacob remembers is Noor throwing up, the cliff giving out beneath them and… Uh-oh. Jacob scrambled to his feet, feeling way too tall and heavy, as his head swiveled around the room until he caught sight of his reflection in a dirty, cracked mirror on the wall. He couldn't even recognize the monster that stared back at him, copied his movements and synchronized with his breathing. No longer a seventeen year old boy; his skin was an ashen gray with limbs that were too long—even by peculiar standards. His spindly fingers were now tipped with sharp claws, while his body looked emaciated, and eyes were a soulless black. Funnily enough, his black hair seemed mostly the same, making Jacob chuckle slightly as he ran a clawed hand through the strands. Instantly, however, he shut himself up due to the guttural sound escaping his maw that was lined with small, razor sharp teeth.

Jacob Portman, the grandson of the infamous hollow slayer, Abe Portman, now reduced to the very same monster that his grandfather had dedicated his life to wipe off the face of the earth; the very same monster that had ravaged all of peculiardom for a century. The irony was not lost one bit.

“Mr. Portman, you're finally awake. Everyone is eager for news about your condition.”

Jacob whipped around at the sudden voice from behind him, but quickly snuffed his panic as he realized it was just Ms. Peregrine—maybe she can help him! He tried to say her name but stopped as a guttural snarl rose from his throat instead of his voice. Ms. Peregrine didn't seem revolted from his inhumanity, however, she seemed more… saddened than anything, and Jacob knew it was his fault.

“What you did, Mr. Portman, was the most idiotic stunt you've ever pulled since first coming into this world. But… you had a hand in defeating my brother—I don't believe Ms. Pradesh would've been able to take him on alone. I'm afraid, though… there's no coming back from this, Mr. Portman, unless you would follow through in consuming another peculiar's soul, but I know you would never even consider anything in the likes. The Council expresses great gratitude for your sacrifice, but not all of peculiardom will be as understanding as we or your friends are.”

She paused to let her words sink in.

A million thoughts circled through Jacob's head as he was now made fully aware of the ramifications of his actions. Does he regret anything? No—not really—it's just soul-crushing to think about what his future will look like from this point on. From Ms. Peregrine's words, he fully recognizes that he's a monster that's feared by peculiars—he's like an outcast among outcasts, if you may. He thought that he could live the best of both worlds, normal and peculiar, but that's all gone now. Jacob can't ever see his parents, walk amongst peculiars, finish school, or anything as this abomination!

Inkly black tears silently feel down his face, an odd feeling since he's a hulking monstrosity. Suddenly, through his moment of self-pity, Jacob felt two arms gently wrap his neck. He glanced down to see the short woman that is Ms. Peregrine embracing him, standing on the tips of her toes so she can reach up to wrap her arms around his neck. Jacob instantly wrapped his lanky arms around the older woman, gently resting his head on her shoulders as he continued to sob, not caring for the ugly sounds escaping him. Ms. Peregrine never even flinched as his tears stained her already black dress, instead holding the monster in a motherly embrace.

“If it means anything to you, Mr. Portman, Abe would be so proud of you.”

She whispered to him, and it meant the world to Jacob.

I really need to work on homework.
