still remember picking up the og book at the school library as a kid glad to see the movie was also good
Jaws was the first of the great blockbusters in America, a classic Man vs Nature film, jaws captured my escapist fantasies when i was just a kid. Everything from the characters to the music to the monster itself is all great. Jaws managed to not only brought to life my love for monster movies but my love for the ocean. I’ve always had a fascination with marine biology growing up, and Jaws is the type of movie to inspire anyone. Grab your rifles and fishing nets and head to the sea, we’re hunting a pre-historic shark.
The only time in which a remake actually improves on the original. While the original is a fantastic piece of media, it is dated, but it does add to its charm. That being said, this movie manages to up the action, adventure, and drama making it a true epic. While certainly not as good as the original, it does surpass it in some categories. King Kong has no bigger fan than Peter Jackson and I’m happy he made a worthy remake to the legend of Kong, the eight wonder of the world.
Oh this movie is frighteningly good. A great crime thriller delving into the mind of serial killer, silence of the lambs has one questioning everything from morality to the Justice system itself. The main character, Clarice Starling, is a great lead and a great opposite to the main villain, buffalo, a sick sack of shit. But the real stealer is none other than Hannibal lector, this performance won Anthony Hopkins an academy award and I don’t blame them. A remarkable movie and one that shouldn’t be missed out
Talk about a dramatic shift, we go from a very adult thriller to a family film but honestly that goes to show the power of just how good this movie is. Toy Story 2 is one of the few examples in which a sequel is actually better than the original. This was the first movie I saw in theaters, all the way back in 1999. Toy Story 2 improved on everything from the first movie while adding more, like brand new great characters who would become staples, Jesse and Bullseye are great characters who added a lot to this series. Over all, an A plus sequel and one I think is the best of the Toy Story films.
Surprisingly, this is the only Harry Potter movie on my list, which I think is a real shame because these movies are really good. But if I’m gonna pick one Hp movie for my list, it should be the second one. This movie captures both the wonder and beauty of the early films while having the dark and cruel nature of the later films. It improves from what we saw in the last movie and then some. Not only that, but this is the first movie that really shows the camaraderie of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. It was there in the first movie but it truly came to life in this movie. Over all a great sequel that I think a lot of people sleep on. Even if the author of this series is a terrible person. Trans women are women, trans men are men. Trans people are people.
I’m not really into sports dramas, I think sports are mostly boring. But rocky is different since it’s not a sports drama, it’s a character piece. The story of an underdog who gets the chance to rise to the occasion and gets to box in the big leagues. An inspiring story to say the least but also a great look on our main character. Rocky may be a big tough guy but he’s deep soul, he wouldn’t break a man’s thumb despite being told to, told a young girl to clean up her act, and sees the beauty in a shy store clerk named Adrian. It’s truly a beautiful movie that hides behind the sports aspect of this movie.
This is such an underrated sequel. This was the first Jp movie I saw, and the one I watched the most growing up. This is the movie that launched my love for dinosaurs, unlike most sequels which just redoes the original movie, this one is more of a continuation and I think it works better. I honestly think lost world gets dunked on too much because it isn’t the first movie but that’s okay. It’s still a fun action adventure movie. Filled with great character and a great soundtrack to boot. This movie really brings you back to the era of dinosaurs.
This movie was robbed! Such a beautiful film though, it really captures the meaning of life and we value family. The story of a robot programmed to help people but finding their independence is nothing new but how this movie does it is breathtaking. Roz’s relationship with Fink and Bright bill are what truly makes this movie. I’ve never read the boos but I bet they’re just as good as this movie. And honestly this movie deserves all the praise it gets. Please watch it, it’s steaming on Peacock right now.
This movie is just incredible, it really is. This movie perfectly science, fantasy, and the unknown. The story of Mrs. Brisby and the rats of nimh was already a classic story but this movie just brought it to life in more ways. Mrs. Brisby is probably the best animated mom to exist. Sure she’s just a tiny mouse, but she never lets that get to her. She goes through all these dangerous obstacles just to save her family. She truly is an inspiration to people. Not only that, the animation is gorgeous, the characters are fun, and the soundtrack really captures the feel of this movie. Please watch this movie.
So many memories of this movie growing up, lili and stitch starts off as a “kid and their pet” type of movie but it also tells a deep story about family. Nani and Lilo’s relationship are what make this movie work, and the found family trope really fits a movie about aliens. It may be the black sheep of the Disney family but in my opinion it’s still a classic none the less.
Well, that’s it for this list. Tune in next week when I give you numbers 40 through 31 of my favorite movie list.
(Kamen Rider au)
I found some old art made back in March, and thought I'd share them since it showed their dynamic decently well.
(When they first met, at least)
I like to think that after vontra figured out Auxilium's real identity (roz), she became extremely upset, aware that she FAILED at capturing roz at that time
She's a robot, she does robot-y things. She seeks units or targets to be retrieved back to universal dynamics either to get reconditioned and sent back to rotation or be destroyed. That's what she was made for, her programming.
Her "Destiny", if you will.
And to see herself fail at the one thing she was made for, fail at her "Destiny" would definitely tick her off in some way
This is what would ultimately lead her to convince the scientists at UD to let her be a part of "Project Archus," (don't ask how, I'm still figuring that part out) allowing her to confront roz and finally finish her task and capture her for good
While it does seem like im painting her as a villain (and she kinda is, at least for now), I see her more as a rival, similar to vegeta and shadow the hedgehog.
Aight, here goes nothin
The Wild Robot X Kamen Rider crossover AU
(Art by @hanpi_kun on Twitter)
This au has been in the works since December of last year. It's only now that I have the courage to show it here in Tumblr (please go easy on me)
I even came up with a synopsis :
"Roz, a rozzum unit longing to return to her island home, finds herself entangled in a perilous twist of fate. Unintentionally thrust into the role of humanity's unlikely hero known as "Kamen Rider", she becomes a key player in a covert project operated by one man to protect humanity's future. Now, Roz must contend with the schemes of Universal dynamics, as well as confronting a corrupted rozzum unit and her army of "Augments." Whose destructive rampage threatens to wipe mankind off the planet, as part of their mysterious "Salient Neutrality initiative."
OR
I turned roz into a power ranger because I'm fucking bored
And unironically, i think that's probably the best way to describe what kamen rider is to people who never heard of it, except instead of men in spandex, we have cyborg karate bugmen in motorcycles
Also I think it's important to note that this au takes place during "The Wild Robot Escapes", the sequel to the original book of the wild robot.
(Please excuse the poor art)
For roz's design, I decided to (or at least try) lean towards Kamen riders from the showa era, like white gloves and a scarf
I also gave her a shield as a little spin on kamen rider's usual trope of having a sword as their weapon, emphasizing her nature (or programming?) to defend. She doesn't want to fight, she wants to protect.
We've seen her willingly risk her life to protect an island full of animals. In this au, I want to take it to the next step and see if she'll risk her life once again, only this time to protect humans who are actively working against her.
Will her limiting code set her up for failure, or will she become more than what she was programmed to be, for the sake of humanity's future?
In contrast to Roz, Vontra's design took inspiration from Kamen riders from the heisei era (the era after showa). A lot more sharper edges, less clothing materials like scarves and gloves, more armor, and collars.
Much like her original body, vontra has tentacles that she can pull out on her back. (She only got four instead of five, though)
But since she was given weapons and various data in martial arts by universal dynamics (to counter Auxilium in combat), Vontra wouldn't use them at all if it proved unnecessary.
But sometimes, she'll pull them out for use as extra hands or intimidation tactics. (or just aura farming)
One more detail : the name "Archus" came from the word "arc", which represents progression and development of a character.
Hmm, wonder if that's hinting at something.
Here's a closer look at the belts
Kamen rider's transformation gear almost always consists of solely a belt that is activated by the Rider doing a pose and saying "Henshin". But for this au specifically, they work differently.
For instance, the assistance driver (roz's gear) is used to activate her combat protocols, which basically overrides her inhibition protocols, allowing her to fight properly. But in turn, it severely drains roz's power and, as a solution, limited the usage time of combat protocols to only three minutes. Leaving roz barely holding on before collapsing down, out of power.
Once it reaches 2 minutes the light at the center of the driver will start blinking red, signaling that they only have 1 minute remaining.
(Basically, think of Ultraman's color timer)
As for Vontra's, her gear basically works as an extended power core. Like roz's, it also starts blinking red. But it's not limited to time, more so as it's a measuring system of how much energy and power vontra has left. If it's red, it's time to retreat.
Ah yes, evil roz be like
"A rozzum NEVER completes it's task"
I don't got much to say about her from a design standpoint other than the foot that took way too much time to draw than I would've liked.
I specifically drew inspiration from Kamen Rider Ark-One, from Kamen Rider Zero-One.
One last thing to say about this au
The story took a few inspiration from stories like Megaman and Big Hero 6, where robot assistants became heroes and whatnot. And I thought to myself
"What if roz became one as well?"
Well that's all I got for this au
I will be sure to expand on it, flesh out the world, characters, plot, and everything else. As I have also planned to write a fanfic based on this au.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
Have a nice day!
I didn't look at my mother throughout the entire performance... I think the fact that she and the robot are single mothers raising children with a problem, I think she didn't notice that I noticed her crying I was also crying watching the sacrifice she has made for me and I loved watching the movie, the soundtrack is beautiful, the movie itself is beautiful, thank you Dreamworks for such a great work.
Made a review for The Wild Robot forever ago and will post here just cause why not
I have a lot to say about this movie. The animation, first off, was gorgeous. It looks like it resembles a painting of sorts (no doubt inspired by Puss In Boots: The Last Wish), which you can mostly see through the environment and the animal's fur textures.
Speaking of the animation, during Fink's story, the animation changes to a 2D-like style and the frame rate drops pretty noticeably. Not sure how to feel about it, but it's utilised well enough and the film doesn't overuse it. The lighting in the movie, as well, was very nice, the red of the flames and the blue of the sky contrasts very well. This along with the robots self-destructing, the entirety of the forest's day/night scenes, and the bright white of the city are very well done IMO.
The soundtrack, from what I could hear during watching, seemed to be pretty limited with its use of an orchestra and motif. Despite the repetitiveness, it serves its purpose well as the film's main soundtrack.
The characters are interesting. Roz is definitely the most interesting out of all the main cast, though (except for maybe Brightbill).
Alright, so, Roz is a sentient robot that learned everything she knew from the environment around her. That's the entire reason we see her occasionally "act" like some of the animals later on in the movie. Something cool I noticed while watching was that as she was setting up another Rozzium to talk to, as soon as she started speaking to it and changed its name, I could feel that she had a bit more emotion in her voice and that she sounded uncertain and more...human. It's a pretty nice and subtle way of of conveying the fact that Roz gained sentience without the movie outright saying it. She tried her best to take care of Brightbill, doing as well as a robot could (even with her "learning mode"). Speaking of Roz's learning mode, IMO it was a really cool way for Roz to understand the world around her and allow her to communicate with the island's animals. Seeing Roz learn about the island and how to take care of herself and Brightbill was pretty interesting to watch. Her lack of sentience and understanding of living things early on in the movie is nice to see change once she begins to understand what being a mother and your own "self" is.
Now, onto Fink! He's a bit more "typical" of a character; a cunning fox taking advantage of someone who doesn't know better so he could get food easier. Sounds kinda like the fox from The Plague Dogs tbh. Anyway, Fink starts off as a typical fox character, right? But over time, he shows that he does care, at least a little about Roz, Brightbill and the other animals. Hell, he even bothered to help Roz find the other animals and bring them to their shelter despite him not wanting to. Also, thinking about it now, maybe Fink's occasional mention about how nobody likes him and how he doesn't have friends, maybe he's just saying that because he wants friends. Eh, it was probably obvious but I sort of thought about it while I was typing this.
Okay okay. Brightbill. This freaking goose. I love the attention to detail in this movie in general, but the way Brightbill gets attached to Roz and even adopts her mannerisms?? Beautiful storytelling right there. It's probably a bit of a "no duh" moment but I thought it was nice. Anyway, he and Roz have probably the best (and some of the only) arcs in the whole movie. Like Roz, he had a bit of a steep learning curve considering the fact that he grew up learning from a non-living being that probably didn't understand how life worked at the time. Despite that, though, Brightbill was able to overcome what weaknesses he had and learn to fly and (kind of) swim.
The rest of the animals didn't really do too much until the second half of the movie. During the first half, though, we see their fear of Roz and how it impacts the characters and story once Roz begins to understand them and when Brightbill comes into the picture. Honestly, I'd say their fear is at least somewhat justified. A strange giant metal creature essentially causing havoc and potentially harming other animals makes Roz seem pretty terrifying if you don't know what's up (though their treatment of Brightbill was a bit fucked up. Like, why the hell would you shove the kid underwater when he doesn't know how to swim?? Those geese were just straight up bullies).
Next, the story itself. The first half of the story, up until the geese arrive at the city, is very good. There's not much I have to say about this, although I feel like the spend a bit too long on Roz, Brightbill and Fink. But that's just my opinion. Anyway, the second half of the movie kinda felt....underwhelming. Like, it was good, but I wish they had more time to expand a bit more on the villain whose name eludes me (It's Vantra, apparently). She didn't quite feel like the main villain of the movie. Yeah, she was following orders and trying to take Roz away and wipe her memories, sending out other robots to capture her and self-destructing them and causing a massive fire, but she didn't do much (besides the last few points) that felt entirely villainous. She was just following orders for the most part. Still, even if she outright claimed to be a morally ambiguous character (what was the reason for staying that, anyway? Was it just for the audience or something?), she still did some kinda shitty stuff in the movie. But, considering the city's way of handling the geese in the greenhouse, yeah I feel like it makes sense that she'd do what she did. Another thing about the second act is that Roz's whole "I was shut off but I could still hear you" thing kind of felt a bit cheesy to me. It didn't make much sense logic-wise either, but the movie was only an hour and 40 minutes, so they probably had to come up with a good, quick way to end the story.
The second half of the movie overall, I feel like they could have done way more with it, but I'm okay with what we got, albeit somewhat disappointed. If they make a sequel, I hope they show more of the city and how it works, because it seems like it has some potential going for it. A random theory I have about the city is that, judging by the robot's behaviour in the second half of the movie, the city's one of those fake utopia's that's really fucked up under the surface. We'll see, though.
Okay, so I have a bit more to say about the movie, but it's mostly just random other stuff. You can scroll to the bottom if you're not interested :)
The voice actors did pretty good. The only one I thought was not as good was Mark Hamil. I'm just not a fan of the voice he did for the bear.
For the people who know, have you noticed that Roz's and Brightbill's part of the story seems a lot like the plot of Leafie: A Hen Into the Wild? For those who don't know, Leafie is a Korean animated film that's about a hen named Leafie taking care of a baby duck she names Greenie after his parents die. Go watch it if you haven't! It has a wonderful story and animation.
The Wild Robot is kind of intense for a kid's movie tbh. It was good though, it just kind of surprised me while I was watching.
I really like the realistic way the movie handles the animals (someone finally uses the right call for a hawk. Which is commonly used as an eagle's screech because the eagle does not sound as scary as it looks). The inclusion of migration and the threat of death and whatnot was a nice addition.
Thanks to everyone who bothered to read my essay of a post! I hope whatever I've said throughout made sense. I'm not all that great at explaining things lol
Sorry if there's any formatting issues btw, I tried my best to make it somewhat readable :’)
