Hi! For anyone wanting to know when I'll update my fic (the chaos of Peter's life and everyone discovering it), I have some bittersweet news. From now to july, I'll be on hiatus rewriting what I've done, because I've been getting the itch to write more professional and I want to make a whole lot of new development I didn't do. I don't know if I'll do it by chapters, or if I'll just make 8 chapters and add them at the same time. I don't know if I'll get to finish it before then or how long the fic will get to, but I can assure you it'll become at least twice it's length now.

PETER'S SPIDER HABILITIES

Hi! In here you'll see my hdc about what h abilities did Peter acquire from the spider bite! It WILL require for me to write major spoilers ahead of what I have planned for my fic: "The chaos of Peter's life and everyone discovering it" so read with that in mind!! If you don't read my fic I think it will still be pretty detailed regardless, but you do you! :)

Most of my information is a sum of my own knowledge, some headcanons, and me reading some absurdly large article's about spiders and their characteristics. Do keep in mind that I've decided that because the spider was radioactive and an experiment, I don't care about what kind of spider bit him because I think it's fair to think they also cross bred spiders.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR MY FIC!!!

Venomous fangs:

After the spider bite, the venom of said spider not only changed his DNA drastically, but it also moved said venom on top of his mouth into recently acquired (from the change of DNA) venom glands. His fangs also got larger by taking some of the matter inside the teeth and moving it to make it pointy. Therefore leaving a tube like hole for the venom to come out of.

This venom comes out from these fangs automatically in small quantities (because the hole goes straight down, so gravity pulls it down, unlike with actual spiders), and in larger and faster quantities if actively injecting it. So to stop it he has to actively stop it.

That will cause him to accidentally poison himself at every moment without even realizing, and actively poison himself further everytime he eats. Because his venom is the same as the spider that gave him powers, that means he'll progressively and slowly but exponentally, get stronger and new powers.

One day, he'll accidentally bite himself and he'll suddenly get a big power boost (because it'll be injected by blood and not digested and dissolved by his digestive system). After realising (with the help of Dr Banner) that he has been poisoning himself, he'll learn to stop it from happening.

Regrowth of limbs:

After he accidentally bits himself, one of the powers that he'll acquire will be being able to regrow limbs, but like spiders, they will grow smaller.

That will (maybe) be discovered with Dr Banner when they're doing some tests. But when it'll be used for sure will be in the fight against thanos (or more exactly, after). There, he'll lose one or more limbs, and while they regrow and after, will have to adapt. (I haven't ever lost an arm, so I don't know the struggle first hand, I'll try to get as educated as possible for when the time comes, but if I ever get anything wrong tell me please! Also, any tips are appreciated!)

Stickiness:

In my researched I've found that some spiders aren't inherently sticky, but get by by other factors. I personally have some sciency freak (and absolutely bizarre and not possible) theory I like:

The reason why Peter had problems controlling this power is because it works in a very strange and difficult way. His atoms got changed by the radioactive part of the spider and now, when he touches any surface, if he doesn't actively try not to stick, his atoms will unstabilize the atoms of the surface he's in contact with and create covalent bonds with them.

When he actively tries not to stick, his brain sends something (idk what) to his nervous system that stops his atoms from sticking.

This will be a major plot point, when he gets some limb amputated, someone (don't ask who because I don't know either) will bite the not attached limb to try to adquire his powers, and all his atoms will go like crazy and it'll make a nuclear explosion.

(Don't say it doesn't make sense, I know it doesn't make sense, but I like it guys...)

Spidey sense:

Here I'll just explain where it comes from. It comes down to 3 things.

The enhanced senses. This doesn't have any important and specified hdc except sight. All the other ones are just an enlargement/enhancement of the parts of the body that help our bodies have those senses. An example would be that he has much more nerves in every part of his body.

Eyesight. This one is like he developed invisible and not noticable spider eyes inside his pupils. There he gets better eyesight and some (not a lot) night vision.

Body hair. His body hair is a lot more perceptive, like spiders trichobothria (their hairs), that feel vibrations and air currents.

Talking to spiders:

He is able to communicate with spiders, but he doesn't realise it's in another "language", it's like when you're bilingual and talking to someone in a language and without realizing say words in another one.

He doesn't really appreciate them at first, because he's scared of them after the bite, but he'll get to love them and maybe have a spider army (not an army, because I'm anti war but UK it sounds good).

Super strength:

His muscles got bigger to make him have the relative strength of a spider. And his muscle tissue got doubled.

Super senses:

His hearing gets to like 2 blocks away for people talking and 6 feet away for heartbeats. (Please don't ask about the ratio and how it doesn't make sense, it's approximately and I'm European so I don't even understand the American system.)

His eyesight isn't out of the normal for humans, but he has better eyesight because he had to wear glasses and now he doesn't. He did get a little bit of night vision though.

He can feel things to the very next level, he has a lot of sensory issues like autistic people (me).

He can smell from 11 feet away things that if they were a feet away we would barely smell.

He can taste a lot of the ingredients more, and if it has a very strong flavour, even the kitchenware that it was cooked with too.

Other characteristics:

He can't thermoregulate, because spiders are cold blooded. That will be one of the major points that will make him realise he's in live with Johnny.

He's short because he was already short before the spider bite, but female spiders are a lot bigger than male ones, so he'll never get taller than 157cm.

He's got some instincts about prey and wanting to tie them with webbing. That's one of the reasons why he started to tie criminals like that.

He's allergic to peppermint and mint.

His instincts make him want to be upside down most of the time.

spider-man FIC

okay guys... I made a post about my fic (the chaos of Peter's life and everyone discovering it) and saying that if you have any questions to go right ahead... So that might have been more of a beg and plead from me than a question. GUYS I'M INSANE ABOUT THIS AU PLS ASK ANYTHING

I recently realized Johnny Storm has never really appeared in a significant role in a Spider-Man series, nor has the Web-head been properly featured in a Fantastic Four show, and so their friendship has remained pretty much completely un-adapted.

Somehow, despite being best friends for years and appearing in numerous animated shows, the only thing to give a proper team up with Spider-Man and The Human Torch is a Disney Junior show.

Like, the only other times I can recall them even interacting was Spider-Man TAS, where Johnny had a small role in Secret Wars, and Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes, where Peter is a nameless photographer Johnny hired (although that was due to rights issues) and Scarlet Spider making a cameo in the 90s FF show. Spectacular Spider-Man WOULD have had Johnny in at least one episode, but since it was a Sony production and could only use Spider-Man characters, those plans, as well as plans to use any other Marvel hero was scrapped. Licensing issues are also why Amazing Friends created Firestar instead of using Johnny and why the FF show from that time created H.E.R.B.I.E.

Somehow, despite Disney and Marvel, basically owning the rights to everything in regards to animated shows. They still haven't.

Even with a new Spidey show coming out every few years, still nothing. Even when every show tries to throw in a bunch of other Marvel heroes, no Johnny. I mean, it's especially odd when the antagonistic dynamic Peter had in Ultimate Spider-Man with Nova felt like they were trying to write him like how Peter and Johnny were early on.

I mean, each show has had a habit of making Peter's supporting cast other superheroes, or at times turning his supporting cast INTO superheroes (Ultimate made Harry both a hero and villain as Black Suit Spider-Man, Venom, Patrioteer, and Anti-Venom, and made MJ Spider-Woman via the Carnage symbiote. While 2017 had Harry be Hobgoblin) but not have included the guy, who's arguably been Peter's best friend for years and already is a superhero! (Though that may be because Marvel didn't want to use the FF or X-Men, as they felt it would promote Fox's movies. Which was stupid and petty, but might be the reason).

And now, another show has not only made another Marvel hero be Peter's best friend, but they made the Future Foundation suit, the outfit Peter wore when he took Johnny's place on the FF, per his last will and testament, something given to him by Norman Osborn!

That might have come off like I dislike the new show, I haven't seen it yet, so I can't judge its quality, and I'm not going to, off that alone. This post isn't really meant to criticize anything, really. Just voice something I've noticed recently and how odd I find it. I guess it doesn't really matter, but I like Peter and Johnny's friendship, and I wish it was in more things than just the comics. Marvel Rivals seems to acknowledge it, though.

I'm told the old Romita era comics made a number of failed attempts to advance Gwen, and one of them involved taking some of MJ's traits and giving them to Gwen. After Gwen passed away, Gwen then started to be romanticized because she was dead. Did Gwen ever have a personality unique to her or was she always just MJ-lite?

Well... Gwen came first.

The traits she adopted from MJ (at Stan Lee's request) were mostly cool-kid jargon and fashion sense, which are things it makes sense for friends to pick up from each other. They even manage to play it off as cute in-universe characterization.

But they act and think very differently! If anything... MJ was Gwen-lite. Gwen at least got some thought bubbles. MJ started as just eccentric, hot, and self-centered because--well--it was funny.

They have separate lives. Gwen comes from an upper-class household with a cop for a dad and comes off as preppy and sometimes entitled. MJ lives with a working-class aunt and acts more alt-culture liberal but usually isn't on anyone's side but her own. Gwen is getting a scientific degree alongside Peter. MJ is following a long-shot dream of making it big by taking classes at community college. Gwen is Ditko flavored, MJ is Romita flavored.

Gwen is direct and confrontational where MJ is sarcastic and evasive. Gwen will insult someone she likes to get their attention while MJ will flatter people she dislikes just for kicks. Gwen has an investigative bent where MJ has a minding-my-own-damn-business field. Gwen checks in on friends' mental health, angry-cries fairly easily, and asks for help when she needs it. MJ would rather die than have an Unauthorized Feeling.

Gwen is fiercely loyal and cares a lot about things being Fair; she'll get in a stranger's face over something MJ would laugh off. MJ is now known as a combat pragmatist who can hold her own against supervillains, but people forget that Gwen would come at people with her BARE HANDS when she got mad. Just like Peter<3

"boring good girl vs cool bad girl" is the flattest way to read the girls' characterization and I'm sad it's reduced to that in people's minds. I say everything in this post as a huge 616 MJ apologist: Gwen wasn't left behind because she was the two-dimensional one.

since you do a lot of on point (in my opinion) takes on the characters, especially Sanemi, Thought I had to talk about my very (second)favorite headcanon, (bc I project so much), but I think I THINK Sanemi has ADHD one way or an other (maybe even dyslexia too? idk)

-Emotion dysregulation: temper, emotion dysregulation, he's always angry at everything -Delayed emotional processing: process delay, if not fanon, bro became depressed after the final battle, and it's a common thing in ADHD to grief way later in life, usually when everyone had moved on and everything had settled -Crisis-driven hyperfocus(Ig that's how they call it?): bro's Goku under pressure, the fact that he process stuff later, while he manages to take lead in battle or at least he HAD the hang of it like bro been ready for that moment -I think he's more of hyperactive kind of ADHD than inattentive, he seems to be really impulsive, easy to jump to conclusions, (assuming Giyuu's intentions, stabbing Nezuko and slashing his arm mindlessly to prove something, bro didn't think twice trying to bling genya) -sweets, need I say more really? -Sleep disturbances: like, sleeping problems(usually narcolepsy/insomnia or sleeping freestyle lol), look at bro's eyes, does it look like bro sleeps more than 3 hours a day -do you think he have PDA? -beetles! (hyperfixation? Ik special interests are exclusive to autism, so idk) -also ADHD bf x autistic bf (bc sanegiyuu/giyuusane is a must) -also dyslexia is mostly a heavy headcanon, but to thing the reason he can't read/write or at least write is because of it?(correct me if not true)

I thought it was an accepted belief in the fandom that most of the characters, especially the Pillars, are on the spectrum?! Your Sanemi ADHD headcanon makes a shit-ton of sense, and I love how you were able to use it as an explanation for his behavior and actions. Plus ADHD usually comes with depression and anxiety which Sanemi is also shown to have. SaneGiyuu is the ADHD X Autistic power couple combo we need!

the morning wake-up calls

Actually, I didn't try hard because of laziness, I'm a slacker (btw I didn't have enough strength for the background)

sanemi’s first reason to hate giyuu is that he’s so fucking pretty

like — after sanemi’s outburst in his first meeting, he’s a bit uneasy. he’s already regretting what he’d said to kagaya, and nearly all of the hashira have scolded him already. except one. sanemi’s curiosity gets the better of him and he tunes out tengen’s rant about how unflashy he was being, turning his attention to a single hashira on the far side of the garden. he’d been told beforehand about the hashira and it hadn’t been too hard to place which hashira was which without being told, so he assumes this loner is the water pillar. upon seeing sanemi’s ignorance, tengen stops, following his gaze.

“huh? — oh. tomioka? don’t bother talking to him. all of us have tried,” he says, waving it off, apparently unbothered by the lack of attention he’d been receiving.

tomioka? sanemi’s eyes trail down the pillar’s body. tomioka wears some unattractive haori — something something, a mesh of colors that look terrible with each other — and he has long, dark hair that rests against his back in a ponytail. seemingly sensing the sudden attention, tomioka turns. he catches onto sanemi’s gaze and something like confusion flashes across his expression for a second before its previous impassiveness takes over. but his eyes remain on sanemi. even from here, sanemi catches the piercing blue, somewhat fitting to the water hashira title. but his mind is far from that. in fact, his mind is far from everything, having short-circuited a moment ago. so it takes him a minute to place his stillness. but then five words register in his mind.

tomioka is so fucking pretty.

sanemi jolts from his stupor, jerking his head to turn back to tengen and kanae. one of the two ask him something, but their questions are lost from him. because: what the fuck. what the fuck did he just think.

his gaze flicks back to the isolated hashira, only to find that tomioka is still watching, something like inquiry in his eyes. this proves only to put sanemi in a worse state. in the next second, he’s pivoting away, heading to who knows where as he rushes away from the other hashira. someone — kanae — calls out to him, but he ignores it, allowing his bangs to slip over his face, hiding the red that tinges his cheeks. what the fuck.

KNY Fandom so fucking insufferable I'm gonna start behaving like those GiyuShino and SaneKana shippers and go around spreading misinformation and say "no you don't get it SaneGiyuu was implied!!!" /j

because I'd actually have more content to mention without even mischaracterizing them

wanna talk about how they're a two-faced mirror? almost as if they were written to parallel each other and there's so much to talk about on this matter

or, since not everyone in this Fandom can dive into analysis, wanna mention how Shinobu figured Sanemi could've made Giyuu smile by inviting him to eat his fav dish with him? why not ask him directly instead? why Sanemi out of all people?

wanna mention Sanemi's pseudo-obsession on that man? he disliked his ass, but if we go back to analysis, his intolerance to someone feeling superior can be tied to a multitude of factors and one of which is being low-key reminded of himself, and he loathes himself while at the same time he puts on that strong façade. he can't face it though. and he wanted to understand why Giyuu felt that way SO BADLY he went to him for training and tried to speak with him, he wanted a contact, he wanted to understand, he needed Giyuu to speak up but he didn't.

on the other hand don't we wanna talk about Giyuu's perspective? Giyuu never hated him nor did he really feel sad knowing he disliked him, contrary to how he felt towards Obanai. not to mention he even got to be sarcastic towards Sanemi's dumb ass at least twice.

and the iconic ohagi scene? idk about y'all but between the hashira I think that's THE iconic scene, alongside Giyuu and Shinobu beefing and Shinobu almost stabbing him (don't get me wrong platonic GiyuShino has my whole heart)

the first time we saw Giyuu smile in the series is while imagining to befriend Sanemi??? and out of everyone he chose Sanemi? the hashira who is canonically the most difficult to talk with?😭 he only ever smiled either for food, for Sanemi or Tanjiro

oh and let's not talk about how Tanjiro, after getting knocked up, wakes up and the first thing Giyuu says is "yeah Shinazugawa left" ..? or the whole novel chapter in which they end up talking about him (supposedly right after that scene in the manga) and Giyuu cheered up. what

anyways, likewise, the first time Sanemi was seen smiling genuinely outside of his family was with Giyuu. Obanai and especially Masachika were both closer to him, not to mention the most important person in his life, Genya...yet here we are ig?? (after Giyuu he also smiled more in general, the scene of him smiling at Nezuko was one of my fav panels ever so keep in mind I'm taking in consideration the chronological events and not the impact of the scenes per se)

or let's talk about the most important part in their development which is when they fought together.

Sanemi saving him, telling him not to zone out while throwing the sword at him, it made Giyuu realize he's the water hashira, it was the first time Giyuu acknowledged it. Sanemi influenced Giyuu's character positively, and so far Tanjiro was the only other one who managed to. Sanemi saw him as his ally (rightfully so), and hopefully seeing him fight also made him realize he wasn't that much of a conceited guy, he was just like him, as he initially wanted Giyuu to understand (despite the fact it was a miscommunication)

Sanemi teaming up with Giyuu out of everyone, in such an impactful panel.... idk, if it was a straight ship that would've felt like a confession for the Fandom 💀

they impacted each other's character, they were the only two hashira surviving after facing the same war, they faced similar struggles during their lives (but let's not get into analysis, once again...), they could've understood each other better than anyone else would ever have, and they ended up bonding and eating together

that panel was there, in the middle of other panels all portraying important bonds, whether canon romantic bonds or platonic and sibling-like ones (Tanjiro and Nezuko, the Kamaboko squad, the swordsmiths etc.)

if it wasn't important it wouldn't have been there, but the funniest thing is that if either of them was a woman it would've been considered canon since it also included TanKana, ZenNezu and InoAoi🙏🏻

but oh, if we try to name either of these things and more, people will rightfully say "can't they be friends anymore?", which is valid, but I wonder why this doesn't apply to equally fanon straight ships.

Unhinged theory

The Passion of Sanemi Shinazugawa

Sanemi has no chill.

We all been knew this. His chill is one of the things that the fandom has accepted canonically doesn't exist, like Inosuke's uniform shirt or Zenitsu's dating standards, but the reason for his lack of chill and generally aggressive behavior is still a much debated topic to this day.

I have made two posts here and here breaking down his backstory, his trauma and socio-economical circumstances that made him the man he is today but, I still wasn't satisfied. Something nagged me about this character and his personality that I couldn't put my finger on. So I pondered, for days going through each episode, rereading the manga taking note of his actions and interactions with other characters.

Then, it finally hit me.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe I've found the answer.

Sanemi, our sweet boy, is SEXUALLY FRUSTRATED.

Let me explain.

What is sexual frustration?

According to Medical News Today,

Sexual frustration describes a state of irritation, agitation, or stress resulting from sexual inactivity or dissatisfaction. Sexual frustration is a common, natural feeling, and it can affect anyone.

Some symptoms include:

Feeling irritable, restless, and edgy (so Sanemi's entire personality?)

Engaging in unhealthy coping skills (like wanting to brawl with another man for no reason and after having a sexually-charged training session 🤨)

I feel like Giyuu would be the first one to fall and this is because he's more in touch with his feelings than Sanemi. His fascination with Sanemi started after Sanemi's first Hashira meeting after he lashed out at Kagaya, the unrestrained display of emotions and his ability to express what he felt so clearly reminded him of Sabito, his first love. Then when he discovered that the source of Sanemi's anger was the death of his best friend/aniki Masachika, Giyuu felt a sense of solidarity. Sanemi on the other hand might be a bit weirded out by Giyuu because of his quiet nature and social awkwardness but after a few missions together he would begin to appreciate his strength of character, his skill, and straightforwardness, it also helps that Giyuu is pretty.

I fuck with Sanemi having internalized homophobia especially with his background growing up in the slums of the city where Westernization and Western values had already taken hold of the population and I'm sure he would have gotten flak for his feminine-looking face and his role as the second mom of the family, especially from Kyogo.

Speaking of, Kyogo would also be another reason Sanemi wouldn't want to act on his feelings because growing up as a gayby under the thumb of an abusive father (the first man in his life) would damage his future relationships with men. i think sanemi uses pet names a lot, unconsciously, and giyuu notices this and wants to reciprocate them so, like, he manages to squeeze on in and, like—

"giyuu?"

"yeah, babe??" (giyuu wonders if it's overkill)

sanemi freezes, turning to giyuu with comically slow movements. "huh?"

giyuu looks up, genuinely wondering what's wrong. "hm?"

"did you just-" sanemi stammers, his cheeks pink. "say that again."

"say what?"

"the. the word. you know."

"oh! babe?"

sanemi turns away and promptly knocks his head against the wall, making giyuu scurry over.

"what happened?? should i not?-"

"god, fuck, i love you," sanemi growls. he turns and suffocates giyuu with a hug, apparently too busy reveling in the term to care about either of their health.

"uhm, sanemi, i can't breathe."

"sorry." he releases him. goes back to hitting the wall with his head—or using the wall to hit his head. it's hard to tell what is being abused. (he is definitely going to do anything to make giyuu call him that again.)

// also giyuu, the dense bastard, only figures it out later that night. and then proceeds to take any chance to tease sanemi with the nicknames.

"love, can you get me that?"

"i'm sorry, darling."

"baby, im sick :(("

"honey? wanna go out tonight?"

Unhinged observation

The many voices of Sanemi

In Genya's flashback, one of the things people talked about was how unnaturally deep Sanemi's voice was, which by the way is not all that surprising. Sanemi is five years older than Genya and in the flashback Genya looks to be around 9/10 years old which puts Sanemi at 14/15 years old(Sanemi's just small for his age, probably due to malnutrition), and it's not uncommon for boys to have deep voices around that age.

But anyway, something I noticed is how Sanemi's voice changed when he told Genya to run as he tackled their mother out the window. His voice sounded like that of an actual kid. He probably deepened his voice to sound more like a father figure, so his siblings feel safe, but when they were put in actual danger the facade dropped and all we heard was the voice of a scared child.

We also see the same thing when the Ubuyashiki mansion exploded, I'm surprised no one is talking about Sanemi's small gasp after the mansion blew up. For just a fraction of a second he was back to being that small, scared and confused child he was when his mother attacked the family.

We also have the low, rough voice he uses with Tanjiro, Genya, Giyuu and the other junior slayers which is supposed to project this tough and scary image.

Then we have the low but somewhat normal voice that he uses when he talks to Obanai and Muichiro, as well as when he talks to the Master and Amane.

All this gets me excited for Soft Sanemi's voice that he will use when talking to his mom, Nezuko, Genya and when he talks to a dying Masachika (and probs Giyuu).
