Helaena and Jaehaera Aesthetic
Just saw someone call Alicent a âpick meâ that still didnât get picked.
Iâm sorry this is a medieval fantasy show. She lives in a a misogynistic society. She didnât want to be âpickedâ, she was just living the life that society expected of her.
Does she still have misogynistic views? Yes, but thatâs because of the world that she lives in. Sheâs certainly not the only one with misogynistic views, but I guess itâs just easy to attack a woman instead of the system that she lives in.
As a young girl, she was forced to marry a much older man and was then raped by him (yes marital rape is still rape) and was laughed at by him, even though she did what was expected of her - having sons.
She did what she was expected of her.
Otto telling her that Rhaenyra will kill her children, is not an unreasonable assumption to make. Rhaenyra is a woman in a misogynistic society and now she has half brothers. She (Rhae) might not want to kill her brothers but she might have to + someone else from her side might take it upon themselves to kill them.
Alicent also felt betrayed by Rhaenyra and then Rhaenyra has bastard children. Itâs not unreasonable to assume that Rhaenyra (or anyone supporting her claim) would get rid of any opposition to ensure her ascent to the throne and her child (Jace). Again, Rhaenyra might not want to do it, but she might have to.
Alicent wanting to protect her children is not an unreasonable thing, in the same way that Rhaenyra wanting to protect hers isnât unreasonable either.
Alicent is not a âpick me that still didnât get pickedâ, sheâs a woman who lives in a highly misogynistic society that did what she thought was best for her and her children.
She never cared about being âpickedâ, she lived her life the way that society expected her to because she saw no other way. And sheâs certainly not the first or last woman to do so.
One thing that I donât really understand is when Alicent/Rhaenyra stans act like the other is entirely responsible for the Dance.
Okay, both definitely led towards it, but neither is entirely responsible. There were so many different elements that led towards it, and if people wish to discuss how Rhaenyra or Alicent played a part in it, thatâs fine, but letâs not act like one of them is entirely to blame.
As irresponsible as it was of Rhaenyra having obvious bastards in a place where bastards were not accepted and trying to pass them off as true born, Harwin was also to blame.
Like seriously? You are having an affair with the heir and you see that the first child you have together looks like you instead of her, and donât do anything about it?
I agree that Rhaenyra put her children in a dangerous position, BUT SO DID HARWIN.
In Rhaenyraâs defence she was raised with the idea that Targaryenâs are just different, not all of the rules apply to them, like the Doctrine Of Exceptionalism. Also, Rhaenyra was named heir, a very powerful position.
I wouldnât be surprised if she thought that the rules didnât apply to her.
But whatâs Harwinâs defence?
Honestly, I didnât really like Harwinâs character and I still donât. And this is partly why.
I donât know how much of this is to blamed for the show just rushing through the first season and how much of this is just Harwin being Harwin.
But I kind of think this is just Harwin being Harwin, mainly because of that scene where Criston provokes him and Harwin attacks him. Like yeah Criston provokes him, but he shouldnât react. Like you and Rhaenyra placed your children in such a position where people know that theyâre bastards and you didnât do this once, you did this three times. The least you could do is ignore people provoking you.
*Young Rhaenicent*
Alicent: Hey, are you okay?
Rhaenyra: Yeah, why?
Alicent: Itâs just that when we were flying on Syrax you didnât point and say âcowsâ when you saw them
Alicent: Aemond could you read Jaehaera a bedtime story? I need to help Helaena with Maelor.
Aemond: Sure, I can do that.
*some time later*
Alicent: *walks into Jaehaeraâs bedroom* Awwww, she looks so cute when sheâs sl- Aemond⊠What book are you holding?
Aemond: Itâs my favourite, âThe Art Of Warâ by Sun Tzu. I think Jaehaera like itâs too now.
Honestly though imagine being one of the High Lords and having to deal with Rhysand.
No accountability. No genuine sorry. Infuriating to listen to.
But you donât have just him. You also have the IC. Like those people are not diplomatic at all and just do whatever they want.
Rhysand said smoothly, âIâm not entirely sure Velaris is prepared for Nesta Archeron.â
âMy sisters not some feral animal,â I snapped.
ACOWAR, page 171
I wish the ACOTAR series focused more on the sisters and had them defend each other, like here.
Instead in silver flame, Nesta is forced to be in a house that she canât leave with a man that she doesnât want to be around.
Everyday I hope SJM proves me wrong and reveals that the IC are bad people and that their bad actions were done on purpose.
It wonât erase the other criticisms that I have of ACOTAR, but it will erase one of my main ones.
The way Tamlin antis apply every negative thing they can to him is honestly laughable now. They donât read the text, they just say âremember when Tamlin did *insert thing that he never did or would do*?â and everyone just claps along and repeats it over and over. And when they called out by someone whoâs actually read the books, they get angry and resort to verbal abuse or if theyâre feeling it, wishing death or other physical abuse (for those that havenât seen it, Iâve seen it all and yes they do in fact wish terrible physical things against people).
I once saw someone say that ACOTAR stans apply terrible things that their ex boyfriend did to them onto Tamlin, and when I saw that post, it all clicked. Instead of seeing Feyre and Tamlin as characters, the stans saw themselves as Feyre and their ex as Tamlin. So when they say something like âremember when Tamlin fat shamed Feyre into not eating after UTM and thatâs why she was starving?â, thatâs not something that Tamlin did, thatâs their ex. Because Tamlin didnât do that, did he? And as horrible as going through that must have been as EDâs are no joke, we canât say that a character did something just because your ex did it to you. (I remember that this was a huge thing that they kept saying like 3 years ago and I still see it occasionally).
However, this doesnât apply to every ACOTAR stan. I think the rest of them just really are just too into Rhysand. I mean if Tamlin was that bad, then surely they wouldnât have to make up things about him to prove how bad he is, wouldnât they? But no, they have to raise up Rhysand, by making up things about Tamlin.
I couldnât resist and had to also make an edit to this song
All of the pictures are from Pinterest
I have a feeling you got everything you wanted
Feyre becoming High Lady of the NC
And youâre not wasting time stuck here like me
Tamlin being alone in the destroyed Spring Court
Youâre just thinking itâs a small thing that happened
Her turning everyone against him by manipulation, destroying his court and thousands of his people dying and she refuses to take any accountability
The world ended when it happened to me
On my hands and knees begging Tamlin/Nesta haters to just PLEASE read the books and not make up random stuff
I still think Coach Scott is alive!!!!
(Please let me drown in my delusion)
Most team black stans were never going to like Alicent. I mean they didnât even like her when she was a teen, so having her betray Aegon for Rhaenyra was never going to change their opinion.
Now, I said that team black stans were never going to like Alicent, which is true, but that doesnât mean that they wouldnât have understood her, but now? Now sheâs a mother who put her son onto the throne, goes back to her ex friend from like 20 years ago, and sentences most of the people that care for her (Aegon, Aemond, Criston) to death.
The appeal of season 1 Alicent was her devotion to her children and taking away that ruins her. It makes her decisions in season 2 selfish.
Aegon didnât want to be on the throne, but Alicent forced him to be king. She then insulted him when he was king instead of trying to guide him. Alicent in season 1 was on the small council and was basically ruling the 7 kingdoms. Remember âbut itâs not a king who sits the Iron Throne these days good sister, itâs a queenâ?
Aegon is close with his mother. âI want my motherâ in season 1, despite her slapping him the previous day. âMummyâ in season 2. âWhat would you have me do?â In season 2, clearly valuing his motherâs opinion, and before this he was ranting about how nobody cares about what he has to say.
Itâs clear that HOTD is pushing for Alicent to be closest with Helaena (donât even get me started on how wasted of a character Helaena is). And I think it comes of as so unnatural because of how ignored Helaena is. Helaena barely gets any screen time and a large amount of it is with Alicent.
Her relationship with Aemond is⊠odd. I loved their relationship in season 1. In season 2 it feels like HOTD wants to villainise Aemond as much as possible and it comes off as ridiculous at certain points.
We donât even see Alicent find out about Lukeâs death. It could have been such a great scene. Anger because she knows whatâs to come, but also maybe some happiness as she wanted Luke to be punished. After Driftmark Alicent does regret her outburst, but are you telling me that over the years she never wanted some kind of revenge? Not even passing thoughts. She could obviously feel guilty for it but these thoughts would still be there. After all, Aemond was her baby, who was harmed and had no justice, not even a âsorryâ.
The point that Iâm trying to make is that removing Alicentâs desire to protect her children and do anything to protect them (*cough cough* anyone remember âone day you will be our kingâ and Ottoâs âRhaenyra will kill your childrenâ?) and making her character revolve around Rhaenyra, pushes away team greens, Alicent lovers and even TBâs who enjoy her character but donât necessarily like her as a person.
So are Aemond and Criston going to be the only ones actually fighting for the greens in season 3?
Someone please get the book greens out of HBOâs basement
Canât wait to see book Alicent in season 3! đ
(Please let me be delusional)
I like to joke about how the ACOTAR stans donât read the books but then I see the posts that they make and then Iâm convinced that they genuinely do not read the books.
Saw a post that said âFeyre died for a man that did nothing to save herâ, talking about Tamlin.
He sent her away to the human world and she came back without his knowledge as he was UTM. She made a deal with Amarantha. He canât break the deal. And he couldnât show that he cares for Feyre, which is stated by both Feyre and Rhysand.
Like Iâm sorry but this isnât some unknown knowledge, itâs in the book.
âIf they want a villain for a queen,
I'm gonna be one like they've never seenâ
