16 year old me read the ACOTAR series fully expecting to love Rhysand and I just didn’t. I came out hating him and feeling lied to.

Lately I’ve seen a lot of ACOTAR stans say that the only reason why ACOTAR isn’t seen as a good fantasy series is because of misogyny.

I’m sorry but if you genuinely believe this then I don’t think we’ve read the same series. Not to stay that there aren’t people who don’t just hate ACOTAR because the author is a woman, but that is certainly not most people.

And let’s not pretend that that majority of people who read ACOTAR don’t love it. They also get very aggressive when you display any type of dislike towards it. Rape threats, death threats, harm threats in general, insults, slurs is what you can expect if you express any type of negative feelings towards ACOTAR. (Obviously not every ACOTAR stan is like this but the loudest ones are like this and there’s a lot of them).

Even in real life I’ve been insulted because I don’t think ACOTAR is the best series ever and I don’t love Rhysand.

ACOTAR’s world building is messy. A lot of the characters are inconsistent. The narrative portrays certain characters as being good despite their actions not matching up, which doesn’t always mean that the writing is bad, it can be done on purpose. However, the characters “goodness” is never challenged and if it is it’s by characters that you are not supposed to like, so it’s not taken seriously. There’s a lot of retcon. The magic system isn’t really explained. Why does magic only choose men? Why does Feyre have so much magic if the High Lords only gave a drop of power to her?

The point is, there’s a lot of reasons why people dislike ACOTAR and misogyny isn’t the only reason.

NO BECAUSE THIS IS HIS SON THAT HE COULDN’T PROTECT. HE WAS THERE FOR AEGON BUT COULDN’T PROTECT HIM BECAUSE WHAT PERSON CAN STOP THE DRAGONS FROM DANCING WHEN THE SOUND OF WAR DRUMS FILL THEIR EARS.

Modern HOTD AU where Alicent tries to kill her rich husband Viserys, but every murder attempt fails in a comical way

Locks him outside the house in the middle of winter - Viserys thinks she’s just asleep and goes into his shed and goes back into loving his hobbies. After this, he’s very grateful that she was asleep which forced him to seek shelter in his shed and find his old things. He often tells this story at holidays, birthdays and any event.

Trips him down the stairs - Daemon is actually going up the stairs and catches his brother. Due to this, Viserys and Daemon start going to the gym together as they think it happened because of Viserys’ health. The brothers are now even closer than before.

Alicent gets sick of it, so after a night out with her friends, she comes back drunk and pulls out her gun to shoot Viserys. She misses and hits an assassin that was hired to kill Viserys. Viserys is extremely grateful to his wife.

Alicent, who has to deal with this at least 4 times a day: *sighs* Of course sweetie. Any particular reason you want to look pretty today?
