today's topic: Escape the Night

EtN makes me mad sometimes. Not because it's about murder or my favorite characters die or something. It's because the characters are all content to be led like lambs to slaughter.

like, don't give me terrified lambs who can't handle themselves under pressure. I know these are YouTubers, they aren't trained fighters or aggressive people, but some of them have to have the fight response. don't give me rabbits who run from wolves, give me the wolves!

give me MatPat, utterly pissed that Joey was willing to trade nine peoples' lives for his own one life. give me Matt Haag, who fought with everyone until he gave up. give me Colleen, who blamed Joey for everything until her untimely death by force. give me Liza and Tyler, trying so hard to win for the both of them until they where cheated out of their victory. give me Brettman, who took no one's shit and celebrated his own victories. give me DeStorm, making no apologies for the way he chose to win.

I don't want little lambs content to die, I want fighters clawing their way to victory. if I'm to be hunted like an animal, I don't think I'd allow myself to be pulled down. you're playing with a new set of rules, ones that change with each challenge, should your key focus not be bickering and fighting, but survival?

give me people who survived and tore up their invitations. give me people who are furious with the person who invited them. give me people willing to do what it takes to win and survive. give me people who are the wolves, who'd just as soon turn the killers' weapons on them.

give me the Survivors being horrified and furious at Joey for the things they'd seen and been invited into.

It’s been a few months since Empires s2 came to an end and I wanted to make a piece reflecting on the time we spent with these characters 🥰✨ When season 1 ended I did a series of paintings set to the End Poem, and so I decided to revisit the concept once again, making sure to switch up which line corresponded to which person. This series means a lot to me—in fact, this is one of two big Empires s2 projects I’ve been working on! There’s another one still in the works :D

I challenge! I've been thinking about this for quite some time, (you just gave me reason to write it all.) While I generally like what you put, I believe wholeheartedly that she would be a sorcerer. (Perhaps even unaware of her internal magic.) Because:

You decide to become a wizard in DND; while Shelby was born, and destined, for magic. That is clearly not the case for the other witches: while WC Joey was born with magic, WC Scott, Lauren, and Prismarina all definitely weren't. (I'm unclear about the others. But the term of "witch" seems to be incredibly loose.) So, Shelby was born with magic, yet still went to a school for witches, and that is all fine and good. HOWEVER, she was a horrible student, making mistakes and etcetera. She is clearly dedicated to the craft, yet she keeps failing. What if she wasn't being taught for her class of magic? And later on, she was able to open a multi-dimensional rift *on accident*. That is someone with substantial raw power. Warlock is out of the question, except when she was possessed by sculk. It gave her power, which is the whole identity of a warlock. But she already had power, she just seemed to have gotten better control over it, seemingly increasing what she already had. ANYWAYS, she also had a vision at one point, if I remember correctly, of the gnomes when she discovered the heart of the Evermoore and the portal there: more of a sorcerer trait. "The fog claims souls and those who go in there are don't come back out", well maybe the fog kept her alive because it sensed her magic. Maybe the sculk couldn't claim her as fast as it claimed Cub because of her internal magic trying to fight it. Or maybe that's why she still had some control and was able to feel the pain of the voices instead of being completely numb like promised. There are probably other things I'm missing... Oh well.

So, based on the information I gathered and remember, I'd say that Great Witch Shelby is a sorcerer, behaving as if she is a wizard.

Ever think about the fact that when we last saw the two, Katherine had no idea on how Shelby was actually cure of the skulk. She didn’t know everything with the witch academy, the voices screaming in Shelby’s head, the spirits in the fog. She didn’t know that Shelby died.

I don't see enough posts on how nature wives must be viewed in-universe between the empires and the witches. Like, it's one thing to hear that your classmate Shelby the slacker who sleeps through class and switched dimensions on accident is dating someone. BUT THEN THAT SOMEONE TURNS OUT TO BE MOTHER-FUCKING ROYALTY?? At first people think "No, it's not possible, Shelby's just calling her a queen and people took it out of context". But then Shelby starts living up that Trophy Wife Lifestyle™ and all of a sudden her normally torn-up uniform is pristine and it's made of super soft and expensive materials. Her potion stand looks brand-new and so do all of her mixing and grinding tools. And now she's wearing new jewelry that the elemental witches swear is real, which makes no sense because it's made of diamonds and netherite. There are bets being placed and arguments of whether or not the rumors are true. the leading theory is she's dating a noble, not royalty but still filthy rich. Even teachers are curious and heated debates go long into the night. And then graduation comes up and everyone gets really quiet because holy fuck all 11 rulers have shown up. And when asked they simply say "well we aren't missing Shelby's graduation, she is our favorite witch after all" and the whole school blows up, because now it's not a question of IF she's dating a ruler but WHICH ruler. And it gets answered really quickly because after the ceremony Queen Katherine of Glimmer Grove proposes to Shelby. And Headmaster Nowls rolls in his grave. BUT IN THE EMPIRES? Glimmer Grove citizen: Did you hear Queen Katherine is marrying The Great Witch Shelby? Chromia: citizen: Oh yeah they're such a cute couple i hear all the empires are getting invited! Sanctuary Citizen: I heard that the theme is nature!

That's definitely how I see it. Since Scott left it all behind, that makes her the most powerful witch!

i will forever say that shelby should have become supreme witch. i truly believe that with all the powers, she would have helped every other person. the reasoning is that she is just a genuinely good person, but she has also experienced all the struggles that the other witches have gone through. remembering that witchcraft shelby is just an older esmp s2 shelby.

she has experienced still wanting to go back to the people who rejected her (joey), having corruption ruin your romatic relationship (pris), sent away to protect nature (tiff), very personal experiences with death (scott), wanting a place to call her home (el), everyone not taking her seriously (lauren), and having voices haunt her (cleo)

also, it would have just made such a satisfying ending to the start of her esmp s2 character where she was kicked out of the witches academy only to become supreme witch

question for empires enjoyers: i had written out an entire dialogue between great witch shelby and headmaster nowls because i had planned for them to have a confrontation. obviously that’s not how things went in the end. but would you be interested in seeing what the dialogue was?

So like tell me Shelby wouldn't look at this small, sad orphan child and just...take her home?! like Shelby: *after just getting home, standing awkwardly in the doorway* Uh hi Katherine i didn't win but i came second place, by the way how do you feel about having kids? Katherine: Shelby, tell me you didn't kidnap a child The sad, pathetic, feral wet-cat known as Prismarina: i came willingly and i am NOT a child! Katherine: *already thinking of where to get adoption papers* of course you aren't, now come inside and get warm.

Do you ever think about how much wc!Shelby means to wc!Pris?

Do you ever think about how panicked Pris gets when Shelby’s in danger? The way Pris showers Shelby in gifts, gets her whatever she needs? How in the depths of the dungeon, fighting for her life, she finds the Stormcaller and takes the time to grab it because she knows Shelby has been trying to make one, even though taking the time to do so could cost her her life? Running through the dungeon, terrified and calling out for Shelby? The way Pris throws herself headfirst into danger if Shelby’s in trouble? How Pris literally threw herself off a cliff because she knew what this trial could make her do and the act of throwing herself off a cliff and sabotaging herself was more bearable to her than hurting Shelby, even with how much being supreme witch matters to her? Actively fighting the demon to cheer Shelby on and make sure Shelby knows she’s proud of her? The way she reaches out for Shelby whenever she’s afraid?

How in the latest episode, Pris learns that Shelby’s trying to make another sword and immediately offers whatever she has? The way she finds herself lonely and resolves this by finding Shelby? How Pris’ mild alarm at being attacked by endermen turns to sheer terror once they start going for Shelby? Her panicked apologies when she accidentally hits Shelby because everyone else reacts terribly when she does anything like that and she can’t lose Shelby too? Her utter terror when Shelby catches on fire? Her panicked screaming when she realizes Shelby can’t breathe? The meek little “Shelby?” When Shelby’s jumped into water and Pris doesn’t know if she’s alright or not?

The parallel between how Pris regards Shelby and the old supreme witch? “She saved my life”, “Shelby actually saved my life from a demon”? How Pris lost the supreme witch, she absolutely refuses to lose Shelby too?

wait i just realised that since wc!shelby is e!shelby, that means she would have like. the weirdest perspective on everyone else because she’s experienced pretty much the same things as half the other contestants

Getting possessed by a malevolent entity that makes her yell at her crush? check Effectively cast out of her home due to something with her magic? slightly different circumstances but check Dealing with a weird corruption thing that grows as she gets stronger? check Having a ton of voices in her head at once? definitely not to the same extent as cleo but check
