Day 14
Quite under tempo, this is an excerpt from the ending of Innocent Meandering by Harold Blanchard.

Recording two variations today. It is challenging enough to make a recording of one variation that qualifies as blog-worthy. Even then, you take what you can get sometimes when you’re blogging about everyday practice, on a daily basis.
It is more intimidating to record anything than it is to just play it by yourself. I’m just practicing going from one variation to the next here, with the added stressor of having the camera rolling. I can tell the nerves are there, but the transition wasn’t a as bad as it could be.
40
Another way of playing this variation with mainly slurs. Less right hand involvement. It makes the variation a lot more slurry, but it is smoother than some other solutions I’ve tried. Still needs much improvement, but it’s getting better at least.
45
Probably should have kept playing past the moment that the Shih Tzu ‘Abby’ brushed up against me, but it kinda tickled. Hehe. I’m dog-sitting some adorable pups.
59
Today’s uploading is of two recordings I made of the second variation from Carnaval. I noticed my slurs could have more of a triplet feel, so I tried to add that to my performance. I need to clean the ending up.
53
Feeling better about this excerpt of the piece here.
27
Working on memory here. Pavan no 3 by Milan. I have all the notes in my head, but I sometimes skip a section or do a wonky repeat at times. Memory has been a challenge this past year. I suspect it has to do with the extremely slow recovery post hurricane Michael.
15
This is the Danza from Julian Orbon’s Preludio y Danza. I like that my ‘a’ finger stays at the back of the design for much of the clip.
I’m participating in the 4th Florida Guitar Festival and Competition this weekend. I’m playing in the recreational round. I’ve never heard of a recreational round before this. I LOVE the idea.
80
Working on adding some slurs to this passacaglia by Rodrigo.
In the background are things piled up that have no place to go because my home is still being worked on 13 months after the hurricane hit ya.
13
Finally feeling better. That’s cold I had kept me capped out for a couple of days.
I’m playing along with a recording my former teacher (Dr Stephen Robinson) playing Innocent Meandering by Harold Blanchard. I’m doing this to get a better understanding of phrasing and using rubato in the piece. Also, the tempo is quite different in the recording from that that is suggested in the score.
This dead skin was catching on my slurs when I was playing today. I need to watch out so I can notice this kind of problem earlier and do something about it. Never really had it catch like that before.
