Haven’t had much time to practice or post videos. People are finally starting to show up to work on my house to do repairs caused by Hurricane Michael back in October of 2018z However, rats are starting to invade my life and I’ve had to devote some time to pest control and keeping my two two dogs safe. I also have to help out with working on the house.

This is an excerpt from the Passacaglia from Rodrigo’s Tres Piezas Españolas. I’ll post and say more about this later.

An excerpt from a piece by Tarrega.

Not pleased with this. I think my discontent has to do with...not being able to start practicing until after I was quite tired today. That tends to happen very often.

Feeling better about this excerpt of the piece here.

I haven’t had a lot of time to post videos, so I missed a day or two this weekend. We’ve been having a great time at the Florida Guitar Festival here at FSU.

I’m a recent I mentioned that I was having problems with my p,i,m triplets. After going over with this with my teacher, and talking to another teacher about it today, I am finally beginning to be more pleased with this right hand movement.

What I learned today was that I often play this triplet as if it’s a roll. It was pointed out that I often “roll” my hand to make this triplet as if I were arpeggiating a chord. I was told bring the left side of my nails closer to the string and let the middle and index finger snap away from the strings instead of using my hand to pull them away, then reach for the strings again.

What I need to do is keep my wrist in a single location and allow the fingers to snap away and land them back on the strings without making a large wrist movement. As I have also started earlier, I tend to play towards the middle side of the nail instead of the left side. Playing on the left side of the nail seems to allow for small right hand movements.

In this video I demonstrate ways that I believe is a better way to perform these triplets. When I do not play them properly, I shake my finger to point out that the movements were improper.

I have faith that if I keep practicing the triplets this way, my technique will improve tremendously.

Final variation on Milan’s sixth pavan by Joaquin Nin-Culmell.

I’m less than half pleased with this recording, but, given the duties I have taken on lately, that’s all I had time for today.

Enjoy my suffering. Lol

I’ve been worried about school everyday since my home was hit by Hurricane Michael last October. I had hoped to graduate in May, back before the storm hit. It’s over a year now and I’m still living in a travel trailer. There have been many hurricane-recovery-related tasks that have greatly interfered with my practice and studies in school. I’m even more worried now.

Anyway, I’m doing some slow practice here in this video. Beginning to commit the piece to memory. It’s easy to find where I have trouble with memory here (jolts in the performance). I have taken note of these instances and will work them out.

Aerial photos show the devastation left in the path of Hurricane Michael

Florida’s Panhandle took stock on Thursday of the hammering destruction wrought by Hurricane Michael, with homes obliterated or reduced to rubble and power lines and trees ripped up by the third most powerful storm ever to strike the U.S. mainland.

I felt that this was better than yesterday’s recording. Improvement, I guess.

I know the melody needs to be more legato. Especially in the consecutive eighth note parts.

I need to put slurs to this. However, I also want to keep practicing it without slurs because it is a great exercise for the right hand.

Back to work on Milan’s Pavan No. 2.

Trying to do my dynamic contrasts as opposed to the contrast with tone color that I was working on in last night’s video.

*Not related to the piece*

I am staying in a hotel and got my first ever noise complaint! Thankfully, there is a nice lady who works at the reception desk was very helpful. She allowed me to move to a different room so that I could practice. How great!
