Back to work on Milan’s Pavan No. 2.

Trying to do my dynamic contrasts as opposed to the contrast with tone color that I was working on in last night’s video.

*Not related to the piece*

I am staying in a hotel and got my first ever noise complaint! Thankfully, there is a nice lady who works at the reception desk was very helpful. She allowed me to move to a different room so that I could practice. How great!

Feeling better about this variation tonight. I think one of my problems last night was the strings were old. My nails were in bad shape too. I changed my nails today and feel better about my tone from them as well.

Day 10

Variation 4 from Joaquin Nin-Culmell’s Variations on a Theme by Milan.

It was recently brought to my attention how much a fan can interfere with acoustical sounds. I had to do numerous takes to get this variation ready to share. I believe the fan had a bit to do with this. Notes sounded overdone, or they would crescendo on their own. It was weird.

I doubt I’ll make another recording with a fan (even though it helps cool you off tremendously with these record breaking temperatures).

Just Wanted To Document The Cracks In These Nails. I Just Put Them On Yesterday, And They’re Already

Just wanted to document the cracks in these nails. I just put them on yesterday, and they’re already cracking. They will eventually cause a bad tone.

There are many factors that could cause the cracking. I do a lot of work with my hands even when not playing the guitar. I also probably wash them too much. However, I still believe these nails crack really really fast.

My nails and strings aren’t in great shape. Might even post a picture of the cracks in my nails. Cracks cause you to play with a very scratchy tone.

This is the excerpt I promised myself I would make a recording of in yesterday’s post. This is where the Preludio and the Danza blend together. ‘Attacca’ is the musical direction.

With these lighter strings, I tend to feel that my guitar is tuned kinda low. Although, I know they are turned to 440.

This the beginning of Tarrega’s ¡Sueño! tremolo. It’s very hard to play up to tempo, and make sure the first chords are clean. These things I wish to V improve upon. I’m not Halen with tempo or clarity of chords here.

The Storm After the Storm

My life has completely changed. I used to wonder around the Internet for a few hours a day reblogging funny things, working, and my various hobbies.

Now I feel like I am living in the Capitol Wasteland of the Fallout universe.

Do not think people that our lives have gone on. This is the view from my driveway yesterday.

The Storm After The Storm

My place of employment has been destroyed, been working there since 2009. It was a small private dental office. Its gone. I was the primary income provider. I now collect $275 in unemployment. There are no jobs in my field for over 100 miles. It will take years before this area is even remotely economically where it was pre-Hurricane Michael.

We built our home in 2012. We have to sell our house in this wasteland before February because that is when the mortgage temporary hold is up. We got a hold on our utilities but health/car insurance, credit cards, and other non-house bills will not hold any payments. FEMA and D-SNAP is a joke.

My daughter turned 18 on 10/19, but is 2 years behind in school. She was on her way to getting her diploma but now she has to get her GED because its faster - she refuses to relocate with us. Oh yeah, we are relocating. Out of state. The economy in the panhandle of Florida is dead. We are moving to Denver CO because my wife, other adult household members, and I can get better paying jobs out there. It is also somewhere we always wanted to move to but not like this.

I am rebuilding from here but my life is forever changed. And I am one of the lucky ones. My house or cars sustained no damage. Some members of my household is able to return to work to hold us over until we relocate.

Please do not forget about us. The rest of the world is joking about the Trump umbrella thing but we are still in mourning. As I drive around in town there are more downed trees than standing trees. Blue tarps cover the majority of roofs. Many houses still have trees crashes through the living room.

This will take years for my home to recover. I cannot stay. Goodbye Panama City, I hope you can heal from this diaster. There are good people here who want to rebuild. I just cannot be one of them.

This is an excerpt from Pavan No 1 by Luis Milan. In this video I stop at a scale that I am debating on whether to play with or without slurs. I think I like it with the slurs.

These get hard after you practice them for several minutes.
