Strings are old. Nails also need to be changed. I have no thumb nail.

This is the hardest variation. I put quite a bit of time into it before recording it this evening. It’s hard.

Finally feeling better. That’s cold I had kept me capped out for a couple of days.

I’m playing along with a recording my former teacher (Dr Stephen Robinson) playing Innocent Meandering by Harold Blanchard. I’m doing this to get a better understanding of phrasing and using rubato in the piece. Also, the tempo is quite different in the recording from that that is suggested in the score.

Patching this minuetto by Francisco Tárrega. Says to play the entire piece with pizz. It’s so tempting to play normally.

Day 8

Decided to post a little slower version of Llobet’s 5th Variation on a Theme by Sor.

The right hand technique here is something I have been struggling with. The idea seems simple: you pluck one string twice, and another string once. Then repeat the pattern which result in a nice triplet. However, I have trouble making it sound clean and rhythmically clear. It’s frustrating to have trouble with such a simple concept.

I’m also usually better at playing harmonics. I have a suspicion that this set of strings is quasi faulty when it comes to playing artificial harmonics (and I long considered not even commenting on this).

The pizzicato variation that comes after this one gave me a lot of trouble today. Gotta fix that.

Working on adding some slurs to this passacaglia by Rodrigo.

In the background are things piled up that have no place to go because my home is still being worked on 13 months after the hurricane hit ya.

This lefthand slur warm-up really helps me navigate the fretboard. My slurs get a little too trill-y sometimes.

Changed my strings and cleaned my fretboard with mineral oil today. Not pleased with this performance, but I have to move on to other pieces.

Had a lot of trouble with squeaking and intonation today. It rained a little while ago.

I am trying not to jinx myself on my upcoming recital. However, I am worried.

This is Pavan no 6 by Luis Milan.

Starting this variation has been one of the hardest things. P and I on the same string is the hardest thing about, so I’ve experimented with just playing with P alone, and sometimes just P and I, with no A finger.
