Two videos today. I wasn’t pleased with playing the theme and variation in one take. I’ll try it again with new strings when they come in soon. The strings I am using are old.
65. Minuetto by Tarrega
This is my first time recording this minuetto in its entirety. It feels similar to playing the piece in front of someone for the first time.
I think my phrasing of the first theme sounded better in the opening than it did in the recapitulation.

Gonna try to make better recording of this variation tomorrow.
It’s been a year since I my home was severely damaged by Hurricane Michael. I have been completely moved out of my home for five months not. It took six months for work to begin on the house.
Anyway, two weeks before I was completely moved out of my home, I had tried to begin the “100 days of practice” challenge that some people have done on the Internet. They post a video of what they’re working for 100 days. I’ve seen some people skip a day or two and pick it back up , but not near as long a break as I had after I moved completely out of my home. So, I’m going to try something similar now that I am practicing more. I have a concert in 83 days. I hope to find time to post a video most everyday between now and then. If I make a goal of 100 days, this will keep me inspired to work hard even the day after my recital and so on. I hope to do better with it this time.
In this video, I am playing an excerpt from a caprice by Luigi Legnani.

In this video I am addressing a left hand problem I have been having. I have to play a three note slur, followed by three plucked notes, all while holding down a note a in the lower voice in the fourth position (c#). This passage is impossible without applying a barre. The problem was: when do I put the barre down?
In order to prevent ringing while playing the slurred notes, I decided that I should wait until the slurred notes have been played, then put the barre down when I play the three plucked notes.
Now, I am playing the slurred notes too fast, but I was focusing on when to put the barre down in this mini practice session. I will play them all evenly now that I know where I should place the barre.

Starting this variation has been one of the hardest things. P and I on the same string is the hardest thing about, so I’ve experimented with just playing with P alone, and sometimes just P and I, with no A finger.

The pizzicato variation that comes after this one gave me a lot of trouble today. Gotta fix that.

Working on an unusual right hand pattern. Thumb, ring finger, pinky.

This the beginning of Tarrega’s ¡Sueño! tremolo. It’s very hard to play up to tempo, and make sure the first chords are clean. These things I wish to V improve upon. I’m not Halen with tempo or clarity of chords here.

Another challenging variation. Need to be more clear with what voice I’m bringing out. Also clicking. It’s a hard variation.
