65. Minuetto By Tarrega

65. Minuetto by Tarrega

This is my first time recording this minuetto in its entirety. It feels similar to playing the piece in front of someone for the first time.

I think my phrasing of the first theme sounded better in the opening than it did in the recapitulation.

Haven’t had much time to practice or post videos. People are finally starting to show up to work on my house to do repairs caused by Hurricane Michael back in October of 2018z However, rats are starting to invade my life and I’ve had to devote some time to pest control and keeping my two two dogs safe. I also have to help out with working on the house.

This is an excerpt from the Passacaglia from Rodrigo’s Tres Piezas Españolas. I’ll post and say more about this later.

Final variation on Milan’s sixth pavan by Joaquin Nin-Culmell.

I’m less than half pleased with this recording, but, given the duties I have taken on lately, that’s all I had time for today.

Enjoy my suffering. Lol

Changed my strings and cleaned my fretboard with mineral oil today. Not pleased with this performance, but I have to move on to other pieces.

Had a lot of trouble with squeaking and intonation today. It rained a little while ago.

The Darkness that Followed Hurricane Michael

Earlier this month, the southeastern United States was struck by Hurricane Michael. After the category 4 storm made landfall on Oct. 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael proceeded to knock out power for at least 2.5 million customers across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia.

In this data visualization, you can clearly see where the lights were taken out in Panama City, Florida. A team of our scientists from Goddard Space Flight Center processed and corrected the raw data to filter out stray light from the Moon, fires, airglow, and any other sources that are not electric lights. They also removed atmosphere interference from dust, haze, and clouds.

In the visualization above, you can see a natural view of the night lights—and a step of the filtering process in an effort to clean up some of the cloud cover. The line through the middle is the path Hurricane Michael took.

Although the damage was severe, tens of thousands of electric power industry workers from all over the country—and even Canada—worked together to restore power to the affected areas. Most of the power was restored by Oct. 15, but some people still need to wait a little longer for the power grids to be rebuilt. Read more here.

Two videos today. I wasn’t pleased with playing the theme and variation in one take. I’ll try it again with new strings when they come in soon. The strings I am using are old.

Changing things up a bit. In my late twenties I discovered a great love for film music. In particular I found that music written for horror movies was something that I liked the most. I am playing along with film music written by the great Harry Manfredini.

It’s very important to play along with recordings by ear. I have never seen the score for this film music. This is an purely an aural exercise for me.

Don’t have much to much to about my playing here. But, I did play the A section and the B section. That’s pretty much all I have here.

Aerial photos show the devastation left in the path of Hurricane Michael

Florida’s Panhandle took stock on Thursday of the hammering destruction wrought by Hurricane Michael, with homes obliterated or reduced to rubble and power lines and trees ripped up by the third most powerful storm ever to strike the U.S. mainland.
