AND FOR MY BOON-
the epic highs (honor is dead but i'll see what i can do) and lows (and for my boon) of high school football (kaladin stormblessed in a duel)
Okay but, when Shallan hands Kaladin the shardblade in the chasms
(spoilers for Rhythm of War under the cut)
Which blade does she give him?
Its not screaming but that doesn't mean it's not Testament, because Syl was gone at that point so it would not have screamed for Kaladin.
Remember how we all thought getting a blade early was a Lightweaver thing? At what point did she get Pattern as a blade? Was it the end of Words of Radiance? She's the one to open the Oathgate, right? And a truth goes along with it?
So before that, she's not using Pattern as a blade. She's using Testament. And she can hear the screams every time she does.
(This post has not been fact checked. And it's been awhile since I read them all.)
every autistic person watching this episode of dungeon meshi:
I think the fact that Endowment gives divine Breath to people who seemingly don’t have significant Return purposes - such as Calmseer sacrificing her divine Breath to heal her daughter - adds a particularly dangerous layer to her Intent, future sight, and planning
I believe her Intent, future sight, and planning isn’t only covering the greater scale purposes of the Five Scholars (especially Vasher), Lightsong, and Blushweaver… but it can also cover the lesser scale scope of just blessing the gift of spending one more week with family, or blessing the gift of living a few more years then healing a dying daughter.
Which… is particularly scary to me when you look at how Preservation was able to one up Ruin so often. Which I know doesn’t mean too much since Ruin’s future sight is between zero and abysmal but…
With that Ruin’s problem was ignoring sacrifice, selfessness, and “less significant individuals.”
If we assume that Ruin’s abysmal future sight encompasses the possibilities seen by atium+duralumin, then it seems Ruin foresaw the possibility of Elend’s death/sacrifice driving Vin to murder-suicide Ruin. But, this would mean he underestimated the possibility. Because he understimated the selflessness and love behind Vin and Elend’s sacrifices.
We see this trend with how he was screwed by over Preservation’s roles for Rashek, Elend, possibly the kandra, and Sazed.
He was too focused on Alendi and warping the prophecies, that he ignored the hateful Terrisman and (possibly) the Feruchemist with perfect memory. And that got Rashek to where Preservation wanted him to be.
He wanted to spike Elend, but ignored the importance of his loving sacrifice.
He used Sazed to get Vin to believe she was the Hero, and then tried to enflame Sazed’s depression. However, Ruin had absolutely no idea that Sazed is the Hero.
He knew the kandra existed, and they were sentient via his power. But he ignored them until the last minute because they weren’t destructive. And he paid the price for it.
Endowment has better future sight than Ruin by orders than magnitude. Much closer to Preservation, it appears. And she understands that some people just want to live a little more, and understands the potential of someone sacrificing their lives so someone else may live. But she also understands the importance of murder or destruction, and of plans spanning decades or centuries.
It seems her plans have involved Blushweaver’s murder, the Manywar happening, and the second Manywar almost happening. She was more involved than usual in the creation of Nightblood. Yesteel and Vasher don’t know this, but Yesteel’s experiments wouldn’t make another Nightblood.
People constantly rail on Sazed that he is a hypocrite in Era 2. I’ve seen people get genuinely angry about him, complaining that’s not how he was in Era 1. But like, it literally makes sense that he’s a hypocrite now. His entire being is a hypocrite. Literally 100% of him seeks to keep things the same and safe, and 100% of him seeks to see things destroyed. Thats how the Shards he holds works. The intents completely contradict. So if his whole being contradicts itself, he will obviously contradict himself on smaller matters.
Awakeners could definitely nerf with radiants if they knew the right tone, but allomancers could negate this with copper. Here me out:
Bronze allomancers describe sensing burned metals as rhythmic pulses; Vin also describes the well of ascension — preservation’s perpendicularity — the same way.
Similarly, the pure tones of Roshar are derived from the investiture of its shards; stormlight, lifelight, and voidlight all carry a unique cadence and pitch. Listeners also describe rhythms pertaining to different emotional states (rhythm of irritation, joy, amusement, etc).
These two sound systems are intentionally similar; therefore, we can reasonably conclude that investiture has an intrinsic rhythm and tone based on its source and intent (at least for the shards of preservation, ruin, honor, cultivation, and odium).
This has incredible implications for the interplay between their magic systems.
Parshendi/listeners could hear allomantic pulses.
Seekers could hear Rosharan rhythms, a fact confirmed by Sanderson in 2016 (source).
Smokers could prevent — or at least resist — someone singing an anti-tone. If copperclouds dampen allomantic rhythms, they should dampen all invested rhythms.
Rioters could summon emotion spren around others at will.
Leechers could drain radiants of investiture.
Nicros could boost a single lashing or awakening well past the normal limits.
Hemalurgy could steal breaths.
Duralumin feruchemy could steal spren bonds like a bondsmith (connection is OP).
Nicrosilminds would be absolutely broken (simply a better gemheart)
There’s so many implications for magic crossover and I can’t wait to see it.
Bold fucking claim for me to make given atium and the Surge of Division letting people SPLIT THE DAMN ATOM but hear me out.
At Second Heightening (200 Breaths) an Awakener gains perfect pitch. If an Awakener hummed an Anti-Tone (Anti-Stormlight/Anti-Voidlight), would they be able to just neuter a Radiant. And I wonder if an Anti-Tone could exist for other magic systems, given that Bronze lets someone burning it hear the Rhythms of other metals. Just need a scholar or something to figure out the Anti-Tone of Preservation and you can also completely fuck over a Mistborn/any Allomancer. Thank you for coming to this insane ramble because I enjoy far overthinking Brandon Sanderson's magic systems and mix matching different planets systems to create hypothetically the strongest possible mix.
I need to be allowed to pester Brandon with questions but I would get plenty RAFO cards.
Happy regular platypus :)
(dont ask why some colors change the original file looks good to me)
What the storm did you do, you cremling son of a chull? I'll have you know I graduated at top of my class in the Windrunner Initiates. I have been involved in numerous secret campaigns against the Parshendi, and I have over 300 confirmed shards. I am trained in bridge-running and I am the top Windrunner in the entire Alethi military. You are nothing to me but another target. I will wipe you out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on Roshar, mark my words.
