We’ve all probably read countless stories, including the ‘reader-insert’ ones. Maybe they’re ones about you being a part of his world. Maybe you’re someone from his past, maybe you’re a new addition to his story. Among those, a specific trope is well-loved: him becoming aware—him entering our world.

In these, maybe he’d scavenge the earth for you. Or maybe one day, he’d just appear in your room, sleeping beside you.

But in all of them, one thing remains constant.

He’d fall in love with you.

That’s where these stories get wrong.

He exists in a world of power, a world that bends to him, shapes itself around his presence. Even in fiction, he is wanted—not by one, not by a few, but by millions. Beautiful women. Powerful women. Women who don’t just dream of standing beside him but deserve to.

And what are you?

A face in the crowd. One of countless, no different, no brighter, no reason to be seen when there are so many others.

These stories pretend the universe will break its laws, twist the fabric of fate, just so he will look your way.

But why?

What force, what logic, what truth would make that happen?

Because you’re the reader? You’re a fan? You love him?

So does everyone else.

You could pass by him on the street and he wouldn’t turn his head. You could sit across from him in a crowded room, and his gaze would slide over you like you were never there at all. Because there’d be no invisible hand bending the story for you.

He doesn’t need to be trapped in a game to be in a different world than you.

Even if he’s here, physically, in this reality—he’d still be in a different world than you.

Angsty idea for the dark mermaid x alucard fic. 

What if they don’t know each others true name? 

Like hear me out alucard doesn’t tell the mermaid his because Adrian is dead and now he is alucard. But she doesn’t tell him her name because (A) she doesn’t have a human name or (B) mermaids could be a type of fae creature in which giving someone their name would be giving that person power over them and hide their name to preserve their power. So in A I would think he would give ther mermaid a name after finding out she has none and in the event of B him finding her name would be like a human man taking a selkies coat to trap them (that idea is kinda inspired by you using the seals eyes in the mermaids design)

Like sure, some people are aware of Alucard’s full name, namely Sypha and Greta— Sypha having researched the history of ‘The Alucard’ who she and Trevor left behind, and Greta only because she was bemused upon hearing Saint Germain use it.  

But besides those few folks, The Alucard is known as simply that- ‘The Alucard’.

Our Siren friend becomes known as ‘The Landwalker’ amongst the townsfolk but that is not her name. Alucard’s quite certain she’s never offered her name, although he has several varying suspicions as to why.  

The first is as you said, it may be a case of the siren’s name not having a human equivalent. Perhaps it is not a sound that can be made easily above water. Alucard has spent a lot of time listening to his beautiful Siren speak, and he’s managed to surmise that her native tongue must have soft vowels as well as soft constants, seeing as how she has the least trouble pronouncing those in the Romanian language.  

Alucard’s second, more vindictive suspicion is based on fae laws concerning ownership and possession. She is clearly not human, and although she is a water-dwelling supernatural creature, Alucard is stealthily aware of a handful of water-adjacent fae species, such as Selkies, thanks to the combined knowledge of his Father’s tomes and the tomes contained within the Belmont Hold.   

He briefly considers directing her to that section of the Hold, just to see if she’s willing to point out her species, or the nearest recorded cousin to it. However, he quickly disregards that thought, not wanting to let her know the exact range of knowledge he has up his sleeve.  

He asks her one day while they’re in the bath (the only way he’ll let her take them now) if she would perhaps be interested in donning a human name for the time she is here.  

Across the large Roman bath, the Siren bares her fangs in displeasure but makes no hissing sound. She’s since learned her snarls and hisses do little to discourage Alucard’s advances, and despite how disparaging that may be, she finds that she has fewer and fewer reasons to rebuff his wishes anyway. It is as if the longer she stays here, next to him, amongst humans, the less feral she knows how to be.   

She wouldn’t go as far as to say he’s taming her, oh no. To hell with that!  

 (Of course, Alucard would, if you were to ask him.)  

“Whhy?” She finally croaks out, more interested in learning his reasoning than fighting him about it.  

“You know my name, yes? You live in my home, you sleep in my bed, and still, I do not know yours. Do you not think that's odd?”  

‘I thinnnkk itt meahn you sstupid.’ She wants to retort, but holds her tongue, settling to shrug her shoulders instead.  

“Well, have you heard any names you like?” Alucard asks.  

The Landwalker opens her mouth to answer, but Alucard cuts her off, never having intended for her to answer anyway.  

“No, no, that wouldn’t work. All the names you’ve heard are ones already belonging to people in Village Belmont, and it would seem weird to steal your new name from them.” Alucard was speaking more to himself than her at this point, an air of certain superiority about him.  

Suddenly, Alucard snapped his fingers in realization. Upon hearing the sound, The Landwalker’s pupils grew wider and more fearful, and her chest started to fold in on itself before she realized this time, the noise was not directed at her.  

“Adela. It’s a strong name with Germanic origins. Dating back to the 10th century. William the Conqueror named one of his daughters Adela.”  

“Conkerrrr?”  

“He was the first Norman King of England, some 700 years ago.”  

“Meahn?”  

“Well, I sincerely doubt anyone dubbed ‘the Conqueror’ was known for their niceties.”  

The Siren shook her head again, scooching forward in the bath the best she could, which was a rather difficult feat with a tail such as hers. Once she was well within his personal distance, the Siren gently placed her clawed hand on top of Alucard’s bent knee, which was protruding well above the water level.  

“Nahm meahn?” She tried again.  

Alucard’s expression stayed the same stoic, unreadable expression he always wore for just a moment before a genuine smile broke out across his face. Throwing his long blonde hair back, he let out a hearty laugh.  

She was such an adorable thing at times, wasn’t she? Alucard’s heart felt lighter upon hearing her clarification. To him, this encounter wasn’t a tense negotiation, oh no. To him it was akin to a pair of lovers choosing their bard song, or their very own constellation in the sky: it was a sign of further love and devotion.  

Of course, it did not feel similar for The Landwalker, although she would be lying if she refused to admit the sight of her dhampir partner laughing filled her heart with hope.

Yes, ‘The Alucard’ was a bastard in so many ways, but deep down, he was still just a boy, looking for love and adventure the way all the silly young swashbucklers would.  

Perhaps one day he could be beautiful to her— perhaps even as beautiful as she was to him.  

“Of noble kind,” Alucard finally said, having come down from his high. “It means of noble kind.”  

‘Noble? Huhh.’ The Landwalker thought.
