Creating A Morning Ritual đ§đžââď¸âď¸
The Summer Solstice has finally come! We are officially halfway through the year. This energy is great for manifesting, expressing gratitude, and making changes in your life for the next few months. Now is the best time to create new morning rituals, to not only enhance your living but to enhance your magic as well! â¨
A morning ritual is anything you do to get your day started. In the witchy world, a morning ritual combines mundane tasks with everyday magic practice.
Sometimes the morning is the only time we get to practice magic, with our lives being so hectic and busy.Â
Your morning ritual can last anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour or more.
First figure out how much time you have to spare in the mornings. Do you have 9am classes or work really early in the morning? Set your alarm for 10-20min before you have to leave, and do your morning ritual then. Work overnight and only get the mornings to sleep? Set an alarm for early afternoon, the exact time doesnât matter. Mornings completely free? Set up I comfortable time to rise and you use as much time as youâd like.
The ritual should last as long as your activities do. If it takes you 20 minutes to do yoga and youâd like to include it in your routine, try to allot time for that. Which brings us to the next point:
Anything that you want to become habitual and/or anything youâre trying to improve at.
It takes 21+ days to create a habit, and 1,000 hours minimum to get good at something, so including these things in your morning ritual will help speed up that process.
A normal morning ritual consists of regular activities like: making tea/coffee, stretching, taking a shower etc. When youâre coming up with your list, make sure to include these tasks that youâre already used to doing. (this will be helpful in figuring out how much time you need, as well)
To spice up your morning ritual, try to turn those mundane tasks into something more magical. Then, consider which of your witchy practices require little energy and can start you up for the day.
Pulling tarot/oracle cards for the day
Showers/baths for cleansing đż
Smoke cleansing đ¨
Making tea/coffee with herbs corresponding to your intentions for the day (ie. rosemary before going to any classes/lectures) đľâď¸
Doing chakra meditation focused on a specific chakra â¤ď¸đ§Ąđđđđđ§đžââď¸
Sun Salutation Yoga âď¸
Creating a quick crystal grid
Going outside and walking barefoot, for grounding đąđż
Burn incense with scents/herbs corresponding to the dayâs intentions
Write out affirmations/intentions for the day in a notebook/journal
Dream journaling! â¨
Working on a page in your grimoire đ
Playing music and dancing around the house to stir up energy đđ˝đś
Lighting a candle on your altar or around your sacred space (bonus points for color based on intention) đŻ
Quick self-love/glamour magic đ
Etc. etc. etc.
Your list could include one, a few, all, or none of these things. Itâs all about what feels right for your individual practice. If you donât already know what you want to do, look into what other witches or spirituals in your belief do on a daily basis. For example, practitioner of Norse Mythology often work with runes, you could definitely include that in your morning ritual.
But most importantly your morning routine is your own. Make it what you want it to be. It can be as long or as short as youâd like, and as eccentric as you please. The most important part is that you enjoy what youâre doing, and you feel energized doing it.

Witchy Lavender Milk Tea
Ingredients:
1/4 Teaspoon Lavender
Freshly Boiled Water
1/2 Cup milk of your choice (cow milk, goat milk, almond milk, whatever)
1/4 Teaspoon vanilla extract
Honey (If you don't have raw honey, purified will be fine)
Instructions:
Pour your boiled water into a mug, leaving plenty of room.
Put the lavender into a tea strainer or tea bag, or leave it loose. Place it in the mug. While this is steeping, pour the half cup of milk into a saucepan/milk steamer/whatever.
Warm it on medium heat until it starts steaming, stirring constantly. While you stir, sing a lullaby of your choice (or use a sleep chant; whichever you prefer). I sing "Lullabye" by Fall Out Boy or "A Twist In My Story" by Secondhand Serenade.
Once your milk is steamed, add the vanilla to it. Remove the lavender from the tea and stir in as much honey as you want. Keep in mind that lavender is very bitter, so you will need at least a tablespoon.
Finally, add the milk. Stir it in and enjoy!
Now this is a recipe I promised myself I would make my kids when and if I had them. I actually have a folder on my phone labeled âRecipes to make my future childrenâ. You know those hot recipes that your parents used to make for you when you were little before they got consumed by their work.
I never really had that growing up, so I always made a promise to myself if I were to have kidsâŚ.I would wake up early just to make them a big breakfast, and make sure they knew they were loved.
Anyways! Here is a recipe for some delicious hot cakes! Great with butter and maple syrup. To Serve hot.
2 cups flour
4 tbsp melted butter
1 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1/3 cup sugar
A dash of vanilla extract
1 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
Butter and syrup to serve
In a medium sized bowl, mix together your dry ingredients. Pour in your melted butter, buttermilk, and vanilla. Mix clockwise with a wooden spoon to promote good luck. Once everything is thoroughly mixed, beat your eggs and add them into the mix. Youâll want to mix the batter until it is smooth. This should take around 3 minutes or a quick play of La Vie En Rose by Edith Piaf.Â
If it is too thick for your liking, add some more milk to thin it out, and if it is too thin for your liking add in more flour.
Scoop about 1/3 cup of mixture (Thatâs about 3 oz) and pour into a hot pan, coated with melted butter or oil. Cook your pancakes on medium heat for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until done.
Serve fresh and hot, drizzled with maple syrup or honey, and with dripping butter melting from the top.
Enjoy, and rememberâŚ

What is Traditional Witchcraft?
According to Michael Howard, Trad Craft refers to âany non-Gardnerian, non-Alexandrian, non-Wiccan or pre-modern form of the Craft, especially if it has been inspired by historical forms of witchcraft and folk magicâ.
Traditional Witchcraft, therefore, is not a single monolith. We can, in fact, distinguish between:
Operative Witchcraft or Folk Magic
Ritual(istic) Witchcraft
This first difference is taken from Margaret Murray; she used the first term for indicating the practice of magic, as carried out by cunning folk and folk magicians, and included the non-religious practice of spells, charms, divinations, etc. âwhether used by a professed witch or by a professed Christian, whether intended for good or for evil, for killing or for curing. Such charms and spells are common to every nation and country, and are practised by the priests and people of every religion. They are part of the common heritage of the human race and are therefore of no practical value in the study of any one particular cult.â (The Witch-Cult, p. 11.)
The second term (also called âDianic cultâ by Murray) indicates, instead, âthe religious beliefs and ritual of the people, known in late mediaeval times as âWitchesâ. The evidence proves that underlying the Christian religion was a cult practised by many classes of the community, chiefly, however, by the more ignorant or those in the less thickly inhabited parts of the country. It can be traced back to pre-Christian timesâ. Therefore we can say that Ritual Witchcraft is the cult of pre-Christian Deities or Spirits connected to the witches.
While the ideas of Murray about this cult have now been discredited, other scholars have reopened this field as a viable area of study, discovering many ecstatic witch-cults. The most known academics in this field are: Carlo Ginzburg, Ăva PĂłcs, Emma Wilby, Claude Lecouteux, Wolfgang Behringer, Sabina Magliocco, GĂĄbor Klaniczay, Gustav Henningsen and Bengt Ankarloo.
Relying on the work of these scholars, we can say therefore that Ritual Witchcraft was/is the religious system surrounding the Sabbath, the Procession of the Dominae Nocturnae from house to house, the spiritual flight, Elphame, the Wild Hunt, the Night Battles, etc.
As we can understand, even if the majority of the Ritual Witches were/are also Operative Witches (practitioners of Folk Magic), not all the Operative Witches were/are also Ritual Witches. The majority of Folk Magicians/Operative Witches, in fact, didnât go to the Sabbath, didnât astrally fly, didnât astrally go with the Wild Hunt, from house to house with the Domina Nocturna, to Elphame/the Otherworld or to the Night Battles. Ritual Witches did.
We can say, therefore, that Operative Witchcraft is a practice, while Ritual Witchcraft is a religion.
Traditional Witches who are secular are, therefore, usually Operative and not Ritual Witches. While the distinction between Ritual and Operative Witchcraft is an established one in the Witchcraft community, I introduce a new, according to me useful, second distinction, inside Ritual Witchcraft (i.e. Witchcraft as a religion), by borrowing the terms âRevivalismâ and âReconstructionismâ from Polytheism, in which itâs an already established terminology:
Hereditary Witchcraft
Revivalist Witchcraft
Reconstructionist Witchcraft
Hereditary Traditional Witchcraft brings together all the traditions that claim a lineage from the Witchcraft of the past.
Revivalist Traditional Witchcraft is inspired by folklore, trials and the figure of the witch without any presumption of hereditarity. Unlike the Reconstructionist one, it leaves ample space for personal initiative and the influence of other traditions, without slavishly following the history in every single detail.
Reconstructionist Traditional Witchcraft, finally, tries to resume, starting from the in-depth study of folklore, historical trials and documents, the exact practices and beliefs of Historical Witchcraft. For example, the pantheon of Spirits, the festivities, the structure of the Sabbath, the structure of the offerings, and so on.
An important aspect for those who practice Reconstructionism is the resumption of the names of the Gods (or it would be more correct to say, of the âDeific Familiar Spiritsâ or âMajor Spiritsâ) forgotten and remained only in the trials papers and in folklore. The idea is to reopen roads, ways to these Spirits. Reconstructing therefore means paying homage to these Spirits and allowing those interested to re-establish a connection with Them.
We said before that Traditional Witchcraft is not Wicca. Whatâs the difference?
According to the Traditional Witchcraft author Lee Morgan:
âIt could easily be said that one of the major differences between the modern revival referred to as âTraditional Witchcraftâ and the other modern revival known as âWiccaâ, is that Traditional Witchcraft draws on âfolkloric materialâ and is largely âshamanicâ whereas Wicca is more of a fusion of Western Occult ceremonial and natural magic traditions.â

1) Basic Cooking : This is probably pretty obvious and most people interested in kitchen witchcraft know at least the basics. But if you donât - learn. You can do kitchen magic without even turning on a stove (sandwiches, salads, etc)Â
2 ) Cooking From Scratch : Start with basics and get more complicated. Basic things can include - Soups, Sauces, Marinated or Seasoned Meat, Potato Dishes.Â
3 ) Baking and Baking From Scratch : Baking from a box is perfectly valid. you can add things like fruit or nuts, you can make frostings or fillings, you can decorate. But baking from scratch is also a good skill. Pies, Pastries, Cakes, Etc. Also remember savory baking (like bread, meat pies, etc)
4 ) âDrink Potionsâ : Any drink really. Coffee, Tea, Juice, Milkshakes, EtcÂ
5 ) Canning, Pickling, Preserving : I have limited experience in this, but there are lots of recipes for âFreezer Jamâ or âRefrigerator Picklesâ and im going to start with them.Â
6 ) Cheese Making, Yogurt Making : Another thing i have no experience in, but you can buy kits online for a decent price.Â
You really don't need all the fancy bullshit every tumblr influencer will ever tell you to use. Here's my countdown ofaxtually useful shit.
A pocket knife, preferably with a wood handle. Use that bitch for everything, enchant it, carve symbols in it. It will absolutely be your best friend.
A good bag or backpack with a couple of plastic or ziploc bags in it. If you ever run off into the woods to find minerals, bones, plants, etc. A set aside bag and some things to store your treasures in becomes a necessity.
Basic divinatory sets. You don't have to buy fancy shit, learn to divine with playing cards and dice, or learn geomancy, lithomancy, or rune casting with homemade sets. A tarot deck is nice, but it isn't necessary when you've got so many other divinatory aids available.
A nice sized chunk of scrap cloth. When you process dried plants or sort new ones, that shit can and will get everywhere. A scrap piece of muslin or linen can help contain all of that mess and make clean up way easier.
A stash of good rocks. Draw sigils or symbols on those babies and leave them in the garden, the windowsill, property boundaries, under the stoop, etc. You can never have too many good rocks.
A pendulum, for fucks sake. The cards are going to be vague as hell when you're trying to figure out yes or no questions, and using a candle to communicate with spirits is really fucking hard outside. If you can't afford one, find a nice chunk of pointy quartz and learn to macrame.
A workspace. Everyone talks about having big fancy altars, but no one mentions that you need a good surface to do all your work on.
Storage, so much storage. I'm not talking about mason jars and pill bottles, I'm talking about where you put all the things you put in those jars. Having a workspace with drawers is immeasurably helpful.
A broom and water source. You're going to be cleaning up after yourself a lot, it's helpful to have a jug of water and a broom that stays by your workspace.
A mode of cleansing. I make a salt concoction to scatter around my workspace on short notice and store it close by.
On that note: SOMETHING TO CANCEL SPELLS WITH. Eventually, something will go wrong. You'll want to end that spell immediately. Have something to do it with.
A strainer. If you don't have a blender, rub dried plants across it to get a powder. If you do have a blender, you can strain that powder with it. Either way, if you intend to powder shit, get a strainer.
Small trays. It makes drying flowers so much easier if you have a small metal surface to contain them with- then just stick those suckers in a southern window and let em go.
Yarn/string scraps. Having a box or drawer of scraps makes trying this up to dry easier and a bit less wasteful.
A stash of offerings for whatever you work with. Honey for fae, coins for graveyard gatekeepers, alcohol for ancestors, etc.
Protective talismans or charms. Once you're into all of this stuff, you'll likely stick your nose in something you shouldn't. Having basic protection with you or in your workspace is incredibly important. A key and hagstone with red string is simple and effective.
A lighter- so many people forget the most basic shit. You're going to want to light shit on fire if you're a witch.
And a last tip- if something is too hard for a mortar and pestle, a plastic bag and hammer works too.
Anti-Inflammation Tea: orange slices, cloves, cinnamon stick, finely chopped ginger root, rosemary and blueberries. Simmer these for 10-15 minutes, then remove and steep a green tea bag in the liquid for 3 additional minutes. Strain and serve warm or chill.
Sage is a very versatile plant; itâs not only used for cooking. This kitchen witch likes to make incenses from it or just plant it for decorative reasons in her garden. In my childhood however, I mainly knew the herb as a medical plant. Especially in summer, when I fell asleep with the windows still  open, I often awoke with a sore throat. Of course, my mom and her mother before her had a wonderful recipe for that - didn`t I mention that sage is a great natural remedy for a sore throat? Letâs brew some SAGE TEA! Thereâs a good reason, why the herbâs name is based on the Latin word âsalvareâ â healing - after all.
GROWING SAGEÂ đą
Sage is a low maintenance, sun loving ancient Mediterranean herb. Basically it can survive mild winters outside and therefore can be harvested all year long. (Iâve had some on my balcony and now in my garden for years and it only happened once, that it didnât make it through the dark season.) To keep the sage healthy you should cut it from springtime to late summer without removing the wooden stalks. ~~~
STORING SAGEÂ đą
Drying the leaves is pretty easy. Harvest the upper parts of the stalks and pluck the leaves off, put them on a flat plate or a piece of baking paper. Donât expose the sage to direct sunlight! Once the leaves are completely dry, just crumble them and put them into a nice glass jar. Store it at a dark and dry place. The jar above is actually the one I took from my grandmas kitchen after she had passed away. It still got her handwriting on it. ~~~
SAGE TEAÂ đą
To brew one cup (1/4l) only one tablespoon of the dried or fresh leaves are required. The tea should then cool down a little before using it for curing a sore throat. From now on you should gargle three times a day (preferably after eating). Other uses for the, in this case still warm tea are to prevent night sweats and stomach ache. ~~~
More on this amazing herb later on đ
disclaimer: no household remedy will ever replace a visit to the doctor!
