"The name spawned when I was around 16 years old. All of my favorite bands, like, Hellhammer, Venom, they all had cool nicknames. So we basically stole the nicknames out of Celtic Frost and Hellhammer.

Hellhammer - Hellhammer, Maniac is (Hellhammer song) ‘Maniac'; Necrobutcher is Slayed Necros... That was just some names we picked out for ourselves. Somebody told me, 'You can't put these two names together because it's wrong, grammatically. Necro-butcher.'

(He doesn’t mention it in this interview, but for those who were unaware, the name Euronymous is taken from the Hellhammer song ‘Eurynomos’. The name also appears in ‘The Infernal Names’ in LaVey’s Satanic Bible, written as Euronymous. The real Euronymous was no fan of LaVey’s. However, the Infernal Names is fun reading as it’s like a who’s who of black metal names. 🕯)
