Yes, I have talked about Chrollo and Morena's potential foiling in multiple posts, like this one:

Morena and Chrollo share the same lack of attachment to life and a religious motif. Chrollo is a mix between the Devil and an inverse Jesus, while Morena’s crown of thorns links her to Jesus as well.

Both their religious motifs have to do with them being leaders. Chrollo and the Spiders are a group of misfits that choose to steal from others, instead of promoting Christian values of charity or trying to change the unjust philosophy of society. They are a disturbance like Jesus and his disciples, but their philosophy is the opposite of his. Morena wears a crown of thorns because she is considered by her society a fake queen, just like Jesus was mocked for his title of King of the Jews. Jesus has this mockery inflicted by others, while Morena is symbolically choosing to inflict it to herself through wearing the crown.

As leaders, both Chrollo and Morena put their identities into their groups. Chrollo has created a group, which in his dreams will survive him. He refers to himself as “the head of the spiders” and thinks his life is not more important than the other members’. Morena’s whole plan consists of leaving her group to do the dirty work for her and her power has no other effect, but to grant others abilities.

This dependence on their respective groups is a hint of how both Chrollo and Morena’s sense of self is ultimately very weak. They have weak egos.

This is why Chrollo needs to steal others’ powers. He steals people’s selves hoping he can find his own and does not realize how his sense of self is in the familial relationships he has with his spiders.

Morena instead tries to oppose Nasubi, but reduces herself to his negation. She is defined by him. She hates hierarchies and this is why her power supposedly grants every member the chance to create their own community. Still, it is all rooted in hierarchies. People are given value through numbers and are granted gifts and rights only if they level up. Even the people Morena’s group has to kill are granted a value. Normal people are less than nen users who are less than princes.

Morena is moving in the same framework as Nasubi, just in the opposite direction. She has not freed herself from his vision. Maybe this is why a prince is at level 50, while she is only at level 45.

Morena is meant to be Chrollo's foil just like Tserriednich is meant to be Kurapika's. In general, this arc seems to be to have both Kurapika and the Spiders as protagonists, they offer us 2 different points of view on the same conflict:

Kurapika describes to us the Prince War, the bloody war of the rich, which is born from abuse and a need to sacrifice the individual for society. In this context, Kurapika's antagonist is building up to be Tserriednich, obviously.

Chrollo and the Spiders show us the Mafia War, which is just a mirror of what is happening above and is born from those same rules and violence. In this scenario, they Spiders are choosing to go after Morena before they hunt down Hisoka.

At the same time, I doubt everything is just gonna be reduced to... Kurapika is gonna kill Tserriednich and Chrollo Morena... Tserriednich and Morena are foes that should challenge Kurapika and Chrollo to overcome their flaws. In particular, Kurapika is probably gonna have to decide between Oito and her baby and getting revenge on his people. What is more important? New life or past death? Chrollo instead must choose if to be like Morena, who is clearly sacrificing the members of her group one after one in a selfish game or if to protect them, even if it costs him revenge and partly his chaotic ideals.

Do you think Gon will get his nen back?

I actually go back and forth on this. It's been a while since I first watched HxH and I used to strongly believe that Gon would never regain his ability to use nen because of his vow.

Initially I focused mostly on the "if you want more, there will be a price to pay" line from Ging to interpret Gon's nodes being closed as the "price" he already paid for his nen vow.

However, my feelings towards this have changed.

"Reverted back to normal" is the key words here I want to focus on.

Every person in the HxH world has aura. It's just that they haven't trained enough to open their nodes and use nen. Some people (like Neon, Zepile, and Komugi) unknowingly open their pores, but most people train for it. I can't remember if it has been explicitly stated before but I suspect if someone "doesn't have aura" they'd just be dead. So Gon still has his aura (as Ging says) it's just that his nodes are closed.

Gon is focusing on his schoolwork right now and spending time with Aunt Mito. For now, the story of HxH is not focused on him. I think that if Gon ever finds another goal reason enough to be in the story again, he will regain his nen- at a price.

I think he will have to work harder than he did before to re-open his pores. Last time, he went through a nen-baptism to speedrun it. Narratively I think he should actually learn the proper techniques this time to show a contrast. He rushed his hatsu last time too, even naming it something cheesy. I would love to see a contrast with a fully thought-through ability for him when he comes up with a new one to contrast the two different routes about learning nen.

As for whether or not I think he would still be an enhancer, I have a theory about nen, I suspect it would be determined by how Gon views nen / what he wants to use it for.

the face eiji made here was so painful, it reminded me of another time he made it

so i was rewatching banana fish because i was getting a close online friend to watch it for her first time (this is ur sign to make ur besties suffer too if u havent already :>) and while watching episode 13, i got a better look at this pained expression eiji made..

in this scene, he was having an inner dialogue addressed to ash, where he speaks of the nightmares ash suffers through and how he pretends not to notice them and in this shot we see an example of it. eiji's back is turned to ash so that he can't see eiji's face or tell that he's awake. he then wonders to himself what ash dreamt of that had him so distressed at night. this is pretty cut-and-dry and there's nothing really to discuss here that hasn't been talked about already but i have such great appreciation for this show because the look on eiji's face here reminded me of a different face he made in episode 22:

something atrocious just happened to ash and eiji can tell immediately upon seeing the way he was acting when finally away from the commotion of gunfire. and while eiji hasn't gone through the things ash has gone through, hasn't witnessed them directly or even had knowledge of just how disgusting people could be up until recently, he looks at ash's current state, looks at how shaken up and afraid he is, and he looks so angry.

i know a lot of people (not the majority but definitely some) have a kind of reaction to this scene of frustration towards eiji for not being angry or "showing" his anger. they get mad at him for not saying anything or turning to violence or thinking of vengeance. and i think that reaction, while understandable, is not necessary here and would have ruined the weight of a scene like this, especially in the context of such a graphic crime like rape. even if he did have the reaction those people watching wanted, its not like he can deliver on it at all.

what he felt then was an intense anger, seething quietly but still present, towards the world. towards foxx. towards every adult in ash's life that didn't help or intervene or protect him through the hell ash was going through. and yet it already happened. bloodshed or blind fury wouldn't undo it, all it would do is add to ash's baggage and nobody wants that. realistically, he only had one thing that he could give to ash and it was the one thing ash needed most. he needed all his swaying pieces to be held together and no amount of outrage will ever have the same impact as that moment of silence where eiji held him in his arms.

those same things eiji wonders whether ash dreams of them are the things he witnessed ash walk away from during that moment of vulnerability. his exploitation. if it weren't for the greed of men, ash would not have had those nightmares, and that's why eiji had that same look on his face when hearing ash wake up from one. he knew that no matter what the nightmare was, it had something to do with the way he's either neglected or used and abused by adults all the time

god this show hurts. he probably wanted to do so much more in that moment yet all he could do was hold ash in his arms

This relationship worked well in Season One. Oh sure, it had its ups and downs, but it worked. This, right here? This is sending a clear message that if your significant other abuses you, it’s your duty to forgive them unconditionally followed by you apologizing to them because clearly, it was your fault all along

The fact that they created a specific situation (using Psimon, of all people, because that makes sense- it’s not like M’gann has been shown to be able to easily overpower him or anything) to create a situation like this where unconditionally forgiveness was FORCED, is sickening

Is there a Shen Twins au that addresses how that would affect a potential Bingge visit? Personally I’d like to see one where PIDW!Binghe has just left the Scum Villain timeline, he’s super confused about how different that SQQ was from the one he grew up with, and then he’s in another different dimension with two SQQ’s. So this must be the answer right? In his original world Shen Jiu became SQQ, and in the crybaby’s world Shen Yuan became SQQ. Which leaves the question: where was the Shen Yuan in his world? (he gives 0 fucks about where Shen Jiu ended up in the other world) The way he sees it, the world owes him a Shen Yuan and he’s gonna find him and ask him where the hell he’s been. And maybe to marry him, but that’s not important right now. Throw in Madam Meiyin confirming that’s his soulmate and that’s a fic that would scratch every inch of my brain.

Why’s Cap Acting like an Asshole?

Thavma and Billy have been separated for about two weeks now.

Without Billy, Thavma is simply the Living Lightning. Sure it’s alive, but it doesn’t have morals, opinions, none of that. Instead, all of that is shaped by its host. So, without Billy, Thavma doesn’t really care for anything.

Though, that doesn’t stop it from trying to care about the stuff Billy does.

Thavma: *standing outside of a burning building*

Mother: “My baby! My baby is still inside!”

Thavma: *closes its eyes and takes the biggest breath, sounding so done because he does not want to help*

Baby: *wailing*

Thavma: *floats into the building to save the baby and anyone else with an annoyed expression*

To be honest, all Thavma wants to do is protect the Rock. And Billy. But mostly the Rock. The reason for this is because of the fact The Living Lightning was solely made to protect the center of Magic. It does not care for saving people, but it does care about eliminating threats to the Rock, which most of Billy’s villains are. If that ends up helping anyone but the Rock, that was an extra bonus.

Speaking of villains, like stated earlier, a few of them are threats to Magic. Such as Black Adam. In Thavma’s mind, that means he automatically has to be eliminated. No mercy.

That’s how Black Adam was greeted with the Champion actually trying to kill him and almost succeeding. He’s never seen the man so bloodlusted and silent during a fight before. He’s also never seen the man use the full extent of his abilities. In other words, Thavma is much more in tune with its own strengths and weaknesses and was whooping Black Adam’s ass with extreme efficiency. This is because while Thavma doesn’t have any morals and such, he still has memories from previous champions, and although they had different gods as patrons, their strengths and speed and all that were the same.

In short, this was a guy with about 5000 years of experience fighting a guy with over 100,000.

Anyways, the fight got so bad that the JL pulled up as Thavma was literally about to force Black Adam to say Shazam with MIND CONTROL MAGIC that neither Adam nor the JL have ever seen him use before.

Supes: *sounds disturbed* “Since when can you do mind control??”

Thavma: *looks over to them with a judgmental eyebrow raise cause why’re Billy’s little friends here*

Batman: “Captain, please step away from Black Adam.”

Thavma: *torn between protecting the Rock and not wanting to mess up Billy and the JL’s friendships*

Thavma eventually decided that when Billy became his host again, the boy might be upset about losing these people. The boy being upset could affect his ability to protect the Rock in the future and so he reluctantly stepped away from Adam.

Thavma: *steps away but does a little annoyed sigh reminiscent of a moody teenager*

Black Adam: *flies away, glancing over his shoulder every now and then*

Flash: *zooms over* ”Cap, buddy, what was that?”

Thavma: *really doesn’t want to talk to these guys at all* “Nothing. I must take my leave now. Good day.” *tries to speed walk away*

Flash: *wondering why he’s talking like that* “Dude, wait up!”

JL: *all follow after him kinda like ducklings*

Thavma honestly didn’t know how his host put up with these mortals. They ask so many questions.

GL: “Cap, you haven’t shown up to the last few meetings. What’s up with that?”

Thavma: “I forgot.”

Supes: “Forgot? I thought you never forgot things. You said something about the Wisdom of Solomon making it so that you couldn’t. Has something been making you that busy?

Thavma: “Yes.”

Wondy: “What is it? Some kind of villain?”

Thavma: “It’s nothing, and no.”

The “nothing” in question has just been it lounging around the Rock because that’s what it was made to do: protect the Rock. Being around it often is the easiest way to ensure that. The Champions not staying often was something Thavma always found idiotic. Why did they care about their villages or cities when their duty was to the Rock? At that thought, Thavma could only sigh and shake his head. Mortals.

grown men fight about how annoying it is there are more women in superhero movies now. 

im not unused to fights about superheroes. at school, i watch my girl students get into the opposite fight: who gets to be wonder woman. most of the marvel films were too violent for them to see, which leaves all of three names: supergirl and ivy. ivy isn’t even a superhero. she’s a villain that people fell in love with.

Every time they play, I am reminded again how many of my heroes are just the male hero’s name, but with “She” or “girl” tacked haphazardly onto someone else’s title. Whenever the boys join the game these children - meaning no harm, just saying the truth the way it opens up for them, as preschool children do - they remind the girls that Superman is stronger than Supergirl. The man is always stronger. this is backed by what they watch. i understand why they believe it.

Kids don’t read comics. These kids can’t read yet at all. I can’t tell them about squirrel girl or captain marvel (oh, oh, but didn’t Disney wait their sweet time to see if that would pay off - and her story is now just tacked on too, cleaning up a man’s mess). They won’t read that kind of stuff until middle school, maybe, if they’re told comics are an okay thing for girls to like. And by then they’ve lived a decade of their life. Fighting for scraps. For only one wonder woman.

“another female superhero?” groans a man on the internet. i see my 7 girls all scrambling for 3 names, and the boys each comfortable in their own batman/superman/spiderman/aquaman/ironman/hawkeye/antman/captian america. i see my 7 girls all deciding: let’s play my little pony instead. we can’t be heroes. girls don’t get to be.

they save equestria in their game. i tell them they’re my superheroes. one wraps herself around my body and looks up. “i hate all the girl heroes,” she says, “they’re stupid.” i remind her we don’t use stupid as a word at school. she looks at me, deadpan. “i don’t like them,” she repeats, “i only like wonder woman.”

i try my best. “there’s storm and batgirl,” i say. 

“yeah,” she says, “but there’s no movies about them.”

When a black character is rightfully upset to William who is, as far as he is concerned, is sneakily having some affair with Tanya, then being a snarky, vague asshole who won't tell him where his missing girlfriend is, it's "bullying", and being mean...

But when a white character that makes fun of William's facial expressions to his face multiple times, lashes out at him for that same thing... suddenly the relationship is given complexity and nuance... suddenly, it's interesting...

I just think it's always a little strange when people do the mental gymnastics to find reasons to dislike seeing character interactions that just so happen to involve a black character when it's obvious that the other white characters are not held to the same standards.

I'm not trying to single out any particular person here, because the truth is that this happens in basically every fandom I've ever been in with a black character. People find weird ways to explain away their discomfort with interracial relationships in ways that clearly wouldn't bother them if it happened between two white people. Like, be honest with yourself here. Why does it really bother you?
