I mean, ‘all work is slavery under capitalism’ is REALLY compatible with ‘“sex work” is bad.’ Like, the obvious logical points would be ‘all work is coerced/slavery in a system where you have to work to eat and live -> coerced sex is rape -> ‘sex work’ is rape and should be abolished.’ It’s inconsistent to say, ‘all work is bad… Except for ‘sex work’. Without a really good reason why this is the one kind that’s not coercive.

See the thing here is I kind of wish there were numbers on this. If there were numbers that said, “If given the option non trans people would chose to stay their sex regardless of oppression” than there’d actually be something here. But instead it’s just a weird anecdote that even within itself acknowledges that people say ‘yes’ but denies that that yes is anything but a lie. Followed by a failure to acknowledge that some female and LG (no B here because they’d face oppression on the basis of same sex attraction either direction) people might not ‘just chose to transition out of their oppression’ because without a surgery that won’t actually magically change your sex and will fuck up your body, everyone will be able to tell anyway.

What Happens When A Country Bans Spanking?

Researchers look at countries that have prohibited corporal punishment for kids and their rate of youth violence.

Now a new study looking at 400,000 youths from 88 countries around the world suggests such bans are making a difference in reducing youth violence. It marks the first systematic assessment of whether an association exists between a ban on corporal punishment and the frequency in which adolescents get into fights. 

“I have a tracker in me,” read the cryptic note, found in triage by a greenhorn doctor — scribbled by a woman in the emergency room.

She claimed to have been implanted with a GPS tracking device of some kind — an assertion not unheard of, but never the less unusual.

Dr. A, anonymous for safety concerns, rolled his eyes — ordinarily, such a note would be a sure indicator of mental illness, for which a psychiatrist would need to be summoned.

That modern day slavery is alive and unfortunately booming, even in the U.S., might jar the somnambulant masses — after all, schools rightly cover the nation’s history of antebellum slavery quite thoroughly. But human trafficking and exploitation constitutes a modern iteration of baneful practice.

“Very plainly,” Katherine Chon, director of the newly created Office on Trafficking in Persons at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, told Gorenstein, “human trafficking is when one person takes advantage of another person for some profit.”

Sex isn’t the only reason people buy other people — human trafficking sadly staffs a number of industries with forced laborers, from the menial and repetitive tasks of manufacturing, to domestic service.

Under threat of violent punishment — or worse — victims often endure horrific trauma and find it difficult, if not impossible, to alert others to their circumstances for assistance.

You ever notice the difference between how ‘radicalized’ males are treated vs females? I mean it’s a huge case of ‘we all know why’ but you see posts about radicalized males in non-Radfem spaces and about half of them are like ‘they don’t have any friends or support systems :(. I was watching a video and there was this ‘joke’. He sees a couple fighting and it seems really threatening and aggressive only for them to start passionately making out and the end of the gag is, ‘this is why I mind my own business.’

And I can’t help but think about how I’ve read about domestic abuse previously being seen as, ‘a personal issue’ a private matter that everyone might know is going on but no one’s really supposed to talk about. It’s convenient for abusive people when others mind their own business, it’s easier to isolate their victim and make them think what’s going on is normal. It’s convenient for them to be able to hide assaults behind the thin veneer of, ‘sex games’.

This is something i’ve been kinda stressing about lately as a lesbian woman. dunno if you could give your opinion?

i’m quite short. 5’3. Not ultra short, but shorter than average where I’m from (not american).

I’ve noticed I tend to find women of similar height and even slightly shorter attractive. It’s not that I haven’t ever found tall women attractive, I do, but I do seem to be more drawn toward the shorter ones.

Is this creepy? I don’t like it when the woman’s looks are juvenile looking. But I just seem to like the idea of my partner being either my size or maybe a bit smaller than me. Not like 4’10 or anything, but just a tad smaller. But now i’m worrying, because while I don’t think it’s the same as those 6’5 men who wanna date 5’0 women, maybe other women will see me as the same, especially radfems?:c

Again, it’s not like my future partner or my attraction in general has a height limit, I just, like some tend to prefer curly or straight hair, or like some lesbians hype up taller women, seem to like short women. In general though, big size differences have never appealed to me, neither in media or irl, so maybe it has something to do with it? Since i’m not overly tall myself, perhaps my preference just falls into line.

I'll be 100% honest anon, you are not saying anything that I would even remotely consider creepy or objectifying.

No one is obligated to a specific preference - men or womyn. I personally prefer a womyn who is my height or maybe just two inches taller. I also prefer fuller womyn, whether that is fat or muscle. This would only be an issue if right after you said that was your preference, you started rambling about how taller womyn are actually pieces of shit and that if a womyn has wavy hair then she's ugly lmao. That's only ever been the problem with men saying they don't like to date big womyn. They follow it up shitting on said big womyn instead of leaving it at, "I just prefer thin womyn."

You are not obligated to be attracted to anyone. You're just another gal with preferences.

Let female people shave/wear makeup/be feminine is the most online shit. Go outside. While you’re there, count how many female people are and aren’t doing that shit. While you’re there count how many people are even remotely mean to you for those acts. While you’re there take note of how much money is spent on ‘beautifying’ bullshit. ‘Let males be masculine’ is also nonsense, but ‘let males be masculine’ usually means, ‘men should be allowed to harass women without any social consequences.’ It’s significantly worse, but it’s a sentiment that deserves unbridled disgust while the female take just needs to actually exist in the world outside of their bubble for a hot minute.

Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion in 2021, ProPublica found in a first-of-its-kind data analysis.

The rate of sepsis shot up more than 50% for women hospitalized when they lost their pregnancies in the second trimester, ProPublica found.

The surge in this life-threatening condition, caused by infection, was most pronounced for patients whose fetus may still have had a heartbeat when they arrived at the hospital.

ProPublica previously reported on two such cases in which miscarrying women in Texas died of sepsis after doctors delayed evacuating their uteruses. Doing so would have been considered an abortion.

Social Construct Masterpost

I was inspired to make this post because of the mass confusion on tumblr about what social constructs are and how they function. I will start with a simple example:

This is a one dollar bill. It is an excellent example of a social construct. This piece of paper represents a specific amount of spending power in the society that it exists in (the USA). An individual person could decide personally that it represents 1000$ worth of spending power, but it would not matter because like all social constructs, the collective agreement between individuals in society is what determines the meaning of the construct. There are laws on the books about currency but it doesn’t stop society from changing the meaning of a dollar; after all, in times of scarcity a dollar is a much more valuable asset than in times of plenty. The exact value of a dollar is something that fluctuates in tune with other factors, including things like consumer confidence- meaning, how consumers feel about the economy. Social constructs can change based on changes of opinion in the population. 

One way to test if something is a social construct is to remove it from its native society and see if it retains the same functionality. The US dollar is accepted in some foreign countries, but in other places, it is just a piece of paper. 

Another way to test if something is a social construct is to remove people from the picture entirely and see if it retains its functionality. Without people to give a dollar meaning it simply becomes paper. 

Contrast the attributes of a dollar with say, biological sex.

Male humans produce sperm and much higher levels of testosterone than females. Females produce ova and offspring if their eggs are fertilized and implanted. Individuals who are sterile still have either male or female anatomy which serves sexual functions for the individual. Virtually everyone on earth qualifies as one sex or the other, with or without malfunctioning or variations. Is this binary a social construct?

Does the collective agreement of society give male and female organs their functionality? Absolutely not. Humans did not always have an understanding of how pregnancy happened, and yet it happened anyway. Individuals who don’t know about or understand reproduction can and do get pregnant via sex. No matter how many people got together and decided that females inseminate males there would be no change in the function of testes or ovaries. 

The functionality of human reproductive organs is also impervious to cultural or geographical differences. All over the world people get pregnant and have babies by mixing sperm from males with ova from females. There is no exception. 

Removing humans from the equation also has no effect on the biological reality of mammalian reproduction. Male mammals are male, female mammals are female, and only one of the two can give birth. 

Biological sex is not and never has been a social construct.

Another example is gender. Femininity is the easiest example to discuss. Lets look at different examples of femininity from around the world:

As you can see, what it means to be feminine or girly is very different depending upon the society. None of these is the “correct” femininity, just different versions from different cultures. There is no objective way to determine what makes someone feminine in any given culture- you have to ask people. 

The nature of femininity is totally subjective and relies on the collective agreement of society. If you move one of these women into a different society their defining feminine characteristics instead become physical characteristics with no gender designation at all. In fact, what would make you gender conforming in one culture would make you gender non conforming in another. Gender also changes in individual societies over time, so the meaning of being feminine in America in the 1800s would differ markedly from what it means to be feminine in America right now. How people feel about the construct changes its meaning.Thus we can easily say that gender is a social construct.

It does worry me sometimes when I’m going through blogs and find a kid in Radfem spaces. I don’t interact with them and but I sincerely hope these girls are staying safe. Never post your face or body, always use a pseudonym, if someone’s making them feel unsafe or sexually harassing them have an adult they can talk to, know they don’t owe strangers anything etc.

I rarely bring this up because it feels like fairly silly and low-stakes compared to all the other effects of american imperialism, but one of the funniest things when Americans deny that living in the imperial core and the center of global cultural hegemony confers them any sort of privilege over people from the imperial periphery is that like. In order for this conversation where you tell me you have no privilege over me to even be able to take place one of us had to learn the other's language, and it wasn't you.

I think the fact that by default the onus of learning the other's language to enable communication is always put on the other side is a pretty significant privilege on the cultural front.

a woman IS more than reproductive organs, women can be anything, do anything, dress any way, act any way, so on and so forth. HOWEVER the only requirement is that she be of the female sex, ie have female reproductive organs.

this does not mean ALL a woman is is her female sex, only that to be a woman she MUST be the female sex

If I said, ‘that’s misogynistic’ it is saying that the behavior negatively impacts female people and there’s a moral obligation to change it.

So when you call refusing sex an ‘-ist’ or ‘-ic’ act you are saying there is a moral obligation to have sex with people based on a given trait.

I’m a believer in radical consent: You’re allowed to say no at any time, to any person, for any reason and no one should ever be shamed for denying someone access to their body.
