“Goddammit.” Phoenix throws his case files in front of him, the papers mismatched in disarray. “This is useless.”
His office is occupied by one other individual. Miles looks over from his seat on the couch. “What’s the problem?”
“I can’t seem to find a motive for the culprit,” Phoenix says. He rubs his forehead and leans back in his chair. “I don’t even know where to look.”
Miles places his work down, in a much orderly fashion than his own. “Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Solve this case,” he says. Then waves him off. “No, no, I just need—I don’t know.” He stares down at his hands. “Maybe a bit of encouragement? That might help?”
Miles stares at him and Phoenix flushes under his gaze. He’s not used to this new…thing, where he asks for what he wants. It’s something Maya recommended and—well. He’s always been a bit more reserved on the whole receiving than giving.
“Very well.” Miles nods and straightens up. Phoenix braces himself for the punch. “You are one of the brightest defense attorneys I’ve ever met. I spend half my time figuring out how to thwart you and the other half examining ways of how to think like you. If there is an issue with a trial, I know I can always come to you.” He smiles, a tiny thing that makes his heart flutter. “And I hope you trust me enough to know the same sentiment is returned.”
Phoenix blushes a bright red. He sinks down into his chair, legs crumbling to the floor. “Oh, uh, yeah. That was exactly, yeah that’s nice. For sure. Ha, ha, ha, ha!”
“Are you alright?”
“I’m doing just dandy.”
Miles chuckles quietly as Phoenix continues to hide. “Apparently you’ve lost your talent for speaking as well.”
“Ehhhhhhhhh—“ Phoenix whines. “I just wasn’t expecting! That!”
“I did speak so on your request.”
“You speak fancy sometimes and I don’t know what to do.”
“You haven’t gotten used to it yet, I see.” Phoenix peeks out over his desk to witness him smirking. “Good to know.”
Inspired by @majesticanna again 💚

ahhhh I guess tumblr might be the place for my thoughts like why do bagels taste so good. i will miss twitter, if it does go under lol
(HQ Season 1) — the fact that Kageyama and Hinata both work so tirelessly to get stronger… it’s no wonder they trust each other so implicitly. That they will be the ones to compete with each other, again and again.
I wonder when they truly became friends, not only partners and rivals.

A loud clap of thunder shattered through the air, the noise startling Shouto from his dreamless sleep. The shock to his system forced his heart to a rapid pace, matching the beat of the rain pounding down his window frame. He turned on his right side to watch the lightning strike the sky, illuminating the world in its energetic dance.
Shouto never liked storms all that much, but he couldn’t deny the beauty of the atmosphere as the rain and thunder played its chaotic symphony, the beautiful bolts of lightning stringing a spiderweb of light and shadow. The night tried to suffocate the stubborn light, but it always came back again to fight another battle in their unending war. Shouto looked to his nightstand, the red glow of his alarm clock glaring back at him. 3am. He sighed. Only 2 more hours until he’d have to get up for the morning shift at work.
He laid back down and stared at the ceiling, willing sleep to come. If he just kept thinking calm thoughts, eventually he’d fall asleep. He hoped. Of course, this method had never worked in the past, but that didn’t stop him from trying. Cold air filtered through the vent, causing Shouto to shiver. He really should get the heating fixed, especially since winter was closing in. Even though he could control his body heat, he preferred sleeping at a comfortable temperature. Plus..... Well, his boyfriend needed to be warm, too. Shouto shifted to his left side, watching his lover’s deep, even breaths. By the light of the lightning bolts, Shouto examined Izuku’s wild green curls splayed across his pillow, his soft features relaxed while he drifted through his dreams. Shouto tucked a few stray strands behind Izuku’s ear and caressed his cheek with his thumb. Watching this peaceful scene, an outsider would not guess the constant strain of Izuku’s strenuous workload. Right now, though, he slept through the raging storm outside, blissfully unaware of the chaos. Good, Shouto thought. Izuku deserved to rest. Carefully, Shouto moved closer to Izuku, wrapping his arm around his body. He curled around Izuku, sliding into the natural spaces made by his limbs. Shouto nestled his head into the soft nest of Izuku’s curls, a small smile pulling at his lips. They fit together so well it was hard to tell where one man began and the other ended. Shouto breathed in deeply, memorizing the coconut scent of Izuku’s hair. Though Shouto had tried to move slowly, his movements roused Izuku into semi-awareness. “Shou’?” Izuku murmured, turning his head slightly. “Shh,” Shouto said. He kissed Izuku’s hair. “Go back to sleep.” Izuku nodded his head and shifted closer to Shouto, pressing his back to Shouto’s chest. In their silence, the storm outside continued to pour down their windows.
“Rain’s loud,” Izuku mumbled. He sighed. “But you’re warm.” Shouto huffed a small laugh. Shaking his head, he kissed Izuku’s head again. Then, he whispered, “I love you, ‘Zuku.” Izuku hummed with content. “I love you, Shou’.” With the warmth of one another to ward off the war outside, they fell asleep, tangled together in a mess of limbs. And, love.
It took so long for Shouyou to realize he loved Kageyama Tobio. So natural, the feelings that shifted from friendship to romantic, he couldn’t pinpoint an exact moment when he fell into the warmth of his affections.
He questions if he should say something.
Before a practice match, Shouyou sips from his water bottle. Yamaguchi is talking with Yachi and Tsukishima as they discuss tactics for the match.
Tobio sits in the corner, filing his nails.
Shouyou walks over and leans against the wall next to him.
“Bakageyama,” Shouyou says. He scuffs a foot against the wooden floor. “Are you ready?”
Tobio raises an eyebrow as he moves the file to his pinky. “For the match? Sure.”
“Seijoh has always been a fun team to play against.” Shouyou scans the room of the volleyball nets arranged by the younger teammates. He wonders how many of them will see practice time.
“Yeah,” Tobio says. “Oikawa texted me earlier saying his kouhai would kick our asses.”
A flicker of jealousy rests in his stomach. He’s not sure why but maybe it’s because of how pretty, interesting, and skilled Oikawa is. And how his banter with Tobio keeps replaying in Shouyou’s head.
Shouyou shrugs it off with a laugh. “I hope they bring their best.”
“They will,” Tobio says, confidence lacing his tone. “Volleyball is fun.”
Shouyou snickers. “Yeah, it is.”
Yachi walks by, furiously scribbling on a clipboard. Shouyou should ask her for updated stats after the match.
Tobio places his file down and away in his travel case, and then into his bag. Shouyou watches him. His hands are so big. Shouyou wonders—
He reaches out his hand before he realizes what he’s done. Tobio looks up, eyes wide as Shouyou traces a vein near his knuckles.
Entranced, Shouyou asks: “Do you regret coming to Karasuno?”
“No.” Tobio stares at Shouyou’s slow tracing of his hand.
“Why not?”
“We built a strong team. Been to nationals.” He inhales. “I made friends.”
The beginning of the question stings Shouyou’s tongue.
“Do you like being friends? With me?”
Tobio swallows. “Yes.”
Shouyou smiles. “Good.” He took the easier route but this was progress. He didn’t have to ask him right now. When he was ready, he’d know.
Shouyou stays there, touching Tobio’s fingers, his knuckles, the back of his hand. They don’t say much until Yamaguchi and Coach call them to stand.
The lingering heat rests nicely in Shouyou’s heart. Nice, smooth, and natural. It’s how his feelings grew, how he’d eventually ask his question.
He looks to Tobio and smiles. A blush crosses Tobio’s face and he looks away.
Yes, he decides. He would romance Tobio. In all the ways the boy deserved.
