track 5: “tolerate it” --impressionable, young, & closeted

Disclaimer: This is just my personal opinion and theory based on Taylor’s lyrics. I think her music can be interpreted in many ways. Based on her past clues and lyrics, I think it is possible that Taylor could be part of the LGBT community, and this could be her way of telling us in this album. I think it is okay for queer fans to interpret this song in a queer way, and it’s not bad to do so because Taylor encourages interpretations & it’s not a bad thing to be LGBT+

Taylor: “ I decided on track five because of the lyrics of ‘tolerate it’ and how it’s so visual, and conveys such a specific kind of hurt. “

To me, this specific hurt can be described as the pain of someone who you really look up to not accepting you for who you are. I can relate to this, especially as a young kid. I would constantly look up to my teachers, older friends, etc. wondering in the back of my mind: Would you still like me like this if you knew my secret? It is such a specific hurt that I think many, if not all, LGBT+ people have related to at some point in their lives. With that in mind, let’s dive in…

We all look up to someone and want to be like them. We change our behavior to make ourselves more likeable, more mature for the person we admire because they’re so cool, they know what they’re doing, you want to be just like them, right? Most of all, you crave their acceptance. You want to appear as cool as they think you are.

Scott Borchetta took a chance on Taylor when he saw her at the Bluebird Cafe. She took a chance on him, too. They were both starting out fresh in the industry. It was a new beginning, Taylor of course had this dream and would do anything to make it come true. Scott had a dream of having his own record label. She put out her best songs, strengthened her voice, and stayed true to who she was. And he supported her then. She made him successful.

This verse breaks my heart. This is so reminiscent of a young LGBT+ kid being told that “it’s just a phase,” “you’re too young to know,” and “don’t tell anyone.” Or it’s dismissed completely. It’s a shame, a dirty secret. Taylor knew her love wasn’t wrong, but yet Scott still tried to stifle this in her. He “tolerated” it.

Despite the pain, she still tries her best to be what he wants, fit her mold, do what she has to to make them both successful. This is her dream, right? She believes him that this is the right thing to do.

He betrayed her by selling her masters without her consent or knowledge – to the very man who she cried on his shoulder about, Scooter. Taylor put her everything into both hers and Scott’s careers. She made Big Machine. All she wants is her music, her life story. But instead, she has to constantly defend herself from his attacks on her character and business ethics.

I think this could be her asking: “What would you do if I decided to come clean about all of this? What would happen if I told everyone my truth despite your best efforts to conceal it? I could do it. I’m stronger than ever. I don’t need you. I could do it.”

-I have a sneaky suspicion that Taylor will either perform in Times Square on NYE or she will drop the Lavender Haze music video (or both).

-Karlie and the devil's contract ends at midnight on December 31, 2022. This is consistent with all of the '22' signals about a 'divorce' and 'last client'.

-They may have a sunset clause from January 1 until March (hence the capital M on March). A sunset clause would mean no more stunting. Just financial payouts. Keep in mind that Thrive Capital always announces its "Fund" results in February. So he would not want a 'divorce' announced until the fund closes. Perhaps Karlie gets some financial payout for this in the sunset period since he always stunts hard with her at this time of year due to the 'fund' drive.

The beard is officially 'killed' and the one or two could be the two months between contract end date - December 31, and sunset clause end date - March).

-The last sentence [Goodbye, see you on tour] in French, could mean several things. First, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 anon is going to the tour, too! Second, international tour dates are coming soon (hence the use of French language). Third, a good bye to us, and reminding us of the song Paris (which we believe is significant to Kaylor). Fourth, goodbye' to a beard.

To be bigly optimistic: Taylor is performing on NYE and dropping Lavender Haze, Karlie is done with Jerk on December 31, 2022, and Taylor is dropping Toe ('goodbye) no later than March. There is no sunset clause. Rather, Kaylor walks into the sunset in March!

This is important

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:

IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.

1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.

2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.

3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”

4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”

5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.

TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.
