LOVE magdalena bay. like genuine affection. listened to mercurial world for the first time today and it’s so excellent, so far beyond what most pop artists are putting out these days. it’s so refreshing to see an artist with a sort of antitheatrical speaking persona, who prioritizes the album over the individual track, and is asking engaging original artistic question with pop music- to know that it’s still possible in the digital age, especially as commentary ON the digital age, is just such a relief. genuinely makes me believe that pop art/“art-pop” is not dead
you know vatican city i’m actually jobsearching myself at the minute

The word lana (wool) in languages such as Spanish is etymologically related to English wool. For words to be related, they don't have to look like each other. Instead, you have to be able to trace them back to the same ancestor through regular sound changes - and that's what linguists managed to do with wool and lana. The infographic shows the Germanic and Romance family trees of these words.
Listening to Radiohead when you're not depressed is so funny. A job that slowly kills you 😁 bruises that won't heal 🐬🌈🫧
Americans giving Australians shit for calling a minor traffic accident a "prang" or a "bingle" as though "fender bender" is not the goofiest possible thing to call two cars crashing into each other. Like, at least the Aussie version doesn't rhyme!
Hey, happy Earth Day! Who wants to talk about climate change?
Yeah, okay, fair, I kinda figured the answer to that would be "ugh do we have to?" What if I told you I have good news though? Good news with caveats, but still good news.
What if I told you that since the Paris Agreement in 2015, we've avoided a whole degree celsius of global warming by 2100, or maybe more?
Current projections are 2.7C, which is way better than the 3-5C (with a median of 3.7C) we were expecting in 2015. It's not where we want to be - 1.5C - but it is big, noticeable progress!
And it's not like we either hit 1.5C and avoid all the big scary consequences or fail to hit 1.5C and get all of them - every tenth of a degree of warming we avoid is going to prevent more severe problems like extreme weather, sea level rise, etc.
This means that climate change mitigation efforts are having a noticeable impact! This means a dramatically better, safer future - and if we keep pushing, we could lower the amount of global warming we end up with even further. This is huge progress, and we need to celebrate it, even though the fight isn't over.
It's working. Keep going.

i sincerely enjoy how many tiktok comedians who i already liked are getting into the youtube commentary game. it feels right, career-trajectory wise. and now i can watch long-form work from them on youtube (a website i visit every day) instead of short-form work on tiktok (an app i open maybe once every two months) or reposted to instagram reels (which i find myself mindlessly scrolling through often only to look at the comment sections and be exposed to some of the most awful shit i've ever seen get said)
