not to post about supernatural in almost 2024 or anything but i think that sam and dean were incredibly fucked up kids who killed for a living and we never really got to see that side of them in the early seasons. they kill because it's the justice their dad taught them and they kill for each other and they kill each other and their world is so far removed from anything ok or normal and i think the writers should have made us scared of them and how far they would go for each other

He's thinking alright

He kept Cas' bloody trenchcoat and carried it around from car to car.

He stayed a year in Purgatory even though the way back home, back to his baby brother (!!!), was right there. And he prayed to Cas, EVERY NIGHT.

He was on his knees, REFUSING TO FIGHT BACK, telling Cas HE NEEDED HIM and breaking Cas' brainwashing.

He gave Cas a MIXTAPE with songs of his favourite band which his parents FELL IN LOVE TO.

He fell to his knees. He just couldn't make himself leave Cas' body. He was completely SHATTERED.

He then carried Cas' body to the cabin. And prepared it for the hunter's funeral. ALONE.

And he begged GOD himself to bring Cas back.

And he fell to his knees in the land of monsters and prayed to Cas for his forgiveness.

And every time Cas came back to him, Dean found his hope and will to live again.

And I guess I'm writing all that because if Cas had been in a female vessel no one would utter a single doubt that this was a ROMANCE. And why is that ??? Because Dean and Cas' story was written as a LOVE STORY.

cas healing dean is always great, but there is something about cas healing dean when they are angry at each other like "we might not be in good terms right now but i won't simply let you suffer if i can avoid it because i love you" and like i do think that's such an important reminder for dean because you know he is there afraid of messing up and losing cas but cas heals him and he knows there is this spark of hope about them making things right

Ok so Neil said they're "not talking" so my guess is that in s3e1 we could actually get two flashbacks, a cold open of the Fall (to show just how cruel Heaven truly is) and also a very romantic yet angsty 1941 pt.3 featuring an almost-kiss, to reaffirm just how deep their pining, fear and denial have been. The rest of the episode is scenes of them being separate and miserable.

And then in s3e2 they're reunited because they have to work together and it's awkward and tense but also funny and silly because they're both being very English and painfully polite about it and of course completely avoiding talking about the kiss, but they keep getting visibly flustered every time they accidentally touch or make eye contact and the romantic/sexual tension just builds and builds...

Dean *teaching Jack how to drive*: ok, you see me, Cas, and Sam walking, what do you hit?

Jack: um..... The breaks?

Dean: no, you gun it and hit ME at full speed-
