He shot his Dad a grin and two thumbs up. Eli could smell the older wolf was anxious – after all, his only son was going to college, leaving him alone with his crazy husband. Anyone would be nervous about that.

От Дерека веет зимним воздухом. Он наклоняется над Стайлзом, лежащем под одеялом, и нежно целует в висок, будто бы через губы пытаясь забрать все невзгоды. Стилински отрицательно мычит, хотя бы реагируя. Немного опухший, бледный и уставший. Хейл гладит его волосы, чувствуя неровности — Стайлз вчера криво подстригся ножницами в порыве.

— Таблетки помогают? Голова не болит?

Дерек совсем не был готов к подобному. Он явно ожидал, конечно, но… Какой человек будет готовым к тому, что его любимый человек будет увядать на его глазах?

Нет, иногда Стайлз разговаривает с ним, буквально не затыкаясь. Смотрит сериалы или что-то читает, лёжа с ним на узкой кровати. Улыбается и даже смеётся, но всё чаще… Он выглядит вот так.

Прикованный к кровати, беззащитный и пустой.

Хейл ещё пару минут разглядывает его. Гладит по щеке, целует руку, переплетает пальцы. Ему хватает ночи, чтобы соскучиться, а того и нескольких часов — раньше такого не было, но сейчас кажется, что если не увидит Стайлза сегодня, то больше никогда не сможет увидеть.

Стилински чувствует сквозь полудрёму, как его укутывают в одеяло и поднимают гусеницей с постели. Дерек молча несёт его вниз, а спустя минуту в лицо Стайлза врезается прохладный ветер. Уличный воздух так сильно отличается от его душной комнатушки, что приходится хватать его ртом, словно рыбе на суше. Глаза щиплет от недавних слёз и пыли, и он не боится упасть, вертясь и поворачивая голову в сторону ночного неба, зная, что Дерек держит крепко. И никогда не отпустит.

И это единственное, что держит Стайлза на плаву.
