Self Care And Self Love - But, Make It Magical

Self Care and Self Love - But, Make It Magical

Self Care And Self Love - But, Make It Magical

If you're like me, you may have a very difficult time with very basic self-care activities and practicing witchcraft regularly. Because of depression, I often have a difficult time motivating myself to care for myself simply and cultivate my craft because I deserve it. So, I try to incorporate magic and deities into it to give me a boost of motivation. Here are some of the things I do and feel free to add your own!

Please note that this is all my own unverified personal gnosis.

Sustenance

Dedicate your meal prep and cooking to your domestic/agrarian diety. I typically dedicate my meal prep and cooking in general to Hestia and Dionysus. Hestia being the domestic goddess; I associate Dionysus with decadence and pleasure, so I honor him by making delicious, higher quality, more nutritious meals.

Make your food a spell. Plan your spices and ingredients accordingly. Food is a medicine; don't underestimate the intentions and power of your food as a spell. I find these "spells" are exceptionally powerful when trying to influence your personality, beauty, and behavior. For example, a glamor or beauty spell made with foods associated with beauty. My favorite is a salad bowl with quinoa, avocado, sweet potato, and tomatoes - ingredients all associated with healthy skin and youthfulness.

Drink water. Honestly, it's the stuff of life. How rejuvenating is water? It also has so many magical associations and properties. Various water deities, it's a natural element, it is cleansing, etc. Staying hydrated will make you feel magical.

Hygiene

Skincare! Washing, moisturizing, and sunscreen! But, now it's dedicated to the deity of love and beauty. You may also want to say a prayer over your products, or perhaps cast a glamour or other spell on them. I always wash my face immediately after work as I feel the cleansing of the face is very energetically cleansing.

Showering/bathing. Easy cleansing. Also, a great time to harness the energy of water, manifest, commune with water deities or spirits, and meditate.

Use scented soap, lotion, etc to your advantage. Use scents that have a correspondence that resonates with you. I love doing this and as a rule, I have different scents for times when I'm at work and when I'm at home. While at work, I prefer energizing scents like citrus or mints. While at home, I prefer sultry or soothing scents like sandalwood or lavender. You can also dedicate the use of a certain scent to specific deities, such as sandalwood being associated with Aphrodite.

Activities

Spend time truly relaxing and doing nothing else. Rest, watch TV, listen to music, anything that is your equivalent of being switched off. For me, this is a time to connect with deities like Hypnos and Pasithea, or even Eriene. You can even watch shows that you think certain deities would like. Don't feel guilty about doing this. Everyone needs rest. Sometimes I envision my figurative battery recharging. I find this time very important for replenishing energy expelled in mundane and magical activities.

Work on your hobbies. Whatever your hobby, you will certainly be able to find some diety to dedicate the time to, or perhaps the product. Hobbies can be a great way to make "sacrifices" to your deities. Depending on your hobby, you can also listen to audiobooks and podcasts that help you learn about witchcraft or paganism. Also depending on your hobby, you may infuse it with magic. For example, you can find many spells involving weaving or knotting if you use yarn or fabric in your hobby. Hobbies have sooo many possibilities for magic.

Exercise. This one is really difficult for me as I really do not like to exercise on my work days, but I work five days a week. However, exercising can be extremely meditative and euphoric. It is a great time to connect with your body, practice controlling your mind, and learn/increase your limits. I find that, personally, exercise is also a good time for shadowwork and introspection. Furthermore, I'm Hellenic, and events like the Olympics are highly associated with Hellenism. So, I've been trying to really associate caring for my body and pursuing fitness as a divine undertaking.

Mental Health

Enjoy the nature around you. Enjoy the natural plants, enjoy trees, birds, the air, storms, etc. Anything that makes you feel connected to the world around you. To me, this is a significant way to replenish and grow my energy. Spending time in nature is really good for our mental health - this will make you a more focused witch. More focus = better casting, manifestation, etc. You can even combine the outdoors with exercise.

Harness your emotions. You aren't going to feel good all the time, you aren't going to feel bad all the time. However, every emotion is valid and carries power/energy. If you're mad, do the hex you've been wanting to do - it will be stronger than ever. If you're happy and finding love and humor in the world - abundance spells and manifestation will be enhanced. Don't be afraid of your emotions. Using them in magic is a great way to confront them directly and learn to be comfortable with having a full range of emotions. I've noticed many people are taught that anger, for example, is bad and many of those people grow up to be uncomfortable with negative emotions.

Journal, especially gratitude journals. Honestly, life-changing, but for me, very hard to commit to. I try to use this time to also speak with and receive messages from my deities. Also to connect with and understand my subconscious more. You can even incorporate this into your grimoire. I often look for themes in my journal entries that lead me to cast spells or direct my research. I use this space to also track the patterns I've been seeing which helps with discernment; recognizing the difference between my mind grasping at straws, coincidences, and signs.

How to research traditional witchcraft in your area (mostly for america)

Look up the big stuff first. "Desert witchcraft" "mississippi river lore" etc. Rivers, mountain ranges, and biomes are your friends, and you'll get more results from "prairie witchcraft" than "Iowa witchcraft"

If you live near a natural park, see if it has lore or spirits associated with it. I guarantee you'll get some results about the lore behind Yellowstone or the grand canyon

Bookstores and libraries are your friends! There's no better places to find local lore, recipes, and if you're lucky, some witchy bits.

The local spirits know this land best. Where I live, the spirit of a local hero is a better guide to the land than most who live on it.

Visit the local cemetery, and research those that are buried there (there are almost always large memorials for those who did notable things, they'll be easier to research). Let those buried there call to you while you're there too.

Old. People. Ask them about the monuments, landmarks, superstitions and listen to them.

Witch Safety Tip:

Don't burn cinnamon or cassia. I know it smells delicious. I know it has the cleansing power we all dream of. But cinnamon is a SEVERE respiratory irritant. Even if your lungs are healthy, it can cause lung scarring. If your lungs are less than flawless? Disaster.

That includes cinnamon oil.

Cinnamon scented candles are fine, because they're stabilized.

Heating cinnamon or cinnamon oil up is fine.

Just don't burn it.

Bonus Tip: don't put cinnamon on your skin. ESPECIALLY NOT CINNAMON OIL. We use cinnamon oil to strip varnish from furniture. Back in ye olde days of the 2010s, people mixed cinnamon powder with water to give themselves a facial peel. They peeled their flesh right off! Cinnamon can give you third degree chemical burns.

Aphrodite wants you to know this holiday season

You can eat.

You are loved if not by your family then by the gods.

You matter if you do or don’t follow the gender/sexual “norms.”

No matter where you are the gods are with you. They will listen, you’re loved, you’re amazing, they love your “ugly” Christmas sweater (I do too, you look bomb.)

Have a wonderful holiday!

Aphrodite is in every one of us, we are all beautiful

"Multiplicity is an essential feature of the Greek god: Hesiod’s Aphrodite is not identical to the Aphrodite in the Iliad, nor is the Aphrodite of Sparta the same as the one of Athens. Even within the same city, the goddess offers more than one facet, depending on the location of her cults and the epithet she carries."

I’ll have to try this some time

💕  Little Everyday Aphrodite Spells 💕

image

Here are a compilation of Aphrodite spells that you can practice almost everyday. I personally find myself doing most of these things out of habit.

I hope you guys enjoy! Criticism is always allowed, and I highly appreciate the notes and likes :P

Also feel free to ask questions, I’m always happy to answer! And if you want me to post about something, let me know.

Aphrodite's  balm

This spell is one you make once, and then can use it everyday. Apply it every morning on your wrist, neck, behind your ears, elbows, etc.

Ingredients

💕 1 ½ teaspoons beeswax beads

💕1/4 cup sweet almond oil

💕1 teaspoon vitamin E oil

💕2 drops vanilla oil

💕1 drop rose oil

💕2 drops jasmine oil

💕Almond oil

💕Sweet orange oil

💕Amber oil

💕A small jar/container to store the balm in

Directions

Melt the bees wax and sweet almond oil in a clean container/can in a sauce pan of water (Half full). Put the heat on medium and let the water melt the oils and wax. Remove the melted ingredients from the heat and with oven mitts remove the container. Now is the time to add in your essential oils and vitamin E oil. Stir in with a popsicle stick. Let the mixture cool slightly, but not enough to harden completely. Now stir again and add to your jar/container and then let harden completely.

Now you can enchant this object and I highly suggest calling upon Aphrodite to bless your creation, although this is completely optional.

When you want to use it, warm the product with your fingertips and scoop enough to apply as you would a solid perfume.

Immaculate Beauty Spell

- An edible spell that makes you feel like a god/goddess

This one you can make in the morning and night, and always puts me in a good mood.

Ingredients

💕Hot chocolate mix of choice - Self-love, Nurturing, Love, Balance

💕Dark/bittersweet chocolate - Love, Romance

💕Almond milk or any milk of choice

💕Vanilla - Attraction

💕Cinnamon - Power, lust, success

Directions

Heat up milk, then add your hot chocolate mix. Melt your real chocolate, and add vanilla and cinnamon. Let it sit on the heat for a couple more minutes. Pour into a favored mug, or one that is enchanted. Top with anything you’d like.

Spell of Sweet Speech

- A spell to sweeten your voice and words

This is a spell I do every morning when I start my skincare and makeup ritual. I learned it when I first started the craft.

Ingredients

💕Honey (Or agave nectar)

💕A spoonful of sugar

Directions

Take your ingredients, enough to coat your lips, and mix them together. Then using your thumb (this represents will power and will boost the spell) smooth the mixture over your lips. Envision what this spell will do for you, and think of your intent in your mind.

Other little things:

Enchanting all your skincare/beauty products

Burning pink and white candles every morning

Taking your time to pamper yourself (Proper hygiene, baths, skincare)

Doing the things you love ❤️

Thank you for visiting my blog,

and all the love, from Angelica

I love you all! My DMs, mail, and comments are always open!

xoxo, Angel.

Divination with Playing Cards

In response to this ask I got earlier today, I decided to do a quick deep-dive into my research materials about divining with playing cards vs tarot cards. Here's the research I found in Old Tradition Crafte, translated by Robin Artissan (2005):

"Meanings may be assigned to a pack of playing cards, to be spread out and read as omens so a situation may be given clarity and direction as well as understanding." This style of reading is claimed to have been used by witches in the 18th-late 19th century, according to Old Tradition Crafte translated by Robin Artissan (2005). According to Artissan, "It has been taken from those who practice the North Berwick Style of Crafte, but is not old enough to be the original system. The cards used in this system are ordinary playing cards. There is no mention of Tarot cards in this system."

Sometimes self care is telling yourself "this sucks and I don't want to do it, but it needs to get done before I can feel better" and then forcing yourself through it as an investment in your future self.
