The thing I really love about Cody’s story in “The Solitary Clone” is that he reflected on what happened and his reality on his own, that his realizations were his own, nobody beat it into his head, nobody had to shake him away, Cody did that on all his own. Cody’s ability to think for himself, to navigate his way through his own mind, was what brought him through the conditioning in his head. That doesn’t have to negate that the Jedi’s effect on the clones was foundational and tremendous, that they helped give the clones the chance to grow into these people. But it also is still Cody’s own damn work on his own damn mind that brought him to where he was. The thing I really don’t love about Cody’s story in “The Solitary Clone” is that he could have been replaced with just about any other character and it would have had nearly as much impact, because this was a story about Crosshair, not about Cody. We never even see Cody’s realization or the moment he leaves, Cody was set dressing for Crosshair’s story, and wound up being a cameo more than actually getting a story. I’m not opposed to every single episode of the show having a cameo–even if I think they’re relying too heavily on them to draw in viewers and thus undercutting the idea that these characters might actually get a hefty story being told about them, instead of having it done in tiny snippets here and there. But that’s my frustration with Cody’s story, that what’s there isn’t bad, but because he’s a cameo in someone else’s story, his story is told in the background and we only see half of it. Cody deserves better than to have his story told that way.
“You two could at least say hello,” Wymack said, somewhat aggrieved.
“There’s no point,” Kevin said. “All they are is a distraction.“
"It’s called a support network. Look it up."
"Thea is watching from South tonight,” Kevin said, looking to the elevated VIP box. It was too far away and too high up for Neil to make out any faces, but there was a small crowd gathered at the windowed walls already. Knowing the Court was here to watch them play sent a chill through Neil’s veins. Kevin dragged his stare back to Wymack’s face and said, “and my father comes to all of my games. That is enough."
On Wymack’s other side, Abby’s gaze softened. Wymack’s jaw worked for a moment before he could say in an even tone, "Your mother would be proud of you."
"Not just of me,” Kevin said in a rare bout of humanity.

my scene for the @giveyourbacktome-zine! I had so much fun working on this and I was lucky to snag a #dadscene :D
WHOEVER WAS IN CHARGE OF WRITING CODY'S LINES THIS EPISODE NEEDS A MEDAL OF SOME SORTS BC GODDAMN
Was today real? We feel like we made it up. All Too Well: The Short Film is just as incredible seven months later, and today’s Tribeca Storytellers Talk with Taylor, Sadie Sink, Dylan O’Brien, and Mike Mills made us remember that all too well!

Ghost from the past Do you think how the last time Obi-Wan saw that face it was Cody giving back his lightsaber because I do
So I’m on AO3 and I see a lot of people who put “I do not own [insert fandom here]” before their story.
Like, I came on this site to read FAN fiction. This is a FAN fiction site. I’m fully aware that you don’t own the fandom or the characters. That’s why it’s called FAN FICTION.
Bad Batch episode three Cody rant-
yes, Cody DID learn a lot from Obi-Wan, such as how to negotiate properly, but i think it’s also important to recognize that that’s just who Cody is and who he always has been.
Cody has ALWAYS been undeniably kind and has ALWAYS had a good sense of right and wrong. this is why he’s universally loved by every single clone we see- the Batch who hated regs loved him from the start, including Crosshair. every battalion we saw him interact with has always had a DEEP respect for him because he is, fundamentally, a GOOD person. he’s one of the best people we see in all of Star Wars.
that’s not something he learned from Obi-Wan. thats just who he is. and i think that’s something Obi-Wan really loved about him.
Cody is to the bone a kind and caring person. he is extremely loyal to those he loves and there is nothing that matters more to him than those he considers his family- that’s why he was calling his troops by their name, even when no one else was. that’s why he was genuinely distraught when Nova died, and had to be bodily pulled away from him even thought his own life was at risk. that’s why he was kind to Crosshair even though no one else was willing to even sit with him.
Cody is his own person, just as Obi-Wan is his own person, and while they absolutely have a lot of similar traits, those aren’t things they gained from each other.
Cody didn’t suddenly start being kind because Obi-Wan taught him that- we know he’s been like that since he was taking Rex under his wing on Kamino, and did the same with every other troop he encountered. he’s just an intrinsically caring and deeply kind brother. he didn’t decide to start vying for peace because he thinks Obi-Wan is dead. Cody’s ALWAYS been a fair person tries to hear everyone out. that is just who he inherently is, just as that’s who Obi-Wan inherently is, and that is the reason they love each other so much.
i think the reason this episode was so good at showing just how good of a person Cody is comes from the fact that he is alone. he is entirely in command. there is no Obi-Wan there, there’s no one he has to listen to, he is the sole commander here. and yet, even at the pressure of his superior officer, he doesn’t loose his morals at all, and consistently shows how kind and sweet he is. he isn’t doing that because of Obi-Wan, he’s doing that because it’s who he is, even with the inhibitor chip.
of COURSE he would question the Empire and leave as soon as the chip started wearing off, and of COURSE he’d carry the guilt of Order 66 squarely on his shoulders. he is a great example of someone who knows right from wrong and people who ever questioned him don’t understand his character at ALL.
Is it weird that I actually love chaol? And I've pretty much liked him the entire time? I say that because it seems to me that people dislike chaol for the same reasons they dislike Nesta, and god knows I'm here for the Nesta slander. Idk it's like everyone in that series is an asshole and I feel like he's the one who 1. Tells aelin the fears that a lot of people have surrounding the fae and magic and 2. Has the most realistic arc where he realizes that he's been enabling this unjust system. I get everyone likes to think that they would go down fighting or whatever and immediately call out injustice...when in reality most people are actually like chaol
