There's something about the way Hannibal says "Love" so plainly and immediately because that's truly what it is. The way he just breathes it out almost like a sigh, "Love," like he adores just saying the word when it comes in the context of Will. And the way the notes of the piano punctuate his words... It's said plain and simple, but in reality it carries so much weight.
It carries the weight of their entire relationship prior to this- betrayal and forgiveness and all... "bones and all." Loving Will gives Hannibal great joy, but it has also caused him great sorrow. Here Hannibal acknowledges that his love for Will is "beyond his conscious ability to control or predict," which mirrors his words from earlier in the episode:
"You cannot control with respect to whom you fall in love."
This scene has always stood out to me, and it's still one of my favorite moments. When I was doing my anniversary post series and came up with the idea to do the quotes for each episode, what I immediately thought of was this-
"Love. He pays you a visit or he doesn't."
I think it's safe to say Love has certainly paid Hannibal Lecter a visit.

Just rewatched my favorite movie the other day-- still 5 stars. I finally got my sister to watch it with me and she really enjoyed it, but now she won't stop quoting the infamous Italian scene...
Found this article on the Brazilian painter Fábio Magalhães' hyperealistic oil paintings from his collection called Between Life and Death; I think they are very beautiful. I'll put just a couple of his works here but all of them can be found in the article that I've linked along with an interview.
"When I use my imagination to create what we could call metaphors of a body-image, I believe it deals with strategies that I use to bring the private universe and common sense closer to human nature. As I present these images in the painting format, I intend to draw attention to the actions, often incomprehensible, that man has been facing in various parts of the world, whether they are close, distant or in a virtual state."

The way Hannibal sees Will, and how Will sees Hannibal.
Their perception of one another for sure, but there's this fact that they reflect each other. Two standing mirrors, face to face: Will sees his own beast within when looking at Hannibal, and Hannibal sees the light he still owns in his soul. The ability to love so intensely, and the state of being comfortably violent. Two aspects of them people mostly assume nonexistent.
10 years ago today, "Secondo" first aired (June 18, 2015).
"Love."
"What your sister made you feel was beyond your conscious ability to control or predict... I would suggest what Will Graham makes you feel is not dissimilar. A force of mind and circumstance."
"Love. He pays you a visit or he doesn't."

"Betrayal and forgiveness are best seen as something more akin to falling in love."
"You cannot control with respect to whom you fall in love."

Here is the song that Hannibal was playing in the clip above:
10 years ago today, "Antipasto" first aired (June 4, 2015).
"Once upon a time..."
"At this point, there is absolutely nothing I have to do. But I don't want to spoil the fairy tale, do I? You and your gingerbread house."
"Let it be a fairy tale, then. Once upon a time…"
