My Not-so-Deep, Not-so-Serious Explanation on Why This Could Totally be Canon

So... with Chapter 118 in bsd releasing, I have noticed a lot of Fyodor as Atsushi's father related things popping up and... I'm not mad about.

If anything, I'm happy the theory is getting more attention. People even seem to be taking it as canon fact, even if just jokingly.

Really, I believed the theory was plausible since it first was brought up in the fandom, but I never actually thought it would be canon because that just seemed too crazy. But those were the thoughts of a sweet summer child since the manga has gotten to the point where that might be the least crazy thing possible.

So, here I am at my keyboard yet again, ready to ramble about how, if this does somehow turn out to be canon, this might be actually rather predictable even to those who don't dive deep into the nitty-gritty lore.

Now, I won't ramble on and on endlessly about the book and Atsushi's ambiguous past and how he may be the book or a page from the book and yaddy-yadda. Instead, I'll focus on some key aspects of Atsushi's character design. First off...

His hair.

As I said, this is not all that serious or deep, so take my words with a grain of salt before you start bashing me or something for being ridiculous. You signed up for ridiculous when you started reading past the title.

Anyway, back to Atsushi's hair.

As we almost all know, Atsushi used to have a black streak in his hair that was later removed for unknown reasons, but he also has white hair.

Now, I could jokingly proclaim, "Hehe, biologically impossible Fyodor x Nikolai lovechild," and be done with it, but I am no clown, unlike Nikolai. No, I have a better, probably completely wrong, idea.

Most of us know that Fyodor has a thing for white-haired men.

Exhibit A: Every fucking member of the Decay of Angels

I rest my case.

Also, I feel the need to mention that 3 out of 6 of them have red-ish eyes while the other two have purple-ish/blue eyes. Just pointing out that little tidbit I noticed while finding pics for them.

So, it would make sense for Fyodor to pick and choose which attributes to give to his quote-on-quote "son" when he made him from the book, picking out certain traits he found appealing and pleasing to the eye.

(Also, yes, this could mean that Fyodor could have chose specific attributes that were similar to Nikolai. Boom, lovechild route.)

This could explain certain similarities between the characters who seemingly have no biological connection between one another. Their only connection then only being through Fyodor by just knowing him.

Got all that? Alright, next up...

His eyes.

Now, Atsushi's eyes are rather unique, even for the world of Bungou Stray Dogs. What also sticks out about them is the fact that they are pointed out and focused in from time to time.

To break down the colors of his eyes... While in normal lighting in the anime, they appear to be normally purple and yellow with just a hint of green in it, but under the full moon (as seen here) we can see that his eyes are a light green-yellow at the bottom and purple on the top that fades into blue.

(There are also a few times where his eyes also change while using his ability. Like when they turn almost fully yellow.)

I want to point out the colors of his eyes and the fact that they change due to certain circumstances (i.e: using his ability, being under the full moon), which is clearly not normal in their world seeing as how other ability users don't seem to do that at all.

(Edit here: I actually would like to mention that, in the manga, Nikolai's eyes also change color. The green one sometimes will change to match his normal eye whenever he uncovers it. I saw a theory talking about how it might change depending on whether or not he is lying at the time, which is pretty neat. More Atsushi and Nikolai parallels.)

Now, this might seem like a bit of a stretch just like the rest of this post, but the colors used for his eyes are similar to the eye colors of people Fyodor knows, though they are different shades.

Purple like Fukuchi. Green and blue from Nikolai.

Fyodor's eyes are also a shade of purple, kind of, so... Yeah, that works too, but Fukuchi's shade of eyes are closer to Atsushi's.

Yeah, that's all I can think of now and this is already way too long (if I start talking about Atsushi's mysterious past, I'm going to make this a mile long. Maybe later tho), so I'm ending it here for now.

the things they do when they love you

⤷ ft. dazai, chuuya, ranpo, fyodor, sigma, tecchou, jouno

dazai always needs to be touching you. he starts his day with his forehead against yours in the comfort of his futon, legs tangled together. he barely makes it through work by playing footsie with you under his desk, resisting the urge to shower you with love under kunikida’s watchful eye. on the walk home, his hand lingers on the small of your back as he guides you through the crowded street, careful to not let anyone bump into you. and when it’s time to rest again, you strip him of his bandages and trace your fingertips along his forearms and wrists, trailing kisses down skin that haven’t felt human touch in who knows how long, making up for all the little touches he gave you through the day.

chuuya spoils you rotten. he has money to spare, and has no problems adding your needs into his monthly budget, but he spoils you in other, non-financial ways too. he notices the bags under your eyes, and turns off your alarm so you can get an extra few minutes of sleep, keeping track of the time so you aren’t late. he warms up your towels in the dryer while you’re in the shower so you won’t be cold when you get out. he’ll watch that one show you like, as corny as it may be, because he wouldn’t miss you laughing so prettily at the stupid jokes for the world.

ranpo compares everyone else to you. for someone who thought he was the greatest, he really loved to talk about how great you were. “y/n’s coffee tastes better.” he comments with a shrug to the waitress, who has no idea who you are. “that would look so cute on y/n!” when yosano is showing him the new shirt she bought, much to her disdain. “you’re so boring! why can’t y/n be here instead.” he pouts in front of the witness he’s interviewing. there may or may not be a group of people in yokohama who unintentionally hate you.

fyodor asks what you think — not just about his work, about everything. he wants to pick your brain apart and analyze everything about you, from how you like your tea to your opinion on how greek philosophy influenced modern christianity. he wants to be the only one who knows you so well; it only seems fair when he feels so annoyingly vulnerable around you, knowing you’ve captured his heart.

sigma lets his guard down around you. you never have an ulterior motive or try to read him. you ask questions about himself out of pure curiosity, and in return he tries to memorize everything he can about you. there’s so much he doesn’t know, and you teach him as much as you can; not so you can use him, but because you want him to experience life to the fullest. when you wrap your arms around him, letting him rest his head on top of yours, he can’t help but think about how long he’s dreamed of this, and now he finally has it: his home.

tecchou looks at you, almost always. you can’t ignore the tingly feeling of his eyes on you as you’re folding laundry or brushing your hair. when you ask him, you half expect him to blink and snap out of it, but he never does. “i like looking at you. you’re pretty.” is what he always says, gaze never straying from behind his messy bangs.

jouno listens to every part of you. while the extra noise that comes with his ability is bothersome, your sounds calm him. any irregularity in your heartbeat or your breathing makes a nervousness he isn’t used to surge through his body. he can’t help but feel prideful at the way your heartbeat is so calm when your fingers, so much softer than any fabric, brush against his own. he can’t see you, but he can hear the blood rush to your cheeks and the smile in your voice when you talk to him about your day.

BSD Theory: Time Travel

Before chapter 113 comes out and BSD in general progresses, I'd just like to get out this half-baked theory/observation that I'm not going to think too hard about and you shouldn't either. I'll admit I haven't checked the information in a while.

So, assuming the anime putting Fyodor in the ADA backstory was actually done with Asagiri's approval as a coherent piece of the plot, there are two things I want to note:

Fyodor looked the same age as he does in canon. This has been used to suggest that he's really old, but even old people change at least a little in twelve years.

He said that "V" referred to "five", and, later, we find out that "five" refers to the five members of the DoA.

Sigma, one of the five Decay members, was created from the book three years before the events of canon. Nine years after we first heard "V" mentioned.

This leaves us with a few options. Firstly and most likely: I'm an idiot. Second: there were different members that ended up being replaced by Sigma, or else Sigma has existed for longer, and everyone is either lying about his backstory, or something happened to him to make him lose his memories, and Fyodor tracked him down and brought him back into the DoA.

Finally, and in my opinion the most interesting theory: Fyodor is time travelling. I don't necessarily think that that's what's happening, but I saw someone suggest it, and this is, I think, a good piece of evidence.

It would explain why the guy in the background projection during the stageplay Ranpo and Fukuzawa watched looked like Fyodor in his Meursault attire. People have already made the connections between what looks like Fyodor being crucified, and his last words before he got exploded/crushed/his arm ripped off. Maybe Fyodor is trying to communicate with someone?

Since he (when we for sure see him on the rooftop at the very end of the arc) is wearing the outfit he did before he got locked up, it's possible he travelled back a while ago, and post-Meursault Fyodor is in some way capable of sending messages back, dead or alive. The reason for this is: Fyodor is already back in that time period, if he knew everything that will happen in the future why wouldn't he just tell whoever he's trying to communicate with/act on the information himself? Either post-Meursault Fyodor is communicating with someone in that time period, or any itteration of Fyodor is trying to communicate with someone else subtly because they are in some way unable to otherwise communicate.

Anyways, yeah. Don't take my word vomit too seriously.

This really makes a lot of sense…you know

Hey, so, do you guys like the Dazai Chronicles? I might make more, but honestly I'm not sure what other characters to do. I already have Chuuya's in the progress, but everyone else is kinda...blank. he had to learn to survive, as did everyone

he was in the mafia, running around and murdering, torturing, among other crimes

perhaps he just wanted normal teen tears that those things didn’t happen. just highschool, friends, relationships.

nikolai-

“instead of love, and trust, and laughter, all you get is happy never after.”

nikolai wanted to be with fyodor, which has always been clear.

he wanted to feel things, but felt it only made him weak. so he tried to give them all up and work with fyodor.

in attempting that, fyodor lost his life and left nikolai with sadness.

fyodor-

“need to purge the poison from our system until human beings listen. tell me, who do you think you are?”

fyodor’s goal from the beginning is to rid the world of sin. killing in the name of his god.

and which, he would let no one get in the way of his goals.

thus, he must punish those for their crimes. for their sin. for their poison.

sigma -

“i know exactly what i want and who i want to be. i know exactly why i walk and talk like a machine”

sigma isn’t human. that he knows.

normal human things don’t come naturally to him. he has to fake it.

and with faking it, one seems less human than ever. machine like, even. sigma became exactly like that.

a machine who, with just a push of a button, could be so easily altered and manipulated.
