little (100% canon) things i love about the end of pride & prejudice that don’t usually make adaptations:
Lizzy offers to burn The Letter because Darcy’s embarrassed about how bitter he probably sounded when he wrote it
Darcy tells Lizzy that he told Bingley he was wrong about how Jane felt. Lizzy (parphr): “Did you decide that for yourself or were you just going off what I told you at Hunsford?” Darcy, the stubbornest nerd: “No, I figured it out for myself” Lizzy, sarcastically: “okay, Darcy”
When Lizzy tells Jane she’s in love with Darcy, Jane asks her if she’s joking six times
Next day: Darcy and Bingley show up at the house. Mrs Bennet’s upset that Bingley always brings Darcy. To get rid of him, she tells Kitty and Lizzy to take him on a walk. Bingley: “Kitty looks sick. Maybe Lizzy and Darcy should go…….. by themselves” Mrs Bennet: “I’m sorry Lizzy you must find a way to survive this” Lizzy, sarcastically: “Oh nooooooo”
Direct quote, Mr. Bennet on Darcy saving Lydia: “It will save me a world of trouble and economy. Had it been your uncle’s doing, I must and would have paid him; but these violent young lovers carry every thing their own way. I shall offer to pay [Darcy] to-morrow; he will rant and storm about his love for you, and there will be an end of the matter.”
Lizzy writes a friendly, clever letter to her aunt and uncle that’s included in the text, the next line is “Darcy’s letter to Lady Catherine was in a different style”. The text of Darcy’s letter is omitted
Jane and Bingley move in next door to Lizzy and Darcy

Forgive me.
Pride & Prejudice (2005) dir. Joe Wright
When I first read Pride and Prejudice I was 14 and couldn't care less. Now, three years later I find myself completely engrossed in this book. I cannot believe my attachment to Lizzy and Mr Darcy. My overpowering interest in the novel does not cease to surprise me
You weren't born bisexual, you chose to read Pride & Prejudice and fell in love with both Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy
"you held her hand ungloved? what, you gave her a lap dance too?"
I'M SO PROUD OF THIS ONE it's my first time trying out semi-realistic art and I just had to do an iconic scene that lives in my head rent free.
Yeah Mr. Darcy’s proposal was a complete turd and a half but you gotta understand. You got your life together. A good career, stable income, retirement plan, all that shit together. And you meet this girl. And she’s everything. Clever, outspoken, funny, calls you on your bullshit. Grade A cutie, right? And she doesn’t go out of her way to spend time with you but she’s nice, and sometimes you catch her looking your way in a way that makes you think you might have a shot.
But her family. Holy shit.
First off, it’s p much ALL women, and mostly UNMARRIED women, which at this time means of something happens to her dad then you’re financially responsible for like. Four grown ass adults, potentially forever
Because mom in law is DEFINITELY gonna need someone to take care of her when dad in law kicks it, and they have like. NO money. So already you’re accepting that if all goes well, you’re gonna be one random old bag’s retirement home. That’s expensive and exhausting, yeah? Imagine asking someone on a first date knowing that if they say yes and things go good her high-strung chihuahua mother is gonna move in with you. IMAGINE.
And girly’s other sisters. Well, one is a sweetheart, yeah, so she probably won’t be an issue, but that still leaves three more, and two of those ones are INSUFFERABLE. Never went to school, dumb as rocks, spend cash like it’s toilet paper
And while one of the two is young still and might grow out of it the OTHER one is actively torpedo’ing her entire family’s reputation by wandering off with random dudes and chasing ass. She’s never gonna work, she can’t build connections, she’s a fucking sinkhole, and she’s being led on by the same goddamn con man ass leeching tit who’s been bleeding you dry while telling anyone who’ll listen that your family is full of ratty thieving bastards.
And if he dumps her after a week- WHICH YOU KNOW HIS BITCH ASS IS GONNA- you’ve got a SECOND UNMARRIABLE GROWN ASS ADULT TO PROVIDE FOR. And you KNOW she’s gonna be a tantrum-throwing little shit about it, and it’s not like you can lock her in the basement or something, you’re gonna have to bring her fucking. Everywhere. And give her an allowance and shit while she contributes zero, because again, she NEVER GOT EDUCATED AND HAS NO MARKETABLE SKILLS. She’s not even good to TALK to. FUCK
And you’re looking at this girl’s father like “please for the love of fuck get your spawn under control, marry them off, get them working on their résumé, learning to sew or be nursemaids or manage staff or SOMETHING, yall got no money and one foot in the grave” and that old man just laughs like “haha yeah, what can you do. lol”
So you’re looking to the mom and finally it’s making sense how she got that twitch in her eye and as MUCH as she is you’re starting to realize she’s the SMART one, desperately throwing her armloads of girls at random men like they’re a bunch of fucking lifeboats bobbing around a sinking ship, like yes Jesus Christ sweetly that life boat IS old and ugly and kind of boring but for FUCKS SAKE PICK ONE
And you look back at this girl who is ALSO REFUSING THE LIFE BOATS BY THE WAY and god damn it she’s still the most radiant thing you’ve ever seen so fine, fuck it, Christ alive, you’ll do it. You’ll shoot your shot. She’s everything you’ve ever wanted in anybody abut it’s not even just about that anymore, it’s about being her best fucking shot at a future, and even if she doesn’t like you all that much she’s still gonna say yes and that might break your heart a bit knowing it’s about the money but who knows, maybe it will at least be civil, or companionable, and even if she doesn’t LOVE you at least you’ll know she’s well and cared for
And so you’ll do it. You’ll take on the neurotic stress mess mother in law, the absent father, the broke ass wingnut no brain no money no future airhead sisters, the bad mannered relatives and the embarrassing behaviour and the impending future of sharing your entire shit with a clown parade of freeloaders, you’ll risk it all and accept the absolute certainty of financial ruin and emotional exhaustion for the rest of your whole ass life and you’ll make your own family deal with it too, you’ll do it, you’ll fucking DO IT, you stupid lovesick motherfucker
And so you go to this chick like “look. Your whole family’s a shitshow. You’ve got fucking nothing and you’re gonna die on the street. But for some reason- and I don’t get it either- I’ve fallen in love with you, and I wish I didn’t, but I did, so I’m telling you that whether you like me or not, I’ll give you everything. I’ll give you everything even if it’s the dumbest shit I ever done. Fuck my stupid Baka ass, I’ll marry you.”
And she looks at you- having heard or considered absolutely none of your months-long internal debate and monologue- and goes “The fuck did you just say about my family, you son of a bitch?”
And the shock of that is enough to jolt you back into a reality where you are able to actually hear and process what just came out of your damn mouth And yeah
Yeah, I think I kinda get it
I would crash out if I was her
an underrated detail in pride and prejudice is that elizabeth bennett was home alone on the day darcy proposed because she had a headache. can you imagine. this was in the pre-painkillers era. you're at home with a headache and then this asshole walks into the room and tells you he loves you and wants to marry you even though he hates your whole family and you're beneath him. imagine having to deal with that while also having a headache. she doesn't even have ibuprofen
"I deserve neither such praise nor such censure,"
bring this back i want to say i deserve praise and censure.
Two of my favorite things being paralleled in quotes? What a treat!!
“A lady’s imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment.”
Lucien watched the ever-young forest. “Isn’t that what all human women wish for? A handsome faerie lord to wed and shower them with riches for the rest of their lives?”
"From the first moment I met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry."
Her mouth tightened, the only sign of anger in her graceful countenance. “I don’t want a mate. I don’t want a male.”
I dare say you will find him amiable.
“He is a good male,” I repeated.
"It would be most inconvenient since I have sworn to loathe him for all eternity"
She just ignored him or barely spoke to him until he got the hint and left
He's been a fool about so many things, about Jane, and others... but then, so have I. You see, he and I are so similar.
How Lucien withstood it, I didn’t know. Not that he’d shown any interest in bridging that gap between them.
but I said, “You couldn’t say a single word to him? A pleasant greeting?” Elain only stared at the steaming kettle as she set it on the stone counter.
"You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April...."
Elain only shrank further into herself,
tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.
Cassian’s heart strained at the pain etching deep into Lucien’s face as he tried to hide his disappointment and longing.
But she doesn't like him. I thought she didn't like him.
"She has no interest in him anyway"
SJM loves P&P which in it's simplist form is two characters who develop misconceptions about the other upon their initial meeting. Who can't help but being drawn together throughout the book but refuse to admit it due to their own stubbornness. As a result they either act indifferent and push the other away (Elizabeth) or suffer in silence with longing (Darcy).
It's weird that people know of her love for this movie / book and how everyone in it believed Elizabeth greatly disliked Darcy (up until the end) yet they still act like Elain's indifference towards Lucien is a bad thing.
So it turns out putting wood varnish on cheap plastic frames actually works amazingly
Who knew 🤷♀️

“you have bewitched me body and soul. and i love, i love, i love you. i never wish to be parted from you from this day on.”
for my honest reaction and rating, check out my goodreads.
Why is it always 'ILY' and never 'You have bewitched me; body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. And wish from this day forth never to be parted from you.'

no YOU live in a society i live in this frame of pride and prejudice
‘Pride and Prejudice’ is a beautiful book which is hilariously written. It is a very social novel. The different matters of society explained in this novel is very much relatable to my own society. The errors and doings of the society then has been shown hilariously. The whole novel was arranged systemically and has represented the situations of women in the society.
I enjoyed the conversation between Mr. and Mrs. Bennets in the first chapter. It represents how passionate the mothers were (still are in some societies) to get their daughters married to any fortunate, wealthy men. And the mothers kept competing with the others of their kind for this reason. And it was also not very uncommon that as much as they were in favor of those wealthy men, they were also very suspicious of them in every little matter.
There is soo much things to say about the plot of the novel but i am afraid that i am going to spoil it and I want to keep my review spoiler free as much as possible. thus explaining this book is actually explaining the characters I think.
The character ‘Elizabeth’ reminds me of the character ‘Jo March’ from ‘Little Women’. She is very sensible woman.
Mr. Darcy isn’t the particular kind of hero that I like but certainly his character is very interesting. He is a great critics that I must admit. Some mechanical conversations of Mr. Darcy made me laugh. At first it seemed to me that there was a great change in Mr. Darcy’s character and disposition after falling in love with Elizabeth. Then I realized maybe those were always there but only concealed and waiting for a chance to be shown to only his dearest one and none else. Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s characters are similar as both of them are somewhat really awkward in front of the society and that is one of the best part of the novel other than the social humors.
To me the character of Mrs. Bennet is very funny. But the character of Miss Bingley is the funniest and was soo much needed in the book.
I disliked the character of Mr. Collins. He seems to me that kind of person who lacks individuality of his own. Lady Catherine is just the kind of old lady who interferes in almost every business of other people.
The character Jane is soo sympathetic and kind. The part where jane’s mental condition was emotionally unstable was really touching. The relationship between Jane and Elizabeth is soo sweet and it is kind of like the relationship between me and my sister. They share each others happiness and sorrows soo comfortably.
Mary is a bookish nerd which I liked very much. She is literally out of everything but her books. But she is a little bit inattentive towards her family but that’s okay because she has her own mechanical way of thinking. Lydia is very cheerful, talkative and silly. Kitty’s and Lydia’s character in the book were almost the same.
This novel perfectly represents some states of human behavior such as agitation other than Pride and Prejudice of course. I highly recommend this book to everyone because this novel is so natural and relatable. But the plot and the matters happening in this novel are a little bit plainer. The story is little shorter and limited. I expected some more side plots. But in the whole, the novel is very good and it felt soo realistic to me.
I’m watching pride and prejudice for the first time and as I saw Mr. Darcy I felt as if I had seen him before. After long watching and careful consideration, I had a sudden thought and I knew where I had seen such an unpleased frown mixed with such challenged emotions before : Miles Edgeworth, prosecutor of the Ace Attorney franchise.
It fits so perfect. In Phoenix we find the strong willed and free spirited protagonist that is Elizabeth Bennet. Thus I must insist on a Pride and Prejudice AU of Ace Attorney.
As such it all begins with Pride and Prejudice, doesn’t it?
Bring men back who yearn.
While I absolutely love the 1995 Pride and Prejudice adaptation, the 2005 version has some of my favorite filmmaking and cinematography.
The dance scenes are energetic, the camera constantly moving, following and showing out main characters but also makes the audience feel like they are there as well. The closeness of the camera, the large amount of people in an enclosed space really sets the atmosphere.
And in contrast, whenever the rich are shown on screen (Lady Catherine de Bourg's place) the people and camera are still, the blocking like that of a painting.
The way the sisters are shot makes them really feel like family. They are constantly close to each other, literally in each other's business.
The look these two give each other when they are finally on the same page and getting engaged. Shy, excited, in love.
The change in camera angles on Darcy as Lizzie and Darcy become closer. First the camera tilts up slightly when they are juxtaposed, but then at a straight angle when they are more equal in their feelings.
Tracking shots! So many beautiful tracking shots.
Mr. Darcy making it up to Bingley by acting as Jane while Bingley nervously practices proposing.
And of course the hands! Nothing more romantic than this.
The closeness to the book is great in the 1995 adaptation and I would be remiss not to include this gif in any post about Pride and Prejudice.
My absolute favorite portrayal of a father and daughter. In this one scene, I have the privilege of seeing a reflection of me and my own dad which never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
Thank you, Mr Sutherland
i wanted a wedding scene so bad 😭😭😭
finished reading PnP and now i officially hate all the literary references that modern romances (like The Fine Print) make to PnP. Like no. Darcy was not a cold-hearted, empathy-devoid asshole like your male lead, maam. He was a little awkward, obstinate, prideful and *successfully* reflects that by HIMSELF and works on himself, not just to get the girl, but because thats what good men do.
Seriously, the only modern PnP reference i like anymore is probably like, good omens or something.

Me, every day: Me? Romantic? Please, I’m not 12.
Me watching Pride and Prejudice (2005) mouthing along: If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings had changed, I will have to tell you, you have bewitched me body and soul and I love…I love… I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.
