Elva frowned, watching him go. She should just let him keep walking, she should just leave him alone. It was safer for him, it was better this way. He could be happy alone, right? Right? “Ugh!” She said aloud as she chased after him, “Salem Skellington, you get back here right now!” She demanded, “You think you can just walk away after saying something like that?” She shoved his shoulder, not hard, but enough to show him her frustration. “I’m not going to let you go and get hurt or whatever. Now who’s after you, tell me what’s really going on?”
Salem stopped, turning back to Elva . It was better if he stayed far away from her, why was she stopping him? He barely moved when she shoved him, surprising considering he was almost always swaying on his feet. “It’s nothing that serious, you know me. I just can’t stay out of trouble.” He shrugged, looking everywhere but directly at her. The bar fight that caused all this really wasn’t that serious, he had just meant he was bound to get in trouble again because he always did. It was in his nature to invoke chaos. “C’mon, Elva. You know it’s not good for you to get involved with me. I’ll just screw up your life... that’s why you don’t want to hang out anymore,” he muttered the unfair words, knowing they would hurt and he hated himself for saying it. It was just so painful to feel so much for Elva and know that he was too screwed up to ever have her.

She grabbed his wrist, not willing to let him go just yet. “Can you just…try to keep yourself safe?” She said quietly. He needed friends, that was obvious. But why did it have to be her? She let his wrist go, sighing. “I am worried about you.” That’s why they couldn’t be friends.
A ghost of a smile crossed his lips, she still worried about him but being who he was, he could never ease her worries. “I don’t want to lie to you, Elva.” He murmured, dipping his head down. “I should go,” he repeated, turning to leave without a look back. No matter how much his heart ached for him to prove he was worthy of someone like her, he knew in his mind that he never could be.

Elva sighed, “Salem…” She didn’t know how to follow it. Once upon a time, they had been very close, and then the drugs and the parties…it was so dangerous for Elva to have any friends at all. But someone like Salem, who was full of potential for volatile emotions, was especially vulnerable. “Ten minutes.”
The male glanced over, resisting the urge to frown when she said nothing more. “You know ---- I think they’re already gone,” he started, pulling away from Elva. This was a mistake. He had screwed up by asking her for help. “I should get going.”

“I’ll be the judge of that.” Elva chuckled despite herself. She glanced behind them. “Just stay with me for an hour and they’ll lose their nerve, everyone does around me.” And they should, she was dangerous. She sighed and tucked her arm into Salem’s. This way it could just be for the act, she didn’t have to admit anything to him. Definitely not that she missed him.
I don’t. The words wanted to come out with the same ferocity he used to chase a high but coming from him, he knew they would offer no comfort. He was too much of a mess to be a good friend anymore. “I doubt they’ll follow me for that long, I’m not worth all that trouble. Ten minutes tops."

Elva raised an eyebrow as Salem came towards her. Once upon a time they were friends, but…he became too chaotic. She missed him, of course, but she missed everyone. He was more in danger close to her than he was on his own, “What have you done?” She demanded, still walking wit him, “Could you look any more suspicious?”
“Yeah, actually, I can,” he retorted, fixing his eyes onto the path in front of them. He knew someone was following him and more than likely it had to due with a stunt he pulled in a bar last week. “And I didn’t do anything that someone else didn’t deserve.” It actually pained Salem to be dragging her into of his messes, knowing how much she wanted to avoid trouble.

The timing was terrible but Salem had no choice but to walk up to the closest person nearby and that happened to be Elva. A girl he was crushing on hard but she wanted nothing to do with him. “ ‘M sorry, please just pretend to talk to me for a few minutes. I’ll leave as soon as I can,” he spoke in a low and hurried tone, glancing behind them every so often.
