Made to retain the wet feel of clay, it feels alive, soft and yet its ceramic- it takes real skill & artistic sense to be able to do this with clay. The artist left a few carefully places finger marks to further enhance its handmade and pliable feel. This artists intention is to make something a factory never could, that is truly unique, brings inspiration and natural beauty into the lives of those with live with it. She achieved these goals with this piece. Even the grud pattern is hand drawn, revealed in slight irregularities. These irregularities feel natural to us because the natural world is perfect yet irregular. There is a quiet comfort found looking at a piece like this.
Looks amazing with fresh fruit or veggies or nuts or your car keys! in limes, tangerines, walnuts in shells, odds n ends. Etc….
Can go in your dishwasher & microwave- but was not intended to be eaten off of. Low fire earthenware- rich read colors. Embossed Grid pattern, surface is sealed with refined slip (terra sigilatta) and burnished & then a black mineral slip accentuates the embossed pattern.
American ceramic artists- mixed media artist- higher education artist trained at Alfred University.

Snow in April. Hello high desert weather!!
A boundless thank you to this amazing vehicle that, for the past 3 decades, traveled through much of the US, through deep mud, dirt, rocks, snow, flood waters, kept me SAFE and FREE. Got me to the most exquisite, peaceful places, to visit friends & family, to workworkwork! & in cities & countrysides & forests & mountains & mesas & deserts & to lakes & the beach/ocean & I am forever indebted to my jeep.

278,000 miles.
Last 244,000 had mobil 1 synthetic oil. :)
Going up for sale for a diy jeep lover or parts but it runs & has had 15k in new parts the past 10 years - countless hours of tlc.
Goodyear AT wranglers with only 3,000 miles on them.

From my great aunt from Ohio. I was lucky enough to be gifted many of her 1920’s- 1950’s special belongings which are now rare collectibles. For several decades I have carefully kept, protected and enjoyed her pieces in my art collections.

Japanese Wood-fired Stoneware Dish. Wabi-Sabi style. Alfred Grad. New
Ceramic Fine Art. Wood ash, flashing slips, anagama fired, high fire stoneware. Hand made utilizing multiple techniques.
Can go in microwave or dishwasher- but not designed for eating out of bc the surface is rough- but you can! Its intended to be enjoyed on its own as a sculptural vessel, or looks superb filled with walnuts in shells, limes, cumquats or other such items.
Signed by artist. Artist: university trained, published, exhibited, still alive. Made limited amount of work in this design line. It is one of a kind.
Dimensions approx: 8 x 5.5 x 3 inches.
I love this piece. The subtlety of this design is delicious to look at & hold. The lengthy ancient firing process is evidenced in its dynamic surface & beautiful ash glaze.
Rustic beauty, timeless design.
