Parkinson's law states that the amount of time you give a task to take is equivalent to the amount of time that task will take. If something must be done in a year, it’ll be done in a year. If it must be done in six months, then it will. Cyril Parkinson, a British historian, first observed the trend during his time with the British Civil Service. He noted that as bureaucracies expanded, they became more inefficient.
