as a librarian and archivist, fanfiction about goncharov is FASCINATING. as far as i can tell, this is the first time a fandom tag has been applied for a source material that doesn’t exist. obviously fandom tags have been used in interesting ways before, from the most conventional conundrum of crossovers (that alliteration was accidental! oops…); to fanfiction for fanfiction (e.g. DTA fanfiction); to fanfiction for a broader work which has several manifestations (e.g. “Marvel”, which is more of a conceptual work than a real source text, since it manifests differently in comics, movies, TV shows etc.); to original content (which just gets its own fandom tag). but has there ever been a case where a fandom is created for a source text that never existed in the first place?
and is there a duty on the part of ao3 cataloguers/archivists to represent that unreality in the description? does ao3 ever provide contextual description for standard tags? normally (for example - the tag description for 9-1-1) it just says what category the tag falls under. i’m sure i could read more about it in cataloguing/classification journals but if anyone has insight lemme know :)
are some of the people newer to tumblr aware of the joys of theme customization on desktop? I know some ppl are just on mobile so they can’t really change things but like SO many blogs nowadays have 0 theme customization and just use the default theme and I’m beginning to wonder if they even know about the option. It’s one of the main reasons why I still use tumblr
25-35 is such a weird fucking age because you’re 100% a bread-and-butter Standard Edition Millennial but the cool teens are like “ok boomer” because you have a Real Job but the actual Boomers at your job are like “I’m not going to listen to a literal fucking child” as they download 16 self-replicating viruses and meanwhile the Gen Xers are telling you to refinance a mortgage for a house you don’t have and you’re sitting there at the Adults Table with the pretty tasty casserole you cooked because you’ve finally figured out how to do that now but everyone is eating the Boomer’s store-bought macaroni instead and admittedly they do sort of taste similar so it probably wasn’t worth all the trouble of cooking from scratch and you’re trying to comfort the freshly-graduated sobbing 22-year-old next to you because she just woke up here and doesn’t know where she is but you have like maybe 5k dollars in a savings account labelled RETIREMENT that grows approx. twelve cents a year and you keep eating dry macaroni while smiling incomprehensibly and periodically blacking out like ??????????

ao3 is not instagram, and it’s not embarrassing to comment on a story that’s old. we understand that you just happened to come across it now; writing is magical in that you often come across the right story at just the time you need to read it.
also, authors will literally cry over their keyboard if you comment on the stuff they write.
love the type of character that is insane but everyone else around them is so much worse that they become the normal one
