Before it started filling out for the new season, I installed these two T poles with clothes lines criss-crossed across the top... not for clothes, but to redirect the vine’s growth. In past years, it’s grown so big that in invades the neighboring rose bush, avacado tree and citris trees. It has even climbed up in my neighbor’s apple trees, and he told me that my vine is not letting his trees grow apples. I am going to manage it this year and have it grow onto this system I built, and have it create a canopy. It will be cool to see grapes hanging down.
Originally built this “hut” for the owls we saw hanging out around our home... was eventually taken over by a colony of bees. This was built large enough for owls, so you can imagine, it’s quite a large hive there now. I was trimming the tree next to it and was doing so early in the morning, so as not to stir them up. Our mornings have had temps in the 40s and that keeps the bees from being very active until it warms up.
I was working out in the yard doing some trimming of a tree, and heard a “YAK!” and looked to see this pretty bird eating off the seed bell. It was quick and wouldn’t give me much time to get a photo... took me a couple times before I caught this shot. I don’t know if it’s a bluebird or blue jay, but I do know it’s pretty!
