I’m back with another part to my omegaverse au!! This time Keith has a baby... there is baby.
*
Keith absolutely adored his baby.
Of course, he had loved his baby from the moment they had found out he was expecting and that, for once, everything seemed to be in order. No miscarriage. No complications. Nothing at all that was worrying in any way. The doctors were a bit worried about the birth, considering that he’d had some complications in the past, but they had scheduled a C-section in order to have complete control of the situation. Which was more than fine with Keith.
He and Lance had decided to wait to see the sex of their child was at birth. Lance liked surprises, and Keith wanted to venture away from the binary-construct that came with having a baby boy or a baby girl. He’d been adamant, despite the teasing from the more traditional side of Lance’s family.
And because he loved his omega and his not yet born baby, Lance had spent an exhausting weekend painting the nursery a light shade of green and white, constructing furniture and converting the office into their baby’s new room. Keith had overseen, of course,
The more pregnant Keith got, the more fussy and emotional he became. At first, it was endearing. He was more protective of Lance, always sure to scent his alpha furiously before and after he came home from anywhere — work, the store, a friend’s house.
He was also more snuggly than usual, often curling up either in one of Lance’s shirts and a nest of blankets, or simply in his mate’s arms. He liked it when Lance touched his belly and talked to their baby. He liked being close to his source of safety and comfort.
However, there was also the downside of the hormones. Keith got upset very easily. He cried over things constantly, sending Lance into a mess of panic and concern and worry. It was often nothing more than a stubbed toe, being unable to reach something, or maybe something on the TV (he always tried to dissuade him from watching soap operas, but after a nasty fight over it, he had given up).
Not only that, but midnight cravings were serious and made him mean if he didn’t get what he wanted. Lance became a regular in the Taco Bell drive through at odd hours in the night. And Lord forbid anyone comment on his eating habits.
However difficult pregnancy was, Keith was still so happy at what was coming from all of it. He spent hours in the nursery, falling asleep in the rocking chair or reading the picture books they’d been given.
After the baby shower they’d been thrown, Lance had taken to working from home for the last couple of months until the due date. Keith was still insistent on doing things on his own, and Lance regretted buying a house with so many stairs. Although once Keith got to a place he liked, he generally stayed put. Working from home gave the omega time to unpack all of the things from the baby shower, and gave Lance peace of mind.
This doesn’t mean Keith wasn’t still his same stubborn, independent self.
One morning, Keith woke up with a funny stomach ache and a weird pain in the very low part of his back. A look at Lance told him he was still asleep, and the clock by the bed read 6:58am. It was still too early to be awake.
The omega sighs, rubbing his face and resting a hand on his belly. As usual, their baby gives a little kick, pulling a smile from its mother.
“You behave,” he whispers, “or we’ll wake up your daddy.”
He gets another little kick in reply before the baby rolls over and settles.
Keith settles in, drifting just back to the cusp of sleep, when a sharp pain cuts through his reverie and up his spine. He inhales sharply, pushing to sit up. His heart was racing, but the baby seemed okay. There was no blood between his legs, he checked first thing. Maybe it was just a weird bout of back pains.
Lance shifts beside him, just barely awake. “Wha...? S’early, baby, c’mere…”
He reaches for his omega, and Keith lets himself be pulled back down into the warmth of his alpha and the covers. Lance’s hands settle neatly on his belly, his face tucked into the back of his neck. “Okay?” He rumbles.
Keith nods, melting against him. “Okay. Just… restless.”
He gets another sleepy rumble in reply, then a soft snore. He smiles to himself, rolling his eyes, and settles back in. The pain doesn’t come back right away, and sleep comes easier tucked away in Lance’s arms.
*
The pain comes back later that morning.
He was in the kitchen, putting dishes away — because even nine months pregnant, he still insisted on being useful — when it happens.
The pain is sudden and blinding, tearing up his spine and through his hips. Keith gasps, dropping the plate in his hands and reaching for the counter. The plate shatters at his feet, but he hardly registers it, too busy focusing on not biting through his tongue. After a few seconds, the pain is gone and he’s left panting and hanging onto the counter.
A few seconds later, Lance comes skidding into the room. “What happened?!” He yelps, gingerly scooping Keith up and away from the broken ceramic, setting him carefully on a kitchen chair and kneeling to check for injury.
“I’m okay,” Keith protests when he can get his wits about him. “It was just an accident, I’m fine.”
The alpha nods, but continues checking his feet and hands to ensure that he wasn’t hurt. Satisfied, he lets out a breath and leans up to press a relieved kiss to Keith’s lips.
“You scared me.” He murmurs, pressing his lips to his forehead next, lingering.
“Sorry.” The omega offers weakly, resting his hands on Lance’s shoulders. To be honest, his heart was still pounding, but that was probably because his back was still aching.
Lance pulls away, looking up at him, blue eyes searching purple. “Are you okay?” He asks, earnest. Keith can feel his heart melt.
“Yeah, I’m okay. I just got this weird sort of pain in my back. I probably just moved wrong.”
“Okay…” His mate says dubiously, the doubt in his voice reflected in his eyes. “I’m gonna go clean up the glass. You stay put.”
The omega bites back a protest, instead deciding it felt nicer to stay in the chair than it did to stand. Besides, like this, he got to see his mate bend down to pick things up, and that in itself was a treat.
*
The pains wouldn’t go away. It was starting to frustrate Keith immensely. Lance had sensed something was up after his omega had seized up and made a noise that could only be described as agonized when they were cuddling.
After fussing and ensuring he hadn’t done anything to hurt Keith or the baby, the omega had been left in a very grumpy pile of blankets and pillows, Lance at his side and on his computer.
“I feel fine.” He protests, not for the first time.
“I know,” Lance replies, also not for the first time.
“It was just indigestion, probably.”
“I know.”
“Nothing to worry about. You don’t have to hover.”
“I like hovering.”
Keith makes a dubious tch sound, settling back into the blankets. They’re quiet for a moment, enjoying each other’s presence, when the omega goes stiff and makes another noise of pain. One that sends panic and helplessness through his alpha.
“I’m calling the doctor.” He says, getting up and shutting his laptop.
“Lance!” Keith protests, or tries to. He’s cut off by another sharp pain, this one tearing the breath from his lungs and making him clench his teeth.
“I’m calling the doctor,” Lance says, kneeling in front of him as he dials the number, his gaze pleading. “Okay?”
“Okay,” He gasps when the episode passes, nodding and reaching for his hand. Lance takes it, squeezing gently. His touch is warm and grounding.
They wait in silence for a while before someone picks up. “Hi! Uh, hey, this is Lance McClain-Kogane. Can I speak to Dr. Smythe? Yes, thank you.” They wait a beat, the alpha’s thumb rubbing over the back of his hand, before anyone picks up.
“Hey, Coran, it’s Lance. I — Well, I… Keith is having some pain and I’m really worried. He’s um, well… it seems to be sudden…” He trails off, glancing at Keith for confirmation. He gets a nod before yet another searing pain tears a devastating noise from his omega.
“Yeah, uh, no it’s — it’s pretty bad. It’s happened a few times, I think..? I dunno, hold on, um. Babe,” He tilts the phone away from his mouth. “When did this start?”
“This morning,” Keith manages to hiss through his teeth.
Lance nods, his concern growing, before reporting this to the doctor. He listens a moment, then nods. “Right, yeah, I’ll— I’ll do that right now.” He gets up, squeezing his hand. “I’m gonna get you a heating pad, okay? Stay put.”
The omega nods, closing his eyes tight against another wave of pain as his alpha hurries off, still babbling to the doctor. He tries to breathe through it, tries to tell himself that this is all fine, everything is fine. It’s probably just… well, he doesn’t know what, but it sure is something.
The pain ceases abruptly, far more abruptly than before, and with it comes the tiniest popping feeling and then a rush of clear fluid. Keith goes still, understanding dawning. And then the pain hits in double.
“Lance,” He calls, his voice shrill.
No answer.
“Lance!” He shrieks, panic clawing up his throat and bleeding into his voice.
There’s the sound of thudding from upstairs, panicked alpha scent drifting into the room before Lance scrambles in, wild eyed. “What is it? Are you okay?”
“I think my water just broke.” He breathes, his eyes still on the mess in his lap.
The two of them are silent, save for the tinny sound of their doctor trying to get Lance’s attention. A pained whimper from Keith sets Lance back into action. “I’m here!” He says, both to the doctor and to his mate. He rushes over, dropping down in front of him and holding tight to his hand.
“Yeah, uh, his water just broke. No, there’s no blood— I don’t… no, we won’t have time to get to the hospital, his contractions are really close together. A… About thirty seconds? Oh. Oh, shit. Yeah, I’ll… Yeah.”
His eyes widen and he sets the phone down, putting it on speakerphone. “Okay.” He says.
“Hey, Keith.” Greets Dr. Smythe. “How’re you feeling?”
“Not very good,” He wheezes, clutching his belly and kicking a leg out in restless desperation. “I think this baby hates me.”
Their doctor chuckles. “No, I don’t think so. Listen, you’re going to need to start pushing soon. I’ve sent a dispatch team and they will be there as soon as they can.”
“What?” Keith’s eyes widen, the acrid stench of pained and panicked omega blooming in the room and making Lance hover closer. “But— no. No! I’m not supposed to… we’re supposed to do a c-section, I’m not supposed to do this naturally!”
“Hey, baby, hey…” Lance takes his hand, kissing his knuckles. “We’ll be okay. The ambulance will be here soon, all we have to do is try and deliver this baby.”
“Oh, yeah!” Keith cries hysterically. “All we have to do is delivery a baby! That’s it! That’s all!”
“Keith, I need you to breathe.” Dr. Smythe says calmly. “Lance is going to be with you the whole time. Are you comfortable?”
“Yes,” He hisses, the word more of a whine than an actual word. As comfortable as he was going to get, anyways, with all this pain taking over his autonomy.
He spaces out when another contraction hits, missing the instructions Lance is getting from the OB. He’s more focused on not dying and not freaking out, because apparently freaking out was bad for him and the baby. Which was inconvenient if you asked him (which no one did).
When he comes to, Lance is looking up at him with his eyes filled to the brim with love and a little bit of concern. “Come on, love,” he murmurs, “let’s deliver this baby.”
*
By the time the ambulance gets there, Keith is crying and exhausted and holding the little bundle they’d been waiting years for. He cries even harder when they take her — her — away from him to check her over and put her in an incubator until they reach the hospital.
Lance is with him the whole time, holding his hand and brushing his sweaty hair out of his eyes, whispering how proud of Keith he was, how amazing it was that he’d brought that little bundle into the world. The omega doesn’t stay awake long after they’re loaded in the ambulance and on the way to the hospital. Not with his sight on the little baby and his mate’s fingers tracing over his neck and cheek.
The second time he drifts back into consciousness, he’s in a sterile hospital room. There’s an IV in his arm and he’s hooked up to a couple machines to monitor his vitals. His whole body is sore and he feels like if he moves, he might scream.
This all fades away though, when he looks over to see his alpha holding their baby girl. She was swaddled in the pale green blanket he’d picked up a couple weeks ago — Lance must’ve grabbed it before they left. She was quiet, probably sleeping, and Lance was looking down at her with an expression so tender it almost made Keith cry.
“Hi,” the omega breathes.
Lance looks up, a wide smile taking over his face. “Hey, baby,” he murmurs, walking over to sit in the chair he’d pulled close to the bed. “How’re you feeling?”
“Sore. Tired.” Keith’s gaze never leaves their baby.
“Yeah, I’ll bet.” His mate chuckles, leaning over so Keith can see. “Look…”
The omega takes in his baby. She’s so sweet — she has Lance’s nose and darker skin, but Keith’s hair and eyes. He can’t help but smile, falling hopelessly in love with this tiny human. All the pain he’d gone through and all the fertility treatments and all of… well, everything had been so worth it.
“Can I hold her?” He whispers, emotion choking his throat enough to make it impossible to speak.
Lance gives him a soft smile before passing her over, resting her gently on Keith’s chest. She stirs, making a soft noise of annoyance before settling in, content when she smells her mother’s comforting scent.
“Hi,” the omega whispers, eyes full of tears. His fingers brush over her tiny little fist, traveling up to her downy hair. “Hi, baby…”
“You did that.” His alpha was close to his ear. A kiss was pressed to his temple, a hand combing through his hair. “I’m so proud of you, baby. She’s so beautiful.”
He can only sniff, pressing his nose to her tiny little head and closing his eyes. It takes a while to gather his thoughts, gather his words, before he realizes she needed a name.
“Can we name her Akira?”
“Yeah,” Lance breathes. “Yeah, of course. That’s perfect. You’re perfect.”
Keith gives a wet, emotional laugh, cupping the back of Akira’s little head. He had loved this baby — their baby — since he had found out nine months ago. But having her here, holding her close, he wanted nothing more that to protect her for as long as he could. He was definitely going to be a little bit of an overbearing mom.
“I love you, Akira.” He whispers.
“Go to sleep, baby.” Lance murmurs against his temple. “I’ll be right here. I won’t go anywhere.”
As the world fades away and Keith slips back into sleep, he falls into a blissful state of contentment and security, his alpha watching over him and his little girl safe against his chest.

I’m back! For now. Enjoy the latest installment in my a/b/o universe. ***
Being pregnant was definitely an ordeal. Keith was constantly sick, constantly tired and constantly annoyed. He got ridiculous heartburn, weird cravings, a bout of puking every day at exactly 3am on the dot and eventually a bump that made it impossible to bend past his waist. The omega was absolutely in love with all of it.
Well, okay, he could do without the being sick and tired, but you get the idea. His absolute favorite part of this was Lance’s reaction. His already loving alpha had become so gentle and doting in the past six months.
When Keith’s legs and feet hurt, he sat on the couch with his mate and rubbed the soreness from his limbs. When Keith was sick early in the morning, he made a cup of ginger and lemon tea and helped Keith clean up. When the omega was incredibly horny for the concoction of hormones his body was now full of, Lance took him to bed and took care of his every need.
However, being pregnant also meant that his immune system was absolute shit. Despite their best efforts, the omega had caught a cold, and today was the worst he had felt all week. Keith was laying in their bed, curled up on his side, his face buried in the pillows. Lance had taken the day off of work to care for his sick omega.
The alpha had been pacing the house all morning. The doctor had said that as long as Keith wasn’t in distress and his fever didn’t pass over 101 degrees, everything would be alright. So far, his fever had been low grade. The baby was more restless than usual, considering it’s mother’s lack of movement, which was making it harder and harder to be comfortable. Even though Keith’s lovely mate had made him the best nest he’d ever been in.
“Lance.” Keith mumbles when his alpha passes the bedroom door for the third time in the past ten minutes, pretending to fiddle with the thermostat.
Lance jumps, peeking in, his expression sheepish. “Yes?”
“Come lay with me.” He requests with a yawn.
Previously, he hadn’t let Lance in, too uncomfortable in his own sore body to even think of adding another person. Two in one was enough, thank you. Now, however…
The alpha brightens, hurrying in and pausing at the edge of the bed, hesitating before clambering over the soft walls of the nest. Keith watches him lazily, his gaze like magma. If magma could be purple. His scent was inviting and soft, despite the bitter tang of sickness.
Lance settles down against his back, tucking his omega close and nosing into the scent glands over the back of his neck. His plan was to layer his mate in enough of his own scent to try and rid him of his sickness and help him relax. Judging by the soft, content hum Keith gave him, it was working.
“How’re you feeling, sweetheart?” Lance croons once he was satisfied.
“Baby won’t stop kicking.” Keith grunts. “Little alien wants me to move.”
The alpha chuckles, reaching down and smoothing his hand over the gentle curve of Keith’s belly. Perfect, Lance thinks, he’s so perfect. “I think our little alien can deal for now.” He hums, pressing a lingering kiss to Keith’s neck.
With an amused huff the omega rolls over onto his back, looking up at Lance. “You tell them that,” he grunts. “They listen to you.”
Lance winks, glancing down to where his hand is. He slips it underneath the shirt Keith was wearing - Lance’s shirt, he notices with a small thrill of excitement and pride - to brush his hand over his bare skin. He feels a small push and a flutter. It was almost like Keith was housing a baby bat, not a baby human.
After a few moment the baby stills. Keith glances down at his belly, surprised, then lets out an annoyed whine. “Why do they listen to you?”
“I’m the favorite.” Lance teases smugly, kissing his mate’s nose.
“But I’m the incubator!” Keith moans, dropping his head back down with a thick sniffle. He rubs his nose, shaking his head.
Lance smiles fondly, lifting his hand from his belly to run his fingers through ebony locks. “Does your head still hurt?”
The omega nods, closing his eyes and tipping his head into Lance’s hand. “Yeah,” he mumbles, his voice slightly scratchy. “And my body feels like I was run over by a truck.”
“I wish I could make you feel better,” Lance murmurs, pressing a kiss to his fever flushed cheek. “I would be more than happy to be sick in your place.”
“No,” Keith says as sternly as he could muster. He opens one eye, fixing it on the alpha. “You are the biggest baby when you’re sick.”
“I am not!” Lance whines, sticking out his lower lip in a pout.
“Are so,” Keith argues. “You whine and sniffle and paw at me until I lay in bed with you all week. Which is not productive. This house doesn’t clean itself.”
“I’m laying in bed with you,” Lance says, mildly offended.
“Yes, because I let you.” Keith stifles a yawn. “And because you decided to stay home from work.”
“That’s because you were coughing so hard you were throwing up,” Lance huffs defensively. “I just wanted to make sure you were going to be okay.”
Keith looks up at him, his gaze soft. “You silly alpha,” he sighs, reaching up and brushing his fingers over his soft cheek. “What am I going to do with you?”
“Love me.” Lance suggests. He pauses, then grins. “After all, there are going to be two of me running around soon enough.”
Keith’s eyes widen after he gets the idea, glancing down at his belly and back up at Lance. He blinks, then groans and throws an arm over his eyes. “Oh no.”
“Oh yes.” Lance grins, shifting down. He blows raspberries over Keith’s belly, eliciting a squeal and a bout of giggles. “Isn’t that right, little alien?” He coos. “We’re gonna give your mama a run for his money.”
“I’m gonna be dead before I’m thirty,” Keith moans. Lance laughs, pressing kisses up his belly and shifting over him. The omega looks up at him, flushed and smiling. The alpha growls playfully, earning a pleased coo from his mate. He chuckles, leaning down and kissing him.
“I’m all gross,” the omega mumbles against his lips, but Lance only rumbles and cups his jaw, kissing him just a bit harder. He melts into it, closing his eyes and relaxing completely into the sheets.
“Don’t blame me if you get sick,” Keith gasps breathlessly when they part, his chest heaving.
“I’d risk getting sick to kiss you.” The alpha grins, brushing his hair from his face.
“You sap.” The omega hums, pulling him down to the side. “Come lay with me, I want to nap.”
Lance chuckles, tucking Keith and their unborn child against him. “Go to sleep, baby. I’ll be right here.”
Keith drifts off to sleep, his cheek squished against Lance’s shoulder and his leg thrown over his hips. With a beautiful mate six months pregnant, curled up against him safe and sound - wow. The alpha decides he was the luckiest person in the world.

My girlfriend: I thought he said “come here I want to rap”
Me:
Me: Don’t you know that’s how Keith seduces him?
“No way,” Keith whispers, staring down at the test. It was the third test he’d taken. Tests couldn’t be wrong three times, right? “No way!”
There’s a knock on the bathroom door. “Keith?” Comes the voice of his worried alpha. “Is everything okay? You’ve been in there for a long time.”
The omega jumps into action, grabbing all the evidence off the counter and shoving it into the drawer they hardly touched, except to throw random bathroom related crap in. “I’m fine!”
“Are… you sure? If you need help, I can-”
“No!” Keith yelps, too quickly. He winces, closing the drawer carefully. He didn’t need to give Lance any clues. There was no way his alpha was going to find out he was pregnant like this. They had been trying for well over a year - this had to be absolutely special! Taking a test and showing it to him was good, but… Not enough.
The omega opens the door, abruptly stopping himself from colliding with Lance’s chest. He clears his throat, tilting his head up slightly to look at him. “Uh. Hi.”
“Hey,” his mate’s eyebrow quirks, a smile tugging the corner of his lips up. “What’re you up to?”
“...Nothing.” Keith smiles innocently. “I’m gonna go out for a bit, okay?”
Lance blinks. “Oh. I can come with you, if you want…”
“Nope!” Keith grins, leaning up and giving him a kiss. “No, you stay here. It’s your night to make dinner and laundry needs to be done. I’ll be back in a couple hours, tops.”
“Babe,” the alpha whines, catching him by the waist and ducking his head to kiss the side of his face. Keith leans into the attention for a moment, then huffs and gently pulls away from his mate. Lance’s pathetic, sad noise is almost enough to make him stay. But if he stayed, he would crack and tell him the news.
Definitely not. Lance deserved the world. This was going to be a celebration. “Don’t ‘babe’ me,” Keith laughs, swatting his hip as he maneuvers himself around his mate. “I’ll be back soon! This isn’t the end of the world.”
“I’m gonna die!” Lance huffs dramatically, trailing after him.
Keith rolls his eyes, grabbing his keys and slipping into his shoes. “I highly doubt that you’re going to die, Lance.”
“I could! I could waste away from lack of exposure to… to…”
“To?” Keith repeats, throwing an amused look over his shoulder.
“I dunno,” he admits, sheepish, rubbing his neck. “Your scent? Your presence? All of you?”
“You’re sweet, but I’m still going out. Don’t burn the house down while I’m gone.”
The alpha perks up. “Will you come back if I burn it down?”
Keith whirls around, pointing at him. “I swear to God, Lance McClain, if I come back to find my perfectly good house burnt to the ground, I will sell you to the freaking gypsies.”
Lance blinks owlishly at him. “Do gypsies even exist anymore?”
“I will find some! Behave yourself.” He huffs, unlocking the front door. “I’ll be back. I love you.”
“Love you, too! Text me when you’re on the way home.”
Keith smiles, closing the door behind him and walking to his car. Now to find a baby store…
*
Two hours was definitely not enough. Keith got lost in the giant baby supply store, pushing a cart around and staring in awe at all of the tiny clothes. Were babies really that small? There was no way he had ever been so tiny. Well, okay, he wasn’t very big now - but that was the whole secondary gender thing.
The smells in this place were very overwhelming. He needed to find something that didn’t attack his senses and made him calm. He wanted their baby to smell good and be comfortable as well. So Keith found a small hippo stuffed animal. The body was a grey and blue blanket, fuzzy and soft smelling.
Keith also found a tiny green onesie with “If you think I’m cute, you should see my daddy” on it in big black letters. He figured it was the cutest way to tell Lance that they were expecting. Plus their baby was going to have two daddies - they were going to have to fight for the title of cutest dad. For now, it could be Lance. For now.
“Did you find everything alright?” The clerk at the checkout counter asks, delicately folding the items and ringing him up.
Keith smiles, nodding. “I did, thanks.”
“I hope you don’t mind if I ask, but how far along are you?”
The omega blushes. “Oh, um… I just found out today. I wanted to tell my mate and make it special. We’ve been trying for a really long time, and… now I’m here.” He beams.
The clerk smiles brightly. “Congratulations! If you two want to come back and sign up for our registry later into the pregnancy, I’d be happy to help you. I hope everything goes well tonight!” She hands him the bag.
“Thank you,” Keith grins. “Have a good day.”
The next stop is for an ironic card (there was already going to be so much sap, he didn’t want to overload it with more) and a bag to wrap everything in. He was honestly so excited - he even stopped to wrap everything in the store parking lot and sign the card.
When he got home, the porch lights were already on and dinner was made.
“I’m home,” he calls, carefully setting the sleek black bag aside so Lance wouldn’t see it quite yet.
“In the kitchen,” Lance calls. The omega slides his shoes off, creeping into the kitchen and setting the bag on the dining room table as he passes.
“Hey,” he greets, walking over and wrapping his arms around his back, nestling his face into the top of his spine. “Sorry I was out for so long.”
“That’s alright.” Lance smiles, turning off the stove. “Did you have fun?”
“I did.” He hums, rubbing his cheek on the scent glands on the back of his neck, purring softly. Lance smelled like home. Clean laundry and Hispanic spices and the aftershave he used. He smiles against his skin. Finally, their home was going to be growing in size.
“Is dinner ready?” He asks, pulling away and happily accepting the kiss Lance gave him.
“Not quite yet.” The alpha sets the lid on the pot. “It still has about twenty minutes.”
Keith bounces on the balls of his feet. He couldn’t keep this in anymore- he was going to explode. “I have something for you.” The words come out in a rush of breath, and he sucks in another.
Lance chuckles, looking down at him, his ocean blue gaze fond. “Is that where you went? Keith, our anniversary isn’t for another three months, and our birthdays have already passed.”
“No, just- come with me.” He takes his mate’s hand, tugging him into the dining room and flipping on the light. He waves in the direction of the bag. “That’s for you. You should definitely open it.”
“If I must,” he sighs dramatically, laughing when Keith squawks, affronted. “I’m kidding! Come sit with me while I open it.”
“Duh,” the omega mumbles, trying to contain himself. It was very difficult. The excitement was literally boiling inside him, ready to explode like a pressure cooker if Lance didn’t hurry himself up and open that stupid bag. “Hurry!”
“Okay, okay!” Lance laughs, sitting down and pulling out the white tissue paper. “Really, babe, you didn’t have to do this.”
“Yes, I did.” Keith grins, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the table.
Lance shakes his head, smiling, and sets the tissue paper aside. “Okay, let’s see… card first? That’s how you usually do it, right..?”
“No,” Keith shakes his head. “Not the card. That’s last.”
The alpha snorts. “Yes, dear. Got it. What’s even in here..? Oh, look, it’s green.” He reaches in, pulling out the onesie. It unfolds in his hand and he blinks. Keith grins, bouncing in his seat, watching as the cogs slowly start turning in his mate’s brain.
Lance stares at the little outfit, his eyes widening. He scans the words once. Then twice. Then another time. “Keith?” He squeaks, looking over at his mate.
The omega grins, waving a hand. “Keep going! There’s more stuff.”
It takes hardly any time for Lance to pull out the little plushy and the card (which read “who is a dad?” on the outside, and “you. You is a dad.” on the inside. Along with a cute little heart and an I love you from Keith). It was obvious the alpha was rushing, because once the contents of the bag were all on the counter, Lance turns all his attention on the omega.
“You’re pregnant?” He breathes, leaning forward and holding onto his hands.
“Yeah,” Keith answers, amused. “I would’ve thought that was obvious by the baby clothes and card.”
“You’re pregnant.” He whispers, dropping to his knees in front of him. Keith blinks, looking down as his mate wraps his arms around his waist and nuzzles his belly. “When did you find out?”
“Today. When you knocked on the bathroom door.” Keith chuckles, carding his hand through Lance’s hair. “I wanted to do something special.”
“We’re going to have a baby,” Lance sniffs, leaning forward and kissing his belly, dropping his head on his thigh and looking up at Keith.
“Yeah.” The omega blushes. “Finally. After all those stupid treatments and trying for so long.”
“It was so worth it,” Lance grins. “I told you that you weren’t defective. I knew we could do it. We should schedule a doctors appointment - check everything out and make sure you and the baby are both healthy.”
“Lance, I literally just found out.” He huffs.
“So? I want both of you to be safe. I want to protect both of you.”
“Sap.” Keith coos, tugging him back up and pulling him into a kiss, cupping Lance’s cheeks. “I love you.” He murmurs against his lips.
“I love you, too.” Lance sniffs. “I’m definitely going to tell everyone about this after the doctor’s appointment.”
“I expected you to.” Keith laughs, pulling away and pecking his forehead. “That’s alright. My alpha has to gloat a little bit.”
The alpha puffs himself up, grinning. “Hell yeah. Gotta show my beautiful mate off. Look at you go. You’re growing a human inside you.”
Keith grins, his instincts preening happily. Yes. Yes, he was. Their baby. He was finally, finally starting their family.
The two curl up on the couch to eat dinner, talking and laughing. Keith ends up laying on Lance’s chest, his mate brushing his fingers over his sides and back, cooing to him. The omega falls asleep like that, content and happy to start the next chapter of their life exactly like this.

Hey guys! This is the sequal to Unconditional. The fandom is making me kinda sad lately, so I wanted to post some cuteness to cheer myself (and hopefully some of you guys) up. Come tell me what you thought of s7! Let me know if I can write anything to cheer you up/make you happier than you already are!
Keith scowls down at the stick in his hands. The damn little stick that read negative. The third damn little stick he had taken that day. He stares at it a moment longer, then drops the test into the bin and gets up from his perch on the side of the bathtub to wash his hands.
It wasn’t common for Keith to be as infertile as he was. Omegas were supposed to practically oozing fertility and vitality! His alpha would argue that he wasn’t infertile, his uterus was just annoying, but Keith would definitely beg to differ.
The omega brushes his palms against his pants and decides to throw himself into baking something while he waited for Lance to get home. They’d been trying for the past three months. He’d gone through painful procedures, medicines that made him weepy or irritable, different positions, inducing heat. None of it had worked.
So his go-to was baking. That made him more of an omega, right? Maybe if he acted more like his secondary gender, he would get pregnant. His instincts were all screwed up anyways. He wasn’t like the other omegas. Lance always liked to tease that he was an alpha hiding in an omega’s body.
Maybe being an alpha would be easier, he thinks to himself as he aggressively rolls out the cookie dough. It would certainly save Lance a lot of trouble. Then they could get a surrogate and he wouldn’t have all of those weepy, jealous emotions that came with his instincts.
By the time Keith’s alpha does come home, the kitchen smells amazing and they have about six dozen different types of cookies. Keith is washing dishes, covered in flour and muttering to himself, his brow pinched.
“I’m home,” Lance calls, undoing his tie and slipping off his shoes. “Wow. You made a lot of stuff today.”
At his mate’s silence, Lance suspects that the tests had been negative again. Uh oh. Moody Keith and peanut butter cookies were on the menu tonight. He sets all his things down before going into the kitchen.
“Baby.” He hums, wrapping his arms around the omega’s waist. He buries his face in his neck, scenting him. He could almost taste the cloying anxiety and self hatred. Lance frowns, rubbing his cheek there to try and soothe his mate’s scent with his own. “What’s up?”
“The sky.” Keith replies tersely, still tense in his grip. He reached forward, grabbing the soap and pouring it over a dirty bowl.
“No,” the alpha snorts, kissing his cheek. He reaches over, turning off the water and ignoring Keith’s annoyed grunt. “I mean what’s up with you.”
“Nothing. I’m just baking.” He mumbles, reaching over to turn the water back on. Lance catches his hands, walking backward with him and turning his mate around to face him. “And I was trying to wash dishes.” He grumps, looking up at his mate.
“You never ‘just bake’ six dozen cookies.” He tilts Keith’s chin up, brushing his thumb over his cheek. Keith avoids his gaze.
“Baby…” The alpha pleads, leaning down and brushing his nose over his mate’s cheek, gently scenting him. “Please talk to me.”
Keith’s eyes flicker shut. He takes a breath, his throat suddenly tightening with emotion. He takes a moment, melting into his mate’s attention and closing his eyes. What had he done to deserve such a patient, loving alpha?
“The test was negative again.” He whispers, opening his eyes after a moment and looking up at him. He expected disappointment or guilt or… something. But instead, he was met with a smile and a kiss to the forehead.
“I know.” Lance murmurs against his skin, wrapping his arms just a bit tighter around his waist.
“You- what? You do?”
“Yeah,” the alpha laughs, peppering kisses along his face. “Yeah. You don’t bake unless you need to make yourself feel better. I’m not complaining!” He adds quickly at Keith’s guilty expression. “The guys at work love your cookies. They’ll be happy.”
The omega lays against him, thinking this through. He presses his cheek to Lance’s shoulder, brushing his fingers over his collarbone and staring off into space. “Are you happy?” He asks after a moment, his voice rough.
Lance blinks, pulling back slightly to look down at him. “What? Of course I am. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Because,” he takes a sharp breath, rubbing his stinging eyes. “Because you want a family. You want… kids and a home and… I’m not giving that to you. I just have- cookies! And negative pregnancy tests and fucked up hormones…”
“I have a family.” Lance hums, brushing a thumb under Keith’s eye. “My family is right here.”
“But I’m just… I’m just me.” Keith’s voice cracks.
“Just you is all I want. That’s all I could ask for.”
The omega sucks in a breath, looking away as a tear leaks down his cheek. How Lance - perfect, beautiful Lance - had chosen him, of all people, was beyond Keith. He was just a roughed up, foster kid, short tempered omega from the middle of nowhere Korea. It had taken two years for Lance to get him to say yes to going out with him, another year to break down the walls and figure Keith out, and six months after that to convince him that yes, the alpha wanted him as his mate.
They’d only mated a year ago. But Keith had known that Lance came from a big family and wanted at least three kids. So when they mated, he immediately went off his suppressants and had been trying to give Lance what he wanted ever since.
Twelve months of trying. You’d think by now that they would have at least had one pregnancy scare. But nothing. He could give Lance nothing. Nothing but cookies and emotions.
“Oh, baby, hey,” Lance pulls him back against him, burying his face in the omega’s hair. “Don’t cry. Please don’t cry.”
“I’m not crying.” Keith protests with a sob.
“Okay, not crying.” Lance agrees, brushing his hand up and down his mate’s back. “You’re alright. I’ve got you.”
“I just want to give you a family.” He weeps, clinging to Lance’s shirt.
“I know. I know. We’ll just keep trying.” He soothes, kissing the scent glands on his neck, trying to calm him down.
“Okay.” Keith sniffs.
They sit there for a moment before Lance picks him up, hefting him over his shoulder.
“Lance!” He squeals, patting his back. “Lance, what’re you doing?”
“Trying again!” He laughs. “Gonna get you pregnant.”
“It’s less effective when I’m not in heat,” Keith flushes, kicking his feet.
“Okay, then I’m making you feel good.” He pats his ass happily.
The house echoes with Keith’s giggling as they head down the hall. Finally, the upset omega smell was fading, leaving the house peaceful and full of life once again. Cookies sat on the counter. The sun went down outside. Things were going to be okay.
Hello again! Back with another one-shot! Sorry for the dry spell- Writers block is a bitch.
