One of the easiest ways to tell the difference between shark and ray species is gill placement. Sharks have gills on the side, rays have gills on top!
You can also look behind their eyes for the presence of spiracles. Those are what help them pull water in from above them to push water over their gills beneath them! Sawfish are species of rays, saw sharks are species of sharks!
We actually have two species of guitarfish at work (Atlantic/giant shovelnose guitarfish and bowmouth guitarfish) and they’re sooooo funny

Okay so. First of all, this might be a cold take. Someone else might’ve done this already or come up with this theory, I haven’t watched any videos EXCEPT for the actual show. So maybe I’m late to this
Additionally, we’re only on episode 4 of season 1 I could be COMPLETELY wrong on this. I might be looking too deep, so give me a grain of salt
The circus itself is giving very. Place after death vibes. Not purgatory, or heaven, or hell. But just… somewhere people go after they die. Yes I know in the first episode Pomni says she can’t get this stupid headset off so hey, maybe she’s still alive?? I DONT KNOW FOR SURE but maybe the headset is giving her a glimpse into the afterlife?
That, or it’s some kind of therapy program

All of the main cast act like stereotypes of suicide victims, maybe it’s just me
Jax is an asshole, that much is obvious. We haven’t been given many inclinations into whether or not he has a softer side, but he seems to be compensating for something. It could be insecurity
Gangle is assumed to have been a shift manager at either a fast food restaurant or some other similar chain job, and it’s implied she wanted artist only to be told her dreams were unrealistic. Something that some people don’t know about people who are suicidal is that they can become extremely happy before going through with it, which we see with Gangle in episode 4 before she’s hit by a truck. Now the truck thing could be an accident, but she literally leans into the road. She looks surprised to see the truck, and maybe she was unaware of her surroundings at the time, but it could be that she also was surprised to go through the same experience again. She literally says that she snapped under the pressure of the job and responsibility. Could be headcanon. There’s also the whole masking emotions thing which is quite literal in its presentation
Ragatha is obviously toxicly positive. She tries to make things better and look on the bright side of things. She’s courteous and compassionate, but there’s no way she can be like that constantly. It’s just not humanly possible. Gangle says in episode 4 it’s hard to tell when she’s being genuine after you spend a lot of time with her, so perhaps it’s a coping method? Or a habit? In the pilot episode/episode 1, she literally tells Pomni she understands if she leaves her behind while she’s in pain. Maybe I’m misremembering, but she values others over herself. After a certain point that becomes exhausting. You can’t do it anymore
Zooble clearly goes through body dysmorphia as seen in episode 3. They don’t like their body, no matter how many times they can change it. This could also be a gender dysphoria thing, but we don’t see a lot of their relationship with their gender other than their pronouns being non-binary
Kinger is one I struggle with a little bit. We know he had a relationship with Queenie, and now she’s gone, but we don’t know if that relationship started in the circus or before either of them were brought into it. What we do know for sure is that he’s paranoid. In his first appearance the cast literally speculates that he will be the one to abstract next, with abstraction being the product of heavy dissociation. Sure, he’s not all paranoia and fear, but he’s wary. He’s a kind soul who broke under everything
Caine’s influence in all this is that he’s someone who isn’t depressed or suicidal. He’s the person who tries to fix those people, but goes about it in the wrong way. He’s trying to take their mind off of what makes them suicidal by shifting their attention. When they try to open up to him, he doesn’t understand their issues because he just isn’t suicidal like they are/were. Like Ragatha, he’s toxicly positive and tries to change the topic when things like that come up. Think of someone who doesn’t want you to show symptoms of mental illness around them because they “don’t like it” or “are offput” by it

Something on my mind related to Sonic 3 grossing higher than Mufasa
I think it’s hilarious. Obviously. Disney has to stop making live action movies and adaptations (yes I know it’s technically animation and not live action but there’s not a good word to describe it). I get Mufasa is technically not a remake of anything previous but it’s so annoying to see them prioritizing realism over their roots in cartoons. I just saw a poster for live action Snow White
I have my gripes about the Sonic movie’s lip syncing and expressions but it’s still more endearing than whatever 2019 Lion King did, and probably better than Mufasa. I haven’t seen it but knowing how the last one went, I doubt they improved on the issues with emotion and expressions judging by the trailers
But Mufasa grossing lower isn’t going to teach them anything. It’s Disney, they have the money to ignore it and keep doing whatever they want. It has to be a long, consistent loss for them for them to actually realize that people and their target audience of children aren’t looking for that from Disney

Okay so I need to reblog because I HAVE to share this story
But when I was in Socorro, one night the chef cooked pasta salad. I’m a picky eater with texture issues, and the crew knew this. I had only been really eating bread for dinner up until this point, and I LOVE pasta. I was super excited!!
They had rotini, which I love, penne, which I hate, and what looked to be spaghetti, which I also love. The crew hostess, a lovely woman named Anie, said that there was still pasta left that was completely plain. Garnish free. Which is the only kind of pasta I eat. I thanked her endlessly, she just needed to know what kind I wanted
I went for rotini, only for her to tell me that there was none left. That’s fine, I could take the spaghetti. I took my seat at the dining booth and she gave me my plate of spaghetti
Only it wasn’t spaghetti
You know how spaghetti is cylindrical? When you look at an uncooked strand from above, it’s a circle. It was NOT CIRCLE SHAPED!! It was shaped like an X?? It was tubular like spaghetti, and yet it wasn’t. Circular?
I cannot find the name of this noodle to save my LIFE. I didn’t even notice it at first, instead just slurping it in my mouth. Yeah. I ate bread that night

Teaching kids consent is so important, even if you don’t know them
I work with kids almost every day. I like to give high fives and fist bumps. If I ask a kid for a high five and they don’t give me one? I’m not gonna force them to, even if the parent tried. I just go “eh, they’re not feeling it! That’s okay” and move on

I cannot stress to you people enough how important it is to not give up. I can already sense the first-time voters going “wow, this was pointless, time to burrow myself in a hole of self-hatred and hopelessness” like don’t. Please. Because if we give up now then we are truly letting this happen. We are giving up on change. It’s still possible and every time you try and downplay it by saying “but it’s hard” is giving them another win.
Support the environment. Support lgbt people. Support poc and immigrants. Support anyone who can and will be hurt by this because they are going to need it now.
We can’t just keel over and let them kick us while we’re down, as stupid as it sounds saying it. I don’t want to give up. I don’t want to be hopeless
I get that it’s bad. I know it’s bad. Believe me this fucking SUCKS!! But I think after we have our period of grappling with this reality we need to stop and do something else

Okay but I gotta put this in text because it’ll be too long for my normal tags bullshit
Every time. Every fucking time. This happens in 80% of my dreams and it’s just. HOUGE and I’m so happy it does
In my dream, it’s a place called Duluth. Now I’ve been to actual Duluth. This is not actually Duluth
Dream Duluth has a giant bridge that’s so big that it scares me to drive across. The bridge is so big and the route right into the city has a little section where people will check your passport or vehicle or IDs or something? I’m not sure why. The bridge gives me so much anxiety, and there’s another highway around one of the skyscrapers in that city that also gives me anxiety. For some reason, I think I work in that building. There’s even a dream inside
The city itself is beautiful. Sunny. There’s a big statue by the lake it’s built on, just like the real Duluth. There’s monuments that look like mirrors, even one that looks like the WWII monument in Washington DC. Or is it a Vietnam or Korea monument? Idk. There are hills in the city. It’s not too warm. Much like the real Duluth as well, there’s a restaurant along one of the boardwalks and piers. Unlike it, though, it’s built out onto the water. You can look into the lake from the restaurant and see the guitarfish and sawfish in the water
The beaches are something I always think about. One beach is covered in dark sand. Shark teeth always wash up there. Shark teeth and fish bones. Sometimes it’s small, nestled between that restaurant and a boardwalk. Other times, the beach is longer and pale. Sand tiger sharks and white sturgeon wash up on the shore. There are shovelnose sturgeon in the water. I try and save whatever I can, but sometimes they’re too big for me to carry on my own. Sometimes, when I wade into the water, I get close enough to touch them, but I always stop myself because I’m afraid I’ll bother the animals
There’s another beach as well, one where people always go. Umbrellas and kids and chairs. In the tideline, you can find trinkets and toys that were left a long time ago. They’re not new, rather old and rusted, but sometimes I find interesting keys and metal baubles and gemstones in the sand. I keep them for myself
There’s a white building with a blue haze inside. I don’t know why. It’s homely, but I don’t want to go inside. There was a bloody handprint on the doorframe once. I don’t know why. I think I relaxed after that
There’s a city skyscraper made completely out of glass on the outside. The ground around the statue is made of concrete. I don’t know who that statue is of, but it’s someone important. The statue is bronze
There’s a red brick church in the city. It’s old, and there’s a mosaic courtyard. In the courtyard, there’s a gazebo made of brick. Inside that gazebo is a bell, and the ceiling is made of mosaic tiles that look like an ornate sky. Inside the church there are suits of armour, and the cathedral is impossibly large compared to the outside. The windows are tall, and the light that flits in is always white
