Peter didn’t pay attention to most people

It’s not that he didn’t care but rather it’s that his brain worked so fast he didn’t have time to slow down for others

But somehow, despite that, you somehow managed to catch his attention

Which was sort of odd because you didn’t really stand out

You weren’t rebellious, weren’t outspoken

But what you were, was nice

Maybe even overly nice

At first Peter found it slightly annoying, how nice you were

And he thought, ‘no one’s that nice.’

So he made it his mission to break you

You’re reaching for an item and he instantly zips by, takes it before you can and suddenly he’s across the room waving to you with item in hand

You’re on your way somewhere, he stands right in front of you blocking your path and you two are caught in a little sidestep dance until he finally lets you go by

Despite his irritating behavior, you were always nice to him, and the more he pushed the more he realized that you were just in fact…well nice

After some more time spent with you, he became less annoyed with you and more annoyed with others

More specifically the way others treated you

One night when you two were hanging out, you mentioned how another classmate asked to borrow something of yours a while ago and had yet to return it

That’s when he asked, “doesn’t that bother you?”

You weren’t dumb, you knew exactly what he was talking about

But instead of giving some deep answer like he thought you would, you just shrugged and said, “it’s nice to be nice.”

That wasn’t good enough for him.

Peter made it his mission then and there to help you stand up to people

He spent the next week trying to teach you how to reach your inner meanness

And when that failed and you found yourself apologizing to him

All Peter said was, “if we can’t unlock your inner meanness, then I’ll be your inner meanness.”

You were about to ask what he meant by that, but before you could he leaned close with a lopsided grin and said, “that means you’re never gettin rid of me.”

From that day on, Peter was always by your side

If anyone tried to bother you they’d have to go through him
